The Raven Inn in Powys

The Raven appeared to be fiendly the food was as expected but what really upset us was as we were leaving one of the staff approached us and in front of a busy bar asked "Have you paid " Luckily my husband always asks for a receipt when paying by card . This was so embarassing as we had taken a relative that we were visiting out for lunch. Not inpressed What would of happened if we had not had the receipt .

I've been here for lunch on several occasions the most recent being a few days ago. I can't fault it: the food is wonderful, the service great, lovely ambience. Bonuses: no loud, unwanted music to spoil conversations, huge car park, dogs allowed. I wish someone would move Welshpool nearer to where I live so I could go more often!

I’d love to say the Food was fantastic.. went for my partners birthday meal.. Completely ruined by bar staff assuming we had done a runner cause we were cuddled by the fire.. didn’t see us sitting in the corner and heard them saying we were dodgy!!! Unbelievable.. if I was going to try and steal the meal.. I’d have ordered a pudding and got drunk as well.. it was £109 hardly going to break my bank!! just cause we are young and have tattoos and don’t look to their standard.. doesn’t give you an excuse to think we don’t have money to pay for our meal.. huge thanks for making us feel like awful…

We went for a family lunch yesterday - eleven of us - the Raven was absolutely heaving all afternoon but our food was amazing and the service was excellent. Staff are lovely and friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. Think the staff need a shout out for how well they coped and the great service they gave. Really enjoyable afternoon.

Decided to try The Raven this evening and it was great. My partner is Lancashire born and bred so happy with his pie. Son had the Cajun chicken burger and was very happy. I have a small appetite so asked for the Whitbait starter as a main meal and wasn't disappointed, lovely and crisp

There was a dog. I was happy. My dining companion loved the log fire. The massaman curry pie was delicious. A couple of hard chips but nothing that the pie didn't make up for. Staff were very friendly.

Delicious meal served by caring staff with a warm welcome for us. It was a little quiet on Sunday evening, in the rear restaurant where we ate but none the worse for it as the food was so good. Excellent brisket and fabulous puddings. Well worth a trip if you are in Welshpool

First and last time to visit, the restaurant was so packed with tables and chairs that I had to keep moving for people to pass, every time a waitress squeezed by I expected to get covered in food as she lifted plates up over my head, when our food arrived it was mostly inedible, don’t have the nachoes unless you like eating grease & curdled cream and the mild curry was way off the scale for hot, the gammon steak couldn’t be chewed it was like cardboard, complaints were met with a shrug of the shoulders.

Food review! The Raven in Welshpool. Camembert sharer with a portion of fries. This was the best, THE VERY BEST, camembert ever. It even beats anything we've had in France. Baked in conit garlic (whatever that is) and rosemary, plus home made chutney (also the best ever) and loads of ciabata bread. The fries were also up there with the best. All in all it was staggeringly amazing for £18 (£9 each) I even made mini ciabata snacks with what was left over to take back to our Gothic Airbnb house. Beck, the amazing barmaid even gave us a takeaway box. Beck is an absolute superstar. If every pub/ restaurant had someone like her they would be as busy and successful as the Raven. The Raven is now one of my top five pubs ever. Scores Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Food quality 20/20 Value for money 11/10 This gives the Raven a score of 101% 😀😀😀

We were staying in Welshpool for my 40th birthday. We chose to eat at the Raven, the staff and the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. We both ordered the Steak and Ale Pie which was out of this world. The best pie I've ever tasted. Other delicious food looked incredible, there was so much to choose from. I wish this was my local, would dine here at least three times a week. Highly recommend, 5 * Will definitely be coming back if ever in Welshpool. Thanks for such a wonderful lunch on my birthday weekend.

Good food , waiters and waitresses are very professional and friendly! Cosy ambiance sometimes loud when it's packed but other than that it's a very nice place to have a drink and enjoy 😊

The staff and atmosphere were great, the food however was not. Two meals overcooked, and another undercooked, very disappointing.

The Raven Inn is a real gem. From the moment you walk in, the beautifully designed interiors create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food is exceptional—everything tastes genuinely homemade, with that comforting, authentic touch that’s hard to find. The staff couldn't be friendlier, always attentive and genuinely happy to help, which makes the whole experience even better. It's also very dog-friendly, which is a huge plus; they even have an extensive dog menu that shows real thought for our furry friends. Despite being close to a main road, the inn is surprisingly quiet, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. I can't recommend it enough!

We went for pie of the day, faggots and children’s gammon. Food was gorgeous. Staff all very friendly. This was our second time here and we will definitely be back. Thanks very much.

