The food was excellent, but the service was subpar and atmosphere was non existent. Please READ the website which mentions a 12.5% service charge on each bill. You should have known this before paying apparently. However, as you will see for yourself the 12.5% is not very clear and is infact in grey rather than in bold like the rest of the website. This is doltish and undermines diners. Nevertheless, the food was very good once it came (30 minutes after ordering). Just don’t be a “fool” like ourselves and do your research so you know you will have to pay 12.5% extra on top of your bill. As for the toilets they were not to standard for a hefty service charge. The “clinical like” waiting area was very cold too. A service charge can be discretionary or mandatory/compulsory. However, The Rasoi does not make it clear to its customers that there is a 12.5% service charge to be paid. Not only is it not addressed on their menus but it is in a faint grey coloured font on their website. It must be displaced on the FRONT of menus too!. Nevertheless, if the service is very poor uk law states the customer has the rights to refuse the service charge despite it being mandatory. This is the law! Having read some of these ghastly comments it seems that people were unpleased with the service but were still forced to pay the service charge. Please click this link to the gov.uk website and follow the blue hyperlink that you can click on and read in your own time which explains in detail what a compulsory service charge entails and you will see that the restaurant MUST make it clear to its customers …. https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/national-insurance-manual/nim02915 Furthermore, the staff didn’t speak to you or make you feel welcome. This place use to have an exuberant atmosphere (when it was the red fox) the owner use to smile and even did magic tricks (not asking for that of course) but at least tell your staff to crack a smile after all we are paying 12.5% extra for a n atmosphere and excellent service! We won’t be going again despite the good food. Attached is the website where you will see everything in black cold writing apart from the service charge!

- Not authentic Indian food, looks like Bangaladeshi food. - They charged us service charges 12% . Receipt is attached. - If you don’t like anything and you return it as is , they will still charge full amount for the dish. For us we did not like butter chicken which was full sweet and sugar . We just had one bite of taste it , I returned all dish but they charges us £13 for dish. Receipt is attached. - No high chair for kids - Restaurant head of the staff talk sweet but she is arrogant and will not listen of your request and she will just charge if you eat or return it when the food is bad. - Food quality and the roti portion size is too less compare to prices. Please don’t waste your money . There are many good real Indian restaurants across . I will never go to this “The Rasoi” again.

If you are Indian food fan and wanted to have real Indian food then this is not right place. 1) Butter Chicken is too sweet, we served in three dishesh with and tasted one piece of chicken from one dish and returned it all and all dishesh with untouched except one but restaurant charges me £13 instead they convinced us just cannot be refunded for Butter Chicken curry. 2) Taste is all food was like Bangladeshi food than Indian. 3) They charges us service charges £8.29 which other restaurant never charge. Receipt is attached for the proof. 4) They don’t have high chair for kids and when we requested they sweetly smile and said they don’t have it. Sorry to say but looks like it was not welcoming experience for us and we were completely upset of food and the staff. Please try other Indian restaurant.

We ordered takeaway early on a saturday night and went to collect 10 mins from our house. Pleasant staff on arrival and nice building but restuarant and bar was entirely empty. The food was awful. Bhajis so oily that they sat in a pool of it once plated up and thick dark brown oil dribbled down our chins when bit into them, dry very very small amount of monkfish, tiny sized portions compared to an average Indian takeaway, potatoes were part raw in our aloo and aubergine side dish, and most importantly, in the 'veggie samosas' ( the portion was just 2 very small mini samosas) we were given one meat one which I bit into and had to spit out as a vegetarian. All dishes were generally also lacking in flavour which i have never experienced with Indian food before. Truly awful experience and a colossal dissapointemt and waste of money. I fed back to the restaurant via email and they sent back a short generic 'thank you for your feedback' etc and made no offer of refund. I would suggest you avoid at all costs.

Quick drinks and starters, but an hour and three quarters from arriving until mains served is just too long. Then a 12.5% service charge! Shame that excellent menu let down by the service.

Don't know about the food as we left after waiting 20+ minutes for a table we booked for 8pm. 4 other groups ahead of us in the "drinks" area so no chance of us sitting down to eat anytime soon. Had to wait for menus, then for someone to wander over to ask if we wanted drinks, which they promotely forgot to give us. Full bin bags in view by the bar, bar completely covered with drink glasses and empty bottles and zero customer service. You either overbook your tables and hope that enough people bother waiting, or you understaff to save money. Either way that is no way to run a restaurant.

Long time since I have had to sit in a lounge area with a drink and menus, nice as we could talk and decide then taken through for the meal, enjoyed that but had a bit of wait, what with take aways and a large 8 people before us, food worth the wait.

