Quality Satisfaction and Great Food with a warm welcome. What more can you expect from this picturesque historic pub. Yes no pub is complete without good beer and it is available at sensible prices.

A lovely friendly pub with great character. Went on a Friday lunchtime for light bites. I had the prawn sandwich which was crammed with prawns and very tasty. One of my party had the ploughman's lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see it came with ham and plentiful cheese together with fresh bread and the usual pickles and salad (for an amazing £10) and it's third member of our party had the small plate sausage and mash - a very generous portion and extremely tasty 😋.... Good beer selection too.

For a Friday night out we took some visiting friends who had travelled a long way, and were really looking forward to showing them a traditional country Sussex pub. We were really disappointed. We had the ‘lamb shanks’which was 2 greasy lamb chops overcooked with the tiniest bit of meat on each. Mash, overcooked cauliflower and broccoli, and peas. The mash and peas were edible that’s about it. Also a lasagne- little bit of advice a Lasagne usually has pasta in it. Not this one, just a pile of non descript grey mince with a melted cheese topping…also a pie which was OK aside from the ‘gravy’. We were served basically a non dissolved oxo cube in some boiling water. Disgusting. I was half expecting carrot crush and a nob of lard. Such a shame for a busy pub in a great area with the sumners pond clientele as a catchment area. Apparently they recommend the pub but you’d be better off getting a kebab from Southwater. Chef- that was awful. Owner- we felt ripped off and we only didn’t complain because we didn’t feel it was worth the effort; the poor young girls shouldn’t have to take the rap for you serving up such terrible food . 2 stars for the friendly staff, 0 for the food

Lovely friendly pub with great staff let down by the unappetising food. Possibly the worst food I’ve had. The lasagne was swimming in grease, and I struggled to find any lasagne in it! The gravy served with the other meals(which themselves left a lot to be desired) was quite clearly water and an undisolved oxo cube!

Spending the weekend in the area with family we wanted to find somewhere nice for dinner on Saturday evening. We came across the menus for The Queens Head and they showed plenty of choice and a good selection for all the family, with fish lovers, pizza lovers and gluten free options. Just a shame that the pub have not updated their website to show their very reduced menu!! No mention of this at all on the website, we struggled for options that were suitable for everyone. The waitress was very polite and friendly but service was very slow! Just an average pub at the end of the day, did not live up to expectations.

Nice place and servers were polite, but the food was terrible. Son had Burger, came with no relish & his spring rolls were so hot he burnt all the roof of his mouth. (must of been either microwaved or air fried for to long). His girlfriend had Pasta and it was so bad she could only eat less than half of it. She felt it was so bad she complained & she would not normally do that. All the chips on the table were really dry which leads me to believe they were Air Frier cooked. After our complaint the agreed a 10% reduction on one of the meals. Definitely wont be returning and surprised they are still trading.

We had been invited to dinner by my in-laws, on arrival we sat down and the menu arrived on a sheet of paper saying Spanish night. Tapas menu, no other food offered, we decided to give it ago even though my mother in law had not been told it was a Spanish night when booking the table. After making our choice the food arrived after about 15 minutes, but only served 3 plates for a table of 4, as this was not traditional tapas that arrived in individual dishes you basically picked 4 from the choice of 6 dishes and it arrived on a dinner plate!! So after working out the confusion with the waiting staff that we were missing a full plate, the 3 that had food started to eat. Luke warm paella, cold chicken and Luke warm meatball, we immediately sent the 3 plates back to the kitchen. A quick bing later and the food came back, and we now had 4 plates of food, warmer and drier than before. We were now hungry so ate up, what can only be described as a very mediocre tapas offering. In the mean time 2people had walked out as had waited too long to be served. A table behind us sent their food back and didn’t want replacements. Having eaten here a few times before, it’s always been a busy friendly pub, disappointing that they need to try silly gimmick nights rather than serve good pub grub.

Been here previously and although the pub is always extremely friendly and welcoming with some great live local music we have been very disappointed with food……… NOT ANY MORE!!!!! Oh my god the food was sublime. Salt and pepper squid with gorgeous dip and salad with a tasty dressing. Melt in the mouth baked Camembert with toasted bread and salad and a tangy chunky chutney that tasted home made. And a huge bowl of mussels and creamy sauce with more bread. All topped off with a well price and delicious bottle of Merlot. The bill was very reasonable and the service was fast friendly and with out fault. Thank you team queens head. We’ll be back soon, as I was spoilt for choice with a great menu and specials.

