Have passed this restaurant many times .. tried for the first time on Tuesday .. food staff ambience amazing

Best Indian in Billericay & Basildon. The service to second to none and the food is fresh and tasty, the price is great too. I would 100% recommend this place

A freezing cold night and this place was full to capacity - first time here so this was an encouraging sign. We hadn’t booked and got lucky that a table was just being vacated. It was cleared and we were seated quickly. Considering how busy it was, table service was prompt and starters (popadoms/pickles) arrived quickly - and were fresh and tasty. The mains were the most right sized portions I think I’ve had at a curry house - usually a piece too much/little chicken, sauce and rice, but I finished the plate(s) and felt comfortably full. Would recommend and will be returning.

Just had the best curry o have ever eaten. Chicken tikka masala, madras hot with extra green chilli, keama rice and meat samosa. I've always rate the raj but that meal was the best yet!!

Odd little place but good food and service.

Have been to this restaurant many times (usually on a Sunday when they have their offers) The service is always efficient and staff are so polite. Food is great! I have been here multiple times and never had a bad dish - I recommend the Raj Special Masala

I don’t normally write reviews but we thought we’d try the high street rather than driving to maldon for our Indian, it’s quite dark in there and the walls need a paint the warmers were rusty their trolly was full of mess under the food? The food was very salty infact that’s all I could taste. Nothing to write home about, we wouldn’t return.. saying that it was packed in there?

Me and my parents just eaten here on a Monday evening. I rarely write reviews, but I can honestly say this was the best Indian meal I have had in years, lamb was super tender and the services was second to none. Well done 👍

Ordered take out lamb madras and it was so salty that I couldn’t eat it, prawn curry tasted funny like it had been cooked the day before totally disappointing

Ordered a collection a lamb madras and there was so much salt in you couldn’t taste the curry so disappointed, rice not great, prawn curry over cooked won’t be going back

So much oil in the dishes it put us off the food and the oil leaked through the bags it was every where! (takeaway order)

We were there last night 11 of us The service was poor after an hour they wanted us out as other people were waiting totally unacceptable We will never return there anymore

Food was OK but onion bhaji was well over cooked. Restaurant was full of cooking smoke from the kitchen. My clothes stink now. You could see it in the lights.

First visit and really enjoyed the food. 2 of us went for the £15 three course offer. Starter, main, side and sundries for that value is excellent. You'll have to pay the extra for a lot of the dishes, especially chef specialities, but it's still great value. Service was a little slow, but I think we were being delayed by a big group order ahead. The restaurant was busy and had a pleasant atmosphere, a little loud for conversation at times. Overall the food was the highlight, excellent curry and great value for money. Restaurant needs a little TLC here and there, but I shall be back again!

Had a table booked for 8pm for 12 people. We Arrived at 8 to be told to wait 15 minutes. We understood and waited for our table to be ready. At 8:15 we asked when it would be ready to be told a table is just finishing. When looking over they had just been given menus. we received a round of drinks after complaining that we had been left to just wait. After 45 minutes we still was just left to one side and as you can imagine we was getting more and more frustrated. To then be sat on a 8 seater table so 4 of our party could not even be sat. We ended up walking out due to them constantly lying when it turns out that the staff sat people on our table at 7:30 just so they can get more money. They didn’t apologise and was very unhelpful don’t recommend booking the raj joke of staff.

Worst Indian ever. Booked for my friends birthday 8pm and they had no tables. Did not care and was not bothered. Do not waste your time going

Great spot, went on a Friday night, restaurant was buzzing, the staff are all very friendly and the food was top notch, plus there is a massive car park that's free after 6pm

Had a great dinner here it was quiet but a wednesday night great service and very good food with a very good selection of food on the menu.

Had a very pleasant evening at the Raj, service was very attentive and quick, as soon as we were seated we we offered drinks and popadoms and and shortly after our order was taken. Food arrived promptly, was piping hot and tasted delicious. Only grip was the closeness of the tables, we were enjoining our evening until a table of four were seated next to us and it kind of killed our evening as their conversation drowned out ours, tables need to be spaced further apart… Overall it’s a great restaurant.

Fabulous meal in this warm, cosy, prettily decorated restaurant! Such tasty food, I had tandoori chicken starter and Kuko Coco Paka (such a cute name). There was plenty of it and it was piping hot and scrumptious!! Excellent service too can't wait to return!

We went to The Raj last night to celebrate our son’s birthday. We were a group of 13 and the food and service was excellent. Many thanks to all staff for helping to make the evening so enjoyable. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. Everything arrived on time and was great.

