Sales pitched us while having a go at the rail ale - “come have a look at my pub -the railway inn better than the others blah blah See for yourself It was an average chav pub understaffed and one of the staff and the owner was drunk one real ale available Owner kept banging on about real chips we asked for some at 730pm told there was a big group coming so they couldn’t do it - no big group came The opposite effect for us to wasting money in that place is - next rail ale we will avoid going to that place sorry I don’t usually give bad reviews but your happy to diss other nice pubs which are better so you deserve this review.

I went with my partner and son for Christmas day. The food was nice, but massively overpriced. We paid £25 deposit, and £170. We had 2 adult Christmas dinners, 1 Child Christmas Dinner, and we all had chocolate fudge cake for pudding. We paid separately for drinks. I think for 2 courses it was stupidly expensive. Unfortunately, we would not go again. The food served was basically a Sunday roast with pudding, there was nothing spectacular that was worth that much.

We called in here for Sunday lunch, starter was ok you can't go wrong with packet pate, bread and salad. Main course was not good, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots so over cooked touched them with my fork and they turned to mush. Beef thin sliced and tasteless, roast potatoes did not taste home made, tasted like Aunt Bessie's, gravy very thin watery with little specks in looked and tasted instant. Best part of the dinner was the Yorkshire, that also tasted like Aunt Bessie's. Very disapointed

Had heard that the food was supposed to be great, sadly not great, just average. was expectant on ordering the wholetail scampi, only to receive what looked and tasted like frozen supermarket scampi. the gammon however was good. homemade chips were not crispy, overall not a meal that will make us return to the Railway. During the whole time we were there a dog was allowed to roam around unattended, staff stroking and cuddling this dog and then going back to serving, where on earth are your hygiene standards! ...and not everyone is a dog lover.

Went here for a birthday meal (23rd September)waited ages to be brought a menu, finally (after waiting a unacceptable period)we ordered, when the food finally arrived it resembled something you would find squashed by the roadside,a brioche bun the thickness of a piece of A4 paper, medium rare steak full of gristle,I’ve also never seen grey chips, pepper sauce that’s never seen pepper & tasting of cornflour....All told we only paid for one meal.. the chef/manager didn’t seem too interested that we’d had 3 bad & tasteless meals,if you want value & quality avoid this place like the plague.

We gave up on the railway despite it being our local. The venue has had a facelift and so it seems has the menu. We have had a couple of meals recently and have been very impressed with the quality of the food. The service is good but not brilliant and my only gripe is that the drinks aren't great and they are comparatively expensive. We were surprised that a double gin cost 2x the price of a single. We asked the young lady serving us why and she seemed a bit unsure about it. So stick to the meals and a softdrink and you really can't go wrong!

Great atmosphere when the pub is in full swing and now that they got the pool table should attract more business. Food portion are on the big side for me, I can never finish it. They have my favourite gin flavour. But sometimes they get the pudding wrong. That for me is just not on. Service could be better. It’s the small things that makes a difference and if they can just work on those then I can see their potential to rival Castle Inn.

Arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night & pretty quiet. When we had decided what to order I asked whether the chicken burger was proper breast & she then reeled off what they hadn’t got. No burgers of any type, no fish - apparently been busy all week, really? We already had drinks at this point or would probably have left. There was 3 of us so we ordered 1 steak & ale pie, & 2 scampi. She came back & said only 1 scampi left! So 2 steak pies were had. The food was surprisingly good, proper chips, only a pie top but I am ok with that, lovely, tasty filling. Scampi just average. Not the cheapest either but reasonable. 1 had pudding - a bakewell one with custard, this was also nice. If this place makes it I will be surprised, they need to get the ordering right & cut down on the menu choices. Felt quite sorry for the waitress she was obviously embarrassed. Place also felt a bit drab - Sorry we won’t be back.

Not with words but a head gesture. I had a sparkling water, no offer of ice or lemon. We were pointed to our table not shown !!! We sat there and a lovely waitress took our order. We both had gammon and can I say the food was gorgeous and well presented. The plates were cleared away promptly and we were asked if everything was ok. Great service. We visited the "Railway Inn" to eat, and were hoping and expecting to have a much better experience . It's had a fairly chequered past after its revamp a few years ago. First impressions on arrival were poor as none of the many tables were set with even the basic items to give you any impression that they wanted to order food or encourage you to stay. The Menu is basic but fine with the usual popular pub food dishes and the girls serving were all helpful and eagerly waiting any clients to hopefully stay and eat.

