The Raven Inn in Powys

For a very busy place, we were served quickly, friendly and the food was amazing. The steak my other half had was better than the steak we were served at Miller and carter a couple of weeks ago. Would highly recommend this place for people who are visiting.

8oz Steakburger was dry and tasteless, coleslaw was tasteless as well, all you could taste in it was Mayo. Inn looks nice and clean, staff was kind and helpful.

The pub looks nice inside and out but the food is sub par. The chips were simply frozen chips heated in an oven and the burger was over cooked and dry. I would say it's akin to Whetherspoons quality.

We were visiting Welshpool to meet up with family and came across the Raven Inn online a few days before coming. The website homepage is very dog friendly and then we were surprised at how many items were Gluten Free for one of our party. We had a corner table by the fireplace which suited us with the dog The menu was delicious, the desserts were yummy and even the dog had a menu too. The bar staff were friendly, one of the younger waiters was clearly new to the job as he took some plates away whilst others were eating and didn’t really engage with us. However we were really impressed and we will be back to this great establishment.

We ate here twice in two days. Absolutely brilliant service and great quality food. Great quick service.

Our go to when at our holiday home. Really relaxed atmosphere, home cooked Great food. Highly recommend a visit to this pub / resturant. They do a lovely Malborough "Mayfly" and we have never had a bad meal here having visited several times now. They allow dogs and the "doggy dinners" are always well received. The children's menu is great too. All of the staff are really welcoming and attentive without being overbearing. Lovely quirky decor and the fish tank is a big hit with our little one.

Amazing food amazing staff , the huge stake is cooked to perfection and absolutely stunning Sunday lunch. See you again soon.

Up in Welshpool woth work on a Sunday, called around 20:30 asking if food was still available, informed they stopped serving in 15 mins, so placed the order over the phone, walked in to a friendly welcome and my food ready for me. The steak was cooked perfectly and the rest of the food i couldn't faulter. Highly recommend the pub for its food drink and service

A great place for food after a trip on the Railway, the place was very busy when we went, but we were found a table for 9 straight away, the service was prompt considering how busy it was. Good choice of drinks and food. The food was very good.

We had lunch at The Raven for mother's day , it was lovely ! I can honestly say it was the best meal in a long time ! Plus Nicola the waitress was fabulous! What a lovely lady and welcoming face 😊 definitely will be returning 😊

If you're travelling to Wales from Birmingham, this fabulous pub is a must! Took Mouse the dog where he was fussed by the staff and made to feel really welcome. If you're eating, please consider the black pudding stuffed chicken with whisky and peppercorn sauce, it's absolutely delicious, and such a lovely change from cod and chips! Definitely coming back next time we go to Wales.

Fantastic Sunday lunch at the Raven. Prompt service at a very busy time. The staff are helpful and attentive. The pork today was succulent and everything was cooked perfectly. Can’t recommend this enough.

We rang and booked on Sunday for Sunday lunch hoping we could get in , we got in for 2.30 pm the pub was busy when we got there and the food looked great the staff are well organised and we soon had a drink and our table we had 3 beef and 1 pork Sunday roast with the vegetables , everything was first class the food was fantastic and the beer and service excellent and it's dog friendly , great pub we will return .

One of those places you drive past and mean to visit. So we did and we will be back. Got in early and hadn't booked bit they found us a table if we could be gone by a certain time which was fantastic. Made us feel welcome rather than an inconvenience. Smiles wherever you looked. Drinks were great and food choice perfect. Food arrived quickly and four empty plates suggest it was enjoyed by all. Certainly the best Sunday roast in a pub I have had. Well decorated and clean rustic feel. Can imagine it gets busy in peak times so I would book in future to secure a table in this gem of a pub with great food and drink that doesn't bust the bank. Now had our 5th visit and still can't fault it, great selection of drinks to enjoy outside in the sun.

I will be dead honest and it’s only my opinion - the food was good - I had the £24.95 steak with the blue cheese sauce that was extra - steak was cooked well and good quality- the sauce was poor compared to others I’ve had in other places, chips mushrooms and onion rings all very nice ! I think giving my honest opinion you could probably get the same quality meal for a lot less - that’s not to say it wasn’t nice to eat - it was good quality but almost at an “a la carte” price , For a well above quality pub meal . So to be honest for nearly £30 for a plate it should have been amazing- but it wasn’t Things are really tough out their - so it’s hard to judge in todays climate !!

Dog friendly, they even get options on the food menu. Loved it.

