The Queens Head Inn has recently had new landlords and some modern improvements have been installed. The food is excellent. A good selection was available for Sunday lunch. The restaurant and bar area have good guest Wi-Fi service and the new landlord, landlady and staff are very pleasant indeed. Great customer experience. Thank you all.

I visited The Queens Thursday afternoon and rated till Friday morning. A great welcome I then went to my warm, which had the fluffiest towels I had seen in a hotel. The menu is varied I chose the Ham and Eggs, so glad I did the ham was amazing. After a lovely fun evening I retired to my room for a lovely sleep. In the morning I was greeted with a first class full English, local produce included. Thanks to Kate Richard and the team for a great stay, see you again soon. Oh I nearly forgot Great crumble for dessert

Visited a few times over recent months and wow! What and transformation! We’ve experienced good beers, good food and fabulous service with a smile. One Friday we were running late and a simple phone call ahead reassured us we would be fine. Hard to argue with that. It’s night and day better than years gone by. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

Well where do I start with this place such nice staff and the food was amazing due too a lovely chef called Liam and the staff was mainly lovely too us when the manager finally left As it was her that was the problem. Shelly another lady she was the only one who was nice. We was greeted by the manager who seated us we then all ordered drinks For the 4 of us I was the only one challenged for iD even know I only wanted a cider and was having a meal and my mum was there. Now by law your allowed a drink with your meal at 14 !! And the worst thing is I’m 26. This lady had a massive issue since the get go. Any way that’s not even the worst we then had too pay for our drinks Before she even gave us a chance too order food what was odd you do not do that we wanted too do the bill all together then was left all sorting Who owes what. any way then our food came and I asked the moody lady who was dealing with us good old bev hope you read this you rude old hag because you did in fact have mint Sauce for my pie what you claimed you didn’t I asked for some sauce for my steak pie mash and gravy !!! And they reckon I say they she reckons they had non then cheek of her asked us too keep it down because there was people eating !! There was 2 tables in a pub where you eat have a nice drink you should be able too talk and laugh my mum was showing my sister who we hadn’t seen us in 7 years and was showing a video of my baby brother and she had a problem with the noice this lady shouldn’t be working there at all she wouldn’t even change my mash for chips even know when I asked the chef after we had our food was I allowed chips and they said yes you can swap so we don’t know why she said that but then also she never wanted too give me any mint Sauce she actually challenged why I wanted it with my pie. If I want sauce with my pie bev I should get that who ever the bosses are here need too get rid all the reviews are about her rudeness I’m telling you guys if you walk in and see an old tall lady looks a little like a bus has been smashed into her face the looks from her are that brilliant. Don’t ask me too call bev because you won’t enjoy it because I hope you all know it’s her who replies too all of these messages any way I hope too contact your official bosses because me and my family are disgusted and you picked on me clearly because I was gay out the lot of us .... nice one bev nice one.

Myself and my wife popped in to this pub restaurant on the way home. And got a table , but would recommend booking to avoid disappointment. We both had a wonderful meal . The pub also had a nice atmosphere to it and our waitress Charlie was very friendly. Only one little blip, they had run out of almond biscuits with the coffee. So l call them Peter Pan biscuits, you to imagine they are there. Anyway to make up for it the coffee was nice

Two couples at a loose end on New Year's Day, we phoned around for a place that was open and serving lunch. We found The Queen's Head. We're new to the area, so we hadn't been there before. We will definitely go again. A few of the items on the menu were unavailable for various reasons, but our lovely waitron, Jonas, was happy to recommend alternatives. One member of our party has several dietary restrictions, and they were able to cater to these. We had mains, dessert, drinks and coffee. All of which were lovely. I particularly recommend the clementine tart for dessert. As it happens, I had originally ordered a choux bun, but they were out of those. The clementine tart was plan B. I suspect it was the better choice anyway. We will be back.