Despite a couple of servers passing by our table initially, I had to go and find one acquire a menu. This happened again as it obviously was forgotten. Then the service begun. The Chicken Balti was a good flavour with white rice. The disappointment was the Nan bread which had a taste of cardboard and was not worth eating. My wife's Chilli was enjoyable. All in all, speeding up the service and replacing the Nan with something that resembles Nan would give a measurable improvement.

We visited the Queens Head with high expectations, having had a great experience there, albeit a few years ago. We booked on the phone and were given no warning of the first surprise of the evening. We were greeted with signs directing us to the back garden where we found an open marquee with an ordering and collecting point. Being on holiday we went along with this, thinking it was quite fun at first. We followed the directions and one of us went up to the ordering point where a lady took our family's order. She made no mention at this point that she already knew there was a 50 minute delay on food! During the very long wait for our starters we became aware of the second surprise - all meals were being served in polystyrene containers. Not a massive issue but again this had not been mentioned anywhere. Our food arrived 1 hour after ordering. We know this as one of our party was timing things by now! All could have been forgiven but, oh dear..I could go into detail but I'll pick out a few notables - pizza pretty much inedible, and that came from a 17 year old who'd eat pretty much anything. Mac and cheese where the cheese sauce had separated and looked like porridge. To be fair I quite liked my peri-peri chicken, but because it was just dumped on top of my chips they were soggy with sauce. Some might like that but I'd prefer them crispy. All in all a bit of a shambles but what's most disappointing is there was no warning at all. I would normally always make a polite complaint but as we'd been having a great time we let things go. Myself and my partner eat out a lot and no other restaurant I know is doing this. At the very least people should be made aware and any restaurant, given that everyone had to book, should be in a position to cater well for how busy they know they will be.

There was a wait on food but understandable with the amount of people taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme however that gave me time to try a few different gins from their selection! When food arrived it was lovely, yes in polystyrene containers but that contributes to making it one of the safest places we have visited! We will definitely return another time!

I went with a group of friends for a pre-booked pub dinner. I am vegan, so ordered the only vegan option that they had left that day: the vegan pizza. The food arrived in polystyrene tubs (perhaps a coronavirus precaution). I have never before sent a dish back in a restaurant, but the pizza was utterly inedible. I was unsure as to whether something soapy had been spilled on the pizza, and had to return it. I gladly took the staff up on their offer of having a bean burger (which wasn't on the menu) as a replacement. When it arrived, it lacked the coleslaw and burger bun since they were not vegan, and the burgers were not bean burgers, but the mashed-potato deep fried variety sold in kebab shops. My non-vegan friends were also underwhelmed by their meals. When I went to order dessert, I asked whether I would be able to have a discount on it since the meal had lacked many of the elements of my friends' meat burger meals (the pub required us to pay upfront so I had already paid the full price of the pizza). I was told that I could not receive any such discount, and that the burgers 'would have been more expensive than the meat burgers' which was blatantly untrue since they were primarily greasy mashed potato. I was, however, offered a free drink which I did appreciate. When my friends got dessert they were sorely disappointed. The crumble was cold, as was the accompanying custard. The customers sat beside us also commented that their food was questionable. I tried to be as polite as possible throughout but it was clear that that the staff were impatient with us. I felt really let down and quite uncomfortable. I have never before been compelled to leave a bad review but thought that people should be aware that the pub that the local campsite recommends (which is how we found it) is very disappointing.

We popped in spontaneously just after the kitchen had closed, not knowing this we asked if we could order food, and the answer was yes! Great customer service and friendly staff, this was our first visit and we’ll definitely go back. The food and drinks were great, the food was brought out in polystyrene packaging but in these difficult times of Covid-19 the systems they have in place are very effective, more power to you and good luck. We sat in the open sided marquee in the garden which although was a bit grubby meant there was lots of space for people to sit and eat and not be too close. I was slightly sceptical of our visit having read some of the reviews on here but all in all this is a nice pub, with good food at very reasonable prices with friendly staff our experience was pleasant. Thank you

I was staying at Sumners in the Safari Tent over the weekend (yes during storm Dennis!) with my two young boys aged 8 and 9 and popped across the road to The Queens Head on Sunday evening for dinner. Sadly, on speaking to the barman, I found out that food had stopped being served in the afternoon - what I didn't realise was that Ben was sitting on a barstool enjoying his night off with a colleague; on hearing my plea for food and seeing the disappointed looks on my son's faces, he kindly offered to make some fresh pizzas for the three of us which were delicious.A really kind gesture Ben which I'm hugely grateful for and appreciate you making the effort on your night off. A great pint too and one of my sons was delighted to help out the bingo-caller - it looked like a fun night and wished we'd got there earlier! A very pleasant way to spend the evening.

