The Castle Inn in Blaenau Gwent

Visited for the first time yesterday for Sunday lunch and were very impressed. Food was excellent and generously portioned and the staff were attentive and went the extra mile to give a welcoming experience. We will be back thank you.

The best restaurant in the local area by a fair distance. We went for Sunday dinner with one side of the family, and then raved about it so much that the other side of the family demanded we go with them. Great service and really fair pricing too.

Excellent food & Service! Just felt the window blinds should have been raised to let more natural light into the dining room allowing a warmer natural atmosphere, we had a lunchtime meal.

We had pre-booked when booking we were not made aware that it was burger night which was disappointing as we had decided we wanted different food. This should have been made clear at the time of booking

What a lovely place, had Sunday lunch which was amazing, the staff were all super friendly, the fire was lit it was so warm and welcoming, lovely atmosphere highly recommend

Have been here twice and the experience has been the same both times. The place is too cold (I went prepared this time in tights and a jumper). We pre-ordered, but the food arrived 50 minutes after we had sat down. When the food does arrive, it is delicious and the service, when it happens, is really good. I wouldn't choose to go back because of the cold and the waiting, which is a shame as the food is tasty and the staff are lovely.

We had a cosy dinner for 2 last night at The Castle. We shared the belly pork with Mac n cheese and the garlic mushrooms for starters, they were absolutely delicious. Then we both had the steak pie which has been excellent every time I’ve had it, light flaky pastry, tender beef and a mouthwatering savoury sauce. A lovely bottle of Malbec to accompany the meal, a slice of white chocolate cheesecake followed by a chilly starlit walk home rounded the night off beautifully. Thank you to all the staff who are always very welcoming ☺️

Over night motorhome stopover. Random find on our way to visit family in Gowerton and we struck lucky. We arrived without ringing ahead as we were so close when the weather helped us decide to stop! The manager could not have been more pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was fully booked, so we could eat at 5, 8:30 or eat at a table in the bar, which is what we chose to do. The food was excellent and there is a good selection of drinks. We sat chattng with some locals in the bar who were extremely friendly. Parking could be a bit tight if the carpark was full, but there is a large space at the back of the carpark that you can reverse into. Some road noise, but would definitely stop again if we pass this way.

Lovely comfortable and very clean . Attended after a funeral . The food and service was very good. Cleanliness was excellent. Not a speck of dust anywhere. Everything was spotlessly clean.

Oh my goodness - we’ve been fortunate enough to try a few new restaurants lately but none compare to The Castle Inn. Always comfortable, cosy and welcoming… staff are superb, attentive when needed but not intrusive allowing you to enjoy your meal. The food tonight was on another level … I had the roast belly pork and partner had the tandoori rump of Welsh lamb .. both dishes were so tasty, cooked to perfection and fresh (no skimpy portion sizes either) … both had garlic mushrooms to start. It’s always well booked up but the chef/owner Jon accommodated us at short notice 😃 if you like great food, reasonable prices, good service and quality then you won’t be disappointed …… We will be returning again and again to this Gem 💎

Just moved to the area and had a great meal last night. Steak and ale pie and sirloin steak mains, both superb.

This is our second visit as a family with a toddler for a Sunday roast, and it's been wonderful both times. They offer smaller portions for children, which is a great plus. The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The quality is consistently high. The waiter and bar staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating – they're always ready to assist with anything you may need. I highly recommend booking in advance because it's a popular spot. Also, the ample parking is a big convenience. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, making it a fantastic place for a family outing.

My husband and I found this little gem of a place on trip advisor and what a gem it is! The food was amazing, my husband had the pie and I had the chicken and it did not disappoint. We also took advantage of the free cheesecake dessert offer they had on which was a lovely gesture. I did think that as it was free it might have just been a frozen one but how wrong I was, it was homemade and delicious like the mains we’d had eaten. The service and the decor were fab aswell! We can’t wait to go back and eat by the open fire!

Excellent service, lovely friendly staff and the food was fantastic. Booked for a family birthday meal, in total 19 of us ! Considering we were a large party, all our meals come out together and piping hot ! Highly recommend.

