The Railway Inn, Acklington Nr Morpeth in Northumberland

Just had a meal drinks and desert with friends (4 in total) on the 2 for 1 offer definitely worth a visit for what I call good pub grub at good prices. Greeted by very friendly staff member (sorry didn’t remember name)who dealt and provided us throughout our meal with great delivery and friendly service. The food was good just what I want and like at lunchtime. All round pleasant experience and will definitely be back. Thanks again.😊

A good place for a stop over but a bit pricey for what it is. Facilities are clean but outdated. The grass pitches are well maintained but the winter weather had caused some damage as is to be expected. Very friendly staff with useful info. Right next to the road but it does quieten down at night so an issue noise wise. Quiet time is 10pm onwards but this didn't stop people being rather loud as they sporadically checked out at 3am- this of course is not the sites fault though. One grass area has a nice looking wishing well but unfortunately it's full of rubbish. The picnic benches are a nice touch. Overall an okay stay.

After a one and a half hour wait for Sunday lunch (the whole pub waited for this time, if not more. No explanation when ordering food, no apologies when food arrived) a very disappointing burnt lunch arrived. Poor quality food - poorly cooked food, example being: green beans not cooked throughly, red cabbage again too crunchy, mashed potato was not fresh, stuffing was rock hard and knife wouldn’t go through it - it was black on one side, a cut in half Yorkshire pudding (this is how they come apparently, Facebook photos state different!). Gravy and meat (pork) ok. Explained these issues to a member of staff behind the bar - met with rudeness and defensiveness. She told us we should’ve sent the meals back, would we of waited another hour and a half!? Big shame considering we were there for a meal a year and a half ago under the same management and it was brilliant. Feel robbed after spending £63 on three Sunday lunches. Will not be returning.

What better way to cheer up a dreary February than Sunday Lunch with the family at the Railway Inn? Fabulous food - forget ‘pub grub’, this food is in a class of its own! Succulent beef, pork and chicken, Yorkshire puds to die for, fresh veg and delicious gravy. Served in front of a cracking log fire. Simply Fabulous.

A New Chef brings delicious comforting homely food back to the Railway Inn . Perfect on a frosty evening to warm you from the inside out . We opted for a fabulous moist Chicken breast stuffed with Haggis wrapped in bacon strips , drizzled in a creamy Honey and Mustard sauce served with fluffy mashed potatoes , buttery herby earthy carrots and tender broccoli stems . The Lamb shank was equally as delicious wholesome and tender served with plentiful seasonal veg. Really good portions to fill you up . The log burner made the restaurant so appealing like a home from home . A perfect way to spend the evening .

Stayed 23rd Dec - 1st Jan 2025. Paid £35 per night for fully serviced hardstanding. A lovely area to use as a base to go off for days out. Unfortunately the grass pitches were boggy and people got stuck into the mud. I would recommend closing these for the winter to avoid getting stuck. I helped pull out a motor home. Toilets and showers are clean and warm but really old and tatty. There was even a hole next to a sink and radiator was rusty. The dishwash area is outside in the elements and again, looks tatty. Dogs welcome and must be on a lead (fair enough) but no dog toilet area which is inconvenient late at night or early morning. Despite paying over £300 for our stay, the New Year's eve function was £25 each for 1 drink and buffet. We were told there would be singers but another review said karaoke. Needless to say, we said no thanks. I cannot comment on the food but a selection of vegetables and a suspiciously shop bought Yorkshire pudding on the road outside looked like someone didn't like it! Over all, I'd say we paid champagne money for beer facilities! Not value for money, £10 a night too much!

