On a Monday, for the first time and with my daughter Laura, we had lunch at Crates and it was out of this world. The food was delicious, the products were fresh and last but not least, the staff was extremely friendly and what's more very helpful, especially Cheryl, Nina and Lisa who also happens to be the owner.

I had a salad bowl with halloumi and a side order of hummus, my husband had a taco salad with halloumi , the portions were so meagre! I just had a few lettuce leaves sprinkled with grated carrot and a few bit of chopped pepper, the halloumi was wafer thin and about half a tablespoon of hummus, my husbands was the same, I went in hungry for lunch and came out starving! I complained to the manager, she was not understanding at all and said that’s the way it is! That’s the normal size portions, like, if you don’t like it then tough!, I will not be going back, a real rip off!, very disappointed with her attitude

Popped in whilst in Horsham and enjoyed the food (sausage and egg muffin), the service was pleasant and efficient. Also prefer the layout since the swap (the shop swapped places with the cafe, which is now positioned as a bistro). It’s very dog friendly and has a doggy menu. However was surprised to be told sauce is charged separately (40p each time)… I was left tingling with excitement whether this would be a standard sachet on the plate, or a condiment bottle would arrive with the food? Sadly neither and a small amount of sauce had already been applied in the kitchen. It’s the only place (outside of some McDonalds) where I’ve been charged for table sauces. (I fully understand being charged for chef sauces eg to accompany steak). We also had tea, which was served in a cup (rather than a pot) - this seems to be more common these days but not a fashion I enjoy. It feels miserly (at just under £4 a cup) and there is nowhere, except the saucer, to put the used bag.

Disappointing - im in & out alot of coffee shops, never have I been asked to "move on" by staff from any of them! granted I was there for a couple of hours, in which time i bought multiple hot drinks & treats, but to tell a customer they have out stayed there welcome is rude. Its not the first time I've visited but certainly will be the last!

Bad coffee like this in 2022 is just inexcusable. It’s never been easier to get freshly roasted beans and/or basic barista training. This glass mug is way too big for a flat whites, meaning the coffee is completely over diluted by the milk. no latte art is fine, but the milk is completely the wrong texture for a flat white. I’d rather buy coffee from independent places than from the big chains, but if you can’t make a flat white, don’t offer them. Added to this, they do not accept Amex, there’s plenty of good independent coffee houses that can make great coffee that do accept Amex. I’d really like to come back one day and find that this cafe has upped their game with their coffee as the staff were very polite and the cafe was otherwise warm and cosy.

I’m reviewing the coffee shop as I didn’t visit the store. Excellent coffee just off the main square and in my experience probably the best in town. I ordered a large latte which was enormous but not in the least compromised by its size. Friendly service. What more do you need if it’s good coffee you’re after.

We visited on the spur of the moment, and were lucky to find a table to seat 6. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and weren't phased when we explained we had a fairly tight time schedule. There was a great selection to choose from, everything came as quickly as they could make it and it was all very tasty. The wide variety of hot drink we chose were also good. When we popped in the following day just for coffee, they remembered us and that our order was different. Will definitely visit again and recommend it highly.

We’ve stopped here for fresh produce in the past but never visited the cafe. The coffee was good (and generous in size) brought out to us in the limited outdoor space. Being on the Carfax, it was a sub trap and a good place to while away time, people-watching. The service was friendly, prompt and attentive - all good reasons to support a local coffee shop over one of the chains.

I contacted "Crates" regarding a birthday hamper for a family member living locally to the shop. What a real treat to find a shop that really wants to help you give them some business online and I have nothing but very high praise for their caring attitude, help with choosing contents of the hamper and delivery when they said they would do it. The gift was received with excitment and joy. What a wonderful shop. Once the lockdown has eased I shall definitely be visiting in person. Thank you very much.

Crates sells lovely fresh produce nice sauces and has a very welcoming atmosphere with friendly easy to talk to staff. I buy my milk from here as I prefer the non pasteurised verity. I would recommend doing this as it wastes less plastic as you can bring your own glass containers, this also allows you to get money off refilling. Overall it is a wonderful shop. I just wish it could be physically bigger to offer more items and produce.

Stopped here for a quick pick-me-up and ordered a flat white. The coffee was reasonably priced and well presented when it arrived... the early signs were good! Taste wise, it was spot on. Lovely and rich, strong and well balanced... Everything a flat white should be. They use local coffee beans too, which is always a bonus in my books. Although I didn’t have anything to eat, the sandwiches and pastries in the cabinet display looked appetising and fresh. They also have an adjoining shop which sells everything from local produce to wines, gin and chocolate. There are seats both inside and outside, which is ideal for people watching whilst enjoying your drink! Crates is a must visit if you’re looking for somewhere for a coffee stop whilst in Horsham town.

Decided to try this attractive looking café, have walked past many times. However my soya latte so weak, tasteless, thin and watery. The lady who served me assured me all their coffees are double shots unless requested otherwise. Either the soya milk being used is inferior or the coffee beans not good quality, which would be surprising. Unfortunately didn't have time to mention it, had a few mouthfuls and left.

I absolutely love my weekly visit to Crates. I usually have a good browse around the shop before buying my usual sourdough loaf. They stock a fantastic variety of local produce including wine from he Bolney estate (Bacchus being a favourite!), an impressive selection of beers and spirits, delicious meats, bread, local honey, chutneys, sauces, fresh veg and even Horsham gingerbread - who knew!?. The staff are genuinely interested in what they are selling and you can always have a lovely chat. Don't forget to get a "coffee to go" or take a seat in the cafe and enjoy a delicious sandwich.
