Caffe Piazza doesn't exist anymore, it is now called THE PIG IN MUCK, and it's a great place for a visit

Avoid at all costs, owner doesn’t pay staff, cakes and scones are all bought in, barely ever open, young staff that don’t know any better!

Family visit for coffee & cake Coffees good, cakes fine so no complaints on that front Unfortunately served by two of the most docile teenagers in the whole of Northumberland.... was like something out of Fawlty Towers Even our 11 year old saw the funny side & reckoned that she would do a better job Note to the owner.... have a word with them please!!

Only stopped for a quick cup of tea so can't really offer much information. A family came in and ordered breakfast/lunch so it looks as plenty options available. Did manage a piece of carrot cake which was large enough to share with my husband. Be warned though that they don't accept credit cards. Toilets are outside of the building down an alleyway. It's a very old building so this is understandable

Went for a lovely lunch for two. The club sandwich and meatball sandwich were really tasty, and very reasonably priced. Service was great, and staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Popped in for lunch while visiting Alnwick was treated to a beautiful and generous lunch. The local crab sandwich with very chunky chips and the classic toasty with chips was a treat. Service was friendly and quick. Can definitely recommend if you are in Alnwick.

Visited twice last week and sat outside. Only one guy taking orders and making/delivering coffee in the mornings so there was a little bit of a wait but the coffee was decent enough and the people watching enjoyable.

Looked nice and quaint so gave it a try. Friendly staff, quickly took our order. The staff seem a bit confused and trip over each other a lot, partly doing tasks. Other than that when our food arrived it was very good, well presented and tasty. Would visit again.

We were wandering round looking for somewhere that did simple children’s meals and saw from the menu on the door they did chicken nuggets, chips and peas or beans. Job done we thought. The café is tiny inside, and crammed with tables with little space between, so don’t expect to get in with a buggy, or wheelchair unless you sit right by the door. A basket of blankets is provided for the tables outside, and we were ok inside because the sun was on the room, but the door was frequently opened and left that way, so there was sometimes quite a draft. The menu is given on a clipboard in poly pockets so is not easy to read. The children’s options were very limited, but we ordered the nuggets and made our own choices of the usual variations on the theme of sandwiches, and we could not resist the thought of home-cut chips. These were really delicious, but were really skin on wedges, not actually chips which caused a problem for our wee one who really didn’t like them. The remainder of the food was good, including the chocolate cake. Although we were there at lunch time most folk were having coffees and cakes and we got the impression that this was more usual than anyone looking for meals. They had a variety of coffees and teas as well as wines, bottled beer and ciders. Would like to have a rating option of 'good', as 'average' seems maybe a little mean, but we definitely feel we could not put 'very good'.

Tried getting in twice this week to have someone rushing to the door on both occasions (before we've even open it) to be told that they have no chef (?!) we're local and must say this never seems to happen when the owner is in. The second occasion we were only after coffees but the blunt attitude put us off. We won't bother next time, such a shame!

Nice view of the market when sat in window , ok coffee ! But were put off when a bloke arrived and started counting cash from the till in front of the customers ! Probably the owner but still very unprofessional !! Wife enjoyed her latte , the place has potential to be great but it just isn’t .

I'm giving this place 1 star because Google does not have an option for no stars at all. Arrived at lunch to a miserable staff with no desire to serve the customers. Guy behind the counter seemed like it was a problem that anyone was even coming in. Started with a sandwich on bread that had to be a week or more old. Cold baked potato and soup. Don't waste your time or money. 💵

I realy like this Cafe. Call in at least once a week and always get a walm welcome . I think the food and drink are well prepared and offer value for money. A bottle of house white for only £11.95 !!! All I can think is the bad reviews are when they were caught on an off day. People are always quick to criticise and slow to praise.

We stopped off relatively early for lunch but there was only one portion of tomato and basil soup left which my husband had with crusty bread. He enjoyed it. I had a latte which was fine too.

We left our very early accommodation as early as possible this morning, and being a Sunday it appeared that nothing in Alnwick was open at 9.00 Came across Caffe Piazza in the Market Square. A welcome find on a very cold morning. This cafe opens at 9.00 every day and serves breakfast, cake, coffee and lunch. The staff is welcoming and efficient

I have recently been here for breakfast on two occasions and have found it a very friendly cafe with good service and good food. I can only comment on breakfast but would definitely come here for lunch when in this part of town. There are seats and tables in front of the cafe which overlook the lovely market square and the cafe provides blankets for anyone sitting out and feeling the cold. There are, of course, tables indoors. Coffee was lovely and eggs perfectly cooked. I look forward to the next visit.

