We visited the red barn on our first night of a 7-day break! The restaurant is clean, staff are really friendly and the food was good. We often visited for a drink during our stay and the atmosphere was always really good! Great location and worth a visit!

So after our last experience here in April 24, I was very hesitant to return. However return we did and I can honestly say there has been a huge improvement. Staff are friendly, welcoming and happy to see you on arrival. The tables were being cleared as soon as they were vacated and although it was busy, there was an organised and smooth running to the place. George served us, his friendly polite demeanour made us feel welcome and it felt like he was happy to serve us. I had a chicken goujon and bacon salad, and hubbie had a southern fried chicken burger, both were delicious, hot and well presented. There has definitely been a change for the better here and we look forward to returning.

We have been visiting Woolacombe at least once a year, usually more, with our family since 2008. We always looked forward to drinks and meals at the Red Barn and really enjoyed the experiences. However, since the venue was taken over by Hall and Woodhouse, the atmosphere, service and most importantly the menu and food have been poorer, a great disappointment. We most likely will return, when next in the village, if only for a drink, because of the lovely views over the beach and coast.

We went because it’s location is right next to the beach and the website makes it looks like a lovely gastro pub! It is not this at all…. Food was “ok”. Service was poor- ordered at bar for everything and honestly the place was filthy, rubbish on the floor, dirt on the floor, table was dirty; as were others around us. We told the waitress when we left and she just thanked us for our feedback- no apology. The whole place needs a proper deep clean!

Unfortunately the Red Barn remains a poor shadow of its former glory. It was easy to get a table on our visit and we could see why! Exactly why they have removed all the surf heritage decorations and replaced them with pictures of yachts is quite beyond me. There’s still no atmosphere or any decent cider, food options are expensive and unexciting, so we went to Captain Jacks which is what we should have done in the first place. So sad. One day hopefully Hall and Woodhouse will be replaced by a pub company that can give this place the Devon Surf love it deserves. It deserves better.

Luke warm coffee spilt into saucer, server apologised for spilling it into saucer🤔.Perhaps they might’ve just taken it back and wiped the cup and saucer. Luke warm hot chocolate, no squirting cream or chocolates like we’ve had before. Asked for a scoop of ice cream and was told we had to buy a kids meal. After debating the fact that they had ice cream in stock we managed to persuade the server to allow us on this occasion to have a bowl. Everything seems to much effort to get right here at The Red Barn. I guess standards don’t matter when you’ve got a captive audience. Sadly we won’t return as Like so many of the wonderfully run free houses that have been bought out by Breweries in this area. So sad to see these Brewery owned managed houses with no landlord and landlady keeping standards high.

Upon arrival, the entrance looked grubby, tired and unwelcoming. Sat at table overlooking front, but area seems grubby, tired and in need of a good clean. Sauce bottle on table was caked in gunge, and carpet looked like it had not seen a hoover in weeks. Pint of larger and G&T packet of crisps, that was £14.10, slightly overpriced. We were going to eat there as all our friends recommended it as a place to try, however some things must have changed, as I don t believe they would rave about this place. We saw food being returned to kitchen, which put us on edge to start with. Often drink in Hall and Woodhouse pubs, but this one has to be the worst we have encountered, they could learn a thing or two from other establishments in the same area, really disappointing.

Went for breakfast last weekend, walked into the bar at 1050 to find a table. Collected some menus from the bar and found a seat. Unfortunately one of the children fell over so we attended to them prior to placing our order. Once resolved we waited at the bar to order, we were then served by a lady at 1100. We were told that breakfast had now finished as 1100! I asked her if she could make an exception given we’d been dealing with something else prior to ordering, she answered ‘if I do it for you, I would have to do it for everyone’ There was nobody else in the queue! After this I decided to have a beer, then told there was no draught beer on! Such a strange mindset from a business and such a shame given its prime location on the beach. Went instead to the electric bar where we were welcomed and loved it. Won’t revisit.