Facilities clean and tidy although a little aged, could do with a bit of tlc, staff very friendly and helpful. Went for the new year but sadly there was no food at the pub when we arrived on the 29th, the chef left Christmas Day according to staff, the new years buffet was excellent but the entertainment was karaoke, not my cup of tea so sadly left early when the kids started screeching, with a new chef and a few pounds spent on facilities it will be a good caravan site

What better cure for autumn blues than lunch at the Railway Inn! A pleasant drive through countryside followed by a fabulous Sunday lunch - a great way to spend a Sunday, but an even better way to cheer up a grey week. Stayed here for two nights with my friend in our camper van… Upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely Saffy, who was extremely friendly and informative.. Lovely clean caravan park, Cosy little pub with nice clean toilets.. Reasonably priced and friendly staff… Whilst sat at the bar we have watched Saffy check other guests in and literally couldn’t help them enough! Five stars for Saffy, 100% will return!

A last minute booking to stay with our Motorhome. Met by Saffy who showed us to our pitch, quite roomy and well kept. I did read negative reviews regarding the shower block but they were ok, certainly didn’t mind using the facilities, we stayed at much worse sites which charged megabucks because of the location. The host was a nice guy and his pub was lively that night as there was a singer performing. If you fancy a nice walk go to the Rigg and Furrow micro brewery open on Friday and Saturdays, 20 min walk away. A good stop off or a longer stay as there’s plenty of things to visit in that area of beautiful Northumberland. Will certainly be back x

Other than only ice cream as a gluten free option the meal was very enjoyable. I'm gluten intolerant and had the salmon. My friend had a very generous meat serving which he enjoyed very much. Have included the regular menu too; they also do a sandwich selection at other. lunchtimes. Dogs welcome.

Stayed here for a weekend camping with my three boys and a friend and his family. Thought the site was really well looked after and peacefull. Peacefull is not something my boys find easy to achieve but staff and fellow campers were more than accommodating and friendly at all times. Would absolutely recommend this site to family's and will be back for sure. Had a meal and drinks in the bar again staff were very friendly met the owner Henry who was also very welcoming. Shower facility's on site were a good standard. Thanks again for a good weekend.

We arrived after a ten hour drive to find a Audi car parked across the two parking spaces for dove cottage I went in to pub to ask who the car belonged to to be told it’s the bosses I asked barmaid could he move it to reply was no. She says park in car park told her full car to unload. Proper crappy attitude. Start unloading car then someone who works in the kitchen then parks her car nearly blocking access to cottage. Bad thing is bed was so uncomfortable we only stayed one night even thou had booked for three bedding was dirty and smelt would not recommend to anyone attitude stinks

Camping, pub and food Absolutely fantastic campsite. Small and intimate with everything you need. The pub has a great atmosphere and the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Henry the owner is hospitable, ensures you have a great time, and fantastic craic. The food is beautiful, I'd particularly recommend the Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit if just passing through or staying for a few nights. Amble and druridge bay are and the doorstop and a great place to make camp.

Back again, but this time in our MoHo Absolutely fantastic, took our grandchildren, they loved it . Owners and staff are brilliant and so is the food . Can recommend the steak pie and the Fish and Chips . It was busy but we expected that during the holidays and nice to see British leisure industry doing well in these hard times , Toilets and showers are basic but they were clean and that’s all that matters. Booked up again and can’t wait to return

We love this site, the owners are so friendly, the pub and food in the restaurant is lovely and the pitches are fantastic. However, the only thing that lets the site down is the shower block, it is in desperate need of modernisation, please please do this and we’d never be away!

Spent 2 nights here as a stopover to Scotland. Saffy met us on arrival and offered us a hardstanding pitch instead of grass as one had become available. Really friendly and went out of her way to help us. The pitch was fully serviced so win win! The pub on site is great, stafd very friendly and food was excellent. Used the bathroom facilities once and although dated were very clean. There was a lot of people on site due to school holidays but no rowdy ones and all appeared to be well supervised. Owner was friendly and wanted to ensure we'd had a good stay. Will certainly be back and thank you for your hospitality!

