The Castle Inn in Blaenau Gwent

Ordered the silion steak along with three orthers, second worst steak I've ever had. All steaks were at least 3/4 fat. Peppercorn sauce wasn't good either. Left there hungry and had toast when I got home...

Beef was fantastic, vegetables good , roast potatoes awful 4 new potatoes with skin on baked. Staff friendly the biggest problem was we booked 1 week ago didn’t have a starter just a main and dessert arrived at 1 as booked ordered coffees at 1.40 and told we have to vacate the table in 10 minutes. Very disappointed won’t be returning or recommending

The beef Sunday dinner was amazing, service and atmosphere was a 10 out of 10. I would recommend highly to everyone.

Very busy on a Sunday, but wonderful atmosphere, sweet staff and great food. Got vegetarian options as well.

Absolute tripe. Service was appalling, made to wait 1.5 hours for food after ordering. They sent out undercooked chicken skewers. Even one of the staff said the thought it was a terrible place. Waiting 30 minutes to even be seen by some one to come and ask us for desert…. Only 17/18 people in the room in total, and it took ages. They even burnt the chips and the veg was gone off. I even took the steak back for my dog and he spat it out. I hate leaving bad reviews but sort it out for god sake. Feel sorry for my uncle! Went for a birthday meal for his 60th, and we would have had a better time having a pasty from the shop. On a plus side, we had nice food when we got home. Make some changes and I’ll change this review.

Visited for the first time yesterday for Sunday lunch and were very impressed. Food was excellent and generously portioned and the staff were attentive and went the extra mile to give a welcoming experience. We will be back thank you.

The castle inn Rassau First night of the Wednesday curry night tonight 17/04/2024 Four choices of curry all home made that come with chip rice and naan bread Extras being poppadoms chutney and mint sauce Bombay potatoes etc I had the chicken vindaloo My partner chicken tikka Very tasty large enough portions The vindaloo had a nice kick to it just how I like it Curry rice chips and naan with a pint or glass of wine £15 all very tasty Well done Jon and his team I think your on to a winner with this one 👍🏼 Will try burger night Tuesday next And pub quiz Sunday All the best with these new menus People get yourselves up there for a lovely ruby 👍🏼

Honest mixed reviews. Been to this place a few times and the service and staff has been second to none, had both normal menu which our food was out of this world. Then returned for Sunday lunch which was the best I’ve ever had soft veg and the BEST red braised red cabbage I’ve ever had! Being a foodie and always trying new places this place is hard to beat. However, last week we had Sunday lunch and the roast was disappointing! Hard veg, dry hard red cabbage, and just wasn’t up to standards first time around! So disappointing as consistency is everything because people will ALWAYS return if the food is spot on especially £16 a Sunday roast! I think there are two different chefs on a Sunday at certain times so this is a hit or miss! Owners of the Castle, your pub and food are usually amazing but you need to keep to one chef on a Sunday!

Lovely little place, good food and a good pint too. I had the burger which was lovely, if slightly overcooked for my caveman taste 😂 staff were great and the right amount of attentive. Will definitely return!

The best restaurant in the local area by a fair distance. We went for Sunday dinner with one side of the family, and then raved about it so much that the other side of the family demanded we go with them. Great service and really fair pricing too.

Excellent food & Service! Just felt the window blinds should have been raised to let more natural light into the dining room allowing a warmer natural atmosphere, we had a lunchtime meal.

We had pre-booked when booking we were not made aware that it was burger night which was disappointing as we had decided we wanted different food. This should have been made clear at the time of booking

Have been here twice and the experience has been the same both times. The place is too cold (I went prepared this time in tights and a jumper). We pre-ordered, but the food arrived 50 minutes after we had sat down. When the food does arrive, it is delicious and the service, when it happens, is really good. I wouldn't choose to go back because of the cold and the waiting, which is a shame as the food is tasty and the staff are lovely.

We had a cosy dinner for 2 last night at The Castle. We shared the belly pork with Mac n cheese and the garlic mushrooms for starters, they were absolutely delicious. Then we both had the steak pie which has been excellent every time I’ve had it, light flaky pastry, tender beef and a mouthwatering savoury sauce. A lovely bottle of Malbec to accompany the meal, a slice of white chocolate cheesecake followed by a chilly starlit walk home rounded the night off beautifully. Thank you to all the staff who are always very welcoming ☺️

Over night motorhome stopover. Random find on our way to visit family in Gowerton and we struck lucky. We arrived without ringing ahead as we were so close when the weather helped us decide to stop! The manager could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was fully booked, so we could eat at 5, 8:30 or eat at a table in the bar, which is what we chose to do. The food was excellent and there is a good selection of drinks. We sat chattng with some locals in the bar who were extremely friendly. Parking could be a bit tight if the carpark was full, but there is a large space at the back of the carpark that you can reverse into. Some road noise, but would definitely stop again if we pass this way.

