Went last night for our wedding anniversary. From start to finish we both loved the night. Waiter was friendly and funny/chatty, both meals were perfect without any issues and drinks came out straight away. Restaurant was near fully booked so glad we booked ahead as we did see a few couple arrive later and we think we turned away due to lack of tables. The sign of any good place is a customer returning and we noticed a number of tables speaking to the staff about what they had last time as well as stating they'd see them again soon. Also on this groups who couldn't sit in opted to eat outside just so to have a meal. We will be going back again for sure.

I googled dog friendly pubs and this one came up. Obviously not dog friendly!

Perfect place for lunch for the whole family. Their cocktails are off the chain!

Met a friend there for lunch. Two men had ham, eggs and chips. I had a burger with bacon and goats cheese. Two of us had thin chips but one had chunky chips which he said were the best chips that he had ever had. All food was excellent, service good and meal arrived quickly.

Went for Sunday lunch which wasn't great tbh. Had to return the beef as could hardly cut it let alone chew it. Replaced no problem with turkey which was OK. Cauliflower cheese tasted and looked very much like came straight from freezer and at just shy of a fiver! Sticky toffee pudding was cold but soup sponge was very nice. Service was OK but wouldn't go back I'm afraid.

Stopped here on our boat and had a very nice lunch with a few friends. Staff were lovely and prices reasonable. Now stopped several times and staff and food are still excellent. It has now become a regular stop for us.

I'm never disappointed when I visit Rose and Castle . It's become my go-to place , even though it's really local. The food is so much better than the food churned out by the chain pubs. Also, the gluten-free menu is much better .

Went with a large party for supper. Has a giant wedge of brie in breadcrumbs with cranberry sauce. Freshly cooked, hot and tasty. I then had the fish pie which was excessively hot! Nice bottle of white Rioja. My friend also had a cocktail- a snowball which I haven't seen on a cocktail menu for a while. Pleasant evening. The pub was very busy!

Absolutely amazing food! Huge portions and really really tasty! Service was exceptional! Staff were so friendly and attentive!! Lovely atmosphere!!! I had the homemade lasagna and it was divine!!

Went on a Saturday evening. The staff are really friendly and professional. The food was excellent and reasonably priced too. We'll definitely be returning.

Dogs not allowed so wasn’t possible to try the food, just had a drink outside. As a Canalside pub, you’d expect it to be dog friendly as most boaters have canine companions. I won’t go there again

A great place to have a Sunday roast for us both. Easy parking and canalsde access to a play area. Food gorgeous and well presented. Lots choices and they adapt to your choices too. Staff very amicable and helpful. We will be back again ... 😁

Went to the Rose and Castle today and thought that the food was very expensive will not be going back. I had the Massaman curry which was awful should have complained but didn't for €16 95 expected better food .

Went on recommendation and it certainly lives up to that.. Very friendly staff who make you feel comfortable straight away and the food was outstanding. My friends and I had various meals and they were all absolutely delicious and plentiful and the puddings were pretty okay too ! lol (apart from the calories) Large car park and overall excellent will certainly be going again

I went to the Rose and Castle on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. It was very busy when we walked in, which is always a good sign, but we were warmly greeted and found a table. The food was home cooked and lovely, with big portions. One of us had fish pie, which was apparently lovely, and I had the veggie pancakes, which were delicious. As a vegetarian it was also lovely to have more than one option on the menu. There was an entire section I could chose from, which veggies rarely get. Too many places put one token veggie dish on and think they are catering for veggies, they are not. The Rose and Castle however, had a really good selection of dishes. Both our dishes came out hot and freshly cooked. We were both so full we couldn’t manage dessert, but bought homemade cheesecake to take away, which was also very good. I liked the option to take dessert away as so often I want a dessert but can’t quite manage one! The service we received was effiecnt and friendly, despite it being a busy lunch time. We will definitely be returning

Visited on a Sunday eve about 5.30 and were politely told kitchen closed at 6. We were given the Sunday menu but asked if it were possible to have something off the weekday menu; they were so helpful. Nothing was a problem and all our food was delightful; outstanding really. Up there with the best pub food we’ve had. Way better than soulless pub chain food that is everywhere these days.

Beautiful food and good service. Only down point was it was absolutely freezing in there, sat down the steps and could feel a really cold draft, put my coat back on eventually as I was shivering. Had desert which was lovely but the custard had clearly not been stirred in the microwave as it was cold in patches.

This pub is excellent find great varied menu something for everyone. There's plenty of food on the plate so you need come hungry. The pub is clean with loads of tables the staff friendly and approachable they make you feel welcome and the service on my visit was fantastic. Good choice of beers and wine. I definitely recommend and will be back.

Been to The Rose and Castle on two occasions, 5 people in early December and 14 people on 28th December before son’s wedding at Coombe Abbey. The menu is amazing, the food was delicious and the staff exceptionally friendly. Everyone was really happy with the meals they chose. An excellent venue, just wish we lived closer.

We booked a three course festive Christmas Dinner. We all chose Brie and cranberry parcels for the starter. What a delicious start and they were so tasty. The turkey dinner was plentiful with turkey, pigs in blankets, roast and new potatoes and a good assortment of perfectly cooked vegetables. Two of us had Christmas pudding which had a boozy hit and delicious. The other two had the meringue and fruit cheesecake. The staff were friendly, very attentive and we were well looked after. Looking forward to the next visit. looked after.