We had driven a long way, and this bar was the closest to our accommodation. Understaffed, the stoical girl at the bar (lovely yellow eyelashes!) was flying solo, and at least eight people were queuing, constantly. The toilets were appalling, and if there were anyone around who looked in charge, we would have said something. This was the week before the Easter weekend, so there should be no excuse. Position, position, position doesn't mean you should not care.

The staff are friendly and they are trying but somebody from head office needs to spend a few weeks training them up. There was a sign at entrance with a massive qr code for online ordering. Waited about 20 minutes for drinks only to be told at the bar ordering this way is not “set up”….did no staff consider this when they put the board out that day?🤣🤣 great for casual drink. Probably wouldn’t plan to have dinner there as kitchen opening and closing seems to be adhoc. The Jube are stealing an absolute march on these guys, as their food and service is much better.

Booked a table to catch up with family while on holiday, booked on their website with 5pm,5:30pm,6pm slots available, so we booked the 5pm table, got a confirmation email straight away, even got an email at 4:30 remaining us of our booking, will arrived at 4:55pm only for the embarrassed young staff to tell us the kitchen has closed now !!! Then after I shown them the emails they acted like one o’clock half struck and got the manager, he was rude and just said the kitchen closes at 5pm I said so why are you taking bookings as late as 6pm when you close the kitchen at 5pm is the cook not well ? He said no the kitchen closes at five but we have crisps behind the bar ! Joke of a setup and our family all had to leave and try to find somewhere else to go which we didn’t as everywhere else was too busy to accommodate us .

So disappointed, first time we’ve been under the new owners. Used to love eating here. Portions very small, children’s meals especially, barely enough for a toddler. Lots of the food was only like warm. Mashed potato on children’s meal was severely over salted (they did replace with chips when asked, only reason for 2 stars rather than 1). Fish pie was served in an extremely shallow dish so barely any filling. Just seems like penny pinching on everything, and yet the customer is charged around £15 for a main meal. Won’t be returning. Such a shame, they need their local customers for repeat business as much as the holiday makers.

Tired and hungry after a day's travel to Woolacombe, we opted for a local eatery that was open. You can't miss it as it's right on the sea front. Mixed menu of appetising starters, "home comfort" food eg chilli, fish & chips, steak, plus burgers and hot dogs and a selection of sarnies, and carb heavy puddings. Included dietary options for veggies, gluten free etc. Quite a nice selection of local beers. As its name suggests, it is a barn of a place, pub and dining, popular with the locals, and quite noisy even though there were only a few customers. Service was good with friendly staff. Food was tasty. However, we didn't find it was a place to linger, but then we were knackered!

The red barn used to be the local’s place to go! However since changing hands, it’s changed and not for the better. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The menu is very limited, especially if you’re a vegetarian - you can only get some veggie options as a child’s portion, there is no option for adult size. The food was also cold. We used to struggle to get a table at the red barn and always had a line of customers, and now it’s the opposite - no line and hardly no staff. It’s a shame really as it used to be the place to go! Been here countless times but no more.

We came here for a night out on Saturday 14/10/23. I Ordered nachos with chilli on top. The chilli on top of the nachos was cold and sloppy. I stopped eating it as I got a bit worried looking at the consistency of it half way through eating . Really hoping this was cooked/heated/stored properly, especially being pregnant, time will tell. Would suggest anyone that is vulnerable or worried to order vegetarian options, just to be on the safe side (wish I did) seen a few other recent reviews about undercooked meals here. Miss the jacket potato options, simple, nice dishes that are no longer available. Desserts were lovely however again a dessert that was meant to be hot was quite cold. Staff serving behind bars looked over worked, had big ques, but were very polite. I do love the location and the decor of the restaurant. Used to be nice here, starting to resemble a restaurant that you would see on Gordon Ramsey kitchen nightmares.

