Fab stuff! Lexi is fab. Atmosphere was lovely and staff are very helpful. Quiz was very fun and would recommend going with friends

Waited over an hour for food. The food arrived cold and things were missing from meals. When asked about it, they mentioned they had run out but nothing was mentioned. Clearly not enough staff in the kitchen as several people had complained about the wait and food quality.

Went for Christmas day meal and initially was going ok apart from not taking any drinks order for ages after saying they will be back shortly. Then serving dessert with no cutlery, had to go and ask as they keep them secured in the back! Christmas pudding was like it was microwaved too long and gone like toffee, had to change it which again took ages. Chock brownie served with custard AND ice cream!! Not the baileys sauce advertised. Then to finish no one came near to ask us and had to go and ask twice. Cant have coffee as machine was temperamental. Eventually got served. 2 1/2 hours for a meal! Very disappointed considering the £71 a head charge. And milk served in a tiny cup that doesn’t pour!! Just why. Edit: in response, we booked 5 days before. Your server admitted you didnt picknit up until the day. When you have ask twice because you have been forgotten thats nothing to do with last minute especially as we were the only people eating for nearly an hour. The website/email didnt ask for preorder and either way we had the food that was from a fairly narrow menu and was apparently plentiful.

Went crosshouse Christmas Eve for drinks although you’d never known it was Christmas music that low could hardly hear it not enough staff took ages to get served staff forgot one of our drinks had to wait again then ordered a single vodka coke came in a giant coke glass filled to the top. With mixer absolute joke sorry didn’t spend our Christmas Eve somewhere else won’t be rushing back

Wonderful atmosphere at the Cross, friendly crowd and always feel welcome. Tasty food at a good price too - would 100% recommend!

Haven’t been to many places for food in Formby so wasn’t sure what the cross house was gonna be like, but when I got there haven’t got a bad word about my experience. Just needed somewhere to eat and refresh last week and glad I chose here. Food was great didn’t wait long and the staff and atmosphere was very friendly and vibrant. There was a poker game on or somethin with a few tables and was busy but staff still managed and were very helpful with questions and service. I carnt remember managers name but was very friendly an answered any questions I had. Top bloke. Big car park and had a lot of spaces so no worry there. And also had the football on. Food was great and hot would highly recommend get down 👍

Used to enjoy coming to the Cross House. Went for a quick munch with the kids. Nearly £40 for two lunch specials, a burger and a pint. Over 30 minutes to arrive even though pub empty. Food was an absolute disgrace. Kid's steak wrap/chiabatta were raw, and one just fat and gristle. The other really tough meat. Sent one back. My burger was below average and £14! Server was fine and apologetic, but I'm shocked this crap was actually sent out. Couple next to us also had issues. Lost a customer.

The Cross House Inn is a gem of a pub. The pub exudes character and a warm atmosphere with friendly staff waiting to take your orders. The food is good quality and brought quickly with the staff attentive to the wants and needs of the patrons. The drinks are on the expensive side, however it is worth the extra cost for the atmosphere. The pub also benefits from a vibrant poker scene attentively ran by the assistant manager of the pub. if you can avoid a slow roll you will definitely have a great time at the Cross House.

I went in on Monday night with some friends and have something to eat and drink but when we got there we saw that they were playing poker and we all love to play a bit of poker so we spoke to some of them and asked about it and they said that it’s a tournament with red tooth and that it was £15 to enter and we all were down to play and everyone there playing were really nice and the bar staff are top notch and fair price for the area. Thank you all and we will be back on Monday to play again

A great local pub. Warm, friendly and welcoming environment with great staff. Food is top notch and great value, good selection of drinks on offer. Plenty of screens to watch live sport and If you like a good, affordable game of poker for players of all abilities then the games here are definitely recommended!

Nice pub with a good selection of beers on tap but not enough staff. Arrived last night to quite a long line at the bar already, people Infront of me moaning about how long they're been waiting, only 2 staff serving. I stood there for 10 minutes and still had 5 people still Infront of me so I left and went to another place in the village, walked straight to the bar and got served. At such a busy time of the year and with the match, on you'd think they'd have more staff on.

Went here for the first time last Saturday with family, visiting the area. We all enjoyed our food. My burger was juicy and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their food. No other Greene King establishment has come close to the taste of the food here and very few pubs have met this level of friendly service and atmosphere we experienced. I would highly recommend this place. Great food, great people 👍

Selection of burgers here are really quiet simply amazing. Tonight I ordered a new burger which has been added to the menu which was called the ‘hot roast chicken burger’ and I ordered jacket potato and onion rings to accompany it. The burger was oozing with a beautiful taste of honey, topped with cheese and buttermilk chicken which was a very good size. The burger came in a fresh bun and each time I took a bite I found myself eating more. Loved it. The place has also featured burgers of the month which are also moth watering. This month it’s Texan Smokey BBQ and Bonfire chicken. The price is really reasonable too and it came with a soft drink for £11. My food came out fresh, fast with great service. Thank you!

