Very unfriendly pub if your not a local

Reading some of the reviews on here I think some people would find fault in anything and deliberately do to get cheap food. I haven't been to the Webb Ellis in years but was recommended it by a work colleague for our Xmas dinner. We arrived early and had increased our original party booking for the works Xmas party Warmly welcomed by Land lady Lisa, who although was busy still managed to seat us all quickly together with cheery welcome, a lovely Christmas tree and beautiful decorations was nice to see The Guinness is the best I have tasted in Rugby, the drink prices are very reasonable, but the wine was a little bland and needed lemonade . One of our party has a food allergy and it was refreshing to be asked that by the very friendly and knowledgeable waitress, before we started placing any food orders. Our party ordered several different items from the menu and was truly surprised by the quality of the food served all together and quickly, The communication between the bar/waitress and kitchen was excellent. I admit I did fancy the burger after seeing it come out. We was presently surprised by the portions for the money spent - food wise there was no complaints, although I did enquire about coming for Sunday lunch with my children, but was told the menu was currently restricted to Sunday dinners only?? . I would certainly return and 100% recommend for town centre pub food But suggest that the excellent menu not be restricted and limited on Sunday's only?. Not everyone wants a roast my kids would love the burger..

We went for a Christmas meal in a large group. Our table was the last to be served and we were there for 2 hours before getting anything to eat. The food was nice when it came. For dessert we were supposed to have banoffee pie but they gave us chocolate torte - our dessert was served so late that the rest of the group was leaving as we were trying to eat it so we didn't bother to ask the waitress about it. The waitresses were friendly.

I took my team out for a Christmas lunch, and must admit it was a little underwhelming. Food was overcooked and cold when it came out but no one dared send anything back as we had been waiting so long and just wanted something to eat. We had pre ordered the entire meal so could have been notified at sit down that there was no sticky toffee pudding but was instead notified when it was due on the table. We were offered alternatives to which most went for a christmas pudding. 5 minutes later the waitress appeared again stating that the christmas pudding would take an additional 40 mins. Everyone changed their minds again and even though no christmas pudding was ordered, 45 minutes later pudding arrived including one single very cremated christmas pudding, even though no one had ordered it. Overall the experience was not pleasant with most of team opting to not return in the future. I do think the waiting staff did their best being very kind and friendly but seems management was a little lacking and the kitchen was struggling.

Awful. Burnt burger. Plate filled with chips. Inedible. Second visit here and it was worse than the first visit. Some of our Christmas party waited and waited and waited for their food. We had finished ours well before they got theirs. No more visits here.

I live in rugby, and this was my First and unfortunately Last time I will be visiting William Webb Ellis. Went with a Large group of people today, most of us refused to eat. Drinks: I had 2 pints of coke, both flat, Seemed like Lots of Syrup, I saw some other people in our group get some Beer, And as a ex bar tender myself, I felt bad the Head on the beer was too large. Not worth the money at all. Starters: I can at least Say the Starter of Breaded mushrooms were Good, But from there it was downhill. Main: Festive Burger and Fries. The Turkey on the burger Smelled like fish, Very off-putting, Chips were Very salty, but Also Cold. Refused to eat it. Sides: Maple syrup pigs in blankets & Festive mac & cheese with Chicken. Sausages were still raw inside, and chicken was cold. Pudding: The Chocolate Tart was Very Sickly, The only best part would of been the ice cream. Looking at the Turkey dinner some people had, The potatoes were Like rocks, hard and burned, Had to break them open to see what they were, Stuffing Burned like a Ping-Pong ball. We are meant to Look forwards to Having a Christmas meal out, But This has put me off. Very Disappointing. But, I do want to Say thank you to the Staff, Lisa as well for Taking on what we said, And Taking off some of the Cost's Reducing it all under £20 per person.

This was booked for young adults with learning disabilities, meal booked for 12.30pm, menus sorted, deposits handed in, 18 people booked ready for their Christmas meal. On the morning the pub called to say meal is at 1pm!!! On arrival there was no atmosphere, no Christmas music we did ask we were told its the radio nothing they could do... white paper table clothes like we were going to a children's party. After waiting to be served with drinks for a while. We arrived at 12.45pm starters came out at 1.50 pm nothing special but ok. The main meal came out at 2.35pm appalling, dried up burnt stuffing balls, gravy was like water, roast potatoes that were that burnt there was no potato inside, Turkey luke warm and smelt, veg soggy broccoli no colour. Most returned untouched, should never of been served up in the first place. A further wait of 1/2 hour before pudding arrived, of which 2 never even arrived. This experience for young adults who were looking forward to their Christmas meal is not exceptable... We will never return.

We booked the William webb Ellis for a small Christmas gathering and ordered from their Christmas menu… the food was delicious, plenty of it, the table decor and crackers were of a good standard, service was great… we all had a lovely evening…

A gem of a pub that has a great selection of ales and beers. Staff were happy and nothing seems too much trouble. The new menu is just what the pub needed and the Sunday Lunches are even better than they were.

We had a Sunday Dinner, it was lovely, loads of vegetables, mash potatoes, the Yorkshire was massive. The service was excellent too. Would definitely recommend.

I took a friend out for Sunday lunch and both both enjoyed our meal. The staff were really friendly and made us feel welcomed.

