Visited today first time despite only living round the corner and wow! The best carvery have ever had. So much choice, everything piping hot. Over 8 veg, ( 3 meats, sausages, stuffing balls, pork crackling, massive Yorkshire puddings. The closest have ever got to my Nans Sunday dinner! And with proper thick gravy. Was made to feel so very welcome and chatted with staff. Most definitely going to be our new favourite place.

We visited the Railway this weekend, which we found on Google when asked for 'carveries near me'- we were in the area with some friends. The landlady said she could get us in when I phoned and enquired, and when we arrived a while before our booking time to have a drink, they got our table ready and we were all done with our meal before time. Impressed!! It was busy but didn't affect the service or standard of food. Meat was perfect and the range of veg was staggering!! Nine different types. We scoffed the lot and were stuffed. It really was yummy. Wouldn definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Was a lovely dinner!! Thanks!!

My Nan often visited Boston up until the nineties, visiting my grandads mum and sister who both lived around the corner from the Railway Pub on Garfits Lane. My grandad passed away last year, so for sentimental reasons my partner and I brought her back to Boston for a trip down memory lane. She reminisced how she and my grandad would have a drink in the ‘old Railway pub’, where ‘old blokes would sit on the window playing dominoes’. So of course we wanted to take her for a drink and as they offered food, a bite to eat. You should know that my nan is like an extreme version of Katherine Tate’s ‘Nan’ persona, always finds a fault, and isn’t shy about sounding off when something upsets her. After looking up the Railway pub on trip advisor and seeing how much it’s probably changed since she last visited, my expectation was that she would disapprove of its modernisation, that someone would disgruntle her and we would hear no end of it for the rest of trip and journey home. Thankfully this was not so. We booked a table in advance for the Sunday carvery, as reviews on trip advisor suggest it is good. We arrived early, the pub seemed busy enough for its capacity, we didn’t have to wait too long to be served at the bar, we ordered drinks while a table was readied for us ahead of our booking. We were told to ‘go on up’ when we were ready. We were hungry so we didn’t hang about. I counted four different meats to choose from, the feller carving the meat was friendly and full of banter, he said that everyone was on the beef so I had pork and turkey instead. I helped myself to some veg and trimmings - lots to choose from, returned to the table and tucked in. The food was on point, the meat had been cooked well, it was moist and flavoursome. I particularly liked my yorkshire pud and was inspired by the ingenuity of mini roast potatoes. My partner liked the gravy and even my nan, who said she wasn’t ‘all that hungry’, cleared her plate. It was wholesome and homely and all three of us loved it. And may I add, much much much better than any carvery I’ve had previously. Satisfied with what we’d eaten, we didn’t have a pudding. We did not feel rushed, even though we didn’t hang about. We paid up and left to free the table up for the next wave of ravenous diners. We were pleasantly surprised that our food bill only came to, I’m told, £25. My nan wanted to pay as a thank you for the trip and of all the weekend, she felt buying ‘this lovely meal’ was a great way of saying thanks. She even left a fiver tip! And she never tips. I would like to go on and say that I’ve worked restaurants before, managed and served, and I dine out a lot too, so it makes me super critical when I visit new places. I got the impression that the Railway has undergone/undergoing a transition perhaps, finding its feet as a food venue because, like most traditional pubs, the cultures not there anymore - I could be wrong. There was evidence to suggest it functions, or has functioned, as a pub come bar nightclub with a dance floor? The toilets seemed new, my nan commented on how the building had been extended. Whichever the case, as far as being a food venue goes, well done. In my opinion you are getting it right. Not only is the food worth coming back for, but the hospitality was there, not in the formal dining sense, but in being welcoming, relaxing, and friendly, I felt at ease and in good hands - the girls floating about the floor were attentive, the lady that cleared our table was chatty, as was the woman on the bar, and even the little Thai(?) lass that emerged from the kitchen to refresh the veg while I was queuing for food still smiled wen we made eye contact even though she seemed busy. And as we were pulling out of the parking space, waiting for the car in front to move so we could leave, the chap that had been carving the meat was out back, getting some fresh air, he gave a final smile and waved. Not once, but twice, as the first time I hadn’t noticed as my Nan was whittering her joys and satisfaction from the back seat. So thank you, it helped make the weekend special. What a shame I’m not a local as I would be singing your praises and steering trade your way. So I hope this overly long review helps bring others in our place and wish all the very best for the future.

