Just the yummiest fish n chips! I had organised a birthday bonfire party and ordered a very large order, over 25 meals and it was delivered on time, hot and delivered by the owner Paul himself! Great communication with The Tavern team which made the ordering process super easy and I even ordered a few extras with an hour to go for delivery (oops!) and it wasn’t an issue. All the different meals for my guests were named and bagged together which made my job handing out the meals stress free!! Everyone commented how lovely everything was! Highly recommended, great customer service and will certainly order again!

Paul and the team go above and beyond to ensure your experience is a good one. We held my mums Wake at the Railway Tavern, my mum has always loved it there as we have had 4 previous family functions there. We had chip butties which were a favourite of my mum’s, the chips are always extremely good as any of the food on the chip shop menu, we don’t go anywhere else! Thank you for going above and beyond again.

This is what they call a LARGE portion of chips absolutely ridiculous. The queue was long as all other chip shops were closed and only one person was actually dishing up the food, took 30 minutes to get served.

Just brilliant! The railway tavern catered for over 50 people at my house party. Delivered when promised, piping hot. Nobody went hungry on these amazing chips! Could confidently say these were the best chips you could buy! Wouldn’t hesitate to use the Tavern again! Thanks so much !

I originally contacted The Railway to enquire about using their event space for my grandfathers wake. They were kind and professional, and once we mentioned that my grandfather had been in the navy, Paul at The Railway immediately checked to make sure we had everything we needed for the service. We had trouble sorting out things like a standard bearer ourselves as we hadn’t arranged any funeral before, let alone a veteran funeral and it was incredibly stressful worrying that we might not give my grandfather the service he deserved. There are honestly not enough words to say how amazing Paul and The Railway were. They made calls and arranged for the bugler (something we hadn’t even thought of) and helped us get a standard bearer. The event space was also lovely and there’s a playground outside for kids. Prices for drinks were also great. Their help relieved so much of the stress and pressure at an incredibly difficult time for my family and I will honestly be grateful forever. Thank you so much, you were amazing.

Booked this venue for my daughters 18th Birthday party. As a local in Dereham I wanted something nearby everyone and although enjoy a drink in this pub regularly, first time using as a party venue. Booking really easy and was given plenty of options and help for all the other necessary bits, disco, food and decorations! The Railway Tavern were really helpful and let me use an external decorator, they made this really easy to arrange along with the next days collection. Venue perfect for what we wanted, lots of space to move about completely independently to the pub and chip shop! Staff in the night couldn’t do more for me and everyone had a great night! Would highly recommend and definitely will use this venue again!

We had our Daughter christened on Sunday 17th September with our celebrations continuing at The Railway Tavern. We cannot thank Paul & Debbie enough for all they had done in regards to preparing and organising, nothing was too much trouble. They had organised a yummy spread for our guests (which received many compliments!), they had even offered to decorate the marquee for us so it was one less job for us to worry about and it looked beautiful. Their staff were fantastic, always making sure we were ok and if there was anything we needed. They had even made a little soft play area for the little ones 🥹 We really cannot thank you all enough and we would not hesitate in recommending you to friends & family ❤️

Booked here to host my dads suprise 50th birthday. Was a quick message on Facebook and it was booked in for us, and the pub even sorted the dj out for us so we didn’t have to worry about that. The staff were incredible being there from start (when we went down early afternoon to decorate), to early hours of the morning helping us tidy all the bits up. The prices are really affordable and reasonable, and with a chip shop attached makes it really handy, especially with little ones about, to give them dinner whilst the party went on. They were really chilled in regards to what we could do (have a photo booth for the party), and the landlords spirit to how many people we could have at the party “the more the merrier”. Shoutout to morgan and maddie who were incredibly helpful in setting up, packing away, and ensuring everything in between went smoothly! Would 100% recommend to anyone!!

We use The Railway Tavern fish and chip shop quite regularly. We have eaten in and also "take away". The food is always well cooked and very hot. The staff are very polite and you always get quick service.

We thought we would have a Saturday night treat and have fish and chips for tea. Visited the railway tavern and took our food home. Wish we hadn't, the chips must of been from a couple of days ago, re heated and not fit for human consumption the sausages were just as bad. It all went in the bin. Now why should I have to get back in my car and return and complain, cost me more money than I have already wasted. Never again. If any one asks ill say avoid. Even took a picture of the mess.

Needed food for our annual Christmas disco at short notice a couple of weeks ago and The Tavern did a great job. Four servings, all on time, which tasted great. Staff absolutely great and helped the two of us who picked up the food.

A great friendly pub with amazing bar staff,my wife had a 40th party recently and the management & staff were on hand to help with any questions and on the night the bar staff were great keeping everyone’s glasses filled whilst the dj played a good mixture of music to keep people up & dancing all night......defo a place to visit for a drink with a good range of alcohol on tap,with the added bonus of having Dereham’s best fish & chip shop with seating inside & out ......highly recommend this to anyone looking to have a party etc in the future

Came with my uncle to get Fish and chips last night. Portion size was great, I had skate which was cooked to perfection. Had a drink in tbe bar while we waited. All staff where polite and chatty. Great experience!

