The Queen's Head in Rugby

Booked a table for 12:30 for my partners birthday for a party of 7. Arrived to a cold pub, lights off, seated to be told there was no front of house staff and we couldn’t have a drink. We will never be returning.

Sadly we have attended here a number of times, last time wasn’t so good. This time was the worst experience we had, poor service and bland food. Use to rate this place highly and recommend to others. Heard they have new owners/ management now. When asked about other staff say day off or one or two left. But it is a complete change of staff a slight little changes noted around different layout near bar. Different way to bring food out on big trays not cart now, warm towels at end are towels not one use, etc. food was not up to the standards I come to expect from this place, very bland hardly any flavour in curry. Don’t get me wrong still ate it, partner states mine more like a stew than a curry. The lamb in my dish was falling apart and great though just wish more flavour. Slight mix up on order with ordering two mushroom rice and getting one and one normal rice, but not a big deal. Staff not as jolly as before, one big put off was a staff member walking up and down right next to table all the time, I get why but abit over the top, like being watched and made uncomfortable. Sadly will not rush back again, really use to enjoy. They have some work to do but can be great again with some more effort.

Absolutely awful, the service was horrendous, meals were slapped infront of us, everyone was ignoring us and servers were arguing with eachother infront of everyone when serving food. Not only this when finally getting the bill as we decided to split it they just asked us to work it out and put it on card when what was only meant to be a £15 transaction then realised once home was charged £50! Once everything was paid and worked out they didn’t even notice or tell us they had over charged completely!! We had already booked the reservation therefore they had our number and not even called after we left to tell us they had messed up. customer service plays a huge part in your experience when eating out and I’ve never met such rude and ignorant severs. This has happened multiple times so can easily say I won’t be going back.

Lovely place, food was tasty, service was slow and not as friendly as usual. Bought a birthday cake for the celebration meal and they were unable to light candles and bring cake over to the table, left with cake and candles still in the box.

Feedback: The Queens Bretford British-Indian Restaurant and Bar (Queens Rd, Bretford, Rugby CV23 0JY) We visited The Queens Bretford for a family dinner of 9 today, located near Rugby & Coventry. Here’s our feedback based on the experience: Pros: The restaurant has a lovely ambience, and the fireplace seating area while we waited was a nice touch. The place looks clean and well-maintained. The staff were initially attentive, friendly, and welcoming when we arrived at 5 pm, with the restaurant being mostly empty. Cons: Despite the restaurant being quiet, the service took longer than expected. The food was disappointing in both quality and quantity. For example, we ordered the platter for four, which cost just under £80, but the portion size didn’t reflect the price—we had to order extras just to feel full. The spices in the dishes didn’t blend well, giving the meat an unnatural taste as if the flavors were added separately rather than cooked together. Our children ordered fish and chips, and they found the fish to be soggy and wet. Offers advertised weren’t the same when we arrived. Some items were unavailable on the menu, but this wasn’t mentioned until we tried to order. For a large group, this delayed things as we had to revisit the menu to make new choices. As the restaurant became busier, the staff seemed overwhelmed. By the time we went to pay the bill, Zak, who handled this, appeared distracted and dismissive. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive a goodbye or any thanks for dining with them. Final Thoughts: We likely won’t be returning in the near future, though Zak mentioned changes coming soon. We hope that includes improvements in food quality and portion sizes. We’ll revisit in 2025 to see if there have been any updates and will provide another review if there’s any noticeable change.

Customer service was good from the start to the middle of the service. Starters of poppadoms with the chutney came out very fast. Queens Bretford poppadoms are very fresh. My family and I liked our food. My starter which was shami kebab is the best shami kebab that I’ve ever tasted 🤤. My butter chicken was delicious. This restaurant is very popular and service is extremely busy. Everyone please remember to book your tables in advance. The only thing that Queen’s Bretford waiting staff have to remember at the end of every diner’s service is to thank their diners for their custom and to say goodbye to them. We all said thank you for their good service and said goodbye. Sadly none of the waiting staff heard us, as they were busy with service.

Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, good food. Not the cheapest but probably decent value for the quality. What more do you need!

The Sunday dinner was lovely. I had the chicken and there was plenty of it. The only disappointment was they didn’t have beef which I would have preferred.

Lovely setting and place, but sadly a decisively average, expensive meal. The meal looked the part but lacked the depth of flavour you would like/expect in an Indian meal. This is a relatively new venture so I encourage everyone to try it out for themselves, as all taste buds are different.

Wonderful Indian food! Loved the huge selection of starters, entrees and sides. Everything was absolutely delicious! Service was great too and it has a really good atmosphere. They have many traditional English dishes too but we all had Indian. We’ll be visiting again very soon!

We arrived early for our 7.30 reservation & was shown to our table within 10 minutes, after seated lovely waitress - Anna took our drinks order, was a bit confusing because 2 of the advertised beers on menu & 2 that weren't on menu they did, we had poppadoms with our drinks - they were stale & soft After 45 minutes wait we asked if someone could take our order. When we eventually got our meals which were not very warm, plates & food was more or less just thrown on the table, portion of rice missing Nan breads were mixed up & given to wrong person. One of the party had chicken supreme was asked if wanted chips or new potatoes, she ordered new potatoes. When it arrived had 3 mini potatoes, chips which she didn't want, had to ask for the veg as that was missing which was very poor as it was £12.90. Other than Anna, the rest of staff & service were dreadful. Worst Indian meal we've ever had, was our first visit & will definitely be our last. Was not just our table that had problems, the table next to us also has missing & mixed up. There were lots of staff there so couldn't blame lack of service on staff shortage. Certainly would not recommend.

We decided to go out for dinner last minute and managed to get an early evening booking. The restaurant has cozy decor and is welcoming. The staff were very attentive and helpful as well as being generally friendly and polite. The food was amazing and there was no sign of bright red food dye like you often see at India no restaurants and takeaways. We had onion bhaji and vegetable samosa to start. Both dishes were really fresh and tasty. For main we had chicken sashlik, lamb balti, mushroom fried rice and keema naan. Again the main dishes were very fresh and tasty with balanced spices (not hot because we chose milder dishes). We will be going here again without a doubt.

Had seen a positive Facebook comment about this place so decided to give them a whirl. Service was fantastic from start to finish, attentive informed staff. Amazing selection of foods. Our meals were very very good and extremely tasty and plentiful. Our naans were some of the best we'd ever had. Ambience was great, comfy seating, spacious, good sized car park. Ample wheelchair room if required. Shall be definitely going again and have already recommended to friends. Great place.

Our second visit to the Queens was again a valuable experience. A let did on an initial promise re roast dinner was overcome adequately with the Indian dishes, sincere apologies and very efficient and pleasant staff.

We were made very welcome and shown to our table. Drinks were ordered and received, we were given plenty of time to peruse the menu. Food was delivered and thoroughly enjoyed.

Hi as an Indian couple’s place isn’t really for us. The food is exactly the same just with varying degrees of spice added it’s the same sauce for every dish. Yes, also it is 100% created for the white pallet without sounding rude. There is a real 90s feel to the place, which would probably make it ideal for Brett Ford other curry houses in bigger cities, have upped their game so much compare to this it’s like a time warp. Such a shame when the press made out it was so good.

We chose this restaurant based purely on TA reviews as we were staying at a hotel nearby. The staff were very friendly & the service was very quick. We both chose from the Indian menu and the meals were both excellent. Full of flavour, not too spicy & freshly cooked. The salmon tikka was delicious and the peshwari naan was very good. All in all a very enjoyable visit & we would recommend giving it a try.

The Indian food may be OK but don't go for English it take an age to come then when it comes it's cold and the manager has nt got a clue the roast potatoes look like they've never seen an oven. RUBBISH !!!