We were a party of 12, all 12 absolutely enjoyed the food, service was very friendly and didnt have to wait long, which is great when you have hungry children in your party, in our opinion the best of local eateries in the area, will definitely be back.

First time visit and will definitely go again. Staff very friendly. Premises very clean and cosy, nice set up not crammed. Toilets were clean. Finally to the food....which was a very nice balance quality and quantity. Thoroughly enjoyed and the free desserts were definitely a bonus

My partner and I booked to have a meal here following it being recommended by the Level Inn, where we were staying. The food was absolutely sublime and exceptional value for money. I had the salt and chilli pork belly and can honestly say it was the best meal out I've had all year. The place was well decorated and had a nice ambience, the staff were also very friendly. Would definitely recommend this pub and will certainly be revisiting next time I'm in the area.

Easy to find just of the old heads of the valleys road. Service was somewhat slow but to be expected for the time of night we went. Food was good value for money but found the menu was very limited with little option for customisation

Went for Sunday lunch not very impressed, presentation was very good, plenty of veg, meat was very nice and the roast potatoes were delicious, we're old and we like our food well cooked, unfortunately the veg was quite hard not cooked for long enough for our liking and could have been hotter. Try it for yourself if you like the way they cook it it'll be right up your street

The food is amazing, we had the chicken burger and some Pie which was on the ofen for 5h. Sadly i don‘t remember the name of it but both were really awesome! I‘d give 6 stars if i could💪

We visited here looking at reviews and they was right! I had the minted lamb burger and geez it was the best burger I've had for a long time! I'd happily recommend this place for dinner!

Absolutely brilliant place, the food is phenomenal! Stayed here whilst on a business trip. Room was spacious, with all necessary things you'd need for an overnight stay, however the food was certainly the highlight for me. I highly recommend the steak and caramelised onion pie.....it is out of this world!! Great portion size, the vegetables were lovely and the dish itself was beyond my expectation, the starter too. Really lovely place, great food and great hospitality. Will certainly return .

Visited on Saturday evening as a birthday treat from my partner. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. Only issue we had was it was very warm in the restaurant with the heating on full and a wood burning fire not far from our table. But nothing too major, we just turned off the radiator that we were sat next to.

Sunday lunch for 10 for a wedding anniversary despite pre ordering main meals they were more than happy to allow us to change our order as a couple of us don't do gravy, the meals were hot and plentiful with loads of sides of veg. Service was great, the place itself was spotlessly clean. Definite go again kind of place

Had the Sunday roast was great! Veg was amazing and the pub generally is clean, great bathrooms and all that stuff that show that these owners have pride on what there doing, good for them 💪🏻

Had a meal in the castle last night and as usual with Jon's cooking it was absolutely outstanding how he can get pie and chips to taste so good defies belief ...also their Sunday lunch is the best we've ever had ..highly recommend you won't be disappointed

Lovely food but you wouldn't have known it was a Christmas meal they only offered Christmas crackers after we had eaten but the food for me was yummy

Absolutely brilliant. The best roast dinner I’ve had in years. We had a large group booking and nothing was too much trouble. The portions were huge and the food was all cooked perfectly. The waitress was really friendly and helpful and she has cute homemade cookies for the children which they all loved. An absolute gem of a find and we will definitely return.

Belly Pork starter was excellent...tried the steak pie main which was fine. Good chips...deserts which kids and grandkids had looked good. Overal good family pub, great service and more than decent food. Would happily go back.

Really friendly and welcoming staff made it a great way to spend a friday night! Will definitely be back again, a hidden gem on our doorstep!

Stayed for a weekend last week, had the very best experience. Room was comfortable and a decent size, great beer garden and plenty of parking. Had the steak and cheese pie in their restaurant, it was one of the best meals ever. Jon and his colleagues are super friendly and helpful, really cant recommended highly enough! Thank you for such a great welcome and stay, we will be back!

The food was absolutely amazing everything on the menu I could have eaten it was was very hard to choose what to have. The service was second to none all staff were pleasant and attentive aand very welcoming, I recently went to the Lygon Arms in Broadway the cotswold and the food at the castle beat them hands down xx

The food was very good, the best I’ve had in the surrounding area. There was a decent selection on the menu and the dishes/plates were suited to the meal not generic which I think is a nice touch. The staff were friendly and professional and there was a nice atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting there again.