If you like winding passages and an extensive menu this may well suit you! We fancied some real ale, the menu quotes guest beers and Abbot Ale but we were only offered IPA. We both selected pies from the menu. My partner's lamb hotpot had a nice flaky top and plenty of tender lamb. Sadly for my 'award winning. beef and Ruddles ale pie looked good but was soggy and heavier on gravy than meat. As for desserts , the apple crumble was a bit on the jammy side, having been cooked in a shallow dish. My strawberry profiterole had a good balance of sweet sour and creamy. Both service and prices were Ok.

Arrived at 13.45 and asked could we order food for the party of 6 in the pub garden. Answered with an errm yes. Ordered drinks and on returning to the bar to ask for a children’s menu was told that because there were two tables of five that had just ordered he wasn’t prepared to put the chef under any pressure with more orders due to the temperature in the kitchen and work load as the kitchen closed at 3pm!Forgive me if I’m wrong but the in had seating for over 50 people but can only cater for 10. I couldn’t believe my ears. If there was an issue we should have been told when we first asked if it was ok to order food to the pub garden rather than sitting down, getting my daughters hopes up of a lovely pub lunch only to be told we couldn’t order food! Never known anything like it. Anyone wanting food here take note, if you walk in wanting to order and it’s past 12pm with more than two tables taken walk back out the way you came in!!

We called in late, on the off chance, as a family of 5, (2 of them being exhausted 5 year old boys...) lateish on a Friday night (we had been travelling from out of the area) no reservation, with one party member having a gluten intolerance. The staff could not have been nicer, more patient, kind, welcoming, wonderful, friendly and attentive. So good with the kids, and let us choose a table to suit of the ones available. And had most amazing lovely Gluten free options!! I was expecting a nightmare meal of just essential dining (just because as I thought the boys were past the point of being awake enough to last a meal!) and it turned out to be a fantastic night, with lovely food - and all made possible by the great atmosphere and service of this Pub. Went to the Queens Head today at noon expecting to be able to sit and eat lunch. We were greeted by a lady who said hope you are not planning on eating here we have a function and I cannot do anything till 1.30pm. I pointed out that I had checked the webpage and she said well we don't let people know . They had also put the boards out saying come and eat lunchtime menu. Found her to be very abrasive. This has now happened twice in two weeks being turned away. No point in going here to eat. Also we drove past at about 12.30pm and there were only 8 cars in the car park. Felt very uncomfortable by the way we were spoken to so wont be returning again. The small bar was empty and we could have sat in there and eaten a meal no one else was in there but this was not even offered. Poor customer service. So went and ate somewhere else who were very accommodating.

Food was ok, but the woman in charge was ore interested in catching up on her admin on the reception desk. We managed to eventually her attention to get us a second drink. I ordered 2 halves of Aspall cider. When I got her attention to ask for the bill it was slapped on the bar. I eventually got to pay the bill, but was so put off by her attitude that I didn't bother checking it. When I got home I discovered that I had been charged for 2 pints. Put the bill in my wallet in case I was passing at a later date. A week later popped in to rectify the overcharge. The same woman was behind the bar and was happy to refund the difference. It was 5 30 and I opted to have 2 halves instead. We were asked if we were likely to be eating, replied just having the one drink. As a result we were banished to the empty bar next door. The bar is very drab, I have been in more cheerful undertaker waiting rooms. Drunk our cider and left. There were no other customers the whole time we were there.

I have visited the Queens Head on multiple occasions, with my family and with my boyfriend. This is by far the best Old English Inns pub in the surrounding area as the service is always fantastic. The staff are all so friendly, chatty and lovely, especially the lady with long light blonde hair (I assume she's the manager). The staff are all attentive but not invasive. The venue is very cosy and comfortable. The triple chocolate brownie is the best chocolate brownie I have ever had, no where else compares to this as it is gooey and so chocolaty. My wife and I were passing by and dropped in for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was not tremendously busy but there were several occupied tables and the bar being served by, seemingly, one member of staff. We were greeted promptly and shown to a table. Orders were taken and drinks and food were delivered remarkably speedily to our table by the single, efficient, polite and accommodating member of staff. We both had the steak and ale pie with vegetables and chips, which was very tasty if a little heavy on the pastry. Desserts were not quite as good with the apple and blackberry in the crumble being more like jam than fruit and with only a tiny pot of custard and the banoffee pie needing more banana. In all it was a pleasant lunch at a reasonable price with good service.