A lovely place to have a drink or a meal. We had the small plates and a few drinks. Nice atmosphere and lots of seating. The staff were very pleasant and made sure we were catered for. Even let us stay overnight in our Motorhome. A great pub stopover if visiting Formby.

Waited for our food over an hour and when it arrived it was luke warm at best :(. Spoke to the manager who apologised, remade the food that was going cold and gave us a full refund. Not a great experience overall, but was grateful for the manager doing his best to correct it.

1hr 15 wait for food, arrived just about warm and undercooked. Manager did return food to kitchen for fresh plate and offered full refund.

The worst experience eating out. They had nothing on the menu, nothing we wanted to drink, dirty tables, no cutlery, having to constantly check where drinks and food were. Chicken in breadcrumbs even though the menu didn't specify, asked for no salad or mayo - got salad and mayo, cold overdone chips (well the pointy small 3cm corner pieces), dirty glasses. What an horrible place to eat. I recommend trying somewhere else. Edit: The food you didn't have. Vegetables with kids meals, fruit kebabs (apparently noone orders them so you don't bother staff said). No fresh orange juice. You only had 2 out of 6 dessert. I don't understand why you feel the need to lie in your reply. Buttermilk chicken, I've just checked and 4/5 have no coating. If you ask for Crispy or Battered buttermilk then it has a coating. Ive been to many Greeneking restaurants, they've mostly been great. This one was way below par, way way below.

This is a very well run place ,they lady who took OUR order was talking to US like we had known each other from school , fantastic atmoshere and food was great. Sam.

After waiting an hour this was a sad state of a roast dinner. I appreciate staff only have prepared food to use but brown congealed cauliflower cheese and dried meat and uncut able broccoli was that disappointing I left my wine . 4 roast 2 glasses of wine 3 soft dinks. Hope you manage to address these problems .

Great gastro pub. Called in for an afternoon lunch with family. The food and service was excellent. It was on a Tuesday so I took advantage of the seniors menu and had a 3 course meal for £7.99 😊 It just couldn't be faulted

Came to the Cross House for a special lunch for my 60th birthday today, but while the food was nice, it took the best part of an hour and a half and two complaints to get it, which is unacceptable to assemble two flatbreads. We had obviously over complicated things by asking for chips and some onion rings. We felt sorry for the server because whatever was wrong in the kitchen, he was having to apologise to everyone. At one point "Robert DeNiro's Waiting" came over the sound system. We knew the feeling, Robert!

I haven't been here in years so thought I'd try lunch out on a Tuesday. Great disabled parking, at least 6 spaces however to the front entrance is on a slight incline designed for wheelchairs which is great but it's a good 40 ft to the entrance BUT there was lots of outdoor space with seating in the front. It was a pay at the bar service. I went for the three side plates for £15 so I ordered pulled pork tacos, 8 chicken strips with east coast hot sauce and BBQ cheese fries. I also ordered half a peroni instead of a bottle as the waitress recommended so thank you for the tip. Bill came to £18.15 so the half was £3.15. the place is nicely decorated and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food came out about 20 mins later. The tacos were good but you didn't get alot of filling if I'm honest, the BBQ cheese fries were nice and the chicken strips were nicely cooked and the hot sauce was abit spicy but nothing serious but it wasn't the sweet kind of hot. Admittedly I wasn't full up so I ordered the jam Roly poly with custard and a huge cappuccino for afters which came to £5.69 for the dessert and £2.59 for the coffee. The dessert was really nice. Nice meal out so I would recommend.

The cross house is my ‘local’ by distance. I didn’t go often as it was mainly a ‘ladies who lunch’ and regulars pub but a nice pub nonetheless. It had a big overhaul making use of its extensive grounds to create a lot of outdoor space. I finally got round to visiting what should be the best beer garden in Formby. Alas it appears to be a neglected wasteland of filth and empties. Not a single table had been cleared for hours. Literally hour's. Overflowing ash trays, tipped over chairs, litter strewn paving and MOUNTAINS of empty glasses I’m surprised they had enough left to serve anyone. This was not a busy night but it was busy enough to justify a glass collectors wage. Inside was cleaner and we saw our first glass collector who I assume was agoraphobic and therefore unable to collect the 100s of glasses outside in the post apocalyptic wasteland. The interior design was odd. Really bright lighting and in places it was a nightclub with blue led lights in other places it was a traditional pub then in other areas it was a 70 kitsch bar. A really odd mix that could be called eclectic but with the flood lighting it just looked disjointed. Such a missed opportunity- I won’t be rushing back there are better options nearby even in a town with limited options.