We had a pleasant welcome from the staff at this restaurant. We had booked a table and were told to sit near the entrance until our table was ready. The restaurant had just 3 tables taken at the time. We ordered the drinks and shortly afterwards our meal order was taken, and we were shown to our table. The food was quick to arrive, but then there weren’t that many customers in the restaurant at the time. The food tasted lovely. It wasn’t overly spicy nor did it have stacks of flavour, but it was still lovely. There was one waiting staff who was very polite and pleasant, very prompt with his service, and who understood what we were asking for (East Asian chap). The rest seemed to have problems understanding basic English, and were void of any pleasantness towards customers. This interaction made the atmosphere somewhat cold. My sticking point with this restaurant was getting the bill and then paying for it, and this was something that proved to be somewhat of an ordeal after waiting 20 minutes for the bill and a further 10 minutes for someone to take our money. Despite this, I would return because I found the food to be very nice.

Living down the road, it's taken me a while to visit The Rasoi since its opening a few years ago. After seeing hospitality businesses flop in that location, I couldn't help noticing how there are always cars in the car park and people dining inside every night the restaurant is open. One thing that has always baffled me is the table in the window by the traffic light. On multiple occasions while in my car I couldn't help but look in at the people sat at that table thinking "why on earth would you sit at that table?" because I can't be the only traveller who can't resist the urge of staring in. Nonetheless, last night, my girlfriend and I finally visited. The service was very friendly and helpful; we were first sat on comfy chairs while our table was prepared and we were able to look through the menu at this point. My girlfriend then informed me that when making our reservation on the phone, she had specifically booked the window table, simply because I had gone on about it in the past and when passing. So, after ordering our meals, we were led to the table in the window. The poppadums gave generous portions of pickles and sauces which were all delicious, but an easy mark to hit. Then, the curries arrived. These curries were by far the most delicious meals I've ever had at an Indian restaurant. The Karahi in particular had a place in my dreams last night. The sauces were well balanced and the meat was tender and succulent. The naans were on the smaller side, but very tasty. The one bit of criticism would be that we were either not given the chilli naan we ordered, or the chilli naan wasn't very spicy. All in all it was a brilliant night and I can't wait to see how well they do the other curries on their menu as I now intend to go through them all. I must admit that now I understand why people sit, or don't mind sitting at the window table and that's because you have such a good time with the delicious food inside, you're not paying any attention whatsoever to the drivers staring at you outside.

Just had a delicious meal at this charming, friendly restaurant. I've been a vegetarian for over ten years now and whilst I always enjoy a vegetable curry, the mix of vegetables can never fully replace the taste and texture of a chicken based dish. Because of this I was curious to try The Rasoi's Quorn Massala dish and I was not dissapointed. Large Quorn fillets are marinated in a rich Massala sauce and then further smothered in it for serving. The Quorn pieces retained their firm, chicken like texture but the marinade had properly soaked in and the generous serving of filet was juicey and tasty. For vegetarians who often pine for the simplicity of a chicken style dish in place of the vegetable mix we often get, I can heartily reccomend a visit to this fine and homely establishment.

We used to often eat here when it was the Red Fox. It used to be run with military precision, exquisite customer service and excellent food so when our friends from the Midlands came to visit, we booked a table for 19:30 to treat them to a great meal out. What a complete disappointment. We arrived exactly on time and were told to sit in the lounge area which we did. We sat with a drink waiting, waiting, waiting. At 20:15, I spoke to the Manager and asked that someone take our food order, I was told "someone will be over in a minute", she was very busy talking and joking with her friend. Eventually, they took our food order and after over an hour waiting in the lounge, we were shown to the table. We had the table cleared as we were told that our main course was on its way at 20:30, it wasn't. When it did finally arrive about another 15 minutes later, only 3 of the meals came and we had to wait for the 4th 5 or so minutes later. I should point out that there was only about 10 customers in the restaurant at this time. Don't get me wrong, when the food eventually came, it tasted very nice but it was not a patch on what the place used to have. The Naan bread was tiny, about the size of a small side plate cut into 4 triangles. My friend had a cheese naan, there was no cheese anywhere near it. We paid £120 for abysmal service, rude management who clearly didn't care less about their customers. When I booked, I got an email reply stating "Please confirm this reservation is for 4 ADULTS Many thanks Sent from my iPhone" Clearly, all they wanted was to be able to serve adults to make sure they drank alcohol (which I don't) and couldn't even be bothered to use a personal greeting. In this day in age, it shouldn't even come into my mind if this was a sexual orientation issue and they won't have known that from the initial booking email but either way, this place is terrible. It is not surprising that the car park is always empty. Utterly disappointed and very unimpressed, will not be going back, we should have stuck to our plan of going to Indivala down the road, in fact, at one point we had waited so long I jokingly said I would go there, get a take away and bring it back. I truly cannot see how this place got 4.7 stars. Go somewhere who values their customers, don't waste your time here.

