Beautiful food. On the night we stayed they served smoked salmon and capers, ham hock terrine and carrot soup with, wait for it, a peanut butter and honey sandwich and it was delicious (never would thought it but it really worked). Also, beef wellington and potato dauphinoise, gnocchi, delice, poached pear, chocolate mousse, sticky toffee pudding and cheese and biscuits. Three courses for £50. Wine started at £25 a bottle and they have a number of Welsh wines to offer. Service was friendly but discreet and the dining room is quiet and respectful. Loudmouths steer clear - it's not your sort of place. Romantics and foodies encouraged.

This is one very special proprrty. Situated in the beautiful Brecon Beacons on the English and Welsh borders with spectacular views. The gardens are immaculate. On entering the hotel, you are immediately drawn to the amazing art collection and antiques.. A warm welcome awaits you. The suits are beautifully appointed with everything you would expect to find. We dined on both nights in their award winning dining room, which was of an extraordinary high standard, in our estimation faultless. If you are looking to spend some quality time away, then we would, without hesitation, recommend Llangoed Hall. We look forward to returning. Continued success with all that you do.

After a good meal here last year whilst staying in Wales, we had hoped to repeat the experience when holidaying this year. It took me 3 months to book a table in their restaurant as their website wasn't working, the phone constantly went to answerphone with no messages answered, and when I emailed explaining the problem they just replied telling me to book online or phone. I should have taken the inability to contact them, coupled with the poor re views, as a warning and just gone elsewhere. However, when someone did eventually answer the phone I made the booking for 5 weeks time, and received an email confirming it. Five weeks later, the night before we were due to dine at the Llangoed Hall, I received an email telling me they were unable to accommodate our reservation as they had an exclusive wedding booked for that day. They tried to blame the online booking system even though they knew I booked over the phone and the hotel personally emailed me confirming it. If I had cancelled our booking at such short notice, under their terms, they would have charged me 50% of the estimated cost of our meal, so I suggested that it was only fair that it should work both ways and they compensate us similalry for the inconvenience, disappointment and their serious lack of professionalism. Needless to say this avaricious business had no intention of making any goodwill gesture, except offering a free bottle of plonk were we ever stupid enough to try and dine there again.

I have just returned from the most disappointing hotel visits in my 88 years of life. The visit was to boost my wife's convalescing from major open heart surgery. Having visited Llangoed before, we expected to be treated the same as always. Gone was a generous smile from the reception. No immediate assistance with baggage up the stairs, only a conveyance to show us the room.Poor thing she looked really overworked. As expected, there was no welcoming note to our room from the General Manager together with the decanter of sherry as previously. On arriving for dinner, I had to look for some to serve us pre dinner drinks. In fact, this happened every night of the 3 days we stayed. It was unlike previous visits, where attention to detail was out standing. The meals certainly not cordon bleu as you would expect .On 2 occasions food was served on cold plates and we also had to have cups changed. For the breakfast on our last day there was an overworked waiter who did what he could with making tea but we left to help ourselves to a buffet that Premier Iinns would have put to shame All in all I blame the so called Management of this wonderful place that has so much history and ambience the cause of not having sufficient staff to uphold such a lovely place I say get Simon Pinney back it was perfect then when he ran Llangoed

We had a delightful afternoon tea ay Llangoed hall to celebrate my sister's birthday. The staff were friendly and attentive but not intrusive and our tea pots were topped up throughout! It was lovely to be given a private room with a door that opened out onto the garden. The tea table looked resplendent with cake stands and china and we were able to enjoy family reminiscences and laughter in lovely surroundings. Thank you Llangoed Hall !

We visited as a family event for afternoon tea.. we were extremely disappointed at the standard of the offering.. the tea was simply a tea bag in a pot. Not the loose leaf tea as advertised.. no additional hot water was offered. We had to ask for a pot of extra hot water. The cakes were not homemade. But bought. The scones were freshly deforested and crumbled . You couldn’t cut them . The cream to go on the scones was that hard we had to slice it. .. the sandwiches were extremely poor.. hard .. as if they had been made in the morning and not covered properly.. it is extremely sad but the atmosphere has completely gone form the former prestigious hotel. The price charged does not amount to the quality of the service, the food and the experience we had at Llangoed Hall.. very disappointing

What a disappointment, the hotel is not what it is hyped up to be. All advertising suggests it's luxury hotel with a great reputation for sumptuous dining. Far from the truth, furnishings are a bit tired and the food is definitely second rate. My pave of beef was the toughest stringy piece of beef I have ever tried to eat, it would not cut with the knife provided, it was inedible, I complained and it was replaced with my second choice of salmon which again was terrible, really dry and served with a sauce made up of fatty gouzons. Again I complained and an answer came back from the chef apologising for his mistake that it was a previously cooked salmon steak which he had reheated, certainly not what you expect when paying £240 for one night dinner and breakfast. My wife had no complaints about her meal and they tried to compensate with a free bottle of wine and deducted my meal from the bill. I accepted this but must say I would rather have had what I went there expecting.