This place is truly a gem - clean, tidy camp site, level pitches, nicely spaced, and a great base from which to explore the area. But the icing on the cake is the food served in the old, traditional pub - absolutely superb! And friendly staff who really make you feel welcome

Stayed for 3 night we personally found the site ok after reading some reviews that were not kind I worried but I make my own decisions Friendly staff, Enjoyed the food and a pint or two the site filled up on Saturday all respeçtful people around us not any noise apart from the odd dog including mine. Yes the toilet/shower block could do with a refresh but not a concern. I will return.

Lovely teatime meals , served very quickly . Winter warmers to the core , Homemade Vegetable soup with Artisan bread and butter and local Northumbrian Sausages and creamy Mash . So tasty , so filling and oozing favour.

Food and service very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Apparently they have changed hands in last few years and are recovering from lockdown and the previous people who ran it letting stands fall. It’s quiet at lunch time but busy in the evening.

Called in on the off chance of a table for Sunday lunch for two people, dining area was super busy and told could fit us in but maybe a slight wait for food. Sat beside the wood burner, and thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. Food arrived piping hot and plentiful, delicious melt in the mouth pork and equally divine beef. We were so pleased with our spur of the moment decision to dine there. Great service and great “tunes”, will be back but best to book in advance.

Fab Sunday lunch, warm and cosy atmosphere, lovely fire on as it was miserable day, Sunday lunch was absolutely gorgeous, all fresh homemade products,highly recommend

Popped in for Saturday lunch. It was fairly quiet so got seated no problem. Menu was OK. Small or large portions on most mains available. We both went for something off the sandwich menu, fish finger with chips and ham and chutney with fries. Both were excellent and very filling. The fish was perfect and the ham was obviously good quality too, as was the chutney. There was also a small salad served with both which was exceptionally tasty too especially the pickled red onion. 1st class. Great service. Will be back soon. Thank you

A little gem of a place serving the tastiest home cooked food. LOCATION. Rural with plenty of parking plus outside seating. HOSPITALITY. A warm welcome from the owners and staff. Adults, children and dogs all made to feel comfortable. DINING. My review is based on Sunday lunch as we return week after week because it’s special. Choice of meats, roast potatoes, mash, an abundance of veg. The legendary huge Yorkshire pudding and gravy boat. A really generous portion too. All homemade by chef as are the equally delicious desserts. Is it busy? Yer it’s very busy which is the sign of a good pub with a cracking pint. Be sure to book in advance would be my tip.

Fabulous tea on Saturday then even better Sunday lunch can’t fault this place at all , owners and staff are first class , if you haven’t tried it you must caravan site and country cottages both amazing

Lovely Sunday lunch we opted for the Turkey and Well done Roast Beef . The Beef was perfect melt in the mouth, Turkey was moist and buttery with Bacon wrapped Chipolata sausage . Can’t wait for Christmas Day now ! Vegetables were so tasty Rosemary and Thyme Roast Potatoes, Beautiful creamed mash potato and purée Turnip , Seasonal Vegetables of Parsnips, Broccoli, Carrots and Cauliflower. Lashings of tasty Gravy , a huge homemade Yorkshire Pudding . Staff were all lovely and friendly .

Absolutely Awful Experience! We arrived for Sunday lunch to be greeted by Mrs Bucket & Rab C Nesbitt very rude and obnoxious type's with “Rab” being very obviously intoxicated, a rather poor start to lunch but we pressed on! The menu appeared impressive and we ordered!! The hygiene wasn’t exactly impressive the tables were very sticky and the coaster could not be moved appeared to be welded to the table! The food arrived well we were aghast at the slop being served to us and can assure you was Definately more Al a Fart than Al a carte. Frozen vegetables, canned marrow fat peas that had a strange hue of green/grey colour! The meat was of very poor quality, overcooked very tough and inedible accompanied by a frozen Yorkshire pudding! We were dumbfounded and very embarrassed as we had invited some friends to join us! This made McDonald’s look luxurious by comparison! Not sure I buy into these reviews posted on various websites! In our experience it’s not worth your time money or compromising your health for! Overall a very disappointing experience and the rudest people we have ever had the misfortune to encounter! Enter at your own risk stings to mind!! You have been warned!!
