The staff were great and helpful, the room was clean and nice and the bed was clean oaderless and comfortable. But most of all the room had a modern controlable and quiet air con unit.

I’ve been visiting The Ram for a number of years for food and drink, but never have I been greeted at the front door by ‘That’s not a parking space can you move your car to a designated space’ No hello, no friendly welcome, I’ve always parked in the same space each visit with no issue before (in-front of the patio, even has faded parking lines there) and had I not of been trying to have a nice lunch with my mum then I’d of walked straight back out. Suggest if parking is that much of an issue then they repaint the parking lines in the carpark and the barmaid gets some lessons in customer service. Food was ok, not convinced it was a ‘new menu’ as the barmaid suggested, looked much like the same menu from last year. Shame that the opening liner from a staff member when I wasn’t even through the front door was enough to ruin the entire lunch.

Need to up their game. We had a works do at the Ram on the 29th Jan 2020. I understand that this place has recently changed hands, and that it’s had a clean and spruce up. It’s a big venue, big car park out front and tables/decking to the front of the venue. All in good order. It is clean, and modern, has a pool table and a couple of big TVs either playing music or football. It’s large and spacious inside and has loads of comfortable seating. Toilets were clean, but there wasn’t any soap in there to wash your hands. (Toilets were bloody freezing too) Bar staff, in fact all staff are very friendly. But as you walk in, it’s bloody freezing (I guess if it isn’t busy you’d probably keep the heat down to save money, I can understand that), while we were there they did turn up the heat. But it just doesn’t have any atmosphere, which is a shame as it has so much going for it. The food menu is limited, but that’s not really a problem as I’m a fan of “keep it simple” My colleagues that had the burgers were proper pleased with their choices, they looked very good, large portions, plenty of chips and coleslaw. A couple of colleagues had the cold meat platter, and they looked bloody amazing, plenty of sliced meats, olives and pickles, bread and butter. And they were pleased with the choices. Another colleague had the Chicken Katsu curry, this looked and smelt amazing. A couple of us had steaks, and they were disappointing. None of the steaks on the menus had a “weight” specified, which when you’re offering these as a premium priced item on the menu, a weight should be quoted. I had the rump with blue cheese sauce. It came with chips, corn on the cob, onion rings and coleslaw. The chips were fine, but the onion rings and the chips covered the steak, which wasn’t that big. I asked for it to be cooked rare, and it was. But, it was small, quite tough, and had a fair bit of fat and gristle. And, the blue cheese sauce was strange, and didn’t really taste like blue cheese at all. It was just disappointing. Apart from the steak, the rest of the meal wasn’t bad, and the portion size was pretty good, I was full after I finished. Another colleague who also had a steak wasn’t impressed, his words “one of the worst meals he’d ever had” The guy serving was really friendly efficient. I really think this place has so much going for it. But they need to up their game on the food and have a consistent and better quality offering, especially for premium items like steaks. It would have been nice to see Gammon, egg and chips on the menu also, another easy and hard to mess up item. It’s a big place and could easily be used as a local venue for music or a drag act or something like that. Anyways, wasn’t bad judging by the meal I had, but could have been loads better. Give it a try... I’ll try it again!

Dined here on the off chance, for atmosphere at lunchtime the starkness does it no favours nor does being in the middle of roadworks. But, the food quality from the very limited lunch menu is excellent and the portions generous. If the atmosphere was better this would be highly recommende.

My staff and I had our work Christmas meal here tonight. I’ve been to the Ram before but not for food but I definitely wouldn’t bother again. Not only was the food not great quality but the service was awful. Apart from one member of staff, Catherine, who was great, it was not good at all. They asked me at the start of the meal if I would like to set up a tab, I said yes as I wanted to pay it all. Then halfway through the night they were harassing us to pay off part of the bill as “they’ve had people do a runner before”. If those people were three women all over 35 with full drinks that they were enjoying in full view fair enough but maybe if they can’t trust anyone with a tab don’t offer one? I paid up and left and certainly wouldn’t go back there for a meal again, feeling very insulted.

