We had dinner on a Saturday night. Our daughter loved the chicken and chips. My husband enjoyed the steak and I truly enjoyed the vegetables lasagna ( first time I tried it) The pudding was delicious too. Overall nice meal without breaking your bank.

Visited for Sunday lunch after many recommendations.. clearly we picked a bad day. Assured Yorkshire pud available with roast pork ordered.. 40 mins later told not enough Yorkshire puds available unless order changed to beef.. 5 mins later .. you can have a slice of Yorkshire pud with pork or a whole one with beef.. we choose beef… another ten minutes food arrives .. looks promising… sadly knife won’t even cut through the beef .. potatoes are like bullets… whole plate swimming in brown liquid (assume it’s supposed to be the gravy) and the much coverted Yorkie is a soggy mess. Most certainly not worth £15 a head (which they did refund). Most disappointing.

What a delightful surprise. Soup is roasted pepper and tomato. Both of us have the roasted chicken, potatoes, parsnip/carrot/broccoli/sage dressing and cranberry sauce. Outstanding. Great friendly service although a bit slow on getting the dish but seeing all of it put together --all is forgiven. We feel like Jamie Oliver has been here.

On a visit to Fairford, stopped by for lunch as had seen this pub on the drive through town. Portion sizes of food were huge and very tasty. Staff were very friendly even offering citronella candles for our table outside to help with any wasps that may be buzzing by!! Once seating became available inside, we were then offered an alternative table inside, but we ended up enjoying the outside area. The service of the staff was very good. Was perfect for our visit and would go there again.

Took the missus camping and we wondered into the village of fairford but this lass was less than fair. Walked in to everyone in the village looking at us as we weren’t wearing sketchers or tweed. The barmaid seemed genuinely shocked that we wanted to sample her fine ales before purchasing. It’s not my fault I don’t know what Berry cider tastes like in the sticks. Tbh I think she was annoyed watching the other lovely barmaid earning tips because she knew how to smile. Beer was good though, would recommend berry cider.

Todos comimos Roast Beef y Roast Chicken y Spotted Dick and Custard and Eton Mess.

Situated in this quaint village (church has the oldest stained glass windows in the country) pub provided us with a lovely Sunday lunch. Good menu offering a Sunday roast special and the chips (fries) were awesome. Good selection on menu for most diets and drinking habits. Only a small pub and it is located right next to the road but traffic is minimal, if sitting outside in the walled garden. Love these village pubs!

We visited a couple of weeks ago, having not been for a while. It certainly is a popular place on a summer evening, with the seating area out the front, even if it is onto the road! We sat inside and all enjoyed our meal. There is a limited menu, but that is often an advantage. A couple of us had one of the specials - chicken curry, which was thoroughly enjoyed. What an absolutely lovely place. A friend and I were going to eat at a pub in Lechlade but food wasn't served until 7pm and it was 6.30pm and we were hungry so decided to take a quick drive down the road to Fairford. My friend's sister frequents The Railway often and has raved about the place so we thought we'd give it a go. It was really busy when we arrived but we still managed to find a table and were actually chatting to a local couple sat on the table next to us who were also keen to try the food because they'd heard good things. The young man serving at the bar came over and took our food order which was nice. He was very friendly and polite and a real credit to the place (sorry, didn't catch his name but he was tall with dark hair and working on 18/5/17). I had the chicken avocado burger and my friend had what I think was called the Railway burger. There was so much food on the plate, it was packed! Prices for a main dish were around the £10 mark and you certainly get a decent meal for that price. It's a lovely little pub, very clean, welcoming and friendly. I would say I'd recommend it but I don't want others to pack it out meaning I can't get in to eat. Definitely worth a try.

We have eaten in here a few times now since the change in owner and I can honestly say that we have never been disappointed. The menu is good, some may say its limited but I would rather only have 5 or 6 choices of each course and they are all cooked well than a dozen or more options done mediocre. We have had most of the regular items off the menu and have never had any complaint. However, this Sunday we visited for Sunday dinner and oh my it was worth it. We have lived in the area for several years now and have eaten many a Sunday roast and I can honestly say this is one of the best. Portions were huge with the beef cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. My father in law said the pork was just as good. The yorkshire pudding was homemade and the extra jug of gravy was well received. To top it all off it was just £13, and we felt this was really good value. Other local pubs in the area should take a leaf out of the Railways book for how a roast dinner should be presented. Finally a big shout out to the staff, really friendly with excellent polite service. Thank you for a great meal!

Every fortnight I collect my Daughter from her drama class which is held at a school in Fairford and because it's a long drive back to where I live near Bicester, we've been stopping off at The Railway Inn for a spot of lunch. She has her usual of sausages, chips and beans and woofs the lot down almost without a pause for breath and I sample the delights of what is good British cuisine, nicely cooked using fresh ingredients and keenly priced. The pub itself is very cosy, clean and nicely presented. It's actually owned by the same family that run the Catherine Wheel in Bibury, which is another lovely venue. The food is a delight and I particularly enjoy the lamb's liver served on a bubble & squeak mash with delicately battered, fried onion rings and crispy bacon decoratively placed on top of a well constructed dish. The staff are very attentive and friendly and service is brisk even when they appear to be very busy. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed.

Menu very limited, we chose the Railway Burger which was very nice, Buttermilk Chicken and Fish and Chips. The chicken and fish were tiny portions, not as big as your mobile phone, both came with bowl (more like a ramakin) of home cut chips and honestly if there was a whole potatoes worth I'd be surprised, plus a handful of lettuce. Very disappointing and for £12 Not great value for money. The young lad that eventually served us was lovely and very accommodating. Overall not hugely impressed.

