A Tuesday night in January where other pubs in nearby villages are closed it was a joy to find this one open. A great traditional pub with a nice warm fire, friendly welcome, reasonable drinks, what more do you want? Deserves to be supported. Well done!

Seems not open weekdays lunchtimes and right by rspb reserves where they have a lot of visitors - what a waste of time. Looks like it needs a makeover too.

We love this pub! They always have good beer and the staff are always friendly. No food although they occasionally have cheese or ham rolls available. Great sitting outside watching the world go by with a nice pint. The toilets are a bit of an experience being rather old-fashioned with cobwebs, but they are part of the experience!

We normally pop in here after visiting RSPB Ham Wall. But not today. Some bright spark decided it was a good idea to have a DJ blaring extremely loud music which reverberated all over the neighbouring area. It was so loud, it vibrated through the ground. On speaking to the staff at RSPB Ham Wall, they stated the same thing had happened the previous day and it was non-stop. The Landlord needs to give his head a wobble.

We enjoyed drinks in the pub's apple orchard - excellent local cider (from Roger Wilkins) and delicious apple juice. This is an ideal place for refreshments after a walk in the nearby wetlands nature reserves, Ham Wall and Shapwick. Disaster struck when I found my car had a flat battery but the staff were so helpful and friendly, and soon got me going with jump leads. Many thanks to Karen and Ray! https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g8342700-d8333388-r859049457-The_Railway_Inn-Meare_Somerset_England.html#

My partner was the only person in the busy pub wearing a mask. Bar staff not wearing masks. We weren't asked for contact details at all. No paper towels in the disgusting toilet. No social distancing at all. Tables still set very close to each other. No table service so you need to go to the bar even if you want to sit outside. Bar staff acting as if Covid-19 doesn't exist.Absolute nightmare. Apalling place. If I could give zero points I would.

We called in after visiting the wetlands centre. Plenty of parking. Warm and friendly welcome. Good choice of beer and ciders. Food served promptly. If you wanted to show a visitor from another country what a traditional West Country pub was like this would be the place to bring them.

An absolute rural gem. Called in here after a walk in the Somerset levels. Try the local Wilkins cider a bargain at £2.30 a pint!! I relaxed on a summers afternoon in the lovely peaceful garden next to the pub. Word of warning though dogs are not allowed in the pub so best visit on a warm summers day with your four legged friend.

This pub is a bit off the beaten track but it is a place to stop if you have been visiting the Ham Wall nature reserve to watch the Starling murmurations for example. We go to the levels regularly and stop off here occasionally for a pint. There is not a massive choice of beer etc., and no hot food on the menu. They certainly don't cater for vegans, but there is always a friendly local to chat with at the bar. There are occasionally events too...tractor rallies, music sessions on Sunday lunchtimes in the summer, and a beer garden to sit in if the weather is good.

Down on the Somerset Levels this is a proper no frills English pub!In a way it’s quite quaint with a strange mixture of well worn comfy furniture but there’s a good choice of drinks which is the main reason for visiting.I think food offerings are bar snacks and a few filled rolls but essentially it’s a pub.

How refreshing to find a real, rural, local pub which hasn't tarted up for the tourists. A couple of decent ales, a friendly barman and the landlord (Mick, Mike, or Arkwright?!) is a real character. And for railway enthusiasts, it is on the track bed of the old Somerset & Dorset branch line to Burnham-on-Sea

Great little pub tucked away on the Somerset Levels. Has basic bar snacks & rolls alongside good beers & local ciders. Amazing garden out the back of the pub. Hosts occasional live music events on Sundays plus Tractor rallies etc. Only downside is that dogs are not allowed in the pub, although they are in the garden.

We rented a big house in the village and went to this local pub for New Years Eve, there was 10 of us and we were made to feel so welcome by the locals , we danced, sang and drank with them until the early hours . The entertainment was absolutely brilliant, talk about a variety of music! All of us said it couldn’t have been better . The manager and the owners were also lovely and we would all visit again if in the area

We walked to this little pub which is a couple of miles out of Ashcott. It very close to Ham Wall which is very popular with Twitters (bird watchers), and while this was busy. The pub was quite maybe because the only food was cheese toastie or the toilet are awful, however the beer was great and looked after. They have a large area that could be used for camping however this is bit overrun. Got the impression that the owner really want an easy life.

I was traveling down south through Frome and stopped here a bit late in the evening. I was quiet lost with finding out everything I needed for the next day. I was given plenty of information and help. The owner of this pub is an absolute Gentleman, The pub atmosphere is very friendly concidering its a small area and many lsmaller areas are not favorable to strangers. I'm looking forward to going back again.

I've never been impressed with the sound quality at this venue, but last night's Afro Celt gig was a new low. The sound system totally failed to project into the hall and had no presence. It's flat and lacks any dimension. You'd need to be right in front of the stage to feel any sense of immersion. Even then, the overall quality is low. To make matters worse, the sound engineering was shocking, with fiddles, pipes, flute, whistle so far bant in the mix that they could barely be heard at times. A really unprofessional event that left me feeling like I'd been ripped off. I'd be really reluctant to see a band here again. Frome deserves better.

Had a delicious Fathers Day family Sunday lunch in lovely surroundings. The Sunday lunch was gorgeous and the boys had deserts which looked really good. Cocktails are the best in County Durham. Worth a visit just for a drink. The staff were great and kept coming over asking if we wanted more drinks, extra gravy or sauces. We couldn’t fault them. Cannot understand the negative reviews as we have always had first class service, amazing food and drinks. Would definitely recommend and I am hard to please. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