The Railway Inn was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. The food is plentiful and freshly cooked so is lovely and hot. A choice of 5 meats which is carved by Dean the owner (a very nice, friendly guy). I have never seen such a large array of vegetables, all fresh and cooked to perfection (nothing sloppy or overcooked). Honestly....it is mind blowing. See my photos. We have booked again for next Sunday. The price is really reasonable too. We also tried the Thai themed evening last Friday and the food was top class. We are returning next week for that too!

We took 88 year old mother in law for Sunday lunch and she thought it was lovely! Dean was very patient with her when she couldn’t decide which meat to have and she ended up with a little of each. The waitress went out of her way to get her the desert she wanted, ice cream with tinned fruit. I can’t thank them enough for making her visit enjoyable ( she can be very hard to please!) well done all!

A group of seven friends enjoyed a wonderful Thai meal here on Friday. The chef, and second chef, were happy to to explain the dishes and offer suggestions. We all enjoyed the food enormously. A few suggestions: The ambiance could be improved somewhat. The room is large and the restaurant area was at one end. We were happy to be accommodated in the main bar area, which 'felt' better. A warmer welcome would have been appreciated but I have to say this really did improve during the evening. We enjoyed the quiz paper and would seriously consider the quiz evening, which I think is Wednesday. This Thai food really is very, very good and the chef (and chef) certainly deserve a pat on the back. Thank you!

Yesterday we decided to have lunch out and as we had been told about the lovely food in the railway pub by a friend . We decided to go there . We was welcomed by a very friendly man who was serving behind a very clean bar. We asked for the menus and luckily the gentleman also told us that his cook could also do other foods such as a very nice Thai chicken and rice meal . My husband and I chose the chicken and rice and we was not dissapointed . It was so fresh and lots of exiting textures and flavours . May I stress I'm very hard to please normally but I could go there everyday and eat this .

So my 17 year old nephew is photographing the food and blogging! I just thought what a great place! The food was just great for the price, starters at £2.95 and mains for a burger and chips was just £6.00, and there was no compromise on the quality. It was their first week at serving food in the week so we were patient I'm sure they will speed up. Feeling passionate about supporting the small people? with a big chain over the road I bet their pints are not £2.50 tho!

Went here for a Sunday carvery. This restaurant has recently been refurbished and is nicely decorated. The toilets are clean and well tended and the staff are friendly. Plenty of car parking spaces.I had roast turkey with yorkshire pudding and a selection of vegetables. The turkey was tender but the vegetables were tasteless and the whole meal was barely warm. For dessert I had lemon sponge and custard. The sponge was very light and lemony and the custard was a good consistency.Prices were a little higher than the average carvery. I would have given a higher rating if the meal had been hot!

I visited the Railway bar and restaurant as a social event with a group from church. We visited mid week which meant that it was quiet in the restaurant. This meant we were able to talk easily. Our waitress on the evening was friendly, attentive and very patient with our numerous orders. On the day of our visit a new chef had started and I feel she managed to cater to all of our needs effectively. All the meals came out roughly the same time and were all hot and presented in a pleasing way. I had the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. I also enjoyed the lemon sponge pudding, which was light and tangy.

Visiting the area for the day, we located The Thatched Cottage via Tripadvisor. Booked a table for late lunch. Fortunately a pleasant day as having our furry friend with us we had to sit outside. Our lunch was as good as hoped for; a generous portion of roast lamb, served on a bed of lovely mash, accompanied by red cabbage, yorkshire pud, roasties and apricot stuffing. The sides of creamy blue cheese leeks and trio of carrots, french beans and swede were colourful and tasty. Our meal was served promptly and the half pints of Doom Bar washed our lunch down nicely. Friendly service A thoroughly enjoyable lunch, a good find which we would recommend We may not have booked had it been a cold wet day, delighted it wasn't. Note to TTCR, perhaps look at a doggy owner corner in your bar for diners over the winter months?

Nice family atmosphere, good service and super friendly. We have tried a few things on the menu now and they are all good but particularly enjoyed the Indian taster platter (enough for two), the fish and chips, ham egg and chips, pie of the day and tonight we tried the carvery and what a treat! Looking forward to sampling the Indian Buffet when we get a free Friday.