I booked Sunday Lunch for 2 people at Llangoed Hall on the hotel website, and received the following confirmation by email: "We are delighted to confirm your reservation for Lunch at Llangoed Hall. Your booking details are below: Ref: BRDXVQZR Guest Name: Marilyn Thomas Date: Sunday, 18 February 2024 Time: 2:00 PM Guests: 2" We arrived at 1.55pm and informed the receptionist that we had a booking for Sunday lunch at 2pm. She informed us that we were booked in for afternoon tea and that Sunday lunch finishes at 1.30pm. I showed the receptionist my email from the hotel confirming my booking for Sunday lunch at 2pm, and was informed that there must have been a glitch on the website, and that only afternoon tea was available at 2pm as the kitchen closes at 1.30pm. We then left to look for an alternative venue for Sunday lunch. We also re-checked Llangoed Hall's website and again found that it was possible to reserve a table for lunch at 2pm on Sundays, despite the fact that we had just been informed that only afternoon tea is at that time. Fortunately, we were able to find an alternative venue that could accommodate us for Sunday lunch at short notice. However, if we had made a reservation for our wider family as we often do, then we may well have been unable to find an alternative at such short notice. Additionally, it was very inconvenient to have our time wasted through no fault of our own. We will not be re-booking Llangoed Hall.

Definitely not going back. Main course was not hot. Roast beef was too tough to cut with an ordinary knife, and difficult even with a steak knife. Yorkshire pudding was undercooked and stodgy. Honeycomb part of dessert was too hard to break into bite-sized pieces. To be fair, we were given a generous discount after we complained.

1. We arrived at 1.30 (table booked for 1.45). A lady member of staff came and asked us why we were there and obviously told her for Sunday lunch. She then walked away from us and left us standing in the hallway. 2. A young man came to our rescue and took us to the dining room to our table. We ordered a half bottle of sauvingnon blanc, which he brought to us and just placed it on the table (he did not open it and pour some for one of us to taste, neither was it in an ice bucket to keep cold). 3. We both ordered the salmon mousse with sea vegetables. It arrived but there was not a single sea vegetable in sight - only apples and a few bits of micro herbs. I have a stomach condition and cannot eat apples!!!! The roast beef was very nice but there was no seasonal vegetables only roast carrot, parsnip and a small portion of kale with three large roast potatoes and a huge yorkshire pudding served on the plate. 4. We were not offered tea or coffee after our meal. 5. The Ladies toilets were not very good at all with empty toilet rolls and bits of toilet paper on the floor and the paper towel bin was overflowing with used towels on the floor.

We feel this stay had some ups and downs but we'll not be returning due more to staffing issues. ROOM 5 Gorgeous room with amazing views. Door handle was falling off inside, TV remote not working and chandelier bulb out. ROOM 8 As we broke our stay we were moved to another room which we did feel was a class down from the original in terms of view, bed size and luxury. Major issue was the shower which had insufficient pressure to take a proper shower. This needs to be addressed by a professional plumber before another guest uses this room. Also bathroom TV remote not working. RECEPTION Rather confusing as no desk nor signposted. Not the most welcoming start. MAINTENENCE ALL maintenance issues should have been noticed before we checked in, it's not acceptable in a hotel of this class and price at all. CLEANING Bathrooms not that clean nor communal areas. Very odd as the hotel has overtly strick covid19 protocols. Also the refusal to not service rooms daily is absurd and illogical - cleaning should be more frequent not less. FOOD Good quality and mostly good service. Taster was very good. BARMAN Absolutely lovely chap who looked after us constantly. He created a wine pairing for us with our taster meal - really well done. DINING SUPERVISOR Really fun, friendly and so hard working. Always looking after us. Most of the other staff went out of their way to be flexible and attentive during our stay. With an exception... GENERAL MANAGERESS Whilst I'm sure she feels she is professional (and always right) in her emails, on the phone and in person she has a rather rude attitude. Not sure if this is something personal or because of our orientation but it has totally put us off the hotel. She is totally inflexible, condescending and rather negative in every single interaction. She made us feel very unwelcome. Mrs. Danvers from Rebecca crossed with Nurse Ratched and Frau Blücher! Well that's it. Everyone of the staff matters and it's unfortunate when one drags down the impression of the hotel for guests.