The best ribeye steak I've ever had. The decoration is very welcoming and cosy. Chips and pie of the day (chiken and leek) were also very good. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

We have now had two great meals here. Not only was the food delicious and well-presented , it was very reasonably priced. The entire pub and restaurant are warm, welcoming and carefully maintained. Thoroughly recommended 😄

Always had a lush meal everytime, lovely staff and a little gem in Welshpool. Lush Roast Dinners and puds! Also one of the best burgers Ive ever had!

Good Sunday lunch, would be better with another choice of white meat for example chicken or turkey, also a choice of green and red cabbage.

We travel from the Midlands to Wales fairly regularly and found this gem a few weeks ago. First visit was great, it's a lovely dog friendly pub/restaurant. Nicely decorated, friendly staff, good beer and food, all good. This time no different. We had lunch late and turned up here for dinner but not feeling overly hungry. They were fine with an adult having a kid's meal, and I had a sandwich. Just nice to find somewhere that is happy to accommodate your needs. We had great food again, a bowl of water for the dog, kids enjoyed their food, service was good, friendly and timely. I don't think there's much more you could ask from a restaurant. This is now a regular stop for us, really nice, you should definitely visit!!

Great surroundings, food was excellent. Had to pick up your own menus, then leave your table to order at the bar.

One of those places you drive past and mean to visit. So we did and we will be back. Got in early and hadn't booked bit they found us a table if we could be gone by a certain time which was fantastic. Made us feel welcome rather than an inconvenience. Smiles wherever you looked. Drinks were great and food choice perfect. Food arrived quickly and four empty plates suggest it was enjoyed by all. Certainly the best Sunday roast in a pub I have had. Well decorated and clean rustic feel. Can imagine it gets busy in peak times so I would book in future to secure a table in this gem of a pub with great food and drink that doesn't bust the bank.

My wife and I came here as part of the 1940s weekend experience. Also our 37th wedding anniversary. We were made welcome right from the start. Plenty of choices for gluten free , in particular the dessert range which can often be limited. Waiting time was excellent, staff very attentive, both serving food and bar staff. There seemed to be a genuine warmth between the staff. My wife had Chicken Curry and I plumped for the Chicken and ham pie. Both excellent. Puddings were also exceptional. A night of torrential rain but didn't dampen our spirits at all. Highly recommended

Been here for food a couple of times recently and will definitely be returning! The staff have been super friendly and helpful , the real ale is spot on and the food is fantasic everything has been very hot and tasty! Can’t wait for our next visit!

A rather unsatisfactory Sunday dinner. For both price and taste were lacking, £16 for a vegetarian roast without the nut roast. Both lacking in service (no table service) and flavour. Although the pub itself was pleasant and warm, open spaced and nice tables.

Spent a pleasant evening here with the dog after a day out in Mid-Wales. Food was excellent quality and the service was superb. Great to see Faggots on the menu - absolutely delicious!

We sat at a window table with our two dogs here and had a lovely time. Service was spot on even while they were short-staffed, as waiters were buzzing around like busy bees. The food was delicious and well-presented. The place was very well decorated with character. People were very friendly and chatty as well. Highly recommended.

They have a menu for dogs. My dog insists that I give them 5 stars because his bowl of chicken was delicious.

Delicious food and friendly service

We went here on Wednesday for a meal, I had the special board Stewed beef pie with mash and veg. I have never tasted such a delicious pie, absolutely yummy.

Called in for coffee again on our yearly visit to Barmouth. Witnessed to be just the same as last year.Always a warm welcome

We didn't try the food. We arrived at 7:50 p.m., the person who received us at the bar told us that we had to wait for a table to become available at 8 p.m. No problem, we are seated at a small table at the entrance while we wait, we have a drink. Time passes, tables become available, waitresses pass by, no one seats us to eat, we are ignored while other people who arrived after us without reservation are seated. 8:20 p.m. we go back to see the person at the bar... and there we are told that we just have to manage, take a menu card from the dining room and order!?!

A lovely pub with a great atmosphere. When I gave a 5* rating for food, I can't say a rating myself as I didn't have food but give it a 5* from our little pup who had the 5oz steak from the doggy menu and ate the lot so it must have been good. 👍🏼👍🏼

"I was driving through beautiful Wales, and on the way, I saw a lovely place to take a break. I parked my car and went for food; it was amazing—great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. They were super busy and full of people ordering food. I was told there would be a 40-minute wait, but the wait was worth it because the food was very delicious. During my meal, three staff members came to check if I needed anything. In the end, it was an amazing place, and I will definitely recommend it, especially Nicola, Freddie, and Ava, who were great staff members and very helpful."

