What!!! Never been here in my life.

Very friendly, food was nice. Recommended

Food good value for money but nothing different on the menu. It's now been changed to a sports pub which is good for the area as they are putting together pool and darts teams. Can be very noisy when the men are using the bar.

New owners designed it as a 'sports bar 'and it works well as such,but being open plan having a meal you have to put up with the continuous loud music,food and drink reasonably priced and I wish them well in their venture

Worst food ever family and me was sick and had food poisoning for 2 days never go there

Had to wait so long for our meals but thought that at least that meant they were foung to be cooked from scratch and fresh. Had Hunters chicken. It was supposed to have cheese and bacon on top of the chicken. The piece of chicken was absolutely the tinest piece of chicken you've ever seen and it was cremated with no bacon and 6 shavings of cheese on the top. My friend had gammon and it was so tough it was hard to cut and chew it. Asked for a cup of coffee £4 for a cold cup of coffee. Again a long wait, they said they were having trouble with the coffee machine. Staff totally disorganised.i could go on but my main message is t9 AVOID this place at all costs. New management don't seem to be coping and they don't seem to have a competent chef.

All in all, positive experience! Food was really good but bigger portions would be welcomed. Service was a little shy of good but understandable given a massive party booking and being seemingly understaffed. Lowest score for me was the atmosphere, it’s like it’s somewhere between a pub and a nice restaurant so music and/or TV’s on would get that score up for me!

Meal for 5 tonight all meals outstanding

Went for the Curry night menu (Wednesdays). Our party had different curries and each one was absolutely stunning, the flavours were unbelievable and the meat was cooked to perfection...so much nicer than the last few meals weve had from local indian restaurants!! Curry deal included curry, rice, chips, naan and pint...for £13!!!! We also ordered sides of onion bhajis which were outstanding! We can't wait to visit again!!

What a lovely place! There’s a wonderful, friendly atmosphere, and the staff seem happy to be there (always a good indicator). We went there on a Friday and there was a great mix of groups; families, couples, work friends etc. The room is large, open and airy, with a clean, calming decor and smelled of freshly cooked meals, not like old beer which some places that have a bar can do. That brings me to the food. My daughter and son-in-law recommended the Railway to us, and they’re quite discerning when it comes to good food, so I knew to expect something of a higher standard. Both my husband and I like to ‘test’ anywhere we visit for the first time by how they cook a steak (our favourite); my husband likes medium rare, I prefer blue, and I can honestly say we were both extremely impressed. Each steak was cooked perfectly and melted like butter when eaten. In fact, it’s all I’ve thought about since; absolutely delicious! It eventually came time to leave, which I was reluctant to do as I’d had such a great time there, and to pay the bill. I could not believe how inexpensive our meal was; 4 drinks, 2 entrée, 2 mains and 1 dessert came to a little more than 65 quid. We’ve paid twice that elsewhere and only been 1/2 as impressed. We have found our new favourite restaurant, and don’t care that it’s a 40 minute drive away, even with the crazy price of fuel lately. The Railway Tavern is worth it!

Our first time visiting since being taken over by new management. I've eaten at The Castle (sister restaurant/bar) and enjoyed it so thought we'd try here. I'd reserved a table via Facebook nine days prior but when we arrived the booking hadn't been communicated. The kitchen had been cleaned and staff were waiting for two tables to finish up. I explained it was my friend's birthday and that we'd struggle as a group of five to get a table anywhere else at such short notice. From this point on, the young man at the bar (I later learned was also the chef) bent over backwards to ensure our night wasn't ruined. After trying to get us a table at The Castle who couldn't accommodate us, he decided to 'fire the kitchen back up' much to our delight. Between us we had garlic chicken which was cooked to perfection on a bed of roast potatoes and the tastiest creamy mushroom garlic sauce ever, steak pie which my friend claims was the best she'd ever eaten, a mixed grill and belly pork. Everything was delicious. What could have been a disaster was rectified in the most professional manner. The service and food were equally outstanding. I can't praise The Railway up enough and we will definitely be returning. The chef is a credit to the business.

Had 3 beef dinners today, food was burnt , no potatoes if it wasn’t for the beef it would have gone in the bin, even the gravy tasted burnt. Not easy to call to rectify the issues.

Loud bar rock music Massive portions of everything. Great fresh food cooked aldenti but shame everything barely warm, tepid. Roast were ok but served soggy almost seemed cooked day before, not crispy. £16.50 Sunday lunch main course extra £1.50 for cauliflower cheese which had a well cooked crumb top.

First time here since the new owners have taken over. Fabulous food and lovely pint of Madri. A artist was on in the bar and he was awesome. The Place was full, not overly, great atmosphere and friendly. We can't wait to return.

Waited a long time for our food, not much variety on the menu. There was only one thing that I would have ordered. There were no chips on the menu only fries and they were cold, not good if you don't like them like myself. There was NO beer on sale, very strange as it's a pub. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. My husband had a steak pie which he said was lovely however his fries were cold.

Pre booked a meal 3 weeks prior when arrived table wasn't ready. There was no soft drinks or ice availible so most of us had to have water (as we were driving) when seated was served by a young girl she went through our orders but 5 meals were missing so had to re order. Waited a further 40min before the chef came out to explain that he didn't have the stock there for the lasagne X2 so had to have the burger instead. Three times the orders came out wrong and had to be taken back the poor girl had the blame and left halfway through her shift (not her fault as the chef came out and checked the orders himself) .The serving of the food was all over the place with people in the group waiting for parts of there order. No cutlery set out and a large roll of kitchen paper was placed on the table to be used as napkins. Can't fault the food but wouldn't go back there again.