I had n`t visited the Queen`s Head for ages, and as we`d driven past regularly, we decided to have a look. We booked for Saturday night, although we did n`t need to as it turned out. We were greeted warmly and although my beer choice and first choice from the menu were not available, we quickly ordered and settled down. My Dad, the birthday boy, had a starter , and fish and chips from the Saver menu. For £4.99 a decent range of regular pub classics, and decent portions too, enough for my dad anyway. Nathan was engaging, and looked after us well. The menu was fairly standard, but was quickly brought to us and was hot and tasty, good value for money too. The only other people that we encountered seemed to be dining hotel guests, and the locals in the bar, which was in a different room. The restaurant has a good deal to get people in, and good food, good value, friendly staff, but the decor is tired and needs updating. There are a great number of pub/restaurants within a few miles, in direct competition, and it`s a great shame that The Queen`s Head is likely to miss out, for the want of a contemporary makeover.

Let down by the horrible blonde waitress (appeared to be manager!). This pub is by far from anything special, but we thought we’d try the food here as we have only ever been in for a drink and have heard mixed reviews from friends. Went through to the restaurant which had only one other table in who were about to pay, were seated and got our drinks. Whilst the ‘delightful’ blonde waitress was half way through taking our order, she rudely and abruptly said to my partner “you’re going to have to take that hat off though”, both myself and my partner awkwardly laughed in disbelief, she then added “did your mum never teach you it’s rude to wear a hat inside” - this is no way to speak to paying customers and is by far a lot ruder than wearing a hat inside. You have no right to demand someone to take off their hat and make them feel uncomfortable and embarrassed - you do not know the reasons behind why someone may be wearing a hat inside, hair loss from illness treatment, alopecia, skin conditions or even just very self-conscious about their appearance. We spent the remainder of our meal feeling very let down and offended by the comments we received from this female, judging by previous reviews other people have experienced similar from this lady! Making customers feel uncomfortable is not a way to make them want to return. Food wasn’t totally dreadful - starter and burger were okay, although the Mac and cheese was like chewing a brick! It is definitely not anything worth being spoken to so rudely for! Although our evening was totally ruined by this woman and we left rather cross, I must give 100% credit to the lovely smiley waiter who was attentive and friendly, such a shame your colleague let’s the place down....

Service was on the rude side but perked up later. Menu looked great; lots on offer but soon became apparent that execution wasn't great. Ordered a jacket potato which had been microwaved and was lukewarm. Friend ordered hunter's chicken which was a complete rip off for 12 quid in terms of quality and quantity. Very small and dry bit of chicken with a few chips on an enormous plate. Other friend said his ham, egg and chips was nice on the lunch deal. To be fair, it did look nice. The place itself was very clean and well-kept. But won't be visiting again. Would highly recommend Beds Arms Souldrop for hearty, homemade lunches at a fair price.

First time I have visited today and have to say the food was delicious. The fish gougons were outstanding, the batter light and delicious. The Ham and chips were cooked to perfection but the thing that let the whole experience down was the sullen, unhappy waitress/ manageress who served us. Miserable does not describe her, we never got a thank you or if we asked for anything she snapped 'In a minute I will be back.' Then when we were handed the bill my friend went up to pay and she promptly charged us another £5.45 because she had forgotten to put our coffees on the bill. No apology just you need to pay another £5.45. Her hosting skills leave a lot to be desired. Such a shame. When we arrived she asked had we booked no hello or welcome to the Queens Head is this your first visit - no in fact we were made to feel that we were not welcome. Suggestion please send her on a course on how to communicate with the public. I am not the only one who has noticed how unwelcoming your front of house staff member is. Food Excellent.