Went as a family of 4 for a Sunday afternoon meal, food took considerable time to arrive and when it did it was very disappointing, over cooked dry chicken wrapped in burnt bacon (black) which should have come with a ‘creamy tarragon’ sauce but in reality was a watery puddle, over cooked dry gammon undercooked hard jacket potatoes, greasy lasagne. Totally underwhelming. Told the waiter it wasn’t up to scratch halfway through the meal, nobody bothered to come and resolve the problems. I paid the full bill but I won’t ever bother going again. We visited for dinner on a Friday night, from our boat on the nearby canal. Slightly apprehensive after reading some negative reviews; ignore them. Yes, the new staff are still finding their feet, but I have rarely met any so welcoming and eager to please. The ambience is pleasant, there is plenty of space at comfortable tables, and everything is spotlessly clean. You can choose whether to sit near very soft music, or where it is inaudible. There were 4 different draught beers, and plenty of food choices. We had, between us, garlic mushroom and prawn cocktail starters, veggie taglietelle with tomato and cheese, gammon, scampi and chicken. All the portions were enormous. I wouldn't recommend a starter as well as main course, unless you have an exceptional appetite. We couldn't manage desserts. Our server was helpful, polite and prompt. She returned at the right intervals to check we were enjoying our food. The prices were reasonable. We noticed they had quiz night on Thursdays, but we had missed it. Highly recommended.

We came here as a group of around 20 for our annual family Christmas meal recently. We have come here for the last few Christmas', but this year was very disappointing. Upon arrival we found that the tables had been mixed up with another big group and we were met with '80' confetti all over the tables. Apparently we couldn't be swapped so we had to make do with a much smaller space. The night was just mistake after mistake. MOST of the staff were quite apologetic about the numerous mistakes that were made. Desserts came out cold, drinks had to be asked for at least twice, got asked if we wanted sauce half way through our mains, the children's desserts came out a LONG time after ours (after reminding staff twice). The worst was when someone in our group was asked by a Waiter what was on the plate that he was holding!!! Honestly the list is endless and that's only naming a few. The members of staff didn't seem to communicate with each other at all and didn't really seem to care if we were happy or not. Such a shame as members of our family travelled over 4 hours especially for this meal and we paid quite a lot of money and we were let down. Most of us really enjoyed the food and enjoyed each other's company and they were the only positives really. The Manager was made aware of the issues when we paid, but we did feel very disheartened by the whole situation. It's apparent that this place can't cope with a busy restaurant (or don't have enough staff?). Unfortunately, after this we won't be returning again for our annual meal and will be going elsewhere.

The staff were lovely and friendly and it was a nice atmosphere. The only reason I didn't give The Railway Inn is because I felt the waitress came over way too much to collect plates - as if they had a shortage! Have been here a few times for food, it is nice but I would say overpriced. For some reason it always seems to have no customers joining you for food and maybe this is the reason why. Constructive criticism would include to make portion sizes bigger to make it worth the money. However when I came for the 8.95 roast dinner it was lovely and I couldn't fault it! I would like to add that staff did look a bit confused and it seems to me like they do need to improve their customer service skills as a whole. But apart from that, nice place to eat.

Good portions and lovely homemade food (stuffing was superb!) however, the whole experience was made better by our bar man and waiter Rani. 5* customer service and the best in the business by miles. Thank you Rani for your continued impeccable service, absolute star

We called here last Thursday for evening meal. Initially staff seemed friendly. My husband had steak & ale pie.I had risotto. Both meals had far to much salt in them. When we went to pay at the bar there was a customer complaining about his meal. The bar tender told us the price and shoved a saucer n our direction then focused his attention on a staff member. He didn't ask if our meal was ok or thanks for paying. We both said goodbye and got no response. Quite rude of him we thought. May return for drinks but definitely not food.

well overpriced and portion sizes are small plus pudding at £6.00 or above really has put us off going again--on the up side the pub itself is very attractive and well located for the canal.

Really nice staff here but ohhhhh! What has happened with the food? 4 adults and 3 children ordered Sunday lunch. When the food came I asked the waiter if there had been an error as it looked as if the adults had been given a child's meal. The waiter looked at the meal and said that he would ask the 'chef?' Came back and said that we had been given an adult roast. I pointed out that there was only half, yes half!, a slice of beef and my wife had a paltry slice of pork with no yorkshire pudding. We were told that this was normal! Really? Well bye bye. Plenty of much better eateries in the local area.

We visited the Railway on Sunday late afternoon/early evening. The restaurant was fairly quiet at that time of day. We placed our order for drinks and food. The drinks were wrong but they offered to correct this on the house. The meals were good. The steak was very tender however we weren't keen on the chips, overcooked. We decided to order desserts. We got fed up of waiting to order so grabbed one of the dessert boards ourselves. Then waited ages for someone to take our order. Eventually got served, desserts were delicious so worth the wait "probably". The staff were pleasant but it seemed disorganised as there were a lot of them in and out of the kitchen while a person who seemed to be in charge spent a long time chatting at the bar. Disappointing as we had eaten there many times before without any problem. We paid at the bar on our way out as we didn't want to wait again for the bill.