We really enjoyed Mother’s Day Sunday lunch at The Castle Inn. I had creamy garlic mushrooms to start, which was divine. The main course roast beef was absolutely fantastic - melt in your mouth and a generous portion. Probably the best roast beef I have had in the area, and I do love a Sunday Lunch out. Great gravy too. I had the mango crème brûlée for dessert and it was sooo good, very creamy with a lovely sharp mango sauce and it came with two little shortbread biscuits. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the meal and drinks prices were very reasonable. I won’t hesitate to go back, especially as I want to try the weekday dinner menu, as I’ve heard great things. The atmosphere is very cosy; there’s a little background music and I loved the fire and the decor. I may well have found a new favourite place to dine. 5 stars from me!

We booked room only accommodation and had a big double room with a comfy bed and armchairs and of course an ensuite bathroom. All clean and spotless. The new hosts were very kind and helpful and anxious to please. Although no food is served there is a dining area and guests are allowed to have takeaways, the hosts will supply plates and cutlery. Good range of drinks at the bar.

Stayed for 2 nights for a weekend of biking at bike park wales. Twin room was great plenty of room for the 2 of us plus bags and good sized bathroom. Thanks guys

It chooses when it opens,, not very sufficient from family members from away or public on that account.... Not for me...

Wouldn't recommend eating here. The pub itself was freezing cold, toilets was damp. Took 25 minutes to be served with only 6 people in the whole building. Half of the food was missing, tasted like a micro meal. Told the staff about the poor quality and they knocked £2 off the bill

Visited The Castle Inn on Sunday 1st December for Sunday lunch. The restaurant had recently reopened,after a number of weeks of closure. A new chef had been appointed. Our party of 3 was warmly welcomed, and shown to our table on arrival. Our drinks order was taken and we were told that the menu was listed on the blackboards on the wall. Two of our party ordered starters:- the pate and the soup. The chicken liver pate was served with crusty bread, butter and a sweet chutney. The tomato and roasted red pepper soup, also came with crusty bread and butter. The hot soup was most welcome on a cold December day and was very tasty. For our mains 2 of us ordered the roast pork, with one of our party ordering the lamb.All 3 dishes came with roast potatoes, sage and onion stuffing and broccoli spears. A selection of peas, carrots , beans and boiled potatoes were also provided, together with extra gravy. Portions were generous and everything was nicely presented and well cooked. None of our party had any room left to try the desserts, on this occasion. Waiting staff were attentive, welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be back, and maybe we'll try the sticky toffee pudding next time!

Highly recommend this B&B! We had booked here for 1 night as we were at a friends wedding nearby. Checkin time was during the afternoon but, as the wedding was from 1pm; I had called ahead a week before to ask if it would be ok to arrive around 11.30, and would happily pay for the extra time. I was advised this was absolutely no problem at all and there would be no extra charge. We arrived around 11.45, the doors were locked and the number on the door wasn't being answered. I called the number for the Manager I had spoken to the week before and he couldn't have been any more helpful! It materialised Alan, who's number was on the front door and I couldn't get an answer for, was inside he just hadn't heard the phone. Alan came down to meet us and what a lovely man he is, so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. He carried our bags upstairs and drove us to the wedding venue about 10 minutes up the road (getting a taxi in this area can be tricky - we found you need to book at least 24 hours in advance). He even offered to pick us up! (We had a taxi booked so didn't need to).Breakfast (I had the full English) was lovely- nice quality food and not greasy. Alan was there to welcome us along with a lovely lady who was working with him, we could have sat and spoken to Alan all day! The room we had (2) was a double with a large bathroom. The room was clean (apart from some cobwebs) and the bed really comfortable. The towels smelt nice and were nice and soft. The only thing I would say is the B&B is a little out dated with its decor- but don't let this put you off.Alan advised the B&B is dog friendly so I am hoping to come back and stay with my dog.I hope a new chef can be found soon as the menus on the wall looked really nice but sadly food isn't available at the moment (although interviews for a new Chef are in progress). Alan waved us goodbye, even gave mu friend a hug as we left! What a lovely find - if you choose to stay here, I don't think you will be disappointed.
