Booked for an evening meal. Nothing was set up, and the waiting staff had not even arrived. Food was of poor quality, and the fish was frozen fish, which my son compared it the fish he has at school dinner. Really disappointed as had previously had lovely meals here. The restaurant was no longer just a restaurant area it is now a room with no real identity or atmosphere. The beautiful fireplace was dark and unused. It just feels unloved now.

Called in for a bar meal on bank hol monday, read the menu , homemade steak and ale pie more like frozen ding pie , small cup of peas and handful of chips =£14 then charged £5 for a pint of lemonade , what happened to encouraging no drink driving when they charge more for lemonade than beer. Run down bar , poor food, expensive soft drinks.Your choice ?

We popped in for an evening meal. The host was very attentive, and was helping out the owner who had a staff shortage. The food was really tasty, and the host's skills made us linger longer than we might have otherwise done.

I am local to the Rothbury area and have grown up here, I have often come to the queens for drinks with my family and had a pleasant experience, the staff are usually quite welcoming, unfortunately I can not say the same for the owner. As this weekend I understand staff were under higher pressure and mistakes can be made, our drinks order was incorrect but this wasn’t an issue to us. But when we pointed out that it wasn’t what we had ordered, the owner (who was serving us) insisted that it was and was clearly quite annoyed. We went to a few of the other pubs and returned later that night, when I ordered (again being served by the owner) he made a joke saying “are you sure that’s what you want”, to which I replied yes and not to make a joke of it. He then proceeded to tell my boyfriend “Listen up buttercup, cheer up, grow up, or f*** off” - we chose the latter option, understandably. My partner waited outside, while I returned to the bar to try and make a complaint with the owner rather than expressing my upset online, however all I was given was a sarcastic tone and told to leave as my boyfriend had apparently sworn at him - which he had not. I am really quite upset about this experience, however, I also noticed that we were not the only customers being spoken to in this fashion and so will not take it personally. However I will not be returning to this pub.

We stayed in Rothbury for a few nights and opted to eat locally. The queens head is lovely and modern on the inside and we liked the decor. The two server's in the restaurant were very attentive and polite. There menu choice was varied although some dishes weren’t available when we ate there. Service was prompt and the food didn’t disappoint.

Visited this place for the 1st and last time. My 83 year old mum and I went for lunch. We ordered fish and chips and homemade ham and chicken pie. We were the only people in the restaurant but it took 45 mins for the food to arrive. The fish and chips looked good however the gravy for the pie was a gluttonous mass that would not pore out of the jug even when turned upside down. The pie was so over cooked the inside was jet black on the inside!!! I politely said to the manager I felt the pie was inedible. To which point he snatched the plates ( as my mother was eating it) and said “ that pie is eatable the best thing is you should go somewhere else for food”. Needless to say say we were left speechless. I have never experience such abuse manor from someone in hospitality. This left my 83 year old mum very shaken. It is unbelievable a brewery would allow someone like this manage one of their public houses. Stay clear food poor customer service none existent.

I should have realised when the place was empty at 7pm. Having had a revamp the place has lost atmosphere. Expected fresh food, not frozen at those prices. It was also overcooked. Music was dreadful, unless you are over 90. l felt sorry for the young staff. Will not return.

I booked for Christmas day lunch on 10/11/21, paying a £20 deposit, due to a change of circumstances I had to cancel the booking on 15/11/21, I was informed that the deposit was none refundable, however having found the pub on Opentable, which clearly states that deposits ARE refundable, and not being informed of the None refund policy when booking or in any communication with the Queens head. I spoke to the manager and explained the issue to him on 17/11/21 and he agreed to refund the deposit due to my not having seen the T &C's, however after waiting for over a month I have spoken to the manager again today 16/11/21 and he has said that the deposit is held by the pub's owner which is Punch Taverns, and they have categorically said that all deposits are none refundable. It looks like a boycott of punch Taverns from now on.

Two of us ordered a starter of chicken strips priced at £6.99. What we got was three tiny pieces of chicken on a bed of rocket. I pointed out to the waiter that I had eaten the same starter here four weeks previously and the portion then was twice as big. His inane reply was that the main courses were on the pass. When they arrived it was obvious that they had been on the pass for some time. The chicken breasts came with a bed of rice and a bbq sauce. The sauce had dried to a lump on top of the chicken and the rice was bone dry. The steak and ale pie was like eating a piece of leather and the ale was totally absent. It was sent back but the replacement was just as bad in that the pastry was not cooked and was wet and soggy. Again we complained and told them to not include the pie in the bill. At no time did any management appear to apologise. If you like good food avoid the Queens Head and go to the Italian over the road. As a localI was disgusted by what was served up.

On entering the pub, there is a hand sanitiser station, and a "please wait" sign. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff and shown to our table. Contact details were taken, and social distancing of tables was really good, and the pub was really clean. Ordered drinks and looked at the menu. All seemed to be traditional pub grub, but I was a bit disappointed that pie wasn't on the menu. Waitress asked if we were ready to order, and I did mention no pie, she said it was on the lunch menu and would speak with the the chef. Came back to say we could have steak and ale pie, which was really appreciated it and good customer service. The staff and service at the pub was really good. We certainly were not disappointed when the pie turned up, it was good. All in all, good tasty food, good friendly service with covid safe practice, and a clean environment, and a one way in and a separate way out system in place. Would I eat here again if in Rothbury - yes I would.