After a 4 hour drive I broke my journey at The Ram. I’d had a couple of family dinners there in recent years and whilst the food always took its time to come, it was decent quality. After ordering a Philly steak sandwich, I waited 40 minutes for a meat monstrosity between 2 pieces of toasted white bread to be delivered with nachos on the side. It’s hard to describe the meat, it certainly wasn’t a steak, or anything that could be seen to resemble a steak, more like a butchered rump steak smothered in some indescribable cheese with a smattering of raw red onions. With lumps or gristle throughout, it was inedible. The chef had literally murdered the Philly Steak Sandwich concept...horrible.

The Ram is very average, if that. Having lived in the area for a while it's undergone many changes, all promising better things ahead... The beer garden is in a state of decline, with the children's play area shrinking. It's okay for a few drinks... if you don't want to leave Tidworth... but the prices are not great. The food is dire and overpriced. I've tried it a few times and I've not had a single good experience yet... but i know others who rate it! But hey, guess it's all a matter of taste. Usually busy on the weekend evenings with married soldiers looking for some lovely lass to take back to camp!

We popped into The Ram, which is local to us for a spot of lunch. Had heard so many good reviews we had to check it out for ourselves. We were not disappointed although we did not need to have a starter each (maybe one between the 3 of us as they were rather large but tasty). We all had different dishes. The children's meal was eaten up in a heartbeat, my husbands was tasty although he struggled to eat it following his starter and mine which was the hunters chicken was delicious. I had one very small issue with it (that was more me than the chef) and it was taken away immediately and replaced in its entirety, despite having eaten some of it.Seems it was just a pub when the Landlords took it over, they have turned the place around to be a very successful and enjoyable place to meet and eat. Very friendly and despite being very busy everything ran smoothly with no delays.

I have previously written a review for The Ram that was not at all good, however it has changed ownership and am happy to give readers an update...so here goes:Attended on Wednesday afternoon as part of a party of around 90 people for works Christmas lunch. In short, what an amazing turn around! Friendly, accomadating staff, cheerful and nothing too much trouble for them at all. The food was very good, particularly as there was so many of us to serve. Portion sizes were decent too, perhaps if I were being picky....could have had more veg with the main, which they said they'd put out, but in the end we told them not to bother. The food was hot, delicous and apart from the veg were plentiful. I had the cheeseboard to finish and it was really lovely, came complete with butter (lots don't and I have to ask for that as an extra), great selection of tasty cheeses and plenty of crackers, chutney and celery etc. Big change in the decor and the cleanliness as well....last time we went over 2 years ago, the cutlery was dirty, whole place felt dirty and the paint was peeling off the walls. Huge compliments to the chef and staff for Wednesday - well deserved praise and an amazing change for the better - thank you!!

When no veg arrived and it was asked for, a member of staff was very opologetic and returned a few minutes later with a small bowl of carrots(?!). Soft drinks were all 1cm short of a full pint. On approach it still looked the same from the outside but on entering could see that lots of work had been done. Arrived on a sunny warm afternoon and decided to have lunch in the restaurant rather than the garden (for fear of being bombarded by flies & wasps). We were the only 2 in the restaurant so really had a pick of what table we wanted. Waitress was really nice and friendly, took our drinks order whilst we pondered over what to eat. This is a very popular venue with many families and although we'd been here many years ago and didn't like it, we thought we'd give it another try, since it had changed ownership. On first entering, it definitely appears brighter and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We went for an evening meal and were shown through the back to the dining room, which at the time was empty apart from us. We ordered our food and whilst waiting I couldn't help notice the very poor state of decor, peeling paint, filthy windows, I may be a fuss-pot in some people's eyes, but I felt it was really seedy...the cutlery was even dirty. To be fair, the food was simple pub grub..if I remember correctly I had a burger and chips, which, although unremarkable, was edible and not hideous in any way. I'm sorry, hate to post bad reviews, if you like the type of place that you go into and think that there should be spittoons at each end of the bar and sawdust on the floor...then maybe you'll love it, but it really wasn't for us and I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends. I must say however that the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful and it was obvious that they were "bending over backwards" to successfully attract customers.....it wasn't their fault, just the state of the place really.

I had booked a group of 16 'older' people for a pre- Christmas meal. From booking it to settling the bill, the staff could not have been more helpful. The meals were served hot and efficiently and were absolutely delicious. The accompanying vegetables were plentiful and perfectly cooked, the desserts were also well received. It was very much appreciated that we could order drinks at the table and the young staff were so helpful.