This was comfortably the worst pub experience I have had in the last 10 years. It took 25 mins to take our order, then another hour for the food to arrive. None of the waiting staff were vaguely aware that we were waiting for our food until we pointed out that the people on the table next to us, who arrived 30 mins after us, had already been served their mains while we were still waiting on our starter. When our food did eventually turn up, some of the dishes were completely missing. The place was also half empty so they were not rushed off their feet. When the bill arrived and we challenged the fact that it was showing items that we hadn't received, we waited another 10 mins. It turned out this was because the manager was viewing the camera above our table to verify if we were telling the truth or not. He then turned up and started challenging whether it really took an hour for the food to arrive, as he had timed it around 38 mins from the time his staff had entered the order in the system etc. This spectacularly missed the point. Rather than apologise, he simply tried to undermine our version of events, saying 'you wouldn't believe how many times people have tried to rip me off'. We eventually received a 50% discount after intense arguing. But this was never about saving a few pounds, it was about trying to get some marginal compensation for a ruined evening. Not that the manager understood this at all, he actually interpreted this as a customer trying to get one over on him. Spectacularly awful.

The new management have changed the menu and have obviously put a lot of time and thought into making the pub better than ever. We will be back!!!

I have visited this pub before with family and having heard it had changed hands, we decided to try it again. Upon enquiring at the bar, we discovered that the manager had changed but not the landlord, which was lovely to hear as he had made us feel so welcomed last time. We sat at a table near the kitchen and looked over the menu. It was lovely to see it had changed and was full of warming, comforting, good pub food instead of the old menu which featured heavily on pies and screamed convenience. My dad also commented on how you could hear the chef actually cooking, instead of hearing the ping of a microwave that is more common these days. I had the sausage and mash and it was absolutely wonderful, accompanied with a double Bombay and lemonade for only £5! (What a wonderful idea!). The pub offers a good range for real ale drinkers, but if you’re a gin lover myself, you definately need to get down there, the bar staff were really informative when I asked about the different ones and mixers recommended. Overall, a wonderful visit, good service and excellent food, we shall be back!

Much improved which was a nice surprise after only eating a few times a couple of years back we were put off with the quality. Took a chance today & had a very generous portion of fresh roast chicken with all the trimming with no need to order extra gravy as it came automatically. Generous portion of fresh cooked veg. Delicious thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be going back very soon. Well done to the team.

I decided to write a review for this lovely country pub as all I am seeing recently is negative reviews which are completely unjust in my opinion! I live locally and I know that the management has changed in the pub but the owners are still the same and so are all the staff members that I have seen. The only big change I am aware of is the menu as I know the new management wanted to change the food and have more home cooked food rather than frozen which I think is great but understand not everything can be done from scratch in a little kitchen. The food we have had in there recently has been very enjoyable and also piping hot - no changes ever seems to be too much trouble.

Struggled to give 3 stars - visited the Queens Head a few times during a week's stay in the area for Christmas. I understand the place has changed hands fairly recently. It has most definitely changed for the worse. It is a charming Pub with lots of character. Open fireplaces, beams and low ceilings. Unfortunately the new Management don't seem to be making the most of the features that they have inherited. The drinks are expensive. Some of the staff seem very young, inexperienced and badly trained. The trading hours over the Christmas period are quite bizarre and seem to be geared more to the convenience of the staff & management rather than the Customers. Open from 12 - 2 on Christmas Day which is barely enough time to say hello to people and grab a seat. Understandably it was very busy so there was a wait to be served. Barely enough time for a couple of drinks. Notably quieter than at the same time 2 years ago when we were there. Then we could barely get in to the place so stood outside which wasn't a problem as it was dry and mild that day. Boxing Day the Pub closed at 7pm -quite unbelievable - and closed very promptly - as we didn't hear anyone say last orders - having been there for a few hours in the afternoon after shopping in Horsham. The Girl serving behind the bar didn't venture out to tell us they were closing nor did she mention it when we got our previous drinks. We were refused service when we went to bar and were told that she had already called time. Great Customer care and service - NOT. Seemed too preoccupied with a couple of regulars at the bar. Quite disappointing all in all . I don't have much confidence for the future of this place unless the new management seriously address some aspects of the way the place is run - and maybe take on board some of the other observations and comments of other recent reviews.