My husband and i dont know Dereham that well, but were hungry and decided to eat at the Railway Tavern because it offers a gluten free menu and i am gluten intolerant.

A wonderful birthday present from a friend , I was not disappointed - the fish was freshly cooked, so too the chips which were just as I and my husband like them crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Well Done to the young lady who did the cooking. I can thoroughly recommend the Railway Tavern and will definitely return when we are next in Dereham. Top marks to the Chef.

Decided to have our fish and chips from here for a change as our normal fish & chip shop in the town are making their portions smaller and smaller. What a big mistake ! On getting home and trying to dish up the cod and chips it was literally running with chip fat, the Cod was soggy due to the excessive amount of fat and the chips were,,, well nearly uneatable, we picked out the few good ones and chucked the rest, we wont be using The Railway again.

The Railway Tavern has an unusual set-up - it is a pub with a fish & chip shop next door, with a connecting passage. So you can order your fish & chips, and have a pint while it's being cooked. What a terrific idea. You can eat in too. And it's the best fish & chips in the area, in my view. There is some adjacent parking, or you can park opposite in the large shopping centre car park.

My husband & i had our wedding reception here, cannot thank Paul & Debbie enough for organising everything. It was perfect.

This is my local chippy and I haven't used it for a while so wondered what I would get.

Driven past this place several times, and as my partner is home on leave and we was in town he wanted his fish and chips, the establishment was nice and friendly staff, we placed our food order at the counter and as we wanted a drink from the bar we was offered if we wanted to pay the whole bill at the bar instead of 2 transactions. We both had cod chips and mushy peas and this was served to us by staff while we sat outside. The portion was of nice size cod had a nice crispy batter and the chips had a nice crunch too, since moving up from Hertfordshire we have found it hard to find a chip shop we both enjoyed as we compare it to your regular Popeyes back there, I must say on this occasion we couldn't decide who was the best, the only disadvantage here is it so close to the main road and a cross junction, however they are well fenced in so is a child friendly place with apparatus for them to enjoy, and I'm guessing the outside bar is a bonus in the hot weather. I will be back to try again,

Been here a few times now and can't fault it...the fish & chips are superb and cooked to order. There's loads of character to this pub. It has everything..Nice owner and staff, jukebox,great for sport,good beers and loads of good events which help some of the children's charities. Real friendly aphmosphere about the place.Well done, keep up the good work!

A friendly atmosphere at this sports bar/chippie/music venue, noisy sometimes but always a good natured buzz. Good quality fish freshly cooked, real ale and friendly staff.

We had 45 minutes to wait for the bus and just in front there is The Railway Tavern. Why wait doing nothing? I said to my wife 'Let us have a look' We ordered 2 Cods and chips with 2 diet coke. You can have a beer if you like too. There are several of them to chose from. Cod was fresh and delicious and chips freshly cut. The girls at the counter are fantastic and beautiful too. We were very satisfied and we finish just in time to catch our bus.

Called in on the way past for take away fish & chips on the night of 17th May , we thought we would give them a try.

Ideal to linger with the WiFi, grab a quick bite or drink, or for a family meal of fish and chips [or saveloy, or fish cakes, etc etc] TVs usually showing sport all around. Family atmosphere and very friendly service. There also seems to be a function room for special events.

Had a great night here just before Christmas. Good range of drinks, reasonably priced. Good, friendly service...I'll be back!

We decided to have fish and chips to takeaway tonight. Being gluten free we rang aheadto,order. The staff were extremely helpful and the fish and chips were cooked to perfection. The batter was outstanding.

Went in for fish and chips earlier, they were absolutely gorgeous lovely sized, best I've had in years, customer service was excellent!

Vimos el cartel de gluten llamado nos sirvieron con delicioso pescado y patatas fritas. El dueño nos dijo siempre es mejor llamar si puedes, ya lleva un poco más de tiempo para preparar Sin Gluten. Valió la pena la espera.

Went and bought sausage and chips for me and a friend unfortunately the chips were crunchy but stale and the size of the portions of chips were smaller than the size for a child

Very stingy portion of chips. Chips were dry and withered where they'd been hung onto for far too long. Try giving them to customers in greater quantity while they are still edible!

Worst fish and chips I've had in years. Chip were cold, hard and crispy, I'd say they had been sitting in the fryer all day.Even the Dog turned his nose up to them.Fish was like rubber.Won't be buying from their again

This is an unassuming place and could be easily missed. You must visit if you are in this area. The fish and chips are amazing, fresh, generous and not greasy. The staff are helpful and the drinks are a good price. It really is good food at a great price!!!