What a great place. Food and service was simply amazing. I fancied some sizzling chicken fajitas but what I got exceeded my expectations. The portions were incredible, first I had my plate with the tortilla wraps and salad, then a pot of gourmet chips, then onion rings, then a generous serving of the sizzling chicken with onions and peppers then the dips and sauces. For £8.95 it was excellent value for money. Will be coming back for sure. Might even attempt the mad meaty Thursday challenge :)

Went today with a group , had such a fantastic choice for different dietary requirements and vegetarians . I complimented to the lady behind the bar how marvellous it was that there was such a choice as I am a vegetarian She obviously know exactly what she was talking about and was such a food lover . I ate the vegetarian wraps and took home what I couldn't eat as the waitress kindly put my leftover lunch in a container for me to eat later. What a beautiful restaurant we sat in and so warm . We where so pleased our group have book for A Christmas party where again the vegetarian choice has been thought about and I am pleased I have lots of choices not just the usual one choice . Keep up the good work who ever is thinking about such lovely menus .

I really like the food and service in the Ram. I don't know what it like before the new people took it over but its good now. They use fresh vegetables, the meat is lean and there's lots of it, the staff are friendly and accommodating. For me it's the best in the area and I prefer it to Toby Carvery because the Toby stuff is salty, the meats fatty and the spuds are dry. I can add my own salt at the table if needed. I give the Ram 5 stars but what do I know? I always eat only proper food, frozen veg like what they serve in the Ludgershall Queens and other nearby food outlets just doesn't do it for me so who ever you are Ram landlords, land ladies whatever its a good value quality meal.

The food here is always good, not yet been disappointed with the size, price and quality. However this pub has a very child friendly garden which is lovely to sit in and have food when the sun is out. The only reason I have rated this down from a 5 star is because the female toilets needs some serious tlc.

I wasn't going to write a review for this visit as a member of the family had already done so, however I always make an effort when the establishment have also reciprocated. On asking what they could offer me as a gluten free option they couldn't have been more helpful. As I only wanted a smallish lunch I opted for a ploughman's offered with chips rather than bread. Well the ploughman in Wilts must be small giants as the portion was huge and I even took a large slab of cheese home. The meal was served quickly looked appetising and fresh. My pot of tea was served with a gluten free millionaire's shortbread as 'I couldn't have the normal' biscuit. The landlady and young man who served us were extremely helpful and after reading the previous negative comments about food and service I'm very surprised. We were all very happy. No complaints here. We will visit again.

just went in hoping for a good night with friends as I was visiting. This is the only pub open till late at weekends in tidworth and I don't even know how they keep their licence. The staff behind the bar are ignorant and rude and the beer tastes like the pipes have never been cleaned. Went the following day for a meal before leaving and my plate was wet with grease, even found a hair in my food. Never Again! This place had many good reviews what happened?

This was a special occasion for my wife and I. Waiter took my order for my wife's and my meal, only to return ten minutes later to inform me that they did not have the Steak and Ale Meal that I ordered. I decided to have the Pulled Belly Pork meal in place of. My wife ordered a Salmon Steak Meal, only after ten minutes the waiter returned again to inform us that they were out of the Salmon Steak meal, she ordered an alternative Salmon meal, the waiter returned again, only to tell us (Guess)?, they were out of this meal also. This is on a Saturday evening! In the end she had to settle for a chicken and bacon burger meal, which was not really to her liking. My "alternative" meal of the belly pork turned out to be nothing more than strips of thick fat resembling rubber, with watery mashed potato resembling wallpaper paste, in weak runny gravy with a spoonful of peas. I will add though, that the management reduced the bill by not charging for my wife's meal, but still took £23.15.Not good enough! This was on a Saturday evening where restaurant's are at their busiest. I wish I had just gone to the chippy for what we experienced here.....I give the Ram one star only because we could park easily in their car park (I now know why). Never ever again!

My husband and I went here for a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We both had steak which I have to say was the nicest steak I have had for a long time. The meal was presented beautifully and was piping hot. The restaurant itself has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the service was of a good standard. I would highly recommend this place as great value for money.

The ram 3 years ago was a dive!! Holes in benches, mingling toilets didn't even Serve food, blah blah blah. Now, it's a lovey place. Very nice to go for a meal, food is cooked well, service is good, good atmosphere, you can choose wether to sit in the pub or back room(well I did anyway). The food is cooked to order so no overcooked eggs or stale beans etc. it's a lovey shade of pastel green (I think) I've been for a few on a night out and it's fairly busy compared to what it was. I wouldn't hesitate on bringing family (inc young children) out for dinner here.