Oh my goodness - we’ve been fortunate enough to try a few new restaurants lately but none compare to The Castle Inn. Always comfortable, cosy and welcoming… staff are superb, attentive when needed but not intrusive allowing you to enjoy your meal. The food tonight was on another level … I had the roast belly pork and partner had the tandoori rump of Welsh lamb .. both dishes were so tasty, cooked to perfection and fresh (no skimpy portion sizes either) … both had garlic mushrooms to start. It’s always well booked up but the chef/owner Jon accommodated us at short notice 😃 if you like great food, reasonable prices, good service and quality then you won’t be disappointed …… We will be returning again and again to this Gem 💎

Just moved to the area and had a great meal last night. Steak and ale pie and sirloin steak mains, both superb.

This is our second visit as a family with a toddler for a Sunday roast, and it's been wonderful both times. They offer smaller portions for children, which is a great plus. The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The quality is consistently high. The waiter and bar staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating – they're always ready to assist with anything you may need. I highly recommend booking in advance because it's a popular spot. Also, the ample parking is a big convenience. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, making it a fantastic place for a family outing.

My husband and I found this little gem of a place on trip advisor and what a gem it is! The food was amazing, my husband had the pie and I had the chicken and it did not disappoint. We also took advantage of the free cheesecake dessert offer they had on which was a lovely gesture. I did think that as it was free it might have just been a frozen one but how wrong I was, it was homemade and delicious like the mains we’d had eaten. The service and the decor were fab aswell! We can’t wait to go back and eat by the open fire!

Excellent service, lovely friendly staff and the food was fantastic. Booked for a family birthday meal, in total 19 of us ! Considering we were a large party, all our meals come out together and piping hot ! Highly recommend.

We were a party of 12, all 12 absolutely enjoyed the food, service was very friendly and didnt have to wait long, which is great when you have hungry children in your party, in our opinion the best of local eateries in the area, will definitely be back.

First time visit and will definitely go again. Staff very friendly. Premises very clean and cosy, nice set up not crammed. Toilets were clean. Finally to the food....which was a very nice balance quality and quantity. Thoroughly enjoyed and the free desserts were definitely a bonus

My partner and I booked to have a meal here following it being recommended by the Level Inn, where we were staying. The food was absolutely sublime and exceptional value for money. I had the salt and chilli pork belly and can honestly say it was the best meal out I've had all year. The place was well decorated and had a nice ambience, the staff were also very friendly. Would definitely recommend this pub and will certainly be revisiting next time I'm in the area.

Easy to find just of the old heads of the valleys road. Service was somewhat slow but to be expected for the time of night we went. Food was good value for money but found the menu was very limited with little option for customisation

Went for Sunday lunch not very impressed, presentation was very good, plenty of veg, meat was very nice and the roast potatoes were delicious, we're old and we like our food well cooked, unfortunately the veg was quite hard not cooked for long enough for our liking and could have been hotter. Try it for yourself if you like the way they cook it it'll be right up your street

The food is amazing, we had the chicken burger and some Pie which was on the ofen for 5h. Sadly i don‘t remember the name of it but both were really awesome! I‘d give 6 stars if i could💪

We visited here looking at reviews and they was right! I had the minted lamb burger and geez it was the best burger I've had for a long time! I'd happily recommend this place for dinner!

Absolutely brilliant place, the food is phenomenal! Stayed here whilst on a business trip. Room was spacious, with all necessary things you'd need for an overnight stay, however the food was certainly the highlight for me. I highly recommend the steak and caramelised onion pie.....it is out of this world!! Great portion size, the vegetables were lovely and the dish itself was beyond my expectation, the starter too. Really lovely place, great food and great hospitality. Will certainly return .

Visited on Saturday evening as a birthday treat from my partner. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. Only issue we had was it was very warm in the restaurant with the heating on full and a wood burning fire not far from our table. But nothing too major, we just turned off the radiator that we were sat next to.

Sunday lunch for 10 for a wedding anniversary despite pre ordering main meals they were more than happy to allow us to change our order as a couple of us don't do gravy, the meals were hot and plentiful with loads of sides of veg. Service was great, the place itself was spotlessly clean. Definite go again kind of place

Had a meal in the castle last night and as usual with Jon's cooking it was absolutely outstanding how he can get pie and chips to taste so good defies belief ...also their Sunday lunch is the best we've ever had ..highly recommend you won't be disappointed

Lovely food but you wouldn't have known it was a Christmas meal they only offered Christmas crackers after we had eaten but the food for me was yummy

Absolutely brilliant. The best roast dinner I’ve had in years. We had a large group booking and nothing was too much trouble. The portions were huge and the food was all cooked perfectly. The waitress was really friendly and helpful and she has cute homemade cookies for the children which they all loved. An absolute gem of a find and we will definitely return.

Stayed for a weekend last week, had the very best experience. Room was comfortable and a decent size, great beer garden and plenty of parking. Had the steak and cheese pie in their restaurant, it was one of the best meals ever. Jon and his colleagues are super friendly and helpful, really cant recommended highly enough! The service was second to none all staff were pleasant and attentive aand very welcoming, I recently went to the Lygon Arms in Broadway the cotswold and the food at the castle beat them hands down xx

The food was very good, the best I’ve had in the surrounding area. There was a decent selection on the menu and the dishes/plates were suited to the meal not generic which I think is a nice touch. The staff were friendly and professional and there was a nice atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting there again.