Food was really nice. Portions are smaller than they used to be though. I love that this place caters to dog owners, it's a great place to come and grab a drink and some food after a long dog walk.

Visited today after a long walk down at the beach. Big spacious pub with a cosy atmosphere Food was great compliments to the chef. Only downside is it was a bit quiet not too sure as to why as it’s a lovely place to visit with friendly staff. Dog friendly as well

Service was very slow, 80 mins to get out our meals and when the food arrived some bits were cold and some plates had items missing. On the plus side the car park is large and there is plenty of outside and inside seating.

Unfortunately would not visit here again waiting over a hour for food on a quiet day and then it came out and cold. The pot of gravy had been made with cold water! The pub was not very clean when you start looking at things.

This is a largish pub with a good sized CarPark. A ramp is provided for disabled access. This is a tricky review as I think the management really want to succeed but are in a dilemma. The food was Ok being well cooked and presented but it lacked anything special. However it took a long time for the meals to come. There were some problems with the WC plumbing on the evening we visited which I'm sure will be sorted out. I get the feeling if they had more staff things could improve but they may not yet have enough customers to justify that! I would encourage them to make their meals spectacular as a way forward and to get more help as soon as it can be justified. With local support the Cross House has excellent potential.

After a lovely day at the beach yesterday, we popped in the cross house for tea. Found a table and all decided on fish & chips. We noticed how busy the place was, but the young guy on the bar took our food and drink order professionally and didn’t rush us. The waiting time was around 25 minutes. The food arrived and it was way beyond our expectations! Good sized portions and really tasty. The waiter who served us was very polite and helpful. Will definitely re-visit if in area.

Not the staffs fault at all but the worst experience I have ever had at a pub. Management have failed their staff- they were very very over stretched, stressed and vulnerable to rude members of public who were not understanding (a glass was thrown over the bar). The food took an hour and 20 minutes to arrive and was really not good when it did. Would not recommend for a large group on a Sunday if it’s busy.

I have been to dine in at ‘The Cross House’ Formby on several occasions most recently today. What I have found most interesting about this place is the different areas you are able to socialise and eat. The front of house, front outside part of the pub overlooks the busy village and is very spacious, and the locals are extremely friendly, often stopping to chat and have a quick natter 😊 The staff and management team are very attentive, extremely friendly and I am very impressed with the overall high standard of customer service. The staff work with pace, and are very well trained, extremely professional, polite and courteous. Very endearing and extremely impressive indeed! 😊 I have found they are quick, efficient and always serve with a smile 😁 My favourite choices of food are; the fish chips, the cost effective chicken wraps and their customised chips are really tasty! The chicken wings, tacos and cheesy barbecue chips are very nice indeed and the price is very competitive compared to other places in the area. I was also very impressed by the quality and taste of their food compared to other constabularies in the area which I have dined in; places such as Weatherspoon’s & Emily’s . From my experience I have found the Cross house’s food to be very tasty indeed and of a very high standard and overall quality. I feel that the quality of their food starters, mains and puddings has a definite edge! There is just something about the taste that is unquestionably different. I love the way every single member of staff that has served me has a service with a smile 😀 and their polite manners have resulted in I introducing my friends, acquaintances and work colleagues - who have all expressed that they are grateful for the recommendation. I think in terms of maintenance and general care for the restaurant it is kept extremely clean and well looked after both inside and outside areas! Additionally, I absolutely love 💕 the atmosphere throughout the pub and restaurant eating areas it is very vibrant and relaxed. Both the inside and outside dining areas in the front, and back are kept well, and are serviced and attended to by the staff frequently, which I feel maintains a high standard of service! The outside dining area at the back of the pub has private secluded places (pods) where you can eat and drink. There are also more open parts of the garden, which I really like, especially when the sun ☀️ is shining. However, if you are a none sun worshipper there are also shaded parts of the garden where you can eat or you can chose to eat in a pod which allows you to have more intact private time while you eat, and they are extremely spacious inside which allow for larger groups to eat together. Great idea! 🥳 Inside the atmosphere is very vibrant and the pub televises the match on match days which is great for the sports goers. On Fridays and Saturdays the pubs atmosphere notches right up and becomes very vibrant and the staff seem to take it up a notch or two. They are so vibrant, extremely bubbley and proactive. The pub puts out great vibrant music ready for the weekend and their music choices are is highly appreciated by the all locals, as it adds to a great weekend night and creates great atmosphere 😊 undoubtedly definitely adds to the hustle and bustle within this wonderful place! I will definitely continue to dine here and bring my fiends colleagues to eat with me 💝 Thank you for to ALL the staff at ‘The Cross House’ You all work so very hard and always with a smile. Really great pub, good food and beer served and always a smile from staff. I eat and drink there 3/4 times a week and I never have any complaints.