We had a groupon voucher as we had visited before , so we thought we would give them a go. Bad move. The place was ok, a bit like a tap room of a pub, well, it is part of a pub. Sat down and served by a nice woman. We got our fish and chips and they were not up to the usual standard. They were not hot, seemed like they had been sat around for too long and the oil /fat needed changing. One woman seemed to be doing most of the work, while woman with dyed blonde hair and lots of tattoos , seemed to take great delight in hanging around doing nothing , just laughing with the servers. There were 2 couples in at the same time and they didn't seem as though they appreciated much either. We finished our meal and leftI don't think we will be going back. Groupon or no groupon

We recently visited this pub during the Blues Festival in Dereham. We found all the staff really friendly and welcoming. We opted to order for our lunch haddock and chips and mushy peas. We had very good portions and it all tasted great. Would definitely visit again.

Had a Groupon voucher to use, so checked the website and saw that they served Gluten free on a Monday evening. We went on a busy Bank Holiday lunchtime and they fired up the gluten free fryer especially for me! Extremely helpful owner who explained how they avoided cross contamination. Of course there was a bit of a wait but it was worth it! !Unusual combination of a chippie on one side and a football team pub on the other. Definitely quirky, but fun. Free WiFi, disabled loo and lots of tables outside for wheelchair ♿ bound guests.

Its a fish and chip restaurant with a cafe bar attached. Management and staff are extremely friendly and helpful, It has a a wonderful atmosphere and seems to embrace strangers and regulars alike. It a place for football and sport fanatics on certain nights, but no worse for that

I would say this is the worse place for Fish and Chips in Dereham but I'd be wrong as they aren't the worst but come close. Our favourite place was shut and so we came here instead big mistake. The fish was small over cooked which made it dry but the outside was so greasy is was swimming in oil and the chips were just as bad. Will never go there again.

Used for a charity quiz night and all delivered and the food was great considering it was a large order. Great price too!!Would definitely use again for other functions.

I have visited with friends and family on numerous occasions ,,although I can't comment on evenings, the fish and chips are as good as,it gets, friendly staff, And customer service to put many a place to shame, yes they've made a few errors , but have always sorted them, they must be doing something right, just see how busy they are for yourself

Good pub to have a drink and good place to stuff your face with chips. Great if you have kids, and a good place if you wanna catch up with some sport.

This place is split into 2 a fish and chip shop on one side and a bar on the other, I think it best for me to described as 3 different places...1 - fish & Chips shopThe fish and chip shop is amazing. I really can't fault it. Not only do they deliver on certain days but they also do a gluten free fish and chip menu on a Monday. I have never known a fish and chip shop to do this. The food is always great, mid week tends to be the best time to get the best consistency of amazing food. 2 - Mid day restaurant / pubIf you go into the pub side during the day you can turn you fish and chip take away into a very nice sit down meal with a drink. It is really quite nice and the food sizes are big so you get your money's worth. Just wish they had some more desserts.3 - Night Time Bar / Sports BarIf you go visit the pub side during a big football game or after 7 at the weekend you will find the small bar area packed. I am not the kind of guy which likes this but if it is your thing I am sure you will love it. The last time I went I thought it was to busy and not enough room for everyone to fit. It did also leave we wondering how the chip shop staff can hear customers with the music so loud but they seem to work around it.I have found the staff to be very happy and friendly (bar side not as much) but overall I give it 4 out of 5.

Fish & chips were beautiful good portion loads of choice & quality food. staff really friendly & helpful great with the kids. The bar attached is equally as brilliant, kids loved the outside play area and bouncy castle. Highly recommended to everyone! Will definitely be going back!

A bit of an odd place, a bit scruffy, had to order the fish and chips and wait, as they had nothing ready although it was mid service. Staff were more interested in watching TV, I am really glad we took the fish and chips away rather than eating in. Although fish and chips are a greasy food by the very nature of their cooking, the food here was very greasy and although cooked fresh, the fish was soggy and unappetising. Portion size was adequate though.

Good food and ideal for if you have children and fancy a quick pint then food to take home. Highly recommended

We arrived at 21.10 in the evening for a take-away as my wife had just been released from A&E and i really didn't fancy cooking after a very traumatic day.The staff ignored we for the first couple of minutes, but once they had concluded their conversation took my order of a couple of haddock and chips. I'm not sure if cooking fish and chips is a major issue but the order was received as if i had asked them to shoot a well loved pet!!!. If we hadn't just spent 14hrs waiting in hospital and been just desperate to grab some food I would have walked out at that point. Mores the pity I didn't.On opening the meal at home, the chips were greasy, the batter was soggy and the whole thing was pretty inedible. Poor customer service.Poor food,Never going back!

The Tavern is n interesting place, with a decent menu in terms of choice that you would expect in such a place. It has a old charm and character to it. Food was not bad but a standard you would expect.

Good fish and chips. Mucky glasses in the bar let it down.Overall for a takeaway its good. A beer whilst waiting is good, but not a local.

Portions are generous but the food is a bit too greasy even for a fish and chip shop. The service is always pretty good so it is a shame the food is greasy. I am loathe to suggest you go into town to the big fry as the service there is pretty awful but I have to be honest it is the food that counts and the fish there is better.