Starters still frozen and mains steak was asked to be well done but was still running with blood in it, also asked for small chips and salad, as we don't like wasting food, but got enough for at least four people, won't be back, will stick to the boot. You need to change your chef. And still charged full price after complaining. Don't expect a reply from this.

I recently re-visited the RAM after 40 years. The outside remains the same, quiet reassuring well and agreat make over inside. Light, bright and nice decor. Food was a surprise, excellently presented on large woooden boards, very large portions, no doubt to accommodate the many young clients and family, in this now large and extended army garrison. Prices were very reasonable and the staff extremely friendlyand helpful. A wonderful step back to my days stationed in the garrison many years ago and good luck to the RAM management and staff for the next 40 years, great place and thanks.

If your looking for s quiet pint and a relaxing chat with friends don't go here with all the army youngsters trying to "impress" everything with a pulse it makes for an awkward and frankly horrible time however...It looks and feels like a nice pub so maybe it's just the clientele. So as I said depends what your looking for.

Myself and my two sisters have kept saying we must eat here as the reviews are so good. I can now vouch that the quality and quantity would be hard to surpass. I had the jack Daniels spare ribs ( about 8 huge meaty ones) and you get a choice of chips or salad. I was actually asked if I would like both. I had a side order of onion rings which were also huge and obviously home made and the peas tasted totally straight from the garden. They need to rename the ribs dinosaur ribs as I could only manage four but I was very pleased when I was asked if I wanted to take the rest home. Believe me they were too good to leave and they were put in a container. Service was excellent and we will certainly be back and spread the word to all my friends

With roads closed or completely impassable due to the severe rain from Storm Bert, we finally gave up trying to get home late on Sunday evening and parked up in the car park of the Bolingbroke. Too worried to go any further, we nervously knocked on the door, despite the pub being officially closed, and to our relief was invited in and offered a room for the night. Jo and Rob looked after us all evening, the room was clean and perfect for the emergency overnight stay and even made us breakfast before we set off in the morning. I can thank you both enough for your hospitality and kindness in what was, quite literally, an incredibly stressful occasion. Would recommend to anyone and even planning a return trip, under better conditions, to come back and say thank you once again. Wonderful. Ray and Marion

The website states it’s open until 4pm, it doesn’t say the kitchen closed at 2:30pm. We were happy to have cold quiches but the waitress made us feel so unwelcome even though we spent £46. She then cleaned the table implying we should leave, so we did and we won’t be coming back!

We visited on a Sunday for breakfast. Arriving a couple of minutes after 10am (opening time), we queued for a table and then again to order food. There were plenty of tables but appreciated it was busy - not all tables were full. We waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive, although coffee arrived much earlier. This was prompted by us asking where our food was/checking the order had been made, to which we were told ‘we’d just have to wait because it was busy’. The food arrived 5 minutes later. The food was tasty and we’ve no complaints about the quality or price. But, something about the system here just doesn’t make sense, queuing at every point and then waiting another 50 minutes for scrambled eggs on toast and a bacon sandwich, doesn’t make sense. We arrived at 10 and didn’t leave until 12:15…. People had started arriving for lunch! Sadly, we’d not return. There are just other places nearby that are doing it better.

We visited with family from France with dog who were looking forward to visiting for coffee and a light snack for lunch,we arrived on a dry bright Sunday lunch, although relatively busy, there were several tables empty, albeit full of dirty leftovers, when we pointed this out to the lovely girl behind d counter she promptly cleared table and wiped, from this point expectations fell away quickly, there was absolutely nothing to eat except carrot cake or muffins fresh or pre packed biscuits and flapjack ! We mentioned this to the counter staff who just said sorry were short staffed and low on food, there were 8 members of staff behind the counter ! Oh well, we ordered coffee which hit the spot first round fine, second round incorrect, then members of our party wished to visit the loo before leaving, a queue of several people waiting constantly to use 1 toilet that was disgustingly dirty from top to bottom ! All in all a poor experience of what some 18 months ago was a lovely place to visit, maybe it was just an Off day, but to have that many staff not doing a lot or cared a lot, not sure I would be in a hurry to revisit