It's clear that the management are having a detrimental impact on their staff. The bar staff were efficient and polite but, they were clearly miserable and one manager spoke to a member of her team in a very patronising and dismissive way. We visit this pub 3 times a year during our trips to Llanfyllin, and we've never experienced the dreadful atmosphere before. It's a real shame as the food is good and the pub is lovely but, we will definitely think twice about visiting again as we didn't like seeing the young staff members being treated so poorly. The management/owners really need to focus on morale as that will automatically feed through into their team Real shame.

Treated very well and was welcomed as if we were the most important of the day. Food excellent.

We were fit in last minute, The main was really good ( I ordered a Steak) but it was let down by the pudding, the waffle I ordered had been over microwaved and was hard in the middle. My partner ordered a cheesecake and didnt enjoy it, I think he was expecting a homemade cheesecake which it wasn't.

It's a very busy place, popular with all ages. I only had a main course, but it far exceeded my expectations: steak and blue cheese pie with mash, peas, and gravy. The meat was so tender it just flaked apart, and the flavour of the blue cheese made it really tasty. I have to say the pastry was really good, too. I have no hesitation in recommending this place.

We were a party of 5 and a dog. We called ahead to book a table. We were shown to our table and greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff. We all ordered something different, even the dog from the dog menu. All meals came out hot, fresh and very tasty. All of enjoyed it so much, we decided to book for the following evening. We all ate again the following evening and the experience was very much the same. Great food, all homemade and fresh. Good value for money, great service, very dog friendly. We will return again.

Went with my daughters for a birthday meal. The staff were friendly and the menu choices vast. Our food arrived promptly and was delicious. Courtney was very helpful when dealing with us. Will visit again.

Only 4 stars for food because we chose something basic, but nothing wrong with it. Very pleasant beer garden.

Always have 3 or 4 ales that are served at their very best. The restaurant gets very busy so it's best to book. The menu is quite extensive and the food is always great. There's a specials board too that always has a soup, a pie and a Thai curry.

Food and prices was great all 6 of us enjoyed it only problem was where we sat There were a lot of flies , only seemed to be us everyone else seemed to be ok but we were out of the way with having the dog x

VERY BAD Steak was overcooked, ordered medium rare but it was near charcoal - complained but no offer to replace after finishing mains waited for desert menus for over half an hour but no one attended even though the area was empty - went to nearby café for a desert

Thought we’d give the Raven a second chance as first visit about a year ago was not great. The meal was ok (1 x pie and chips, 1 x quiche and chips) the biggest issue was the chunky chips. They looked great but let down by lack of taste and being a bit dry. Think the vinegar is cheap or watered down as that didn’t make a difference. The waffle dessert was lovely but the Bailey’s cheesecake was a bit sickly. Will we try again? Maybe in another year or so but better meals locally. Staff were lovely as was the setting and convenient location but a bit underwhelmed.

Stumbled across The Raven Inn when travelling through and needed a dog friendly place to eat. Staff were warm and welcoming. It was clean and had a nice atmosphere. The food was very nice and the portions large. Me, my wife, and daughter shared the camembert and knew that we would be leaving very full and satisfied. We all had a wrap, they were stuffed full with toppings, and the chilli cheese fries were awesome... layered with american style cheese and jalapeños, and topped with grated cheddar. Cannot highly recommend this place enough!!!

Called in for lunch on way home from holiday in Pembrokeshire. Nice pub with a lovely outside area.All four of us enjoyed our lunch,I had Confit Duck leg and it was very nice!Dog friendly too,highly recommended if your in Welshpool!

Very good staff, good menu with Variety, the locally sourced produce is very tasty, great position on the outskirts town with good parking, dogs are welcome and spoilt.

Always had a good meal here on the way home, bar area at the front cosy, comfortable and dog friendly.

Only went in for a drink but definitely had food envy when we saw the food. Will definitely visit the 2 Nd week off our holiday

Just celebrated by Dad's 90th here, and the staff were amazing, friendly and attentive. We ordered a buffet, which was awesome... but my mouth was watering at their Sunday lunches. Great place

My wife said it was the best Sunday lunch she has ever had. I had the chicken salad. It was edible, just. For pudding, I had the apple crumble. Anyone who knows me knows I eat apple crumble a few times per week. The Ravens apple crumble was the worst I have ever had. Stewed apples with what appeared to be porridge oats on top. Crumble, it was not. As for the service, we waited 20 minutes to be served. There were 3 people behind the bar. 2 were talking non stop and one was serving. On leaving the premises, as we do at all restaurants, we said "thank you, goodbye". Not one person said anything to us. The waitress staff were great. We always return a second time to every restaurant, no matter how good or bad it was. I hope by then, they have made improvements.

What a lovely pub on the outskirts of Welshpool! We had main meals, and the dog had a doggy dinner too! Service was great with friendly waiting staff who ensured we lacked nothing. I would certainly recommend this place!
