We have never visited this pub before but will definitely be back. It’s much nicer on the inside than you would think - large, nicely decorated rooms. Very light & clean. Friendly staff, quick table service. The menu has a good selection of traditional pub food with some nice lighter options - soup & half a sandwich was proving very popular. All our food was very fresh & hot. Good selection of drinks as well.

Been here for a drink so decided it was time to try the food. Saturday lunchtime with the family. Wonderful. Service was top notch, food was amazing. Starters and mains cooked to perfection and portions were such that we didn't have room for dessert... that's for the next visit. Would definitely recommend.

I should have realised - a pub this empty on a Sunday lunchtime is not a good sign. Ordered roast beef - and it was delivered about 10 minutes later which is fine, pretty standard stuff for a pub geared up to sell roast meals on a Sunday. However this has to have the worst roast so far( I am slowly trying as many as I can) - tough ( supposedly sirloin) I am sure it was only the gelatinous gravy warming the meat.- barely roasted tats. Such a shame in the current comic climate that a business cannot get the basics right - do hope they move on and someone who actually cares takes it over.

Turned up after a dog walk round the lake. Sat outside. The whole place was clean and tidy and most of the tables, occupied. A straightforward, short, interesting and uncomplicated menu. We were told it could be 45 minutes as everything was freshly cooked. And it was. Lovely ladies serving and the 2 dishes arrived within the suggested time. Lovely, clean presentation. The green vegetables were vibrant and perfectly cooked. That was a clear sign that the rest of our dishes would be equally good. And they were. We stopped there today just by chance. Next time....it will be by plan!

Friendly unpretentious traditional pub serving homecooked food. Visited for lunch with friends. We were given a warm welcome by friendly staff. The menu offered a good choice including specials. We opted for the salmon served on a bed of sag aloo and the steak pie from the specials board. Followed by desserts. Everything was delicious, good quality and well priced. The pub was busy so might be worth booking.

I had been here before with friends and so impressed I wanted to introduce it to my husband. We called in for lunch one weekday on spec and were greeted by friendly and professional staff. Somehow this pub manages to combine a well-managed restaurant with the informality of people enjoying a drink by the bar. This is something the Irish manage so well but we were not expecting to find it so near to home. Delighted that we did and the food was freshly cooked, beautifully presented and delicious.

Met up with some friends.. for a catch up for drinks and dinner...was surprised how busy the bar area was... our table was suitable for the friends and were served by friendly bar-staff. Menu was adequate and read well... a few of us went for whitebait... although it was tasty and hot, I thought a little side of bread would have been nice. Mains came and were presented nicely ... however the Parmesan crisp was admitted from a couple of plates with the risotto.. had to ask for them.. one person ordered the roast chicken.. this was very dry and chewy.. had clearly been overcooked and dried out.. think the other peoples burgers looked and tasted ok! Staff were friendly chatty and helpful at all times ... just to add there were many errors with spelling of items on paper menu... overall slightly disappointed with food quality!

Had dinner at the Rampant Horse on a Wednesday evening, I was surprised how busy it was and was pleased I had booked. We were given a very warm welcome and an array of local ales were on display. The menu is traditional pub food with all the usuals. We each chose the fish & chips which were good, it comes with lots of chips, be warned. The staff were very friendly and did not rush us to leave once we had finished. A nice little find. 👍🏻

We live local to the ramp and it's become a firm favourite. A great spot for a quick drink with a decent sized beer garden. Often have fabulous entertinment, live music etc. Also a lovely spot for a quieter lunch/dinner in their dining area (away from the drinkers!). Food is always without fault, not a huge menu but good variety so something for everybody and the quality is fantastic.

Good quality pub grub - the fish and chips was delicious - light and crispy batter with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Ramp burger also very good. This pub has been sold, taken over, remodeled and now re-opened.The new people have never run a pub before and it shows! We went at lunchtime on the first day it opened having seen the progress over the fence and on Facebook. You were supposed to wait at the entrance to be checked in and shown to a table, due to covid rules but some people were getting fed up of waiting and just sitting down. We eventually got seen and seated. After another wait we were given a limited sandwich menu. There was no drinks list. No Coca Cola, only Pepsi. Limited choice. We ordered a couple of drinks. We were then spoken to several times by wait staff who went off to check but our drinks never arrived. We noticed some folks had burgers that were not shown on the menu. I guess you had to ask?We had sat for half an hour but they had repeatedly forgotten our order and blamed it on it being their first day. We got up and left.We didn't like the vibe of the place to be honest We spoke to a bloke later who reckoned he got messed about there and he'd found the beer was bad and they charged him £4.80 a pint, which is a rip off in Needham - that's a London price. No price list on show though. On top of that using the car park as a temporary beer garden meant the Station Yard car park was over full impacting neighbouring business whose customers could no longer park.I was never a fan of Calvours beers but at least their people were professional and knew how to run a pub....