now, i live in the village and i'm getting a bit cheesed off with derogatory reviews of MY local -not from people that think local means once a year at christmas ! Sorry, if you use a pub YOU KNOW that pubs SHUT 10 minutes after last orders !!! ye gods !!!!And they do not need to tell you when they shut -the hours are published OUTSIDE, they are not there to nanny you !!!!.READ !!! Rant over. grow up. On the basis that the current co manager has had his heart ripped out literally AND emotionally , he and his c/o host are doing rather well; food improved after they cut out some of the deadwood, excellent Christmas meal, well kept beer -Expensive ? no , its called Sussex -live with it or leave, Great cornish clotted cream , and garlic mushrooms by the way ....for a bit of fun engage in some conversation with the blokes at the bar, all loads of fun , just dont mention crystal palace.

We booked a Christmas dinner for the 20th December, but arrived to find we were the only people in the entire pub dining from this menu! In a pub full of men having a pint or two, our table decorated with a few crackers stuck out like a sore thumb... we saw the funny side though...until the food arrived! Garlic mushrooms were overcooked, tasteless and visually unappealing. The waiting staff were young, inexperienced and ‘awkward’ - not their fault but training is an issue as they weren’t confident, cheerful or timely. The main course, roast turkey, was of the standard you’d expect at a large ‘Christmas do’ venue - tasteless, unappealing but perfect if you like roast parsnips that have been in the oven for all of ten minutes. We skipped dessert. Mince pieces and clotted cream next...awful mince pies and definitely not clotted cream. The coffee looked like tar and was undrinkable. The pub was friendly and cosy with an open fire but the food...just awful!

I understood that the Queens Head had changed ownership or management or both recently so decided to give it a try. I never had a problem with the pub before and always found the people there to be very pleasant, efficient and the food, which was mainly pies of several kinds, was always quite good. Last week when we went there, the menu had changed with a notable addition of pizza and pasta dishes so has adopted an Italian flavour like so many English pubs nowadays. So no big deal there although they have installed a stone oven which is of course a good sign for cooking pizza. I chose some typical English pub food which was a steak and Guinness pie but somehow my order got confused in the kitchen, or by the young waiter, and I noticed during eating it, that it was the steak and blue cheese pie which I do not like at all. Couldn't be bothered to send it back to the kitchen as we were already into our dinners by then so ate it, washed down with some excellent Craft lager at the pub. All in all, not a bad experience, the people are still nice although the young waiter looked a bit lost, the food is average to good. My wife had the vegan pizza which she said was quite enjoyable. Would we return, perhaps for a drink but will probably give lunch or dinner a miss next time.

On Saturday the 9th of November The Queens Head produced an excellent lunch for 29 hungry walkers! And it was an excellent lunch; the menu was varied and everything was of good value. Planning for the lunch went very smoothly with Laura who seemed to take everything in her stride. The service of these 29 lunches was excellent, the food came out promptly and was piping hot and very tasty. It is not a pub for 'foodies' , they provide great pub grub at reasonable rates and we were all impressed. Thank you to Laura and to her team, you were all great!!

Seems strange to review a venue we didn’t eat or drink in - however this was only down to my poor timing. The lady behind the bar could not have been more friendly and helpful, even letting us use the WiFi and her phone to make sure we could get fed somehow. My little girl was even allowed to play the decor! Amazed. And so grateful.

Went tonight as caravaning at sumners pond, as a veggie I was a bit bewildered by the fish and scampi being labelled as V, thought maybe there was a veggie option but on asking about this I was told it was for pescatarians.....sorry, but I'm vegetarian which is sooo different from being pescatarian. Completely mislabelled and didn't fill me with confidence for my veggie option of garlic mushrooms.... which were swimming in oil. ..

A dour and miserable place. Been here many times under different management and it was superb. The circus running the show now look glum, fed up and as though they don't want to be there. No service with a smile, just a shrug and ''you get what you pay for'' attitude. Very unfriendly place. I would say this place is very over-rated.

We enjoyed a nice evening at the Queens head while staying at Sumners pond which is located across the road and within a 5 min walk. The pub is relaxed with a charming decor and has nice outside seating available. The staff were friendly and welcoming, in keeping with the nice atmosphere. The food was very nice and they have a good variety of Beers, wines and spirits. We enjoyed Sumners pond in our Motorhome and will be revisiting there, so we will certainly be dropping in again to enjoy the hospitality of this traditional style pub.