On ordering our starter we asked for a 10 minute break before our main meal. 50 minutes later still no main meal so I went to ask if our order was coming soon to which we were told yes 10 minutes! 10 minutes later asked again and some girl said it’s being plated so 15 minutes later we were served our food. Very, very disappointed, not only in the attitude of the staff but the food was served cold. We did wonder when we first went into the restaurant as the very young staff were dancing about like they didn’t have a care in the world and they were very unprofessional and if this was my establishment I would be greatly embarrassed. Pre ordered as a large table and they lost our preorder. Food not up to standard, very fatty pork. Kids nuggets were too spicy. Staff didn't check back, dirty floors etc. A waste of £50 for my family of 4 from the party.

Paid over £16 for a beer and a glass of wine. And the place is fairly minging. If you’re going to charge that much you should be doing something extraordinary and you’re not.

Not a good experience, dirty tables, lost our food order, staff with attitude, after 2 hours of waiting gave up and left. Used to be a really cool place to eat and hang out but has gone down hill.

On arrival we were seated at a table by a member of staff. Once sat down we were approached by a second member of staff- an older lady- who proceeded to continually scream in our faces that we couldn’t sit at that table as the...

What a fabulous place with extremely phenomenal staff, especially Max the manager. Who at very short notice (hours) allowed our rugby tour St Mary's OB RFU to hold kangaroo court and kept our tour alive.. Sincerely thank you Kevin (court doctor)

A fantastic, welcoming venue. Couldn't have asked for more. The staff went above and beyond to cater for us. Lovely food and a wonderful atmosphere.

Visited the Red Barn three times whist holidaying in Woolacombe and were a bit wary after reading the reviews beforehand.but we really enjoyed it in there. The best thing about the place is the staff who were all really friendly and helpful during our visits,and...

We visited Easter Sunday. We had booked a table for 2pm for Sunday lunch. On ordering, we were told the roast beef had run out. The only other roast on offer was pork, which we don’t eat. I ending up ordering fish & Chips &...

We went for Sunday lunch. Wait for food not as long as expected. Roast beef dinner was excellent. Tasty beef, good selection of veg. Will definitely go again. Staff very friendly

Well it’s gone down hill quite a lot. Menu has been simplified and not the broadest of choices. Non existent “specials” board which did have a regular menu item on it. Place was clean and tidy but staff couldn’t understand a simple drinks order which...

Since being taken over by Hall and Woodhouse this once amazing jewel has lost its appeal 😒 The Helles lager was good but expensive, there was no Trad cider and the beer was all from Dorset. Food menu used to be pretty good but now...

Been coming to Red Barn for Steak and chips for 30 years, no longer on the much shorter menu. Also bring back starters…such a great location and lovely welcoming team. Very quiet at peak time…hopefully this feedback helps.

£15.95 for a pint and a small Prosecco bottle. When I queried it I felt sorry for the bar person having to explain it's £10.25 for the small (175ml) prosecco bottle. Earlier I had a half of the IPA for £3.40. Ripping the heart out...

Great dog friendly local pub with very helpful and friendly staff, good cask and keg ales, lagers, ciders and food. Made our recent holiday to Lynton complete. Thank you.

Crap, manager standing at tables giving away shots to girls while doing nothing while the staff work their arses off. Seen it a few times now, seen managers make staff cry, the way they talk to their staff is gross, needs looking at seriously. Go to the panniers, new management and way better

Had a really super meal last Sunday. We were here on holiday but if local would come back every week! Nice children’s playground outside, crayons and colouring packs. Our dog was welcome and blankets provided for them to sit on. We had a carvery and it was one do the best I’ve been too. Really lovely variety of vegetables done well. Beautiful meats and very generous serving. Pavlo the chef I think it was and Michelle made us feel welcome and they were so friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Great pub and restaurant unfortunately not serving Sunday lunch. Restaurant section was closed on our visit. The excellent food and facilities are way ahead of the floor staff and table service. On our visit, the bar was excessively noisy with rowdy locals.