Great food and friendly staff. Arrived at 5pm and it was nearly fully booked but they found us a table as it was just the 2 of us. The kids meal was a good size, lovely skin on chunky chips and homemade chicken nuggets. Hallumi wrap was good too - none of the rubbery stuff here. They let us park our camper van in the car park for the night too. Nice decor and comfortable surroundings.

Lucky to get a table 5pm on a Saturday. They were turning people away after us. Great pub. Friendly staff. Even had a special separate menu for Burns Night, including haggis, wasn’t expecting that. Everyone was very pleased with everything

The salmon Mornay was so over cooked it was almost impossible to eat, I don't know how many times it had been cooked. It was not worth £17.95, a ready meal from Iceland would have been more favorable.

The chicken Burger was very dry and hard to bite into. It was over cooked and lacking sauces. It was not worth £16.50 and I could have ordered the equivalent, if not better, from Wetherspoons. We were in a large group for a birthday meal and waited 35 minutes for my friends starter to come through whilst I ate mine alone. Very poor timing of bringing out the dishes. Extremely overpriced for very mediocre meals. I will not be returning to The Raven Inn.

The Raven appeared to be fiendly the food was as expected but what really upset us was as we were leaving one of the staff approached us and in front of a busy bar asked "Have you paid " Luckily my husband always asks for a receipt when paying by card . This was so embarassing as we had taken a relative that we were visiting out for lunch. Not inpressed What would of happened if we had not had the receipt .

I've been here for lunch on several occasions the most recent being a few days ago. I can't fault it: the food is wonderful, the service great, lovely ambience. Bonuses: no loud, unwanted music to spoil conversations, huge car park, dogs allowed. I wish someone would move Welshpool nearer to where I live so I could go more often!

Lovely setting, clean, and tidy throughout. There is plenty of variety on the menu. Helpful, friendly staff. Delicious food, nicely presented, and good-sized portions. So popular when we visited that they could have done with a bigger car park!

I’d love to say the Food was fantastic.. went for my partners birthday meal.. Completely ruined by bar staff assuming we had done a runner cause we were cuddled by the fire.. didn’t see us sitting in the corner and heard them saying we were dodgy!!! Unbelievable.. if I was going to try and steal the meal.. I’d have ordered a pudding and got drunk as well.. it was £109 hardly going to break my bank!! just cause we are young and have tattoos and don’t look to their standard.. doesn’t give you an excuse to think we don’t have money to pay for our meal.. huge thanks for making us feel like awful…

We went for a family lunch yesterday - eleven of us - the Raven was absolutely heaving all afternoon but our food was amazing and the service was excellent. Staff are lovely and friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. Think the staff need a shout out for how well they coped and the great service they gave. Really enjoyable afternoon.

Decided to try The Raven this evening and it was great. My partner is Lancashire born and bred so happy with his pie. Son had the Cajun chicken burger and was very happy. I have a small appetite so asked for the Whitbait starter as a main meal and wasn't disappointed, lovely and crisp

There was a dog. I was happy. My dining companion loved the log fire. The massaman curry pie was delicious. A couple of hard chips but nothing that the pie didn't make up for. Staff were very friendly.

Delicious meal served by caring staff with a warm welcome for us. It was a little quiet on Sunday evening, in the rear restaurant where we ate but none the worse for it as the food was so good. Excellent brisket and fabulous puddings. Well worth a trip if you are in Welshpool

First and last time to visit, the restaurant was so packed with tables and chairs that I had to keep moving for people to pass, every time a waitress squeezed by I expected to get covered in food as she lifted plates up over my head, when our food arrived it was mostly inedible, don’t have the nachoes unless you like eating grease & curdled cream and the mild curry was way off the scale for hot, the gammon steak couldn’t be chewed it was like cardboard, complaints were met with a shrug of the shoulders.

Food review! The Raven in Welshpool. Camembert sharer with a portion of fries. This was the best, THE VERY BEST, camembert ever. It even beats anything we've had in France. Baked in conit garlic (whatever that is) and rosemary, plus home made chutney (also the best ever) and loads of ciabata bread. The fries were also up there with the best. All in all it was staggeringly amazing for £18 (£9 each) I even made mini ciabata snacks with what was left over to take back to our Gothic Airbnb house. Beck, the amazing barmaid even gave us a takeaway box. Beck is an absolute superstar. If every pub/ restaurant had someone like her they would be as busy and successful as the Raven. The Raven is now one of my top five pubs ever. Scores Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Food quality 20/20 Value for money 11/10 This gives the Raven a score of 101% 😀😀😀

We were staying in Welshpool for my 40th birthday. We chose to eat at the Raven, the staff and the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. We both ordered the Steak and Ale Pie which was out of this world. The best pie I've ever tasted. Other delicious food looked incredible, there was so much to choose from. I wish this was my local, would dine here at least three times a week. Highly recommend, 5 * Will definitely be coming back if ever in Welshpool. Thanks for such a wonderful lunch on my birthday weekend.

