The Tredegar Arms Restaurant in Blaenau Gwent

Absolutely awful service, probably the worst service I’ve had anywhere in years. We were asked for our drinks order and drinks came, another party arrived after us, ordered drinks and food order was taken before ours. We had to ask if we could order food as we were never asked and had already waited a long time (there were only 2 tables in the restaurant). Food was terrible. Never had a poor experience food wise here but it was all dreadful. All food was cold, had to ask for more gravy as never came with the food. Asked to see the dessert menu, we were then asked about 10 minutes later if we wanted to see the dessert menu, by the same person. My girlfriend asked if the brownie came out warm and the waitress said that it does - it was stone cold and rock hard. Also asked if the brownie had nuts, she said “I don’t think so.” They then forgot to bring out our desserts and we had to ask again where our food was. Went to the bar to pay for the food and there were at least 4 staff members who completely ignored is even though they were doing nothing. We asked if we could split the bill in 2. A staff member with piercings and short curly hair asked if we could divide it into 2 ourselves because working it out themselves would be way too much work. My girlfriend following this explained that we had received terrible service and wasn’t happy with our experience for whoever needed to be informed to which they replied laughing and said “I’ll let them know.” They then started tapping aggressively and sighing on the tills clearly very annoyed that someone had picked them up on their shocking effort at their job. The whole time we were there, staff were eating biscuits and drinking tea behind the bar in front of patrons, should be very visible on cctv all afternoon. Everyone was all too busy chatting, vaping and doing nothing to make sure service was even close to being acceptable for TWO tables. 1000% will not eat here again.

Well what can I say!! Came for my husband's 40th birthday a group of 19 people! We were sat in the restaurant privately and the room was set up perfectly so everyone was sat together, I provided a few little decorations which were set up lovely to add to the finishing touches. We were greeted by Bar manager Ben who was very friendly and professional and led us to the tables making sure everything was perfect for us! Food was served by the lovely Michelle who couldn't do enough for us! All 19 Starters and then mains were served together and piping hot!! Nobody was left waiting. The meals were delicious and not 1 complaint of anyone. Ben came and checked on us numerous times to see if meals were OK? Did we need extra drinks? Which he brought to the table save us going to bar and made sure he spoke with everyone including the children. Very friendly and chatty person and does an exceptional job as his role of bar manager. We will definitely be returning

Melting beef, delicious array with f fresh vegetables, Yorkshire pudding on steroids!!! Topped off with sticky toffee pudding and custard, absolutely banging😍

I did not stay at this hotel but met up with two friends who had stayed the night for breakfast, as we were meeting up for a funeral of our best friend later that morning. Breakfast was very poor , the toast had been griddled not toasted and was already buttered!! Poached eggs did not have runny yolk and the toasted bread tasted weird. We had two coffees too that were ok. When I paid for bill I was shocked at the cost of £25 . Normally I would have complained but was not in the mood as was attending my best friends funeral so was not in the mood for confrontation . Very disappointing . Reason for late post , picked up wrong venue initially

Great service from booking to the meal. 21 of us in our party and everyone had their starters together and mains together. The staff were amazing. Can’t thank them enough for making my mother’s birthday special.

Menu wasn't the biggest for choice but the pork belly I ate and the chicken my partner had were excellently cooked. Range of lagers was very good and served immaculately, would eat and sleep again when the next visit is due.

Hmmm very average food. Very polite staff, but I think the whole hospitality staff/customer facing need training in what is expected of a waiter. We ordered Thai Fishcakes and Leak and Potato Soup for starters, sadly the soup was extremely salty and peppery, possibly inedible and the bread that was served with more salt (sea). The Thai Fishcakes were soggy on the inside, I would think not fresh fish used. I was disappointed as we’d visited for a special occasion. Also, weird choice of music in the ‘restaurant’ 80’s American Rock on a Sunday afternoon 🙄

Would highly recommend tredegar arms for a fabulous meal and venue, whether as couples or family group they do not disappoint, this is my 4th visit and again stunning, a party of 20 +, the food all came at the same time noone waited. The service we had was exceptional nothing was too much trouble, staff at the bar very pleasant, just waiting to book again as this is essential. Thank you once again

Visited for a meal, the pasta meal was overly salty, and the vegan nourish bowl described as avacado, water melon, vegan feta, mint and sesame seeds with a maple dressing, was a few slices of watermelon on some lettuce, onions and cucumber....won't be returning

All the meals we had were excellent, particularly the breakfasts, lots of options, friendly staff and huge!

We were tourists in the area after doing the Waterfall Trail in the Brecon Beacons, we were staying in town. We popped in for dinner last night and were greater with such a warm welcome. The restaurant was busy but they strived to find us a table and served really nice reasonable food. Ben was charming and looked after us. We played some pool and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely meal here. The food was well presented and very tasty. Great friendly customer service was provided by Luke and abbey.

Heard so much about this place so we thought let's pay a visit, we were not disappointed, lovely setting very friendly staff both behind the bar and the table service, nothing was to much trouble. Now the food, I have attached some pics because you can see for yourselves, I had the turkey dinner it was delicious my daughter had the burger, and my friend had chicken supreme. The meals were hot and very tasty and plenty of it, I cant wait to try a sunday lunch, so definitely will be visiting again

Second time to the TA _ back to the town of my youth. I must say that we were looked after very well particularly by the guy from Bargoed who's name if I recall right was Stan.. In spite of it being Saturday late afternoon lots of people around my wife and I were well looked after. The food was great and so was the service. Can't wait to return

Good menu and quality of food was excellent. Very reasonable prices and service was quick and friendly.
