Found this place by accident- a happy accident!! Visiting Alton Towers but fancied eating in a calmer location. Clean, quiet and quirky! Lovely veggie meals, really quick too. Great price and wonderful staff - was very helpful to a very strict vegetarian!! Would 100% recommend. Thanks for having us!

Booked a table for 8 o'clock but got held up in the LIV golf traffic, phoned to apologise and said we hoped to get there for 9, the young lady on the phone was fantastic, told us not to worry.....we eventually got there about 20 past 9, I apologised again and expected the we'd be lucky to just get a drink but everyone there was brilliant we weren't rushed at all, it was a Sunday and I'm guessing the staff had had a long day but nothing was to much trouble. Food was also great, mine in particular, had the Steak pie. In a World where everyone is in a rush and customer service is a thing of the past it was refreshing to see how fantastic all the staff were, we really appreciated it, thankyou.

Welcomed when we arrived shown to table of 7 plus high chair explained rang earlier to confirm we only needed 6 plus high chair message obviously hadn’t been passed on seating was a little awkward! Waitress was prompt with drink and food order food was ok to be honest would be better value if smaller portion along with reduced price as we left quite a bit! Had to wait quite a while for second round of drinks we thought it had been forgotten ! Bill was paid at the bar we then decided to order a couple of white coffees flat white! We then had to wait far too long at which point we thought we’d just leave when they finally arrived waitress asked if we had paid the bill! A little frustrating as it was the same waitress we paid the bill to a few minutes before! Really didn’t feel she wanted to be there! The coffee which arrived was terrible May have just been warm water with white milk on top! Bill for coffees was paid barmaid asked if everything was ok we remarked that the coffee wasnt good to which the response was well it was out of the machine! Such a shame the barmaid didn’t apologise and not charge us even though the bill was around £100! Beautiful setting it some of the manners of the staff leaves a lot to be desired ! The most embarrassing thing about all of this review is that we had brought all of our close family who had not seen each for a few months to somewhere on our recommendation !

There's a narrow single track lane/road off the main road down to this pub, making it a slightly difficult drive at times, but it is worth it once you get there. Food = The Loaded Nachos were superb (well presented, good quantity & very tasty), the Fish & Chips was very good (looked great, crispy & tasty), but the Steak & Ale pies were a real disappointment (watery gravy, cut-up sliced meat & not very tasty). Some plates had very watery Cabbage and the Veg + Chips did seem a little 'Piled-Up High' = Quantity doesn't always = Quality. Drinks = Great selection of draft/bottled beers, quality spirits & nice mixers. BUT...! check that your coffee is HOT (not tepid) before staff disappear.

Spent the weekend in the log cabins with family this weekend. Visited the restaurant and bar a number of times during our stay and I am so happy. Location is beautiful, food was perfect and the staff were absolutely amazing! The children loved the outdoor play area and there are a number of tables outside to sit to keep an eye on them. A warm and friends restaurant, I can't wait to come back to visit. I'd like to give a shout out to Evie, she was super friendly, always stopped for a chat and nothing was to much for her. She was brilliant.

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch, the food we ordered came out immediately ( not a good sign) . My glass was dirty and smelly, on looking round we realised the entire place needed a thorough cleaning both inside and out. The location is stunning and great for children but needs cleaning from top to bottom. We won’t be going back unfortunately.

Fantastic meal at The Raddle Inn. We were staying at the nearby Quarry Walk Park, drive up to the Raddle Inn which took about 5-6 mins. You can also walk but it was drizzling so we didn't fancy it. A really lovely place, proper old school pub feel inside. Service was excellent, little buzzer to call your server... what a great idea! How do more places not have that?! Food was delicious, with generous portions sizes and served fast. Well priced at £54 for a two course meal with drinks for two. We'll be back again!

Worst experience I have had in a very long time, atmosphere on entry was so dead, no warm welcome from host either , ordered steak medium rare - came well done - returned it - came back just medium - no one checked if it was ok the second time ! There was no flavour to anything ! ordered a Stilton sauce that was congealed with grease floating on top and had mushrooms in ? ,, when host cleared she asked if all was ok I said no and explained the issues - she just said sorry. Went to bar to pay - was asked if all was ok , I said no but got no reply or comment - awful customer service would avoid the place at all costs.