We dined on two consecutive evenings in the restaurant which is formal but not over large and our corner table was perfect. We didn't feel discomforted by the formality of the room and it reinforces the sense of occasion. The meal began by the huge roaring fire in the lounge when the chef, lui-meme, brought out some amuse-bouches which were varied and certainly got the taste buds working. Trying different starters we were all pleased with our choices and the intense flavours. Ironically one night we all had beef which was melt in the mouth. Coffee and petits fours in the lounge rounded off a very good meal. The white gloves seemed, in these days, a touch eccentric. The prices are a tad over many Midland and London Michelin starred restaurants - the grand hotels even! The pricing policy should reflect the market and its requirements and that is a management decision made by looking at the dining accounts. If anything London prices are moving downwards due to less formality and massive competition. This restaurant obviously holds a unique place in Mid Wales and long may its accommodating staff and skilled cooks survive!

Hi allWell .... my partner and I were part of a group who decided to have a special celebratory dinner. On arrival we were VERY impressed with the halls location and décor and we ordered ourselves a drink after a long drive...... erm.. well erm.. £20 was not enough.... be warned... enough said !!!! .... service was with a smile and I think an apologetic look. lol Our party arrived and after everyone had a drink we headed to the restaurant... After sitting down in an otherwise empty restaurant....Yes....Completely totally empty //// apart from the very attentive and well trained staff. We were presented with the menu and erm well erm.... we were truly shocked.... no we were genuinely fall off chair stunned at the prices..... suggestion to all check the menu and prices on the internet before visiting and make up your own mind. :-D Cutting to the chase we were embarrassed for the staff who no doubt have heard the exclamations of "How bleeping much" "your bleeping joking aren't you" so many times they must be selectively deaf lol. Be prepared to spend upwards of £70 min to £120+ a head yes that's each erm NOT INCLUDING WINE Might be cheaper to pay corkage lol. BE WARNED. The portions wouldn't feed a mouse so dont come here hungry lol .Though what we did eat was very tasty ( compliments to the chef and the service which was excellent)..... just not nearly enough to feed someone who was hungry. We have been to some of the top restaurants in England and abroad and this really erm bites the bullet..... The empty restaurant is testament to trying to be something they are not. They are NOT The Savoy or the Ritz. A question for the ruling Lord and Lady.... If eight people eat one course with one drink and then leave VERY unhappy and feeling like they have been robbed by Dick Turpin lol... how many others will they tell ???? Lower the menu and wine prices to realistic levels.. increase the portions so no one goes home hungry and hey presto you might be having to turn people away because your restaurant will be full of happy, well fed and free spending customers...simple business sense really isn't it................?

It was mums birthday when we came here and we thought it would be lovely to have a proper afternoon tea. Mum booked in advance for a "Full Afternoon Tea". You could choose other options but we decided to go for this as it was mums birthday. When we arrived, the whole building was very posh and obviously well looked after. We were greeted by a helpful waiter who showed us into the coffee lounge where we sat by the window. There were four of us (myself, mum, our friend and her 2year old daughter) The tea and coffee arrived first in bone china cups. Tasted like proper tea and coffee. We were very impressed! The cake stand and sandwiches then came out which included: Coronation chicken, egg&cress, smoked salmon&cream cheese, and ham&mustard sandwiches. The cakes were battenburgs, Victoria sponges, lemon meringue pies, fruit tarts, strawberry cupcakes, chocolate eclairs, scones with clotted cream&jam and raspberry panna cottas (all mini). We were told by a waitress that everything was homemade; from the sponges to the custard and cream including the bread for the sandwiches. It was all so delicious! Until... The waiter who greeted us returned with bill when we asked for it. He placed it down on the table and we all looked at each other in astonishment. What? £78?! Not including VAT! We were absolutely gobsmacked! Mum probably triple checked it to see if that was correct. It did not state this amount on the website. Once he had handed the bill, the waiter just disappeared and there was no sign of anyone to query the bill. After about half an hour looking for someone, the man finally returned. Much to our disappointment, the bill was correct. We would never of come if we knew it would be that expensive. There were also other couples having afternoon tea who looked like they do that often; we felt a bit inferior in the whole stay we were there. Not ever likely to visit here again, the food was lovely but not worth £78 (£26 per person!) and for the amount you got.