Went for a meal with friends as we were keen to try one of our local pubs as Fairford is lacking decent pub food. Recently undergone renovations and it is well presented inside. Shame about the 'box' plastic balls outside, crying out for some lovely hanging baskets, would really brighten up a building which is rather uninspiring and bring in more passing trade. Back to the reason for our visit - a meal! The menu is small and not the sort of menu that you fancy it all and don't know which to have! Saying that the slow cooked beef brisket was lovely and the other in the party enjoyed the goats cheese tartlet and burger. I hope the menu will be changed on a regular basis as otherwise this will limit our visits. After starters and main courses none of us room for dessert, my husband had fancied the sticky toffee pudding - maybe next time! They do need to get the telephone number undated on everything, I really struggled to get hold of the number and had to contact a local site on Facebook 01285 712368.

I decided to take myself off to the railway as I had heard great things. I was warmly greeted and my drink order taken and chose my table as it was mid week and fairly early in the evening. A food menu followed shortly, even though it's a small menu, nestled within lay something for a Veggiesaurus. After a sensible amount of time a pleasant waitress appeared and took my order. The pub itself is pleasant and has a relaxed atmosphere. The food arrived and I was certainly not disappointed, goats cheese and onion tart with new potatoes and salad, beautifully presented and taste to match. I was offered a dessert menu and chose a coffee and chocolate pot, which arrived accompanied by homemade shortbread, delicious is an understatement. I can recommend a visit to the railway, you won't be disappointed.

The Railway was, IMHO, the best pub in town for a meal and what happened to it under the last owner was a crying shame. Early days but it looks and feels as if it is back to its best.

Grew up going to this pub with my parents. I've seen it change hands over the past decade with definite ups and downs so ignore all the reviews below pre 2016.The place now is as good as it ever was but now with amazing food, speedy service, and nice friendly staff. I will be returning every time I come back to the countryside without a doubt

Went on Tuesday night after air tattoo and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cooking and the relaxed but spot on service we were given. Menu is quite small but I think perfect for the size of the pub. Overall great experience, great atmosphere great pub. Looking forward to going back

We were passing and dropped in for a meal as we'd heard it had changed hands recently. The staff we friendly and welcoming and the pub had an inviting atmosphere. Food was fantastic and we would definitely eat there again. They also have a nice range of draught beers and ales.. Well worth a visit!!!

Visited our local as just changed hand for a drink and then move on. Was so pleased with the whole place stayed all evening and had a meal. Warm welcome with well kept ale follow by different menu choices which was a well prepared food. So good I fact that we went back two nights later just to see if it was a one off and was surprised, had just as good night as before. Hooked

We found this pub by chance on the way back from the RIAT Airshow. It was a lovely Summer evening and everyone was sat outside. We sat next to a family of locals who celebrated "happy Fridays" there every week! The food was good. I had a gourmet cheese burger and chips and my husband had vegetarian Thai curry. The place was buzzing and we would definitely visit again. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. The only down side for me was there was no disabled loo as I have MS.

Visited on 5/9/2015 after passing some weeks earlier .Nice welcome from the landlord , only draw back for me was only one real ale Butcombe at £3.50 (3.8 ) and coke (small bottle ) £2.50 a bit expensive .No food only pizza or curry ordered from a takeaway to eat in the pub !!!!!!!.Nice and clean ,even a fire burning on a cool September evening , a nice pub just for a drink (as they do not seem do food ).

I would not wish to rate this restaurant as I haven't eaten there - I would just advise anyone to avoid this most boring of town. There are lots of good places to eat in far more interesting towns and villages.

This used to be a great pub serving good food but it has now changed hands and is a different place. Read the newer reviews.

Based on the previous reviews we visited the pub only to find the menu comprised of 5 pizzas and there were few tables.Perhaps it excels at real ales.

Sat outside in the sunshine of this very old but tastefully modernised pub. Best in Fairford. Approx 10 minute walk from the Market Square

went there twice last week for food and some drinks while we stayed in the area ,we had a fantastic meal there consisting of garlic prawns and chilli nachos as a starter and we then had a super chicken dish and beautiful mussels, the irish lad managing the place was friendly and made our night as he was quiet entertaining, on our second visit we had the burger and the fish which were awesome, i highly recommend this pub as the welcome was excellent and the food was just as good,

The staff are exceptional in their efforts to make your stay go well. And I want to note the help… more than help… provided by Steve in changing my friend’s flat bicycle tire. She was having some issues getting it done and he fixed it in minutes. Reception, housekeeping, and waitstaff. Excellent. But especial thanks to Steve.

After walking around Cirencester we chose The Crown for dinner. Although disappointed that the Sunday Roasts were sold out, our party enjoyed a Cheeseburger, Chicken and Mushroom Pie and, from the Children’s Menu, a cheese pizza. The burger was a bit spicy, but all were pleased. The Chicken and Mushroom Pie consisted of chicken, mushrooms and gravy baked in a pastry with a crown on top served on whole peas. Delicious! All servings came with French Fries. We are very glad we found the Crown.

We ordered three fish and chips and one sausages and mash. The lack of actual fish and portion size was very disappointing. Not sure what fish it was but it was greasy fkat and soggy. The sausages were overcooked and dry, the mash was tepid and lumpy and the carrots were cold. The two staff were overworked and we didn't complain at the time as they were doing their best. We would not return to this venue and would recommend others eat elsewhere

I've just visited for a fantastic Sunday roast. I had pork and my friend had turkey. Both meals were excellent - really well cooked (vegetables done just right, separate bowl of cauliflower cheese) delicious crackling on my pork, crispy roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding that we were almost too full to eat. They were very busy but the service was excellent - there were enough waiting staff keeping an eye open. It's a lovely pub too. A very pleasant experience, thank you.