The four of us had a superb meal last night, the service was extremely good, attentive and friendly. I had the sea bass and scallops risotto which was first class. My wife had scampi which she thoroughly enjoyed, the others had Hunters chicken and sirloin steak all which were cooked very well. As can be seen from the meals we had the Queen's Head has a vey good, varied menu and at very reasonable prices.

I booked my colleague and advised that we would arrive late. We arrived at 9.50 and the receptionist was very surly and rude. In the morning I joined my colleague for breakfast and again the same lady was offhand to us both as she was to another person sitting nearby. However another man came down and she was friendly. It may be funny on fawlty towers but not in real life.! Avoid

We arrived on a Monday lunch time about 1pm. 4 of us. The blonde woman was behind the bar. Did not greet us. No hello nothing. We took a seat at the round table by the fire. She came and took our drinks order. But was just very rude. As if our being there was an inconvenience to her! Another table was in the restaurant part and they left not long after we arrived. She then decided to turn the lights off in the restaurant. Which was just strange as we were right next to it and it didn't make us feel very welcome! Like she was trying to hurry us along. The menu is not the same as the website. But the food was ok good portions but a little greasy! She really ruined our experience. I wouldn't return for that. We didn't feel welcome and felt very rushed! The gentlemen that served us our bill was lovely and very polite! Maybe retraining of staff is needed! Although I think she was management.

I had lunch with my mother-in-law who is in a wheelchair. The restaurant was somewhat accessible. The burger she ordered was not to her liking but they did accommodate us. My food was nice. I had chips.

I've been frequenting this pub for drinks on and off for years, and it's got a comfortable atmosphere. As a pub we quite like it. The last time was for a Sunday lunch though, and we were disappointed. The vegetables were all over cooked and the roast potatoes were soft, indicative of how they were being kept warm for the lunchtime session. I used to cook for a pub, and it's basic catering knowledge that's missing. We won't be eating here again.

Surprisingly good and quick. Scampi, fish, lasagne, chips etc.Main for as little as £4.99 and a sweet for £2.99.Even though there was only one waitress at lunchtime, service was fast and accurate.

I cannot comment on the standard of the food at the Queen’s Head, as myself and my wife did not have the chance to eat there ! The reason being is that we left due to the rude manner of the woman who was serving. I presume this is Bev, the landlady. From the moment we walked in, her manner was one of not caring at all about us, the customers. Although we were polite to her, she never once smiled nor made us feel welcome. Indeed, it was almost as if we were an “inconvenience”, or at best just taking us for granted as customers. We sat down at a table to look at the menu, and when she had prepared our drinks she just left them on the counter and said “here you go !” Surely, most restaurant staff would bring the drinks over to the table ?! I then enquired about the meal deal for £ 4.99 each, as had been clearly advertised on a large board outside, and the reason we had stopped to have a meal there in the first place. She informed me that they no longer do those deals on Saturdays – but it was her manner in how she spoke to me which annoyed me. She said “oh, we have not done that for four months now” but in a tone that was patronising and in a “you ought to have surely known that !” Despite the fact we are not locals and it was our first time there ! And in any case, after four months you would have expected her to have changed the board outside – it is not exactly rocket science is it ?! In the end, because of her gruff, abrupt and rude manner, we decided to leave. As we left, I said to my wife in an ironic tone “service with a smile !” (We went on to have an excellent meal at the Scald End Farmshop, near Thurleigh – where we had excellent customer service, in great contrast) So overall, we were very disappointed with Bev and I would seriously recommend she attends a “Customer Service” course ! It was her awful manner which made us walk out. I see that other reviewers on Trip Advisor likewise found her to be rude etc too. As I say, it was our first time there so we have no “axe to grind” or anything – but based on our experience I felt compelled to post an honest account on Trip Advisor, as I cannot abide poor customer service, and so we wished to expose it so that others may know. We will never return to the Queen’s Head, and will put the word about – friends, family and work colleagues, to avoid the place.

