The Railway in Sefton

Was in town from Nottingham to help with some arrangements for an upcoming event. It's unfortunate that there was a mixup with our food as I had high hopes this place would shine. It's a lovely place, wasn't too busy and friendly staff. Ample parking and convient right next to the railway station.

Good food and at a very reasonable price for the area, we ordered a mixed grill that cost about €20 and everything was very delicious, full for two people, they also have high quality beers. Advisable

I came here with my family and as soon as you walk in you feel the relaxed, welcoming and friendly atmosphere, staff were efficient and communication was great. I'm not normally a fan of a pub Sunday roast but I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was and amazed the roast potatoes where soft and crispy and not rock hard and cardboardy like l have had elsewhere. Definitely go back and recommend eating and drinking here.

A pleasent enough establishment,clean with polite efficient staff. Reasonably priced with a varied menu. In essence it is a Weatherspoons for the middle class!

First visit to the pub. Good selection of beers, nice furniture and friendly staff. Had haddock, chips, peas, as with other establishments, mushy pas could and should have been in a separate pot, not on the plate. Very handy for the train, 1 minutes walk. Would visit again.

Well, on Friday night for a few drinks with friends. I had a great time small bite to eat from the starters once again a great experience in the Railway.

Quite a nice pub and dog friendly too . Unfortunately one of the worst pints of Guinness that I have ever had.

Overall we enjoyed our visit especially as we had a voucher for 50% off main meals. We had booked a table by the fireplace but on arrival we were unable to find our reserved table. We asked the staff about this to be told people come in and take the reserve sign away and sit on the table. I am not sure how your staff can prevent this happening. We therefore had to sit at a table we would not have chosen as it was very busy. Unfortunately one of us wanted Hand carved ham which was not available so having entered our meals and drinks on the till we had to cancel the transaction as we had to check back with the person at the table for an alternative. Could any items not available be listed and pinned to the menu on the tables. The staff were good and the atmosphere was good. Also the food so we will be coming again.

Had lunch Saturday with my daughter was excellent went the following day for a Sunday roast was gorgeous and will be taking my Grandaughter tomorrow for a roast. Our local pub and are there a lot but lately good been great .

We had a lovely meal and excellent service from Nic who was friendly and helpful. She made sure we had a suitable table for my elderly mum and she looked after us through out the meal. She went above and beyond.Thank you for marvellous evening.

Such a great place! I don't know where to start and where to finish and the desserts were soooo good. I recommend this place to everyone.

It was excellent xmas 3 courses food wonderful and fab service happy to bring my mom from Worcester we enjoyed xmas dinner in ur beautiful cosy fires inside people lovely will come again xx

Came in for the festive manual on Wednesday last week the festive manual was brilliant. The turkey was cooked to perfection and the Bar stuff were amazing.

My Husband & I were greeted by friendly, pleasant staff (Ste & Alex), we chose one of the unreserved tables by cosy fire, had a few drinks & ordered our Lovely Sunday Roasts (Rib of Beef & Gammon) 😋😋; neither of us like Yorkshire Pudding & I prefer gravy on the side, both were adhered to as per request

Six of us had our Christmas lunch at the Railway today. I had the festive burger which was fabulous. The service was very good, a slight mix up with our orders was sorted quickly, without fuss and much to our satisfaction. My friends enjoyed their meals too - Grilled Seabass Fillets, Hand-carved Turkey with all the trimmings and Turkey & Pancetta Pie. A very enjoyable lunch in a cosy and friendly atmosphere.

Had late lunch here Tuesday. Food was lovely (Burger/Fries and Haddock/chips/peas) and service was great. Busy little pub with a vibrant atmosphere.

Came here at the end of our walk. It's a very convenient place for a pint as it is right next to the railway station where we get the train home. I have eaten here a few times on previous occasions and always got the 3 course daytime special they do for around £12 which is excellent value for money. Today we had the Fisherman's Catch and Sticky Toffee pudding. They also have a reasonable range of beers.

Friendly staff and warm welcome. Would definitely come back and bring my friends. Came in on Wednesday and was greeted by a youngish man who which then served us our drinks, I had a Camden hells which was pricey but was worth every penny Thank you again for another wonderful visit

Called in today for a pint with friends ordered a pint of Wainrights which tasted ok but did not smell right when I took it back to the bar to ask if it could be changed the barman said it was a new barrel and that,s how Wainright tastes I said it was the smell not taste that was an issue and he told me I would have to pay for another pint. I left the beer on the bar and we left the pub. Poor service, poor beer.

Good selection of beers plus good food. Staff are friendly and good at their jobs. Good venue for lunch.

Food and service were alright. They have vegetarian and plant based options marked clearly on the menu. We came here for a late lunch, and there was not much of a crowd, nor was it completely empty either. The place is dog friendly, but they request that the dogs be well behaved. They also take reservations.

Booked a table, on line, for 20-15 on New Year's Eve only to find out, with a sign on the till, that the kitchen closes at 21-00 and the bar closes at 22-00. Absolutely disgusted.