Best roast dinner you will ever taste! We are big fans of the food of its sister pub the castle, and the railway inn is up there with top quality food! We arrived just before 12pm this afternoon able to get a table for two without booking, which is a rare find on a Sunday. The food is out of this world, presented well, hot and mouth watering! Full of flavour! We both had the brisket which is highly recommended! A main course is priced at £16.50 and is worth every penny from the quality to the portion size 🐷 The place slightly lacks character for American BBQ , but is clean and friendly! This will now be our go to for a sunday roast.

Just dropped in for a drink. My lot think you need to get some Brewdog IPA . It's lovely to see the pub back open.

Myself and two friends visited here for a birthday meal and all really enjoyed. To eat we ordered the steak and ale pie, the dirty dog hot dog and the sticky chicken burger. The meals was lovely especially the steak pie which could be cut with a spoon the beef was so tender. For drinks we two of us enjoyed pints of Madri. The other alternative largers was coors and staropramen. One of my friends wasn’t able to drink as she was driving so was a little bit disappointed to see there was no non alcoholic or low alcoholic options available. The restaurant area was fairly busy but staff didn’t seem to be rushed by this they was very nice and polite when we wasn’t ready to order and gave us a few more minutes and kept offering us drinks while we waited. The atmosphere was nice there was a little music on in the background but not to loud. Overall really enjoyed but a better non alcoholic drinks selection could be offered. Thank you for a lovely night and fabulous food.

Birthday meal for 10 people, order messed up, missing food off order when being served, run out of drinks behind the bar (no pepsi, no thatchers, no bottled cider) medium steaks come out served well done, racks of ribs overdone had to wrestle meat off bone. Not very good at all. Only good thing was that we were refunded for the bad meals on the order. Disappointing as was expecting better.

Great meeting place just for a drink or informal dinner. Reall nice welcome from manager Elan. Food great and great beer! Would recommend!

We called in at the Railway by chance this evening. We have enjoyed many superb Sunday lunches before but this evening menu was new to us. The selection was good and my companion chose a jalapeño veggie burger while I had the steak and caramelised onion pie. Both meals were very reasonably priced and were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and were impressed with the friendly and efficient service provided by the staff,

Most of the staff were polite but this one staff member well she had an awful attitude while bringing food out. I think it was their first day of serving food when I visited and this women was very rude to my friends and family because there was a big party of us. Food was cold when brought out.

We have always had a lovely meal here and that is why we booked to take our mum there for Mother’s Day. When it was closed and apparently had new owners, we emailed to check that Mothers Day bookings would be honoured and were told they would. 10pm tonight we are emailed to be told that they will not be open in time for Mothers Day! Very disappointed and of course all the decent places are now fully booked. I truly hope this is not a sign of things to come under the new ownership

Fantastic from start to finish, probably one of the best Sunday dinners I have had for a long time. Fantastic food and an wonderful service from the team. I've just moved to the area and can't wait to come back.

Really disappointed to leave this review as I've always been a big fan of the railway but it just seems staff have lost their passion. On two separate occasions now it has been a shambles. First was a family birthday, partner sent preorder through the webpage and paid the deposit. We received no acknowledgement of the booking so he called in the day later, they hadn't even put it on the system, there was another customer on the phone also having the same issue. He gave pre orders once more and showed proof of the deposit. On the day of the meal, they still didn't have our pre orders, two of the original choices weren't available and the last gammon had been sold - which wouldn't have happened if they had logged our preorder. Partner then had to once again show proof he had paid. Our original deserts also weren't available as nothing on the preorders had been reserved for us. Staff didn't know how to make a basic Irish coffee when requested and food was a bit tasteless. 3 weeks later we returned for another family birthday. Despite preorders being sent through email, Facebook and over the phone, nothing had been logged again. 3 people went without their original choices. It was a Sunday dinner but the beef was so tough I couldn't cut it with a normal knife. Starters lacked any effort. Prawn cocktail came with a slice of what looked like braces bread just cut in half, soup had the consistency of baby pureé and had chunks of unmixed flavouring. Then we were once again told that the original deserts had all sold and only lemon cheesecake left. Ordered an Irish coffee again and this came with curdled cream. It's such a shame as this could be a great restaurant but if people are paying deposits on a large reservation, then that is to reserve their table and choices. To go twice and see the same problem both times isn't good enough. I wouldn't hurry back to The Railway, but I do hope they can resolve these issues.

I travel a lot for work and eat in a lot of places. I was pleasantly surprised by the railway, in a small village in tredegar, not what I was expecting. The pub has a large car park, it's spacious and clean, family feel to it. The chef came out and asked me how the food was. The staff were friendly and well led. The brisket was so Beautifully cooked and the desserts were amazing. I was with a few deaf powwow tonight and the staff catered for this disability very well. This will land on my Instagram blog as one of the best places I have eaten in months. Well deserved

Me and my girlfriend visited The Railway yesterday (Sunday 15th May) and I'm really glad we did. We were greeted promptly, shown to our table and had our drinks order taken. Using their QR Code we accessed the menu and both opted for the same meals (Mushrooms for starters and beef for main) The Mushrooms were lovely and again the food was brought out in a timely manner. The beef however was even better. You could have cut it with a spoon. The best beef I have ever had. The portion sizes was excellent and everything from the roasties to the veg was cooked to perfection. Would 100% recommend this to others.

The best meal I’ve ever had in tredegar and I’ve been to them all. Some free advice. Skip breakfast if your coming for lunch and skip lunch if your coming for an evening meal. It’s nice to see an independent smokehouse actually smoke meat properly....

The steak, served with fresh tasty veg, was the best! Beautifully cooked, easy to eat, with the greatest of taste. 10/10.