We chose The Queen's Head as the venue for our Christmas dinner this year and we certainly were not disappointed. We were a group of 23 elderly and disabled and found no problems with access or facilities.Bev and her team were very efficient from the booking process through to the service on the day.We received a very warm welcome in a relaxed atmosphere. The meals were served quickly and efficiently and were of good quality.Nothing was too much trouble.Everybody had a good time and I would certainly recommend this venue to others.

Having drove past this pub on dozens of occasions how could i not try it out.....i have tried most of them in the county after all!!.This compares favourably,a decent sized car park to the side/rear of the beautiful old building as well as a smallish outdoor seating area.We entered from the rear walking into an interior that had a back in the day feel about it.Staff greeted us and showed us to our table.Food arrived fairly quickly too and was piping hot....i had my normal Beef and ale pie which came with carrots, beans and mash,my wife had the hog roast burger....excellent portion sizes and fairly reasonably priced too.....there was a good selection of offers on the specials board too and they have a £4.99 cheap value meal deal on selected evenings too.I overheard a couple on a table nearby mentioning that they have stayed at The Queens Head recently......so i took it that this pub also does accommodation too.Very impressed.Visited Sept 2016.

We went back to the Queens Head 3 days after our meal to talk to staff to see what they could do if we help a celebratory golden wedding there. So so helpful knew what we wanted so we booked it there, after I might add trying meals elsewhere and this being the best. Keep you posted to how it plans out.

We stay at this hotel while going to the Twinwood festival. Rather than pay over the top for an average burger etc onsite, we break the day up by popping back here for a nice sit down meal. It's a chain so you kind of know what to expect, but it's well cooked, tasty and fresh and very good value. The salmon in particular was fantastic and cooked to perfection. Leave room for pudding - well try to as the portions are generous! - as they're really scrummy too.

We were recommend this place by Twinwoods up the road and I was not disappointed. The food was really nice and great value for money, staff were lovely and very welcoming. My only moan would be the dessert we had, they seem to be cooked in the microwave which was a little over done but don't let that put you off. We arrived late and they were happy to accommodate us so I'm very impressed with the whole visit.

I have just called, with my wife, at the Queen's Head at Milton Ernest. After a country walk we wanted a drink before going home. It was just after 2 p.m. and there were very few customers. First we were moved from a table in the large, empty dining area, ostensibly because a large party was due to arrive (?); then we were moved from a second table next to the bar. We were asked to sit in the deserted public bar.My advice to anyone who just wants a pub and a refreshing drink is to stay well clear of this depressingly unwelcoming place. It didn't help that the landlady finished every sentence she spoke to us with the word 'love' without any evident sense of irony.I cannot comment on the Queen's Head as a hotel. Rarely, however, have I been in a pub displaying less love than here. I won’t be back.

On arrival we were greeted by a very pleasant man who was very helpful. He arranged something for my daughter to eat even though the kitchen was closed as she was feeling unwell. He also arranged a taxi for us for the evening. Our rooms were a good size and very clean. Beds very comfortable. Good supply of tea/coffee and some biscuits and basic toiletries in bathroom. We had a relaxing drink in the lovely courtyard. Breakfast was quickly served, hot and nicely cooked. As with so many old hotels it could do with some updating. It was however full of character. Would stay again.

Been before and was very good, unfortunately this time it was not the best. We ordered drinks and then told that the menu was changing next week so lots of the menu was unavailable. We found a table to accommodate us but it wasn't clean. We ordered our food at the bar, the food was OK. We ordered a pudding at the bar. All the food was OK. But I was surprised that I had to pay 10% service charge. Such a shame to have had a disappointing meal at such a lovely little pub!

Most photos are of the park which is about at least 5 minutes down the road & not joined to the pub. I believe photos & info should be made clear, you can not enjoy a drink while your kids play in this park.