We’ve been coming here for years. Whilst the settings and feel is always country like with an open wood fire and decent atmosphere. The food has really took a dive over the last 18 months . We Visited yesterday, the steak pie was horrible, overcooked and had black burnt pasty and rock hard. I showed this the waiter who took my food away. He came back and said all he could do was offer me another or a free desert. Didn’t want another thank you. I opted for a free desert which I’d rather of paid for and received a refund for my meal. Paid £12.95 for gravy chips and veg as the pie was left on the plate. Apparently the chef is going to do it different next time… what not burn the food. We won’t be retuning. A real shame because use to love the place just not the food anymore.

We stayed in two log cabins over the weekend for my daughters Hen Do. The accommodation was good and the beds comfy. We went for a meal on the Friday in one of the pods and that was brilliant. We also ate in the restaurant on Saturday, this was a last minute booking but the manager soon found us a table and was very accommodating. The manager did everything he could to make sure my daughters weekend went well and he provided excellent service. The staff were all friendly and the food was excellent I would highly recommend visiting here and was ideally situated to visit Alton Towers.

Stayed here in a cabin for 1 night whilst visiting Alton Towers. Arrived at 18.30 and checked in with ease at the bar then moved the car to park next to the lodge. Lodge itself was clean and well kept, main bed was comfy but the pillows were a little soft (personal preference). Had a delicious meal in the pub, food was tasty and plentiful, the staff were really helpful and we liked the use of the call button to get the waitresses attention. Would stay here again.

We came here twice for evening meal whilst staying in a lodge nearby. We decided to try here as we saw it had an outside play area. It also had a bouncy castle on the field across the road so our little boy loved it. The food was served really quickly which is always a plus with little kids. The food was a little bland however we decided to return just for the fast service and kids play areas, plus there were about 4/5 options for vegetarians. Prices are reasonable. The inside of the Inn needs some modernisation but it didn’t matter to us as we sat outside. They have an app to order on but upon trying to use it , not all of the table numbers were loaded on the app so had to go to the bar to order in the end. Would come here again if we were to stay in the area in the future. The bouncy castle is a great touch.

Visited recently for lunch with 4 others. All opted for the pensioners special which appeared to offer good value. I find it very difficult to review without upsetting some members of staff but recent reviews reflect that some improvements need to be made. Three of our party opted for the garlic mushrooms in breadcrumbs which were well presented with salad and garlic sauce. They could not be cut with the knives provided and without thinking we all chose to eat them with our fingers and dip them in the sauce..The main course was fish in some kind of horrible looking overdone batter.OK it didnt say beer battered fish but this was poor and I would have returned it on another day if we werent out with friends. The gammon was also overdone and dried. Someone must be able to cook in the kitchen because the chips were fabulous and the steak pie was also good. Despite all this the staff were friendly and did their best and this is why I have given it 3 stars after some thought..

Reasonable prices and chips and some other bits clearly home made so thumbs up. Could happily sit drinking here all day.Second time we booked for final meal of holiday and booked a pod. Tbh this was a waste of time and money so do not recommend to anyone. Ours was wobbly, hot, and not very spacious. Food was again quick but couple of the meals bland (cannot recommend the curry), however pies and roast chicken wonderful. Service a little bit slower this time; and ignored some minor requests but overall still good. So can defo recommend for basic food, served quick in great surroundings.Fuzzy Bear is happy enough

Would not return, booked for a meal here with another family (7meals altogether) and 3 of those were inedible. Uncooked pastry on pie and tough roasties and solid beef on a roast. Service was terrible too, our meals were left on the table for around 5 mins before we got any cutlery so by the time we went to eat the food, it was Luke warm at best. This was despite asking at least 2 people to bring us knives and forks. In the end I sourced some from another table. The waitress had no idea which beers or lager the bar served and no interest in finding out and at the end of the meal we said we weren’t happy with the food when asked and all the waitress said was “sorry about that”. Altogether possibly one of the worst dining experiences I have had.