Initial view is that the premises are very nice, invested upon and hope that this carries through the whole experience. Unfortunately not though.... From the onset, service was poor and it appeared the Staff weren't simply confident nor competent in what they were doing. We booked for 7pm, originally via the app on their website (we received an immediate auto-reply, but no confirmation of our booking). I even phoned ahead at 6:15pm to confirm if the table was available and received a very confusing reply, saying that I can't book online, on the day, but its "okay, they'll fit us in", even though I had actually booked 4 days prior. I then confirmed (again) my booking, and they said "all will be ok". However... on arrival, surprise surprise, they weren't expecting us and left us in the bar, along wth another group booking for in excess of 30+ mins, while pushing to take our order from the bar. I wouldn't mind, but it wasn't even that busy in the restaurant area. Eventually, we were shown to our table, which fortunately was set out nicely and was very comfortable. The starters arrived and the food was very nice, yet the service (again) was a state of confusion i.e. no offers of drinks, despite the staff clearly noticing empty glasses. Pictures show our food choices as they did indeed taste as good as they looked. Mains were ok and desert tasted nice, but the latter was already half melted by time it appeared (possibly down to the confused service). Again, service was disappointing at the end, even asking for the bill. We were left for 20+ mins waiting for someone to appear with a card machine, so we have up and walked to the bar to pay and leave. We'll return if they service can improve drastically as the food was generally good.

Would give 0 if I could. Where do I begin! We ordered food at 7:20pm and was told it would be 40 mins. Got there at 8pm and was told a few minutes wait. Half an hour later and the gent in front has complained he's been waiting 1 hour and 20 mins. The restaurant was empty with 4 people in the lounge! I too chased up our food and the young lad wasn't at all bothered he just dragged his feet to the kitchen. Gent before us finally got his food with no compensation he left with his food and a rude remark from the manager of all people. When receiving the food at 8:50pm manager met us with a blank apology and told us once of the chefs had left in an emergency. I told him the wait was fine the dishonesty was the issue. Don't tell us a few minutes wait and give us an expectation you know cannot uphold. On getting home we had to then call back up as the food wasn't labelled and I am vegan. Good job I'm not allergic isn't it? The manager answered and was so rude down the phone. Arguing with us giving silly excuses and being defensive and he told us to never order from us again. With pleasure!! In all my 7 years working in hospitality I've never witnessed such shocking customer service from a restaurant and staff who clearly don't care. They should be ashamed of themselves as I know I would be working for such a place knowing what was going on. Embarrassing. There's a reason it's always empty!!

Chance visit but worth the 40 minute journey again on tonight's experience. Clay Pot Lamb was truly incredible and the service and welcome was equally good. Thank you for a wonderful experience

Although a forty minute drive for us it’s well worth the effort, the food and service are first rate, lamb Madras is my bench mark curry at every Indian restaurant I go to and the Rasoi’s was right up there.

Called in for a takeaway as we were passing and as always we were delighted with our food (especially the clay pot chicken). We have not had a bad meal from here and we recommend The Rasoi to all our friends.

Friendly (takeaway) service, (used twice in last month), great food, starter portions a little small though, compared to other restaurants. Highly recommended overall

Last minute decision originally. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Butter chicken was superb and veggie options aplenty. We enjoyed it so much, we went again shortly afterwards. Add to this the extremely pleasnt service from the lady on the phone/reception and we have winner.

Second time in a row food was late and this time 30 minutes late and you pay £5 delivery doesn't seem right. Food missing on both occasions also only just warm so had to put it in the oven. Used to love the place but seems to be going down hill lately unfortunately.

Unfortunately, the Chicken Makhani lid wasn’t on and spilt all over our vegetarian dish (biryani) which was thrown away. The makhani had to be served by slicing the paper bag at the bottom. The mixed madras was perfect!

Both curries tasted exactly the same. When I told the lad this he made a non-committal noise but after the meal the manager behind the bar came over and explained that they’d run out of one of the “pastes”?! So - they were the same. Would have been better to have been advised beforehand as mine was far too hot for my personal taste. Nice people, nice surroundings, average food, poor communication. By the time you’ve added rice to your dishes, curries are becoming expensive. Let’s face it, we don’t have to add on £3-4 for potatoes and vegetables if we go to a pub. This needs to change.