I can only comment on the breakfast, and not even on its price as we stayed on a B&B basis. (I'm not even sure they serve to outside people in the morning). The atmosphere is a bit awkward as it is extremely quiet, even with several couples in you could probably still hear a fly drop. The service is very good (unlike the welcome at the hotel) and high class: fine china and silver settings, the waitstaff wearing white gloves, always serving the ladies first, and if I am not mistaken, served to the right/removed to the left. The breakfast is like a 3-course meal and the food quality was excellent and well presented. I may be slightly biased in my review, as I was just so overjoyed not to be given just one cup of coffee (where inevitably I would have to chase staff every 5 minutes for a refill), but a full pot. And it was very good, strong coffee.

We stayed her on a living social deal, which was D,B&B. If it was B&B only, I would be raving about how good it was, as I did next time I stayed 2 weeks later. The dinner itself was made up of good tasty food, well presented and reasonable portion size. The service that accompanied it was amateurish at best.Upon arrival we had a tasty set of amuse bouche served, some of which were hot, but arrived before our pre-dinner drinks order, so cooled whist waiting. Then our wine was white, but warm, so further delays. Then taking our dinner order, the waitress was unable to describe ingredients in some dishes, and was unable later to say which cheeses would be on the cheese board.I was told next day, that they are usually better than that. Perhaps we were a lightening rod for everything to go wrong, but it dragged the experience down considerably, in what is far from a cheap establishment.Naturally, on my second stay, I ate elsewhere.Personally, I have no confidence in dining there again, despite other reviews, so feel that I should not commend it to you, although the food itself was of high standards, which is a shame.

Booked a full afternoon tea for two. We were greeted by extremely friendly and helpful hotel staff who made us feel very welcome. We were shown to our reserved table with two really comfy chairs. The waiter (Richard......I believe) offered us a selection of different teas, coffee and fruit juice! We settled for Breakfast tea and I also had a refreshing glass of apple juice with ice. A selection of finger sandwiches shortly arrived which included tuna, coronation chicken, ham and mustard and cheese and pear chutney on homemade wholemeal and white bread. These were accompanied by homemade vegetable chips and a salad garnish. This was followed by a wonderful selection of homemade cakes and pastries which included a cup cake, chocolate eclairs, lemon meringue, battenburg, Victoria sponge, scones, fruit tarts and scones with clotted cream and jam! The cakes tasted divine. We were offered a refill on our tea which we accepted. As it was a beautiful day we took the opportunity to walk around the well tended market kitchen garden and general garden areas, also seeing the chickens and ducks. Had a fabulously relaxing afternoon and would recommend.Only criticism........the ladies toilet could do with some TLC!

Well prepared food from local ingredients. The largest wine list that I've see -a book with an index for each wine by grape and country.

I had a gift voucher for a full afternoon tea so went last Sunday with 2 friends. Absolutely beautiful setting, we were met at the door by a very polite butler. We had a table set up with huge comfy settees.. We were handed a tea menu and all opted for the English breakfast. Within a few moments the tea turned up shortly followed by the biggest selection of cakes I have ever seen in my life!!! 3 tiers of Victoria sponge, macaroons, lemon meringue pie, chocolate brownie, chocolate eclairs, cup cakes, red velvet cake .... We didn't know where to begin! Before we had time to decide the waiter turned up with a selection of sandwiches, there was coronation chicken, salmon, egg and carrot and hummus with a selection of homemade parsnip and carrot crisps and fresh salad from the garden! Along with freshly baked scones, proper homemade strawberry jam with clotted cream and then a panacotta with apricot jam and rose petals! Absolutely unreal.. Everything looked and tasted amazing... None of us could fault one thing about the entire experience was first class from start to finish.. Would recommended to anyone!

My partner and I live locally to Llangoed Hall and have not been there since the refurbishmentand new owners this year. Yes the place is lovely and the staff very pleasant but the food is overpriced. The food is goodnot exceptional and certainly not worth £38.00 for a main course (novelle style) and £18.00 fora pudding, we didn't have a starter but I believe they were priced up to £24.00. We were the only people in the restaurant. A couple staying at the hotel came in as we were leaving. The bread selection was very good but the butter is served very soft and very salty, not good if you like unsalted butter. We will not return, we can eat forhalf that price or less at many fine restaurants in this area where the food is similar quality, and with more atmosphere. It is a shame because we live only 20 minutes from Llangoed. We have heard from other locals who say they will not return because of the price and maybe the new owners should take note if they do not want to have an empty restaurant when they do not have guests staying at the hotel.

On a delightfully sunny spring Tuesday off to Llangoed Hall where we were the only couple in the restaurant for lunch. What is going on? Superb starters of new season asparagus with poached egg, and parfait of chicken livers on toasted brioche were followed by pork belly and boulangerie potatoes, and feta and red onion tarte tatin. Both were outstanding as is the building. Three lounges, one with a snooker table, one a grand piano, one with the day's papers and all three with open fires (although unlit), offer plenty of entertainment looking about. The puddings, bread and butter pudding with real custard, and chocolate tart with chocolate parfait were superb. With house wine at £22 a bottle and the set menu for £25 this place should be packed. What is going on???

