The Red Deer in Horsham

A very lively and friendly venue with great staff attitudes and service matched by a lovely range of food and drinks. Our waitress went above and beyond for this birthday occasion.

We were given a voucher to eat here, and boy were we pleased with what we ate. We enjoyed the fixed menu, which gave a choice from 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. The food was excellent, as was the service. The only disappointment was that the menu on the website didn’t match what we were offered at the restaurant, I’d already decided what I was going to order! However I was quickly able to choose something delicious. It was a quiet Wednesday, so the atmosphere was subdued, but lovely and relaxing. Our lovely server even tried to refuse our tip.

Went for the Thursday cheese fondue with another couple and it was delicious. The portion was perfect, it came with bread, salad, selection of meats and mouth watering potatoes to dip in the melted cheese. We were unsure it would be filling enough but it was just the right amount for us all and priced very reasonably too. But the best bit of the entire experience was Jayson, who waited for us. He was friendly, helpful and checked back with us at all the right times. He was great getting us all drinks and nibbles to start and was so attentive. He is an asset to the team there! Would highly recommend trying this before the Thursdays finish!

We decided we wanted to get a Sunday roast while shopping in Horsham at the spur of the moment decision, we decided to try the Red Deer. We hadn’t booked but we were offered a table in the bar with the same menu as the restaurant. I actually preferred this as we had very comfortable lounge chairs. The Roast was very good and decent size portions. The staff members were very efficient and made us feel welcome. Will definitely recommend the Red Deer.

Fantastic Sunday roast with bottomless roasties, yorkshires and gravy. Really well cooked and so much quality meat. Superb service from Dawn, really friendly efficient and generally lovely. She really made it for us. Lush puddings, great value and we’ll be back.

A wonderful Saturday lunch. Cheese soufflé - vey good as expected. Pheasant Supreme - Excellent flavour, tender, and beautifully presented. Sticky Toffee Pudding - Absolutely delicious. Service good. The crowning glory of the experience was the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. Sorry I was too eager to dig into the fantastic food to take any photographs.

We regularly visit the restaurant for dessert and coffee. The moment we step through the door the staff warmly welcome us and give an attentive and exceptional service. They have happily always accommodated our needs and this past Sunday, they made excellent recommendations as to the desserts we would enjoy; the desserts - the Pistachio souffle and Sticky toffee pudding turned out to be absolutely delicious! We will be returning. I highly recommend them.

Staff were excellent, could not say one bad thing, really looked after our every need. However, the food, hate to say, but was the worst Christmas dinner i have ever experienced. We had high expectations of Christmas dinner at £100 per head. What we got - the veg was simple boiled sports, potatoes and carrots, no herbs added, no glazed carrots and most shocking of all no roast potatoes or ham. Basically two slices of Turkey, and boiled vegetables, I believe they did try to roast the small baby potatoes which sadly did not work, bland, no crispiness. I'm sure we cannot be the only people from that day who felt the same? First time ever to eat out on Christmas day and don't think we will be doing it again if that's the type of food you are served up. The soup that was served was delicious, the trout was ok not great, some nice Prawns would of been lovely, the risotto was uneatable. The desert was ok, we gave up after that, so cannot comment on the cheese board or mince pie and as i mentioned earlier our boiled carrots, sprouts, potatoes and two slices of Turkey was something i would expect from my work canteen. I had a bad experience here before and when i complained they offered us a meal on the house and that experience was lovely so i thought i would give the restaurant another go as their Sunday Roasts are amazing, shame they could not have put a little more afford into what was served on such a special day. I am sad i had to write such a bad review i have never actually do so before, but when you are served such low quality, bland food for the price it was and the day that was in it i felt i had too as I'd love to know if anyone else felt the same or is it me just being fussy.

I went there last night with my husband for a date night very noisy, priority was given to larger groups. Food took a long time to arrive. Food nice but not exceptional. I wouldn’t recommend it for couples, better for groups.

Stumbled across this place by accident, after failing to find a place on the hoof in Horsham. It was December, so I get it. The menu, the atmosphere, the accommodating staff and their desire to 'fit us in' was delightful. We don't live locally but this is a top recommendation to anyone who does

We only booked here because our regular Horsham pub lunch was fully booked. What a piece of luck. The Red Deer was absolutely superb for Sunday lunch. The food was very very good. Drinks great too (real ale is important to us) The staff were super friendly. The pub was light and airy and not too many tables jammed in together like some places. It's not cheap. But it's worth it. With family now living in Horsham, we will be booking here first choice next time.

The Red Deer team yesterday looked after our family group of 12 wonderfully and attentively. Would heartily recommend the Red Deer for everything from Pub lunches in the “Pub” section to group meals in the restaurant. The food is innovative, non multiple, and the team are very attentive and professional. The site was nice as Waitrose but it’s much nicer as the Red Deer 😜 👍

5 family members came for Sunday lunch my daughters birthday 2of us had the roast beef we had 2very thin slices of beef about 4 inches in diameter a 1/3 of which was gristle very disappointing never been back Red Deer went on our avoid list

Food was very overpriced and basic. The chicken supreme was full of bones, soggy and salty mash (tasted like instant mash) pickled onions added?? My friend had the blue cheese and chicory salad, it was just leaves with a teaspoon serving of cheese and walnuts combined…..hardly any sauce. I ordered a glass of wine with my desert, this never arrived. The restaurant did agree that the main course salad was poor and replaced it for something else. Disappointed and won’t be returning.