Not a friendly welcoming atmosphere. Felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff. The young man was only one who actually smiled. Burger said "ultimate" with home made sauce 😂 no it wasn't. It was tasteless. Only gave stars for coffee which was nice. Overall poor service, disorganised. Potential for nice cafe but needs to improve. A hello and a smile would be a good start.

Lovely setting, should be a huge success. Regrettably completely incompetent. Appalling service, poor manners, took the jump and left after thirty minutes of waiting. Avoid.

We stopped mid-morning for a late breakfast, and having given our order sat in the seats outside in the market place. The cafe was only moderately busy, but food took over twenty minutes to be served. When it did finally arrive, it was cold - it had obviously been sitting for some time in the kitchen. The waiting staff were apathetic and indifferent to us and other customers. The orange juice that was ordered did not arrive, and the waitress had to be reminded. A local speciality billed as a 'Breakfast Stottie' turned out to be one rather small white bread roll, with a couple of small rashers of cold tasteless bacon and nothing else. For this culinary treat, I was charged £3.95. A total rip off and a waste of money and time. Shocking rubbish.

We stopped off here by chance, passing through on our way down south from Edinburgh - my wife and I and our two 7 month twins. Some places can be phased by two babies but the staff were extremely accommodating, made room for our double buggy and got us 2 high chairs from their stack of several. We had the onion bhaji wrap and the fish finger stottie - both were really excellent; well cooked with tasty, well-seasoned bhajis and succulent homemade fish fingers. The chips were delicious too! All the staff were very friendly and the service was great. We’re already looking forward to stopping there on the way back!

Just wanted a peaceful seat in this beautiful town, good setting. But sandwiches were dry and tasteless, salad certainly not fresh, coffee was so so, waitress seemed friendly enough but overworked by what seemed to be the brash woman in charge, no care or professionalism, discussing private matters in front of customers, wish I had read the other reviews sooner and went to Melvyns Bistro opposite.

Visiting Alnwick we were seduced by a menu offering “Ultimate Beef Burger and fresh Veggie Burgers” Sadly when we received our food it was over cooked and had no flavour. Chips were soggy and greasy. Limp lettuce and measly slice of tomato was a sad excuse at salad.

2 Luke warm coffees and 2 cheese scones ( at least a day old ) The coffee was just warm and not the best, the scones were dry and when asked to warm it was blitz in the microwave and far too hot to eat totally spoilt. Over priced and not worth giving this coffee shop a one star rating. Oh and you don’t get a leading brand of tomato sauce either....as we overheard “ could you fill that up with the red sauce, not the cheap cheap one but the one a bit thicker “ Says it all .............. never ever again!

Very disappointed today with customer service and food quality. Did not realise you had to order your meal from the till so stood being ignored by staff as if I was invisible!! Eventually ordered bacon and sausage bap which was greasy in a less than fresh bap. 7.70 for this including a cup of coffee. Come on Tesco. You can do better than this!!! Sad as this cafe was pretty good the last time I used it a couple of years ago.

I was there with a group of six. A wonderful place to stay, drink and eat. There are some odd reviews below that the owner was grumpy or miserable, which aren't true at all and we can assume those who have commented on such things have rigid standards of social norms that they think apply everywhere. Yes the owner doesn't smile. But he was pleasant, courteous, and checked in on us to make sure we were ok. He welcomed us warmly when we arrived in the cold, made sure we got to our rooms ok and made sure we were looked after. For lunch I had a lovely warm bowl of homemade tomato soup and a nice cheese and ham sandwich, it was very homely. For dinner I had fish and chips, a classic, and it was nicely beer battered. In the morning I had an English breakfast and again was well prepared. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The owner also directed us on what we could see on the island during the winter season. Again, a lovely place with lovely staff. Would recommend.

I don't know if it's just the day that we visited, but the experience was pretty bad. The person at the check out was very chaotic and tried to charge three completely different totals for my order before figuring out the right one. And she first made me wait while she ran after another customer to ask them to pay, but actually that customer had already paid. I don't personally have an issue with the pricing as long as the product and service was acceptable. The coffee was completely undrinkable. I mean, I took one sip and could not bear to put any more of it into my mouth. I even went back and paid for a Coke even though I don't like it, just to find a way of getting caffeine in for my drive that I could get down. I already suspected that any of their espresso based drinks would taste awful, so I ordered filter coffee from the menu to be safe. However, they just made an Americano (that's adding hot water to espresso) and when I pointed it out, they claimed this was filter coffee. If I knew they were still going to use the espresso machine I'd have picked a milky option to counteract the terrible coffee. The toasted sandwich I ordered was fine. I got the sense that the food is fine if you like greasy spoon menu items but I wouldn't risk anything else there.