Do not go! We visited for lunch yesterday and the pub was pretty empty with only a few other tables in ordering food. We ordered a starter, kids meals and 2 main meals. After 35 minutes wait we asked how long the food would be, struggling to understand the delay in an empty pub. The food arrived 5 minutes later, but both our burgers and chips were cold at this point and looked very unappetising. The starter of halloumi fries arrived with our mains for some reason and the lettuce was black and mouldy. I would have just walked out at this point but our 3 year old daughter was starving having waited 45 minutes and her fish and chips was at least piping hot and looked much more appealing than ours. We complained and the waiter was very apologetic, taking our burgers back. A further 15 minutes passed and what I believe to be the same reheated burgers were delivered to us. They were edible and at least hot by this time but overall very poor quality food and service. Dread to think how long you would wait when it is busy! Needless to say, we will never be returning and it was a very disappointing experience where the prices are not cheap to compensate for the poor quality of food and service.

Stopped here for some lunch whilst visiting the beach and national park. I had the fish and chips which was very nice and a big portion. My partner had hunters chicken, which didn't look so good, very small bit of chicken with a peice of bacon and bbq sauce and a few chips. He said it was OK but I get the feeling he was been polite because I was paying. The prices are reasonable and the staff were very friendly.

We held a small Wake with family and friends in a private area of this lovely pub. Everything was excellent. The buffet was delicious and there was so much of it we all took some home. The drink flowed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff ( e.g arranging for lower chairs for those with mobility issues) who also had another larger Wake to deal with and the normal customers. Thank you Simone, Cameron and Matthew for being fabulous and thank you to the manager Ryan who helped so much with the booking.

Food really good for price, service excellent staff very efficient very comfortable setting. Weather not good enough for us to use outside, which looks lovely, only downside wine far too expensive, expect to pay a few pounds extra for cover charge but not as much as we were charged

Never tried the food but it's a great place

Was very disappointed with our roast dinners very small and price was high for the portion we received on our plates. My dog had two children breasts of the dog menu and it looked more appetising than our dinners maybe we should have got something else but will come again as it mite have just been a 1 off 🤦‍♀️

Wow. What a great pub. The landlord, Ryan, runs a great ship here. Food is so nice and is served quickly. The new menu is a huge success. Notable mention to the two young chaps behind the bar, Matty and Callum, who made our experience so much better. Great banter with the pair of them and they really make your visit more enjoyable. My girlfriend liked the pair of them so much I fear she may leave me. Won’t stop me coming back for a cheesy garlic bread again, though.

Stayed overnight in my campervan and had dinner in the pub. I was made very welcome, nice level car park with lots of space. Food is basic pub grub and was served very quickly. There is a convenience store 50m away. Quite close to Crosby beach and the Anthony Gormley sculptures on the beach.

Been here quite Few times for the tapas type lunch, it’s 5 dishes for £21 ( now gone up to £22.50 Menu has changed but still doin the tapas. We get both tacos chicken wings, chicken strips, fries. So disappointed chicken strips changed now bland whole meal was quite cold but we did wait over 30 minutes. Gonna give it a miss for a while

It's just a small walk from the main shops. It was quite empty when we came today for lunch. I had booked beforehand and was told I could take my pick with the seating. I was a bit disappointed that they have now stopped the senior menu that they used to have but apparently it's no longer available. Anyway I ordered the chicken shawarma on naan and it was quite good. Service was good and meals arrived fairly quickly. Reasonable range of Real ales and beers. Good value for money. They have a large beer garden at the front and another one at the rear. The car park is quite large and should have no problem finding a space.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit at The Cross House over the bank holiday weekend. Excellent food and drink with tremendous service. Will be back again soon!

Over an hour wait to be served on Sunday with rock hard beef and 4 roast spuds for the price I was shocked. The beef was inedible an the spuds tasted like they had been sat under the warm light. Safe to say I couldn't eat it and it got sent back. The manager was great though we got a full refund back for all of our meal. Sorry but we definitely won't be returning.