We were a family of 11 away for the weekend to visit Alton Towers. We called and booked 2 pods as we had a family member with an underlying health problem and a young child. They booked us in for 6pm as that was the earliest time they had. We arrived to be shown to 2 pub garden benches in front of a bouncy castle . This was not what we had booked. We were told pods were un available so I requested to speak with a manager. Not only did the manager approach but he also brought the person who took the booking . Firstly they tried to claim that I had In fact not requested a pod which was utter rubbish. I stated that if I wanted to sit out in the open I would have come for an early dinner in the sunshine but I didn’t which is why we booked. The manager agreed to one pod and one table outside which was not ideal but the rest of the family said it was fine. We ordered starters and mains. I ordered for my little girl onion rings and a bread roll, this took 25 minutes and me asking 3 separate times for the food even though we had told the attendant it was a starter. Our sharer platter came out and the chicken wings were not cooked , we told the attendant who took it away. What I was shocked about was the fact that all they did was re heat the wings and put back on the same plate. As you can imagine I did not eat them. We had a garlic bread come out without cheese so that was taken back... cheese was added and it was clearly put in a microwave as it was oily and soggy. As a group we ordered nachos as a starter also , this arrived 30 mins after our order. We then move onto the mains. We ordered a broccoli pasta bake that was literally 10 pieces of pasta in a watery cheese sauce , not a bake at all. We also ordered a cod with no chips but with salad due to an allergy. The plate arrived with chips , we removed them. When the fish was cut open it had a grey sticking gloop inside. The fish was cold and inedible but at no point did anyone check in with us so this family member did not eat anything other than 3 lettuce leaves. After everyone finished dinner my father in law went for the bill and the person who had the cod went to the bar to explain that she wouldn’t pay for the cod. The waitress took the plate. What the employees didn’t realise is that our sister in law and mother in law was in the toilet next to the kitchen. The staff were describing my sister in law a fat Londoner , aggressive and angry. She was far from any of that. You are the ones that from start to finish got things wrong. I am absolutely disgusted with the behaviour of the employees at this establishment. The food was disgraceful and if you have more the 1 star hygiene rating I would be shocked. The worst customer service I have ever come across and I would warn anyone that is thinking of eating there , unless you like food poisoning ??? I would highly recommend that the management team re coach all employees around manners and the fact that speaking badly about customers is not acceptable

Booked a log cabin with hot tub for my boyfriends birthday the cabin was fine although heating playing up and it was boiling hot throughout, the radiator didn’t seem to work so we ended up having to switch off the boiler and leave windows and doors open and was too late to contact anyone. There was a lack of information who to contact and how to work the hot tub etc but the cabin itself was nice and was clean and comfortable, although hot tub was not private as the beer garden for the pub is in full view and anyone walking past or in cabins next door could see you.I decided to book a pod as a different dining experience and was interesting....although staff did accommodate our late arrival as I phoned informing them we were delayed. The pod itself moved and wobbled and once it went dark it was too dark to see your food we had to ask for a lamp and was brought this big, ugly, tacky, falling to pieces huge indoor table lamp which wasn’t pleasant around our food. The waitress couldn’t carry anything properly dropping and spilling things and pretty much threw our plates on the table. The food was awful to be honest and neither of us really ate much was like all microwaved, flavourless, cheap food. So was very disappointed as it was supposed to be a lovely meal for my boyfriends birthday. It’s a real shame as the place is very nice and the views stunning but more effort definitely needs to go into the food and service.

I don’t expect to have TINNED PEAS on on my plate and the chicken Kiev was like a rock! Complained twice and it was if the blame was being just passed onto different waitresses. Once we finally got a refund for one the meals, no one seem very apologetic. My family have been going to The Raddle for many many years and have attended several functions there. The views are amazing and in lovely weather, you couldn’t be at a better pub. The ales are of good consistent quality and I can honestly say we’ve never had a poor meal. I’ve read negative reviews about the food, but this is not our extensive experience. The food is homemade including the chips, which seems to be a rarity these days. I’m vegetarian and there’s always a delicious meal delivered! The meat eaters in our family are always happy too. I have to be honest and say that the whole place could be cleaner and brighter. Don’t think it’s been decorated in years, so this would be so beneficial. I think regulars accept this (wrongly so), but for holiday makers and new visitors, it could put them off. As I walked past the kitchen to the toilets, I thought it looked chaotic and in need of a wipe down/sweep, but then the consistent 5 stars for food hygiene can’t be argued!