We ate here on New Year’s Day with a family group of 20, we had pre-booked and were all asked to pre select our food which we did.On arrival me and my wife asked to change our desert for a starter which was done but when another member of the group asked they were told we have already changed 2 !My wife ordered chicken goujons (ie plural) as a starter but for £5 just 1 goujon arrived which was disappointing and not great value for money for a fiver !The pork belly was on the menu to pre-select from stating that it came with dauphinoise potatoes, but we were told that this was now not available so people who had chosen pork had to select another potato dish which again was disappointing, apparently they had prepared the dauphinoise potatoes but burnt them !The pork meat whilst very tasty came with no sauce or gravy so a jug of gravy was requested, this dish also came with carrots which were so undercooked you struggled to cut them with a normal knife and also had an awful chemical smell and aftertaste, so these were inedible. All in all the food was average and service particularly from what I assume was the landlord was a little frosty !I appreciate this is just pub grub but the service (particularly as the food bill alone was £320) and some food could and should of been a lot better.

The food here is reasonably priced and really good for a village, sorry, TOWN pub. Great specials, cooked beautifully and served in good time with a lovely smile. Geoff is great, dry sense of humour and welcoming every time. Ann and Meg are everywhere; chatty and smilingly perfect for the place. All three give the place it’s warm atmosphere and long may it continue. 4 stars as not enough decent ale choice - I get that it’s a tap for Calvors but they should stick to lager or make their second ale to contrast the other - or, here’s an idea, scrap some of the lager and make some cracking ales. There’s no competition in Needham for decent beer, so why not?

Recently moved to Needham Market. First objective..find a good pub!!Lucky, the Rampant Horse is very close. Nicely presented, bit worn where it should be. Local(Suffolk) craft ale is served at good prices. A Gordon's G & T, with Schweppes tonic less than £4!! I did not try the food and although I saw some served ( LQQLED) very nice, it seemed a little pricey.Upon my arrival I was served by a charming, friendly lady who happily put two slice of fresh lime with my G & T..thought they were a bit thin!On my second round I was served by an elderly gentleman, with waistcoat and who didn't even smile and was told the line was very adequate as it was!! As we live nearby, we thought we'd try this accessible pub for lunch. There were five of us, four adults and one nine year old child. They have their own car park with more parking in Station Yard. We all had different meals - fish, chips & peas, ham egg & chips, steak, tomatoes & potatoes, and children's meal of chicken nuggets ( I can't remember the other meal). All were good sized meals, cooked well and nicely presented. We also had desserts of raspberry cheesecake and lemon sorbet. The drinks we had were excellent. For the price, we couldn't ask for more. All the staff were very kind, helpful and cheerful. They did their best to give us exactly what we wanted - if they had it in the kitchen, they'd give it to us. The toilets were sparkling clean. I haven't given five stars because one of us felt there could have been more choices for those people who have food allergies/dietary problems. What was available, was extremely good. We would definitely eat there again and have no hesitation in recommending The Rampant Horse.

Came in late afternoon and were lucky enough to grab a roast before they all went. Beautiful beef, potatoes and extras. Would thoroughly recommend a visit. Menu looked lovely. Chef is doing a great job.

We and my wife went there yesterday evening, we looked at the menu and decided to try. My wife had lamb and i had spare ribs and chicken with fresh salad, we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and the service was excellent with being asked twice if everything was ok .We will go there again..

We have eaten here on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed, extremely friendly staff, reasonably priced and tasty food from a good sized menu with regular specials. Comfortable surroundings, lovely wood burner in the winter, what's not to like!

A group of us arrived to be greeted by a barman who was unwelcoming and uninterested. Beer smelled of vinegar and when we complained, barman told us that everyone else was happy with it. Should have stayed at the Swan across the road.

Sad to say after two successful visits the third was a disaster, the quantity of food served would not have been enough for a five year old let alone an adult. When complained was offered extra veg. Have never been served Belly pork as a slice (that you could almost see through). Will not be returning

Lovely lunch with Mum and my partner. The hand cooked chips were delicious. We will be back. The beer was top notch too.

Visited with my other half and our 3-year old on a cold rainy day. The lovely staff were very welcoming. Managed to get a table near the fire. The menu featured a good variety of food from fish and chips to a chicken thigh tagine which I went for. All of our food was delicious and had a home prepared and cooked feel, chips with skins on went down very well with the little one! Dessert was just as enjoyable and the bill was very reasonable. Will definitely return next time we have a walk at Needham Lake.

Had a lovely pit stop and food was lovely and coffee superb - only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because the floor where we sat had cake crumbs on it so I couldn't put my bag down

Average food. The bacon, Brie and cranberry panini needed more than 2 slices of Brie as was dry. The coleslaw was not homemade as stated on their menu. The kids meal came with hand cooked sharp crisps when ideally should have been puffs or a safer type of crisp. Would not pay £34 again for the food we got. Very disappointing. Very much squashed in like sardines too.