Long wait on food seemed to be short staffed however Matty our server work so hard running around trying really hard to resolve any issues... he is a credit to this place and deserves recognition 👏

Shocking service. Left after an hour waiting for second half of meal. Requested refund. Excuse that was given was " I went on my break" really so everything comes to a stand still because a member of staff went on his break. I won't be going back.

The cross house used to be a regular drinking station for me but haven’t been in years. Took some friends for a bite to eat to see how the place has changed. Pleased to report the standards are higher than ever. The food arrived promptly and exceeded expectations. A variety of beer was also on offer to wash it down! Friendly staff and a beautiful pub, what more can you ask for?

Nice pub although table wasn't ready staff were polite but not food for your money

Meal was awful, dried into the bowl, should have had a sauce on top but sauce was dried hard over the chicken. Chips were luke warm and the salad was covered in too much vinaigrette dressing which corrupted the chips. The other diners on the table had similar issues. I find this quite sad given that Weatherspoons can do so much better, as can The Railway. I have asked around and heard of many similar experiences. Should this continue then we risk losing another great pub / landmark in Formby. Its hard enough competing with Weatherspoons as it is. On the plus side staff were very pleasant.

Nice looking pub with plenty of seating outside and dog friendly. My wife and I decided to have dinner there but we're sorry we did. My wife had the Sunday roast. Only 2 slices of beef on the plate, veg was OK. She ordered pigs in blankets and they looked like an afterthought. Really poor. I ordered mixed grill which didn't fare any better. Very dry pieces of chicken, overcooked egg and the steak was all fat and gristle as well as raw in the middle. I'll not be venturing there again.

We stayed on the car park in our Motorhome and had a very quiet and peaceful night, after eating dinner, which was lovely. Very friendly service and dog friendly. Perfect, thank you!☺️

2nd visit here. Nice large car park. Friendly welcome, nice atmosphere, dog friendly with treats, water bowls and doggy menu. Excellent pub food, we had beyond buger with rosemary and sea salt fries, fish and chips. Definitely recommend

First time visiting here and i wont be rushing back. 45 mins wait for food when the pub was not that busy and then when the food came it was cold and the sunday roast portion was not worth the money they charge especially for very tough meat. Manager refunded us but has definitely put us off coming again anytime soon.

I visited the cross house this Tuesday with my two friends. The service was fantastic. Calm atmosphere. Along with great fish and chips and triple chocolate brownie. Dog friendly as well. The staff are helpful. Easy going and know how too have a laugh. While remaining professional. Adam behind the bar was incredibly helpful. Along with another lad called Adam. He dropped a glass but was all laughs. Too then find out there was another Adam on the floor. And my names Adam too! 4 Adam’s in one conversation what are the chances. Certainly favours the Adam’s does the cross house! Will be visiting again

Great Pub, Great Food, Great staff, Great environment

Visited Formby to see some family and chose the Cross House for some breakfast before travelling back home. Ordered the proper bacon sandwich and the large breakfast with all the trimmings. Not a bad word to say! The food was excellent and the staff were so welcoming. Could not recommend the place more and will be popping back in next time we’re in the area!

2 stars as some of our party enjoyed their meals. I was disappointed with the chicken burger (dry and poor quality) after a lot of other options were sold out. We had only booked a few hours earlier, so it was surprising they accepted our booking if they were short staffed or low on food. Table area was not clean on arrival. The staff were pleasant though, and the new decor is nice.

Had the mixed grill ,steak inedable just tough the two chicken breasts where 2 slices of chicken breast the sausages where awful in short don't bother.Staff basically shout is everything alright then walk off before you could even answer.

Fantastic little stop off on my way to Formby train station. Only 3 Cask Ales available, however served to perfection! Now I know where I’ll be heading for a pint of quality real ale!

Good atmosphere, great selection of drinks. Highly recommend a Monday night trip!

Not what I expected, steak and cheese melt ciabatta should of been, after emailing Green King they told me there wasn't shocked as chicken can be pink ????. Hopefully you people out there can see it looks nothing like chicken,

Alway a welcoming place to go, staff are very friendly and polite, great selection of beers and wines, food is always piping hot and delicious. Place is always spotless, we'll be back again soon.

Amazing meal at the Cross House on Saturday. Visited with my gran who had the hunters chicken, she said it was the best she's tried out of all the formby pubs. I had vegan tacos and curry, amazing food and really good vegan options. Lovely atmosphere, brilliant quick friendly service and great value for money. The cross house is now our go to for a good meal.

This place manages to seamlessly transform from a great pub to have a drink to really great place to have some food. Relaxed atmosphere with kind and attentive staff. Food is excellent and couldn’t be more hospitable.