We went on spec on Sunday teatime, not busy at all, we were shown to a table then waited for drinks order ...and waited and waited so I went to the bar myself !! Eventually the foreign chap came back when I had half a pint left, took our food order, I had roast beef which was bit chewy swimming in salty packet gravy on mountain of mash, veg and 2 measly roasties, my partner had salmon which was swimming in water from the broccoli , plates cleared , no puddings offered so paid and left. The owner was seen drinking in the bar, maybe he should be a bit more hands on and sort his staff out as it was pretty dire, or maybe he should take a look down the road where competitors are turning punters away and see how it's done.

Visited with family. Although what we got was tasty there wasn't much of it for what they charge. Very few chips with my kebab etc. Pudding menu was very poor with very few choices, paid almost £6 for a bowl of ice cream, which was really only 3 scoops on a saucer. Not sure we'll be there again for a while. Staff very nice though.

The final day of our week cruising the canal and we'd moored up here to be within a short cruise the next morning to take the boat back. Also chose this spot as there were two nearby pubs and one of our party decided this offered the better menu choice. It was around 7pm on a Friday evening when we arrived and whilst they were quite busy at the bar, there were a number of tables available and we were offered a choice of where we'd like to sit.A nice, friendly waitress took our drinks orders though we needed a sample or two of their rather nice real ales before we selected our drinks. A little while later the meals arrived and all were rather good. Whilst I enjoyed a steak and ale pie, the ladies had a chicken dish and our son enjoyed the lasagne. We asked for the desert menus and a different waitress brought us the menus but these didn't have any deserts included. One of the other staff appeared and explained it was her first day and then brought the desert menu over. No harm done and she was most apologetic.Unfortunately there was nothing on the menu that appealed to me but everyone else chose something and were pleased with their selections.Overall a pleasant last meal for our holiday.

We visited for early doors dinner on a Sunday - a notoriously difficult time to find anywhere that serves food - because our friends had a 2 hour journey home & work on Monday. In the past we've struggled because places either just serve Sunday lunch and then close or they have a gap in service until later in the evening. There was a good choice on the menu & everyone had something different for their main. Portion sizes were sensible enough for us to be able to have a pudding. These were very generous and yummy too. We finished with a sharing cheese plate. It was OK but for our cheese munchers lacked imagination - no blue, and a very mild cheddar. However, there was respect for the chutney pot. Overall it was very good and our visitors were suitably fortified for their journey. The staff were brilliant - they were knowledgeable about the menu and chatted while they served us which we really appreciated. Our visitors are looking for a quick return and another visit!

The Railway Inn is in a way a quintessential British pub and restaurant- friendly, laid back and, when we went, a touch eccentric. Neither the menu nor wine list seemed to relate to what was actually available- but the venison was a perfectly acceptable alternative to the lamb, and the Malbec adequately replaced the vanished Pinot Noir. Our French waiter was chatty. He kindly turned down the intrusive music. Overall it was fun and not at all as expensive as some have suggested. We enjoyed ourselves.

We visited this pub when moored on the nearby canal - three people and a dog. All were made welcome, and we enjoyed lunch. The menu is fairly typical pub fare, but good all the same. Beer was from a local micro brewery - Front Row Brewing, and very good.

We went as a group of 12 for a birthday, three generation's worth. They were very good with the booking and the table was nice and there is a lot of space, so as a group you don't feel that you are annoying everyone else. The food was okay, no more than that. But for the rest I'd agree with a lot of other comments. The staff were nice but it was all a bit chaotic. Service was very slow, although we didn't actually mind as we were chatting. Despite being excruciatingly clear with our orders they still got them wrong. We just went with what we were given. So basically it is okay as a place to eat if you are a group. No more no less. If you were not a group who had a lot to chat about whilst waiting the slow service would be pretty annoying. It was not busy whilst we were there, so the dopey service was not because of this.

What a great pub , welcomed by Paula , 40 + of us descended on her and her team for a pre wedding drink , which turned into everyone ordering food , the poor guy in the kitchen was run ragged , the food was good the drinks were reasonable for Knutsford . Thanks a lot you were all brilliant !

Cheap beer but that's about it. Only pub I know where you have to queue in an orderly line to get to the bar! Can't comment on the food

We attended the festival of transport in Audlem and called in for breakfast at the Bridge Inn. The food was excellent, big portions and very good value with coffee or tea refills. The staff were very attentive and friendly and we will definitely go back again when we are in the area.