Popped back for a pint whilst passing through and the Pedigree was spot on. New menu looks good to so will be back to try this when next in the area.

Really great visit, it's a great pub, lovely breakfast and staff ...big heads up to the lovely guy serving who was ace and incredibly friendly, and a thoroughly good human, despite having to deal with one of the worst humans ever! You are a great polite guy, she'll always be a rude, obnoxious woman who clearly can't see that the menu just says very clearly Tomato, not "Grilled tomato"🤣 Thank you for being so lovely to us, and a good start to our day 👍

I went with an individual with special needs, and both the customers and the staff were so helpful and understanding. The food was delicious, too. I hope I am able to return in the future.

Such a special pub under the experienced hands of Karen and Derek who are being forced out by the Brewery. Theses breweries get far too greedy and are destroying pubs. Three local pubs are on the brink of closure due to the owners. We had an amazing lunch and the nicest fish I have had in a long time. The batter was light and delicate. The atmosphere was great and the pub busy. Derek and Karin always have time for everyone and it is always lovely to go there receiving warm welcome each time. I will not be going when they leave, though I have given allot of cutom in the past. I can not cope with nasty, vindictive, greedy brewery chains and dozy area managers who do not know a pint from a schooner.

Nice pub but it's always empty hardly anybody around. I don't come here often because every time I've set foot in here just no atmosphere. But I've heard it's closing in August ? Most pubs have disappeared over the years in the town. Just not worth going out.

Lovely pub we went there after the bikefest also had marvellous puddings

Didn't have time to try the food but I will on next visit but the beer was fantastic even better because they had a beer festival on they are very friendly and helpful in there defo find this pub.

Had a great visit last time so came back with some friends. The ale was some of the best we found in Rugby in several pubs we visited. Will make this a regular stop when next in Rugby

What a beautiful place.id never been before until yesterday. We were there for an after funeral gathering. The staff were amazing, polite and friendly. The food was lovely on the buffet. We even got chips. They also made my mum and I an extra cheese sandwich. The coffee was nice too. I will definitely visit again. Many thanks kara.

Update 26/4/23 Went for the mini fish, chips and mushy peas this time. Decent size for a mini and lovely light crunchy batter. Always a pleasant experience at this pub. Update 29/11/22 Lunch again with friends. Tried their chilli and rice this time. Good chilli and I can honestly say accompanied by the best rice I've ever had in a pub - proper fluffy well-cooked long grain rice! Update 31/7/22 - four of us popped in on the off chance of some food after returning from the Commonwealth Games in Coventry. Despite the place being very busy with Sunday lunch trade, they fitted us in with hot chicken and turkey sandwiches, which hit the spot. Update 28/3/22 - lunchtime offer is now 2 mains for £12. Sign of the times! Went for lunch with a couple of friends. Good value at 2 mains for £10: choice of about 10 fairly simple dishes, nicely cooked and presented. A decent range of beers too.

Nice, cosy place. There was a live band playing when we got there. We decided to sit out as but some other customers ( I guess there were drunk) started troubling us, so we decided to come back in. I'm glad we did as it was nice music, and the ambience was quite good. Overall, I ll say it is worth a visit.

Great pub quiz on a Sunday with friendly atmosphere

It was my first visit for Sunday Lunch. The food was excellent, even though it was busy the service was good. Staff excellent. You do need to book! Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal! We plan to go again soon👍

Not loacal to Rugby, Only been in a few times as my car gets repaired at the local tyre garage, But I will say the food and beer are good, cosy atmosphere and the landlord is spot on remembering my drink months apart .

Great roast dinner beef was beautifully cooked. Very nice and well worth the money. Chocolate fudge cake and ice cream after stunning.

We'd always walked past but never come in. This is a nice pub. Very cosy inside. The food was very good, the steak and ale pie is what I had. And I would give it 10/10. What more could you want from a pub? Definitely recommend! Thank you!

Had Christmas party there last week, food was bad. Pate worse than Aldi, toast for it was thinner than a piece of single ply. Would not recommend

Excellent Posh Fish Finger Sandwich:) Five of us had lunch here, Lasagna looked delicious:) Brown Bread wasn’t the crap stuff, really enjoyed it. Thank you All our plates where empty, No coffee ( disappointing ) but not the end of the world. Food took a while to arrive, but worth the wait and we where chatting.

A classic easy to go to pub with a mix of friendly people who are happy to socialise and chat. I went on a band night there was a vibrant great crowd.

Been in this establishment a good few times for just a drink, meeting or social gathering and always found it most welcoming but never before for a meal. The meal experience changed last Sunday 18th September 2022 when our family booked a table for eight for my brother in laws 70 birthday. The meal was excellent and the service very friendly. My sister in law paid for it all so I can’t comment on the value but she is no fool so I assume that too was splendid value.

Fantastic landlord (Derek?), really welcoming. Nice comfortable interior and good range at decent prices. Food was exceptional for the price and the portion sizes are unbelievable! Nothing not to like and will be returning often.

On the Cask Marque Ale Trail, so therefore deserving at least one visit. It's a good pub, unsurprisingly bedecked with rugby memorabilia. Unfortunately on the day of this reviewers visit, there was only one ale available, the place had suffered a power outage and cash only transactions taken. Admittedly not the ideal situation to cast an objective review - perhaps a further visit will improve the rating.