Honestly the girl who served us deserves a raise she was so funny and she could have a good laugh with us her service was genuinely the best I have seen in a long time I think her name was Emily or Emma either one but thank you for the food service young lady your doing a great job 👏 😌

Delightful food excellent service and friendly staff. We were a table of 10 and although the pub was quite busy we were well looked after and the food was of a high quality and delivered quickly to the table.

Great pub with great food. Dogs not allowed in so summer only for us – and no food in the garden either.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. The pub has lovely feature beams. There's a great variety of choice with the food, unfortunately the price of some of the specials (e.g. around £6 for 3 chicken goujons) was a bit steep.

As always excellent all round, even on a extremely busy Sunday lunchtime

Best place locally for quality food and service

We had planned to come to Ansty on our travels on the canal and knew about the Rose and Castle! We were going to come here for food but didn’t book as were no certain we would make it! We went on a Wednesday night and it was fully booked so we had to sit outside! However, food still came quickly and the staff were incredibly friendly! Reasonable prices too! If you want to come here, make sure to book!

We originally only had a couple of pints here. Not much of a selection of real ales but the golden ale grew on us. Went back a week later for dinner. I was pleased to find there were lots of veggie options, catering for a range of tastes, although a little heavy on the cheese. My partner had beef and chicken strips in peppercorn sauce, which he really enjoyed. We were both far too full up for dessert, maybe next time! Helpful, friendly staff, prices very reasonable.

I love this place! The menu is vast so there's really something for everyone. I've been twice now and both times the food has been brilliant and the team have been friendly, personable and really helpful. The atmosphere is great too, it's a lovely old building with exposed beams everywhere and a dramatic fireplace as a centrepiece. You know, months after having it I still dream about the creamy cajun chicken...

A very extensive menu, and the food proved to be fantastic. Excellent, very attentive staff. The best venue by far that we’ve found on the North Oxford canal.

Great service and food. We were all happy with our choices of mains of chicken, ham, burger and prawn main with chips. Child’s portion of spaghetti bolognaise with garlic bread was good and really tasty. The desserts were huge luckily we decided to share. Ice cream 3 scoops was overflowing in bowl. Service was great friendly and efficient.

Really pleasant staff, goodmportions of food and reasonably priced. Ideal for those on the canal and narrowboating. Only 5 minute walk from canal mooring. We wiĺl repeat the visit next time we are on the canal.

Service was a little slow but staff were busy and very polite. Food arrived and was available in small plate, medium or large. Food was tepid when it arrived and went cold very quickly. We were hurried away as the table was booked again. Not good considering the slow service had meant we ran over our spot. Having said all that the staff were working hard to keep up with the demand.

The Rose and Castle is well worth a visit ,it may look a little dull from the outside but inside a warm welcome from really pleasant and busy staff awaits ,very comprehensive menu great value and freshly cooked !! I travel to the area frequently on business and this place ticks the boxes for a great well served meal in a relaxed and interesting decor 😎 Keep up the good work 👏

Visited here with my good friend Nigel. Staff were really helpful and friendly despite being run off their feet as this pub is an attraction because of the food. My word. I can see why it is so popular. I had cajun chicken pieces and my friend had peppered chicken. The dishes were to die for. Absolutely gorgeous. Everything on the menu sounded fabulous, and I'll bet you couldn't go wrong picking anything off of the menu. We'll certainly be coming back. I'd definitely recommend booking in advance due to the popularity.

Great food and nice atmosphere.

From the roadway outside we thought the pub may be closed, but as soon as we walked in, we were immediately engulfed in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Our booked table was ready, the menu was comprehensive and food reasonably priced. We were celebrating a birthday and everything went smoothly allowing us to have a most enjoyable evening in a convivial atmosphere. PS The staff worked the restaurant as an efficient team. It made a busy place calm, as only a well oiled machine can.

We were on the Canal Boats traveling through, Stopped and called for a nice pint, we sat on the outside seating area because we had dogs, The staff inside the Pub made us feel very welcome. What I did see of the food in the bar, it looked very tasty!

Visits here never disappoint. Food is great, staff friendly and I would say good value for money. We were sat right opposite the main door and with it being a windy day we got a little windswept, but hey that is the British weather for you. That's the only reason I have dropped a star today. It won't stop me returning!!!!!

We are on a Friday evening and wouldn’t have got a table without booking. It’s much better inside than it looks on the outside! Menu was simple but extensive. Good pub food rather than anything flashy. Prices were reasonable and the quality of the food very good. Service was friendly and not rushed.. Less than 10 minutes walking distance from Ansty Hall where we were staying.

Nice setting, friendly atmosphere and staff, plenty of parking and great outdoor space

I visited this restaurant for the first time on 4th February 2023 as a convenient meeting point for a gathering of family members from around the country. We all ordered different meals from the extensive menu, which included vegetarian/vegan dishes as well as some unusual meat-based items and a good selection of traditional pub fayre. Our meals all arrived together and looked amazing. As for quality and taste - I don't think you could find better anywhere, it was simply delicious. I almost marked this review down a star because the urinals in the men's toilets were leaking all over the floor, making a disgusting mess. However, having sampled the outstanding food, I felt I had to give it top marks despite any other shortcomings. My only other complaint would be the dreadful "background" music that seemed to have so much bass boost that all you could hear was a distracting "thump-thump-thump", that interfered with normal conversation. Why is it felt that such noise is preferable to a quiet environment where friends can talk in comfort? However, as I have already indicated, the sheer quality of the food outweighs all other considerations, and the staff couldn't be faulted for their attention and service, making the dining experience a real pleasure, so I give this place 5 stars and look forward to a return visit before too long.