Wonderful menu, great variety and well priced. The service was excellent and the food was cooked to perfection. A beautiful venue for any occasion. Breakfast the next day was also faultless and lots of choices. The wine list is extensive and well put together. The staff are polite and professional. Excellent all round.

Loved the wonderful lounge (log fire)where we were given champage and canapes. My starter - sea bass with Crab ravioli and crushed potatoes. The ravioli was a little too cold, but still delicious. The main was Hake with dauphinoise potatoes, lobster and snails with vegetables served separately. This was very tasty indeed and looked lovely on the plateI chose Welsh cheeses for third course and had a very generous portion which was beautifully served with grapes, celery and biscuits. The cheese was a little cold. We were served coffee and petit four in the lounge.

The restaurant is a lovely space - elegant and well decorated with well judged lighting that provides an intimate and romantic setting. The service is swift, friendly and inobtrusive. The food I'm afraid is poor for the price. Starters are standard affairs - no creativity or imagination - Ok but the sort of thing you'll find in any decent pub or average restaurant. Mains were a huge disappointment - a relatively cheap cut of beef slow cooked which was OK but served with an apalling 'ravioli' of oxtail - the filling, dry dusty and tasteless. The accompanying jus was similarly lacking in flavour - vegetables were a bowl of mixed veg of the type served in the eighties - not fine or even fineish dining. This dish was even more disappointing because we had had a very similar dish at a new restaurant near to home a few weeks previous- it was simply stunning and not comparable. My dessert, a lemon tart suffered from nondescript pastry and an astringent filling - you'll find better in any supermarket. The cheese selection was woeful - a bland brie -ish cheese that was no better than standard supermart fare, a blue that was quite good and a disgusting white cheese with overpowering horseradish flavour(a huge mistake!!). Coffee is reasonable and petit fours very 'standard'.At 45 pounds a head (with no surprises such as amuse bouche etc.) this restaurant is poor value for money , the cooking is pedestrian and lacking in both imagination and elegance. The most astonishing thing of all was that we were told we would be served canapes prior to the meal - we were given a small ramekin of Bombay mix - the same stuff as I usually get gratis when waiting for my Indian Take - away. Llangoed Hall is a wonderful place to stay but hugely let down by a poor kitchen.

We had a takeaway this evening …. We’ve had a few from here before and we’ve eaten in there too … Not sure what went wrong tonight as it’s usually ALL 5 star but the Peshwari Naan was very wet inside and fell apart , the rice was very very greasy and the chicken in the Tikka Balti was very grissley . Poppadums were standard but oh my god the pickle tray is absolutely the bare minimum they can give out isn’t it , and it’s not enough for two people for sure . The veg platter was good , the seafood Silhetey was good but overall it just scraped a 4 out of 5 and my wife only wanted to give it a 3 …. Very disappointed and very surprised too if I’m honest . There’s so much competition nowadays that you have to be careful don’t you . We won’t go there again , like I said … it should have been a 3 star really 👍

Great place to stay. A friend and I cycled to the area and stayed here overnight. The owner is very accommodating and friendly. The room is a generous size with all the facilities you would want, and you have access to an outside deck area with lounge chairs and table which is ideal on a sunny day. The breakfast was also lovely. The location was great as it’s a 5 min walk from 2 good pubs and a post office/shop

Our first time here this morning. From the minute we walked in we was welcomed and seated. All staff were welcoming. Myself and fiancé ordered a full English, food was lovely not one fault and clear plates. I had a cappuccino which was tasty and perfect. We were approached and asked if everything was okay during our meal. We paid with cash and left a tip as we were very pleased. We will definitely be attending again on our next stay.

We have been visiting The Drover's for around 25 years. As a full Family initially, now just the two of us. Peter and his Team never disappoint. The welcome is always friendly and we do enjoy a modest pre Lunch drink in the cosy snug out the back. The views of the river are spectacular. It was a bit chilly to be sitting outside on the balcony but one brave chap did take his coffee out there! The food, well, you can't call it 'just Sunday Lunch! It's a foodie treat! Plenty of beautifully cooked food. Always hot and tasty. The quality is certainly there as well. Cannot fault anything and the Sweets are to die for! The atmosphere is invariably pleasant. A good mixture of Walkers, Holiday makers and Locals. Thanks so much for everything over the years Peter. We're already in the process of booking next year's trip to Wales, so keep an eye out for an email soon!
