Indian Ruchi in Basildon

Ruchi has always been our go to for both eat in and take away. Last night we had delivery and it was awful. Chicken was dry and sauce tasteless. The lamb dish was so fatty and gristly that we couldn’t eat it. All in all very disappointing.

Had a take away from here for the first time and have to say very disappointed, the food was cold, I had approximately 3 pieces of chicken in a whole curry and it tasted nothing like a madras, was more of a bbq flavour. Wouldn't return.

Lovely little restaurant with lovely people serving. Wouldn't recommend for a large group as we were. As other diners didn't appreciate the loudness that comes with a celebration group of thirty.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Billericay

We had a delicious lunchtime meal at The Red Lion. A lovely old pub with lots of atmosphere. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Nice enough atmosphere and staff but the food was disappointing. The lamb was stringy and tough, everything else flavourless. And not cheap either. I can’t begin to say how much better the food from the Bayleaf takeaway is.

This place never fails to impress. Consistently high standards of service and always excellent food. This isn't just the best curry house in Billericay - it's the best restaurant in Billericay. Can't recommend any more highly.

Food was pretty good. However make sure you get a receipt when you pay.

We live in France and do not get much chance to order a UK Indian. We ordered almost half the menu. Loved all we had. Everything had unique taste! Very, very happy. Delivery was within 45 minutes.

We had a curry delivered to our care home today, and the residents and staff were so pleased with the quality. Very tasty curry, really enjoyable. We will definitely order again!

Went for a curry after a few drinks last week. Restaurant looks tired and shabby. Beer was barely cold and fairly flat. Food was average. When it came to paying the bill we got spun the line about there being an issue with their bank so could only accept cash. #TaxDodge It was a lazy choice, now regretted.

the restaurant is bright , modern and spotlessly clean. -- the menu has all the regular favourite dishes plus some interesting items that are well described and unique to them.i we chose a couple of their specialities , the portions were generous ,and deliciously different and we will most definitely return

I've used this restaurant many times and sadly nowadays I can only use then for takeaways. Nevertheless the food is as excellent as ever. Its great to see their standards haven't dropped. This is now our weekly Indian treat. The food is superb and the waiters are so efficient and friendly. The best in billericay. And the cobra just hits the spot always !!

They tried to charge us for four set menus when we were only a party of three (and the only table in the restaurant in a Sunday evening so not even the excuse of it being busy!) waiter checked his mobile whilst taking our order and couldn’t be more abrupt if she tried. Food OK nothing special.

One of the other reviews says not the worst Indian restaurant, but not the best either and that characterises Ruchi perfectly. Food is okay service is alright. If you want to use one of the vouchers you can get online they prefer you to pay cash. I have eaten here a number of times and would quite happily go back.... just not premier league. Bombay potatoes here are legendary though....

When asked for a recommendation, this was always my place of choice but never again. Indifferent staff, sneezing into hands and not washing them. Awful service, treated like we were an inconvenience. Tried several times to get waiters attention, for glasses,drinks, even plates! and only three tables were occupied. Chewy tough lamb most of which was left, we brought it to their attention, it was met with a shrug and still on the bill. It was a regular for friends meal but won’t be going back.

Food was nice.......but noise from next door ......spoilt the meal...at 9pm? Music was boom boom boom not acceptable....... You can't come here as a couple as it would screw your night up.... Come on.... Deal with it management..

It was all an all right meal. Wasn't the best Indian meal that I have ever had however certainly was not the worst. Middle of the road. Nice and clean inside. No complaints. Would go back.

I went to visit with my wife, on Valentine’s Day, while I was having chicken korai, and my wife order chicken saslick, food was so delicious, value for the money, we would love to go back again : staff was so friendly -)

Tried this place around Christmas time and we love our Indian food, and it has to be good quality. Checked the reviews before we went and thought all sounded good. Decor was quite plain and there wasn’t any music so the other table occupied near us was quite noisy. The food was quite bland and uninteresting to be honest. Hubby used the toilet and said the floor leading from the restaurant through to the back where the toilet is was filthy. This made me feel a bit uncomfortable and the staff were very disinterested and staring out the window most of the time. Had to make several attempts to get the bill as the staff went bothered and not even an after 8 mint with the bill lol. All in all id not return unfortunately.