I’ve eaten in & had a take away this month & both, as always, were delicious! The flavour of every dish is distinct which I don’t always find is the case with Indian restaurant food. Our favourites are chicken shashlik, tikka biryani, passanda & madras. The peshwari naan is light, fluffy & mouth watering. We always find the service friendly & attentive. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Well having been been to the raj some four years ago,vowing never to return,due to miserable staff,food that had been frozen or rather defrosted by microwave,it was only a chicken tikka masala not a difficult meal,it was awful,the sauce was thick as is usual when defrosted,the chicken was hard to find then having to be served by a miserable moustached guy,who cleary has become a celeb for his lethargy, glad we never went back as things have not changed, still remember that awful place.

Honestly the worst Indian restaurant I have ever eaten in my life the staffs attitude was unacceptable gave us our mains before our starter finished and told us if we want it it hot to take it and eat it now I asked for some cutlery and he kept saying yes I will bring it now and never got it and I wouldn’t even go there with the quality of food was absolutely disgusting

I really hope its because it was a busy night with it being valentine's and we ordered a takeaway but this is genuinely the worst Indian cuisine we have ever had but also the most expensive. Thankfully, I paid in cash for the discount, otherwise would have paid over £50 for not very good food. The rice was flavourless - both coconut and pilau. How can you have flavourless coconut rice? My prawn puri was ok. Nothing to write home about. Lacked flavour but ok. My prawn curry was swimming in so much oil it sploshed on and stained my white counter tops. Not many prawns. Too much sauce and again no flavour. Salt was lacking across the board. Despite reading back the order three times my partner ended up with mushrooms instead of Bombay potatoes. I like mushrooms but these again were flavourless. My saag bhaji was oily. Butter chicken was just ok. There is nothing worse than calorific food that tastes bad. Way too expensive for what it was. After eating from two of the best Indian restaurants in Stoke Newington - Royal India and Tiffin Box, I've been disappointed by the offering in Billericay so far. On the basis of this experience I'll be avoiding takeaway unless its fish and chips. Positives: The staff were friendly and I was given a rose upon pick up. Poppadoms were lovely. Rather luminous green (yogurt?) sauce, I couldn't quite make out was ok. Basic raita would have sufficed. The peshwari naan was also good - sadly the best part of the meal for me. My son liked his Mutter Paneer. Peas were substituted for chick peas.

The service is always spot on at The Raj. Very attentive and informative staff help you get what you want, and the service is always fast. There's nothing worse than waiting around for your food! The food itself is flavoursome, piping hot, tasty, and the portion size is generous. Fantastic selection of dishes to suit everyones taste buds, from mild to incredibly spicy and everything in between. There is also a good selection of beers, wines, and spirits to help wet the pallette. The atmosphere is always lively, and the restaurant is almost always very busy during the evenings. Parking is literally on the doorstep and with The Raj being situated right near the middle of the High Street, you can even choose to continue the night at a pub, bar or club afterwards. I have visited this restaurant many times, with a group of friends, or just me and the wife. Will happily return.

Family night out, couple with three kids 12,10,8. Good service and pretty good food, usual standard Indian food menu. Kids lived ice cream deserts. We ate at 6:00 on a Saturday and was quiet, by 7:30 was full. Big car park right next to it, free after 6:00.

We've seen this place a few times but never entered. We finally did and glad we had and wonder why we didn't go sooner. The food was simply amazing and what you'd expect. Lots of choice. Lots of flavours. Great service and all great value. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will certainly return. Do book up. The place soon filled up and it is no surprise. It's a great little place.

Reasonably priced and tasty food. Our group of 4 all enjoyed their food and commented on how nice it was. If you're driving its easy to park and there is a large carpark at the back.

Food passable but very unremarkable, service disinterested, wine list laughable. Very expensive for what we consumed (£70 for 2…starter, main, 2 beers and 2 cokes)…sums up the extremely average restaurant offerings in Billericay. Eating out deserves to be so much better than this, generous 2 stars

Arrived having BOOKED a table, only to be LIED to, having been told “we tried to call you” with NO EVIDENCE of being done so. Just tell the truth.

Booked a table for 7:30 on a Saturday evening. Waited until 8pm for a free table. Then waited until 9pm before the food arrived. Staff very polite and food okay but eat early or late otherwise you will wait.

Our regular Indian Restaurant but our first visit since Covid. We wasn’t disappointed we felt safe and the staff were very caring . Plastic over table clothes so easy to sanitise all staff were wearing masks and were cleaning down all chairs when people left...

Brilliant food at a good cost and the waiters were very friendly. The building is very clean.

My friends and I hadn’t been out for a meal together for over 3 months. After a couple of beers in The Chequers, we all went to The Raj. We were made to feel very welcome from the first moment we walked through the door. Everyone commented how good the food was and the generous size of the dishes. It was a fantastic touch when the owner thanked us for visiting so soon after COVID-19. We are planning to return very soon. I wouldn’t eat a curry anywhere else in Billericay.

First time I have eaten here. The staff are very friendly and courteous. I had reshmi kebab followed by lamb dansak. Both meals were very tasty and enjoyable. I would recommend this restaurant. Food was good and the restaurant is very clean and tidy.