We went to the raddle for Sunday lunch. We had not been for a number of years and we pleasently surprised. On the outside were two pods that you can reserve to either eat meals or just drink in for a small charge. We had our meal inside . The interior is older worlde appearance and comfortable. The staff friendly and efficient, the service good and the food home cooked . We had the roast dinner that came played with fresh veg and loads of good quality meat

Stumbled across this place whilst out for a drive.Ordered meals and all I can say is We Will Be Back !,The starter, prawn cocktail, was huge compared to others we have been served. Our mains, steaks, were lovely. I hesitate to say that, maybe, there was too much on the plate. We would need to be seriously hungry to eat such an amount of food, excellently cooked as it was.Certainly no room for dessert !.With great outdoor space, and it looks like accommodation, all weather pods , play areas for the kids, plenty of parking, stunning views, not much more you could want for really. The roads are a little narrow in places but it was, for us, worth the trip.

We stayed in the log cabin for 1 night, the pub and the food was fantastic! Could not go wrong with the portion size of the food or the taste as it was amazing, I did read a review about the ph water level in the hot tub which made me nervous and for good reason as I did leave with an infection from the hot tubs and had to have tablets to get rid from the doctor and nurse who confirmed it was the hot tub as my whole body was itching as soon as I came out, it is a lovely place, maybe log cabins need some tlc but great views just let down with catching the infection.

We were staying at the Raddle for a Stag weekend and had a fantastic time. A group of mixed ages, we were made very welcome by the friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. Good beer, excellent food and very comfortable accommodation made this a great base for the weekend. And the views...wow! Spending early morning in the hot tub under a gorgeous sunrise while overlooking the mist pocketed valley. Magic! Definitely be back when possible.

Went to this Inn for the first time recently. I have to say that I was very impressed. There were 14 of us. The food arrived about 10 minutes after we had ordered, all at the same time. The food was so good and plenty of it and I was very pleased that the menu was very well priced. The staff were very polite and friendly and accommodated our needs. Should you visit this place, absolutely. you won't be disappointed.

Dated restaurant, not very clean. Menu seemed impressive until our meal arrived at the table. There were six chicken curries on the menu, Red and Green Thai curry, Tikka masala,Chicken Balti Korma or Jalfrezi.I ordered the Red Thai but it looked and tasted like a Tikka Masala that came with a naan bread. I asked the staff about my concerns and I was told it was a Thai curry but I know the difference between the two curries. The other guest ordered a Steak Pie chips and veg , but it came minus the chips when we asked the staff they said there was no more room on the plate for the chips. This was true but the pastry was awful and didn't get eaten.Poor evening throughout we wont be going back again.

We booked a log cabin with hot tub at The Raddle Inn for the weekend to celebrate a special birthday. Received a warm welcome on arrival & enjoyed a relaxing drink by the log fire in the pub before being shown to the cabin. The accommodation was warm, clean & very well equipped. We'd previously booked a meal in the Raddle Inn for our first night- the meals were reasonably priced, food excellent and service very good. The hot tub was a real bonus & was enjoyed by us all. It was great for us to be able to relax in it when we returned on Saturday night from a day spent at Alton Towers. All in all a very happy & memorable family weekend. Would love to do it again sometime - & wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend the Raddle Inn to others. Thanks to all at The Raddle, Karen Taylor & family.

I have visited the Raddle Inn many times, mostly after numerous visits to Alton Towers which is nearby or from drives out in the countryside. The pub itself is charming and set in lovely surrounding countryside. I have had some nice meals here but just lately the service and food quality has gone down hill. I recently had the steak pie which was recomommeded to me by a friend, but I found it to be very bland with about one piece of meat and extremely greasy chips. But what really lets down the pub is that when you step inside this yocal pub is that people look at you with suspicion as if you aren't from the immediate area,as though we are aliens. Thank goodness the very un lady like 'chef' is not customer facing as she often scuttles into the bar like a mouse, eyes the punters and then you can hear her swearing to the staff or moaning if we order near the closing time- not welcoming at all! All in all this used to be a nice pub, but I feel it's getting tired and old and needs a good revamp. Il be back again in the summer to enjoy the views and have a drink, but other than that il avoid and go to a more welcoming pub with better food.