We have a special deal because we have over 30 people attending. As a result the selections are more limited. However everyone said it was good value and I didn't hear any complaints. Service was a little slow, but they are dealing with a huge order, and we had a quiz to complete, so it didn't matter.

1st visit here last night but definitely not the last. Food was lovely and good sized portions. Staff attentive but not invading of privacy. Would highly recommend. Has 5* food rating on the door.

We’ve been avid fans of the ruchi for in excess of 11 years. When friends have disagreed with us about the best Indian restaurant on the high street we’ve stood by the fact that the ruchi over the years beats all others hands down. Service has always been impeccable and food was of excellent quality. This was until an experience we had last December when we visited the ruchi for a quick bite to eat. We didn’t notice anyone we knew serving us in the restaurant but thought nothing of it as perhaps they were away that day. We did notice a difference in the actual service but we weren’t too perplexed about this as we knew we could always rely on the quality of food provided.

Delicious Indian food, lots of different curries incl. the Naga chili one. Place is cozy. The waiter was maybe not the most enthusiastic about our presence and the table cloths could do with a change, but overall a good experience.

Was a quiet night but staff were attentive and polite. Food was lovely and would recommend for a night out for two.

Just had an Indian takeaway, one prawn patia and one lamb patia and they were amazing. Really tasty and one of the best Indians we have had. We always collect and don’t use their delivery service. Really great food.

Service; Ordered a takeaway @7pm. Was given an ETA of 45 mins - no problem... 2hrs later, and 3 chasing phone calls, the food arrived, albeit cold! Felt like we did't matter every time we called, so rate service a 0

Just over a week ago at 8pm, a takeaway delivery driver from this restaurant drove up my shared driveway by mistake looking for a different address. He parked temporarily, knocked next door for directions and then reversed back to the road. The morning after, it was clear that the vehicle he used was leaking engine oil, as there were a number of oil spills over the tarmac driveway. I telephoned the restaurant and spoke to the manager who said he would speak to the driver and contact me the next day. He did not. I went to the restaurant and showed the manager photos of the damage and he again said he would speak to the driver and get back to me. He did not. Over a week has gone by and today I have again been to the restaurant and spoken to the manager. He denies all responsibility for the driver and the damage caused. The oil has now spread and will have to be properly cleaned at some cost. Draw your own conclusions about the honesty and behaviour of this company.

This was our 2nd visit to the Indian Ruchi. As last time the food was very good although this time the service was a little slow probably because there were 50 of us having a fund raiser for 2 of our number going on a mission to India next month. The waiters were very obliging.

Went to have a nice evening with my husband cause he really fancied curry... As soon as I walked in to a restaurant felt uncomfortable. The waiter was very unpleasant, seems like a woman hater, only making eye contact with my husband like I didn't excist... When delivering food - almost throwing plates on the table. I'm not gonna lie, the food was not bad but the whole experience wasn't nice at all. Ruined the whole evening...

People in this restaurant a racist against black people me and my family ware having a meal at this restaurant and a African Couple asked for a table the waiter said that the restaurant was closed it was only 8.30 pm when the couple left the waiter said he didn't Serve that type of people 😞

Went with friends for a pre-Christmas get together and it was a Thursday evening and so we opted for the set meal. Great value at £12.95 (I think) with a starter, main course, rice and side order. I went for the Chicken Pathia and it was fantastic - the chicken was moist and the sauce had the right sweet and sour consistency. I'll be back again.

6 of us went last week. Food was very good as usual but the service from the waiters was not as good as usual. We over ordered as we usually do and asked if we could have a “doggy bag” On getting home , only a small amount was bagged up.

I went here last week for a meeting and came away a bit disappointed.

Three of us arrived about 6.30 without booking and we were given a table in the window which was ok with us. As there were no other customers I said to my husband we have been put here to lure people in !! Sure enough by the time we left it was very busy and listening as they came in, not one had booked so maybe it worked. Food was nice but no serving spoons with food.

Having used the Ruchi for at least 4 takeaway meals delivered most months of the year. I went with 4 friends last Wednesday evening at 7.15pm for an evening meal. When we walked in there was a funny atmosphere. Only 3 tables occupied. We asked to be seated at an empty 6 seat round table. But were told the table was booked/reserved although there was no reserved note on the table? there were only 3 tables occupied after all??. We asked again and were told no the table is booked and we would have to sit at a round table for 4 with an extra chair??