Enjoyed good home cooking here whilst staying at Summers Ponds Campsite. This local is conveniently within walking distance of the campsite. The beer garden is really pleasant with a safe play area for children. The staff made us really welcome each visit & their local knowledge was invaluable. We enjoyed our Sunday roast with six different veg here after a long walk but it has to be their own made amazing pizza which takes top marks. Pizza ( eat in / take away) is served on Mondays - would recommend you drop in & try some!!

We actually visited to see the classic, vintage and Veteran car display which Ben, the Landlord had arranged for charity. The event was amazing and the organisation perfect. Now to the pub...great atmosphere and super selection of well-kept beers, lagers etc. A special barbecue had been laid on to support the event on the day, along with very good live music. The BBQ food was great too and the day was such fun and so well supported that it actually made us wish we lived a bit closer to this delightful village pub. Fortunately some friends are soon to move to Barns Green so we will have a good excuse to return! Yippee!!

Nice pub but we were a bit disappointed with the service. We were a party of 10 and booked in advance as we were celebrating a birthday. Firstly we couldn't all have the starters that we wanted as they didn't have everything on the menu then the chap went away before taking the main order and again when we ordered mains were told there were other items from the standard menu not available! Had we been told this at the beginning of the evening we probably would have gone elsewhere. We then had one person who's starter didn't arrive and had to wait despite the fact that we checked we had ordered 10 starters and 10 mains and then the exact same thing happened with the main we had to wait for one. Some of us ordered the Katsu chicken as we had seen others eating it when we arrived and it looked yummy but when ours arrived it was a very different looking dish, not what the others had eaten at all. Then to top it all we had been told there was no pizza but others were being served pizza as we left. The landlady did take off the cost of one meal for the poor service but even so we were all left quite flat and it spoiled the evening.

We recently stayed at Sumners Pond and were hoping to use their cafe but found it shut early weekday evenings so found this pub and so pleased we did, we spent the next 2 nights there! Staff lovely and helpful, our 2 large dogs welcomed, and OMG, the chef is Awesome. The food was fabulous, huge portions as it should be I feel, so many pubs give miserly chip and pudding portions but not here! we had a massive slab of sticky toffee pud, I was in heaven. 2nd night had a wonderful Curry and bless him, chef gave us the recipie for me to do at home. Have booked again, can’t wait to go back. Hoping that chef is on because you couldn’t fault the food!

We have been to the Queens head on several occasions in the past 2 years and it has been fantastic. Our visit this Saturday evening was totally horrendous. The two waiting teens should not be in this job, or at least try and smile as thought they want to be there. We were joking with people who were waiting for desert when we were waiting to order and they wern' t happy either. I have been in this position before so have an outlook on wauting/bar service...

Promising looking pub, with friendly enough staff, but pies to avoid. Quite why they make a big deal about their Pieminister range escapes me. Two different varieties, both less than tasty. They may have had a top and bottom but the pastry was dry and tough. You can see why they need a jug of gravy. Our local does home-made pies worth traveling for. Sadly, you can't say the same for The Queens Head.

We had dinner here fro one of their music evenings and enjoyed a relaxing evening with friendly service. We both had piemaster pies which were good but not special, probably better pricing these with veg and choice of potatoes. I would try something else next time but happy to go again. The music was good, surprised the pub wasn't busier for this.

Nice enough pub, with a reasonable drinks selection and friendly staff. We visited for a family lunch (on recommendation) and the place is very geared up for food. However, the food is absolutely dreadful: over cooked, bland and (in the case of the bao buns that I had) inedibly dry. Seems very popular, for reasons unknown to this visitor.

We ordered breakfast at out table and it was delivered quickly with every detail perfectly executed. The food was hot and fresh and really tasty. The drinks were also perfect. I paid what I thought was a fair price and will definitely be returning. You’ll go a long way to find better food in Horsham.

Unfortunately we felt on this occasion the food really was not up to the usual standard - whitebait over cooked - chips not their usual crispy delicious standard - but everyone has an off day and we said it would not deter us from returning HOWEVER we found out as we were leaving that after 14 years of trading the Orchard is due to close at the end of September 😔 So sad as , as a family some who are no longer with us it was always are “go to” place for a good quality home cooked meal . So what ever the owners plans are for the future we wish them good luck 😋