Great food all amazingly well cooked and presented, great atmosphere and our server Svitlana was EXCEPTIONAL, very attentive, friendly and polite! Having worked in the hospitality sector previously she is exactly the staff I would have wanted on my team.

The ambience and decor are good but hat really makes this a great place are the amazing cocktails for pre-dinner drinks, exceptional food across all three courses, very good wine list and exceptional service. I highly recommend for friends / family meet up as well as business. Our party enjoyed especially: the cheese souffle starter; entrees the duck and steaks were superb and for dessert, the crumble and the chocolate mousse were divine! Highly recommend

We had a family get together in the central room for 26 people & everything was brilliant! The staff, food & service were 1st class. We've eaten in the restaurant several times & always been happy, so were pleased that all our guests were happy & impressed with the venue too. Thanks to all the staff, we'll be back soon.

All six of us ordered roast beef All agreed was excellent waitresses were extremely nice.would definitely recommend .One of the best Sunday roasts around

The food was delicious although the portions were a tad small for my friend. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. The building has high ceilings which made it rather noisy with a crowded area.

I just want to say what a great experience I had at The Red Deer on Saturday July 27th. My son and Son in law chose this as a venue for their wedding reception. Great atmosphere, fantastic food and brilliant attentive staff. I think I speak for the entire Burrett Black family when I say well done Red Deer. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We went for an end of term get together. The staff were all lovely, the atmosphere was nice, we had a private bit of the pub reserved for a buffet. They don’t actually do buffets but put together a lovely spread for me in my price range. Happy hour 5-7 was a bonus!

Amazing Sunday roast we highly recommend. Visited here today for the first time with my husband, we had the Sunday roast, it was so good. Unlimited amount of roast potatoes, veggies and cauliflower cheese. Food was boiling hot, cooked perfectly and the service was excellent, front of house here are just so on the ball. Highly recommend

Attended the music quiz at The Red Deer last night. The quiz was brilliant and the atmosphere was great. The standout for me though was how incredibly friendly and personable each and every member of staff was. I genuinely don't think I have met such nice people in any hospitality spot before. They are a credit to the place. Will be coming back!

Lovely restaurant. Really friendly and happy staff. The food came out perfectly timed. We used a Virgin Experiences voucher so had a different menu. The food we had was delicious, the only down side was the choice, the menu was very limited. The normal menu looked great. We will definitely be back to try the normal menu. It’s not the cheapest eatery but the food is excellent.

We visit often and the red deer is consistently good, both in terms of quality of the food and drink, but also the friendliness at the staff and the service. This is one of the best restaurants in this area.

I have written reviews of 'The Red Deer' before but felt compelled to do so again after my visit yesterday. It confirmed my view that this is the best restaurant in Horsham. I turned up for lunch with two old school friends. We hadn't booked (which I think is vital for evenings) but were immediately accommodated. The food is of extremely high-quality - I feel the name of the place might lead some people to expect elevated 'pub grub' but it's on a completely different plane - more 'urbane and stylish brasserie' (although there is a more pub-like ambience at the front, with big comfortable sofas). And - as always - ALWAYS - there is the absolutely faultless charming service. It's impossible not to leave this place feeling better than when you went in.

We had a wonderful roast dinner, the beef was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. They offer unlimited roast potatoes, gravy etc but the portion given was more than ample for us and we enjoyed every mouthful. Lovely staff, very attentive and professional, great atmosphere and location. Will definitely be returning with family and friends in the future.

Good food, great staff and service but noisy restaurant - difficult to hold a conversation at times and it wasn't even full

Our second visit recently, based on a delicious lunch a few weeks ago. We arrived early so went for drinks at the bar - 2 for 1 happy hour! The boquerones snacks were so reminiscent of Spanish holidays - perfect! Followed by a favourite burger and the most amazing grilled prawns on a really tasty black rice. Accompanied by a superb malbec and viognier. The menu offers something different and never disappoints - always beautifully cooked and presented. Thank you Red Deer and your lovely staff.

Excellent restaurant with great staff and service best i've seen in a while. Important to have a team operating in this environment that knoe how to treat customers.

I had my 60th birthday celebration in the function room and I can honestly say it couldn’t have been better. The food was fantastic and the service amazing. The function room is great for that size group and the atmosphere was lively but relaxed. Maya looked after us all so well - not easy with 25 hungry and thirsty people to cater for! She and the rest of the lovely team made my night so special. Thank you to all of you!

Great service, excellent choices for all of us and good amount of vegan options. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch, fab atmosphere and can still have a conversation.

Had a very enjoyable meal with family and friends for a birthday. On the whole, the food and drinks were nice and staff were great. Would definitely recommend and go back.

A lovely traditional pub and restaurant but with an exceptional drinks and food menu. We visited for lunch on a Saturday and ate in the restaurant. The staff were welcoming and friendly and our waitress exceptionally helpful. We enjoyed cocktails and a 3 course meal and everything was great. The cocktails were way too nice. The food was all delicious. I had the famous cheese soufflé and it was outstanding. My partner had the seafood cocktail which was also very good. I had the steak and ale pie and mash for my main and that was delicious. My partner had mussels which were amazing. We shared a dessert of fruit crumble which again was of a very high standard. This place is lovely and we will most definitely be coming back.