Love this place excellent food and service in beautiful surroundings. We first visited last year while staying in the area we loved the home cooked fresh food at very reasonable prices. So when we were in the are for the night we visited twice and were not disappointed. We left our little boys bag under the table and didn't realise until we had left. A quick phone call later and our bag was located and put to one side. If you are in the area this place really is a hidden gem and nothing else comes close in Leicester.

First and last time for me. Food was shocking, chips similar to chip shop chips at the end of a night with an added funny taste. Chicken tasted weird, probably the taste of whatever was cooked on grill before it. Will not recommended eating out here to anyone.

A warm welcome when we first arrived! Multiple families stayed at the Raddle Inn for a recent trip to Alton Towers! This was the ideal place to stay on our recent visit to Alton Towers. Service with a smile at the local pub, food was good quality, typical pub food menu which was all cooked very well. Lovely local feel about the place and we would all stay again. Iv been coming here for some years now. However just recently Iv been quite disappointed with the food. If it's not busy then you can normally guarantee great home made food. Go on a busy day like Iv been today & it's just shoved in the microwave & chewy. It's going to be a while before I visit again. I'll keep my eyes peeled to the trip advisor.

First time ever been out with daughter on our own and she chose here. OMG. Never again. Scampi just edible, baked beans were cremated in the microwave and chips were ok but looked undercooked and tasted weird. Daughter couldn't even eat her pie because of the strange tasting gravy. The waitress asked if everything was ok whilst taking plates and when I told her about the beans and why my daughter hadn't eaten anything, SHE LAUGHED! Told the manager not impressed. Won't go again & won't recommend to anyone.

Came here after staying at Alton towers for the weekend. Came down on the Wednesday night and can honestly say this was the best food I have ever had. I had the risotto with chips and a salad and my boyfriend had the chicken. Both of us said how amazing the food was and how good portion sizes you get for such a good price. Contemplating traveling to go there again as the food was so nice, definitely recommend for a nice little pub meal. Best food I've had for a while.

I went there in a party of 4 people for Sunday Lunch. I was a bit concerned as I can be hard to please if I do not get what I order and expect. I was very surprised and delighted with the food on offer. There is a comprehensive menu with different meat dishes, pasta, fish, catering for all requirements. I ordered pate with English Lamb as the main course and half expected the thin pre-packed stuff which can be served. Well PROPER Lamb was served along with traditional vegetables, lovely gravy in a boat so your meal was not drowned. The vegetables were cooked just right and were not soggy, the lamb was just too much - my dog enjoyed that which I could not eat, and it was delicious. The rest of the party had sea food to start followed by chilli, fish and pasta. They all enjoyed their food too. They were too full for dessert so I had ice cream and this was huge. ( It does slip down into the gaps in your tummy after all) With drinks and coffee it worked out at about £18.00 per head which was exceptionally good value. Cannot rate this highly enough, so please go and try it. As a footnote, the staff were excellent too.

Went for breakfast, coffee machine broken so ended up with a cup of Tea Ordered 2 breakfasts and nice but helpings are getting smaller every time we go. Cake slices have gone very stingy and not much filling. But the carry on charging the same if not more. Did a bit of store shopping but prices high so shopping limited. Disappointed that this store have no charging facilities for electric cars etc. I cannot believe that we are in the year 2024 where Sainsbury's is advertising renewable energy and doing it's bit contributing towards saving the planet. But WHY has it not got EV Charging point a massive store with no facility to charge your cars.i fing This not only unbelievable but disgusting that a super sized store that been built a few years ago and would have had plenty of time to install chargers. I think I'll be shopping at Morrisons in leek at least they have chargers

We had not been to The Wheel for quite a while so decided to walk up and have tea. This is a lovely, old school traditional pub. The food was really good. The menu is exactly as you'd expect from a decent pub. Nothing fancy, no pages and pages to read through so you can't see the wood for the trees, just a good menu of real food at excellent prices. My husband had the lamb shank in red wine special and I had scampi. Portions were a good size and we both really enjoyed it. As it is such excellent value I am sure we will be back.

Me and my partner had such a lovely evening here! We don’t often go out to eat but decided to treat ourselves and we were not disappointed! The chef even cooked myself another pizza as he wasn’t quite happy with the size of the first one. This just showed me that they really care about the food and service that they are providing.