Amazing food atmosphere and staff. I am planning to go again in two weeks. Regular weekly quiz with great prizes and atmosphere. Can’t praise the staff enough from the chefs to our waitress. Nothing is too much trouble. I definitely recommend it for family gatherings canine friends included. Awesome 😎

Nice food and drink but a damper was put on the whole experience when our 6 year old friends daughter touched the buttons on the fruit machine and was told off , not going back again.

Great pub to have some drinks and good food with friends and family. Right by the train station with a good selection of real ales and lagers. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Really has to be the worst meal I've had for quite some time. A handful of lukewarm hard chips, a few tiny pieces of scampi and a spoon full of garden peas just thrown on a plate. The service was OK, but I think I'll stick to the other place in Formby... the food there is so much better and much cheaper

Good service from entering, Staff knowledge was really good and done with the right attitude, not the misery face as in other establishments. Food was hot and cooked to perfection. Haven't been to the Railway since we moved out of Formby in 2015. It will be worth the 5 miles to go back, which is what we will do.

The staff are fantastic very accomodating and friendly.the pub waa extremely busy but the staff served quickly and professionally with smiles . Highly recomend

Wetherspoons quality food; microwave specials. The red onion on my salad looked like it had been served on multiple plates over multiple years. I didn't eat it so if you go maybe you will get the exact same piece!

This was my second visit to this establishment! Whilst my first visit the food was 5⭐ this time around I was struggling to do the same so didn't. The food was good and I ate it all, but for pub grub it felt a little too processed. Service was young adults. I didn't see or was served by a service career person.

Very nice place, but it was one of those occasions when everyone else's food seemed better than mine! I had the fish and chips and it was ok, but not great. Everyone else really enjoyed their food though, so it was a very enjoyable lunch. Nice pub and great staff.

Clean friendly..good real ale choice

Been there with a few family members a couple of times in last 12 months and have always enjoyed my visits. A nice comfortable pub with good welcoming and helpful service and a good varied menu. Quality food at good value. The set menus and various offers are very good value for money. Clean and excellent parking facilities too.

Visited with friends for food and drinks. Can never fault the team whenever I come I always feel welcome and there is always a great selection of drinks and the food is always great.

I ordered the loaded sharing nachos for my self with the chicken on… however LOADED was a bit of an over statement. I had 6 small strips of chicken and the cheese sauce and gravy was very sparse and only on the top layer. I asked for more sauce and they wanted to charge me more for it. So I was left with a half of a bowl of dry nachos. Not great service at all. My sons meal was fine…

Went to the railway last Friday for drinks always enjoy our nights in there. Especially quiz nights the staff are always ready to help and make you feel welcome

Came in for a drink and was welcomed by the staff. It was hard to choose between the great range of cask ale but had to go with the trusty landlord Definitely come back with the misses next time

Excellent place! Came with my 2 daughters, all the staff were so attentive and knowledgeable. I had the chicken bacon and avocado salad , it was great portion size and very tasty. My children had the kids nuggets and brownie sundae and they loved them . Great place to visit will definitely be back soon

Burger & chips eventually come but both cold, vegan salad missing half the ingredients, both returned & returned salad still missing half the ingredients topped up with sweet corn. Burger was warmer but only lettuce & cheese on bun got a refund thanks to the manger

Had a table reserved for 8 people in an ideal position by the window. Food, drink and service were all excellent. So good that we were there from 1.30 to 4.45!

Lovely wee pub in Formby spookily enough right by the railway. Nice beer, friendly atmosphere. Can’t fault it really.

The food was tasty and excellent and the female member of staff was welcoming and happy and definitely recommend the food but the male member of staff serving behind the bar could be more happy when serving customers

Good points. Buckets of atmosphere, popular, plenty of seating room inside, good service, lots of food choices. Convenient location for Formby railway station. Bad points. Music a little too loud (but it was a good choice of music). Can’t leave your car outside (although there’s plenty of room).

Called in after a walk through formby pinewoods, picked our own table food was very mediocre nothing that makes us want to go back, service was awful, bar staff couldn't place order correctly, the starter knife had an old piece of cabbage on it that had been clearly through the dishwasher so at least it was clean cabbage but still... urghh!!! & the waitress couldn't crack a smile, no check backs on the food even when taking the starter plates away no 'how was everything ' nothing!! No conversation whatsoever, she could do with a training course in hospitality, put our main plates down with one word 'enjoy' sounded more like an order or else!! Again took plates away with not a question of was everything ok no service with a smile quite disappointed

It’s so good to see The Railway as busy as it has become. We have been coming to The Railway for many years and can definitely say the standards and food quality are as good as they have ever been. We often meet up here before we head off into Liverpool, and it’s location next to the railway station is as good as you can get

Stopped by after a busy day in liverpool for a quick bite to eat and a few drinks. It was good to see the fires on giving the pub a warm feeling. We had a voucher for 33% off food so couldn’t believe how good value for money it was. The staff were rushed but hassles it well and the food was served quickly. Looking forward to being able to use the beer garden once the weather warms up. 5*