I do not generally like to give negative reviews of a place as I think I might have experienced an "off day" but after seeing some of the glowing reviews I think I may have gone to a different Indian Ruchi

Añadido a que el frente de la casa estaba de mal humor y displicente. Sin duda nunca volveré y ciertamente no lo recomiendo.

I visited this restaurant last weekend with friends. Having eaten some really delicious curries in Indian restaurants both in the UKand also abroad, I felt this Restaurant gave Indian food a bad name. The head waiter was grumpy and unwelcoming and didn't appear to want to be serving, however the two younger waiters were more cheerful and made up for his lack of friendliness. The beer was good however I became concerned when the dips to go with the pompadoms arrived looking as if lthey had just been poured out of large bought in jars of sauce from the local cash and carry, and from there on the meal deteriorated. The chicken 'curry' I ordered came in a bowl of thick sweet sickly pink non descript flavoured sauce, very similar looking to everyone else's at the table who had ordered differrent curries, once again 'out of a jar' from the local C&C sprang to mind. The coconut rice was fine but the order of fried rice was very oily. We did not bother to wait to find out what horror desert would be. I was saddened the next morning when our friends who had taken us to this restaurant apologised for such a bad meal explaining they had not been there before and the restaurant they had intended to take us to had been fully booked.

The food here was amazing. Top curry. Only thing that could have been better was the waiter but not enough to mark it down. Would recommend, Best in Billericay.

We traveled from London to this Indian on the recommendation of Alfie our Uber driver and the food was amazing the chicken chat and king prawn char were tasty and well spiced and the mains were cooked perfectly , the nan breads were good , over all top notch Indian

Booked a table for 6, for 2-30 .Decor all looking clean and spotless, waiters were very friendly and helpful, food was cooked perfectly, very tasty and plentiful. The only down side- I ordered a pint of bitter, which was a can of John Smith's £1 a tin (440ml)& charge £4

Went on bonfire night with 3 adults and a 7&8 yr old. Had 4 starters and 3 main dishes, 2 naans and 2 rice, with drinks for just over £70 which we thought was v. good value for money. All the food was really nice and fresh and would definitely go back there.

Went last night, wasn't too sure what to expect!,needn't have worried, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was great, the act was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful, by the end of the night it was just one big party atmosphere, 10/10.

Loved this restaurant. They made my dads birthday special. We will be back again. We were all full up with quality food, pipping hot and lovely flavours. One of the best in Essex in my opinion.

We have eaten this type of food for over 40 years and we have never had better; the food is superb by any standards. Do watch them if you are using Tastecard though, they will try that old "Only one tastecard per table" con, and you know it is one tastecard per couple. Be firm and they will capitulate.

We've lived in Billericay for many years and have tried most, if not all, of it's restaurants. Indian Ruchi has seen favour and indifference over the years but is currently dishing up really good, flavoursome curry. We visit regularly and have enjoyed their food each time. If you have any issues, talk to them, they will sort it out...

If you fancy a curry in Billericay then you must try the Ruchi. Friendly staff , nice restaurant and quality food with some great flavours. The six of us had no problems and the waiters were really attentive. Couple of us tried the chef specials which were great.

Ate again at the Ruchi on saturday, service and food was excellent. The King Prawn Badam Passanda and Chicken Sashlic were cooked to perfection.

I'll never write a restaurant off on the basis of one visit as I appreciate that everyone has bad days. I've had food from Indian Ruchi a few times, both take-away and in the restaurant. On the first occasion I was with a group of friends, none of whom believed me when I said that my chicken madras tasted like diesel. Until the tried it that is! Thinking that could have been their off day I dined in the next time and whilst the food wasn't as bad as the diesel madras it certainly wasn't particularly good. Strange tasting curry and very oily. watery tarka dal. Service was OK and the restaurant itself is fine but on the basis of the food I certainly won't go back.

Lovely food, lovely service. If you want a curry come here! Go for the chefs special if you want a surprise.

What can I say, one of the best, if not the best Indian restaurant in Essex, I have experienced some eating at different Indian restaurants, but this one is ahead by miles, friendly, good service, they know you the second time you visit, and the food the best I tasted in a long time, and the good thing is that there is consistency, every time is the same or better. Highly recommended.

We had a family dinner consisting of the usual mild and hot curries. All the starters, salads and side dishes. All were tasty and good portion sizes. Servic was friendly and quick. Highly recommended.