The staff and atmosphere were great, the food however was not. Two meals overcooked, and another undercooked, very disappointing.

The Raven Inn is a real gem. From the moment you walk in, the beautifully designed interiors create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food is exceptional—everything tastes genuinely homemade, with that comforting, authentic touch that’s hard to find. The staff couldn't be friendlier, always attentive and genuinely happy to help, which makes the whole experience even better. It's also very dog-friendly, which is a huge plus; they even have an extensive dog menu that shows real thought for our furry friends. Despite being close to a main road, the inn is surprisingly quiet, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. I can't recommend it enough!

We went for pie of the day, faggots and children’s gammon. Food was gorgeous. Staff all very friendly. This was our second time here and we will definitely be back. Thanks very much.

We travel from the Midlands to Wales fairly regularly and found this gem a few weeks ago. First visit was great, it's a lovely dog friendly pub/restaurant. Nicely decorated, friendly staff, good beer and food, all good. This time no different. We had lunch late and turned up here for dinner but not feeling overly hungry. They were fine with an adult having a kid's meal, and I had a sandwich. Just nice to find somewhere that is happy to accommodate your needs. We had great food again, a bowl of water for the dog, kids enjoyed their food, service was good, friendly and timely. I don't think there's much more you could ask from a restaurant. This is now a regular stop for us, really nice, you should definitely visit!!

My wife and I came here as part of the 1940s weekend experience. Also our 37th wedding anniversary. We were made welcome right from the start. Plenty of choices for gluten free , in particular the dessert range which can often be limited. Waiting time was excellent, staff very attentive, both serving food and bar staff. There seemed to be a genuine warmth between the staff. My wife had Chicken Curry and I plumped for the Chicken and ham pie. Both excellent. Puddings were also exceptional. A night of torrential rain but didn't dampen our spirits at all. Highly recommended

A rather unsatisfactory Sunday dinner. For both price and taste were lacking, £16 for a vegetarian roast without the nut roast. Both lacking in service (no table service) and flavour. Although the pub itself was pleasant and warm, open spaced and nice tables.

Spent a pleasant evening here with the dog after a day out in Mid-Wales. Food was excellent quality and the service was superb. Great to see Faggots on the menu - absolutely delicious!

We sat at a window table with our two dogs here and had a lovely time. Service was spot on even while they were short-staffed, as waiters were buzzing around like busy bees. The food was delicious and well-presented. The place was very well decorated with character. People were very friendly and chatty as well. Highly recommended.

They have a menu for dogs. My dog insists that I give them 5 stars because his bowl of chicken was delicious.

We went here on Wednesday for a meal, I had the special board Stewed beef pie with mash and veg. I have never tasted such a delicious pie, absolutely yummy.

We didn't try the food. We arrived at 7:50 p.m., the person who received us at the bar told us that we had to wait for a table to become available at 8 p.m. No problem, we are seated at a small table at the entrance while we wait, we have a drink. Time passes, tables become available, waitresses pass by, no one seats us to eat, we are ignored while other people who arrived after us without reservation are seated. 8:20 p.m. we go back to see the person at the bar... and there we are told that we just have to manage, take a menu card from the dining room and order!?!

A lovely pub with a great atmosphere. When I gave a 5* rating for food, I can't say a rating myself as I didn't have food but give it a 5* from our little pup who had the 5oz steak from the doggy menu and ate the lot so it must have been good. 👍🏼👍🏼

"I was driving through beautiful Wales, and on the way, I saw a lovely place to take a break. I parked my car and went for food; it was amazing—great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. They were super busy and full of people ordering food. I was told there would be a 40-minute wait, but the wait was worth it because the food was very delicious. During my meal, three staff members came to check if I needed anything. In the end, it was an amazing place, and I will definitely recommend it, especially Nicola, Freddie, and Ava, who were great staff members and very helpful."

It's clear that the management are having a detrimental impact on their staff. The bar staff were efficient and polite but, they were clearly miserable and one manager spoke to a member of her team in a very patronising and dismissive way. We visit this pub 3 times a year during our trips to Llanfyllin, and we've never experienced the dreadful atmosphere before. It's a real shame as the food is good and the pub is lovely but, we will definitely think twice about visiting again as we didn't like seeing the young staff members being treated so poorly. The management/owners really need to focus on morale as that will automatically feed through into their team Real shame.
