The Queen Hotel in Calderdale

Very comfortable stay at this beautiful traditional hotel..with my elderly father and very well behaved dog. Its currently being refurbished so the bar and restaurant are not open but they provided an inclusive delicious continental breakfast..and with Weatherspoons next door and many other restaurants and quaint bars in town it was no bother. Easy convenient clean and very helpfull friendly service...could even see Studley Pike from both our rooms, Would stay here again..

I booked 3 rooms for this hotel with booking.com 11 months in advance. With only 4 weeks to go they cancelled using the excuse they were overbooked. When I called the hotel I was informed they had cancelled all reservations with booking.com for 3 months. My family and I are now left with nowhere to stay for a wedding as everything in Todmorden is gone.

was woken at 5am by train Tanoy which continued at regular intervals also a clock was chiming from 5am, host was rarely there

place to have Sunday lunch. Right next door to the train station, very easy to find, and under new management as previous reviews may be quite poor.

Started with the duck spring rolls; tasty but over fried making them too hard. Followed with the fish & chips; tasteless fish in a batter which I suspect was kept warm & subsequently lost it's crispness. This was served with a miniscule portion of peas.

We stopped here for a meal having come to Todmorden for a family funeral. Lady on the bar was very welcoming and pleasant. Food was lovely, served promptly and plenty of it.

The Queens is under new management and the two of us went last night for a taster of their new menu, all of the food was exceptional and came out promptly, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the new menu has a good range of choice for good value! Will definitely be returning and will recommend to others.

Shocking attitude of the young female bar staff. Rude and offensive. Walked out in disgust. Will NEVER ever return here. Cloudy allegedly real ale which was not exchanged or refunded.

We paid £78 for a night here. The room was clean and I didn’t expect anything more. We only wanted a hotel to sleep in. The breakfast was disappointing. Hot food would have been nice. When I think we have paid £100 to stay In the Hilton hotel it makes this hotel feel expensive for what it is however, it was fine and it was what we wanted for one night.

We were told that the carvery was being served from the kitchen which wasn't really a problem. However, the two meals served were not of a good standard. Both the beef and the ham, although plentiful, were tough and difficult to eat . Two small roast potatoes were served on each plate with the meat, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy. A dish of vegetables was also served, containing extremely small portions. No mashed or boiled potatoes were included. Neither diner has a particularly big appetite but the portions of vegetables served were paltry. No serving utensils were provided. Staff were peasant enough but seemed to lack the training necessary to provide a truly professional service.

The Queen was very accommodating to me, allowing me to store my bike safely in their (well stocked !!) beer cellar after washing it down with their hose. My room was spacious, cosy and warm. The bathroom could do with a bit of TLC (hence the 4 stars) but the provision of an early and very nice breakfast was very much appreciated.

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Our room was compact, but comfortable. Friendly staff, who were attentive. Ate in the restaurant. Good meals at reasonable prices. Would recommend the fish & chips.

On arrival we were told that the carvery is being served from the kitchen today. We asked how is this the case for a carvery and we were advised that all the sides come out on seperate dishes to your table. My beef was so cheewy I seriously started questionning if it has come off the steak someone else at the restaurant had send back before. There was no stuffing for the turkey and no seperate gravy jug, quantity of gravy poured on our plates must have been less than a spoonfool. No mash. The sides consisted of a small dish containing boiled potatoes carrots and cabbage and something looking like root mash. The restaurant would have done itself a favour just calling off the 'carvery' if it was to be delivered such a failure. Female waitress advised us both meals were the same when they contained different meats, clearly not a clue what's going on. I nearly got given my partners meal. Make waiter was helpful and polite only reason for the two stars and not one.

Went here yesterday and had the mussels and it was perfect.. highly recommended the service was great and the staff were friendly

hard to know where to start, everything was so bad. we've tried this place 3 times now in the last couple of months, hoping it might improve. no such luck. the service is ridiculously bad, staff always on their phones especially behind the bar. fish and chips was greasy as hell and obviously fried in very old fat. lasagne also had a river of grease on the top, the cheese was nasty cheap stuff. one of the tables had food all over the floor under it. there was only us and 1 other table, but none of the staff seemed bothered about cleaning it up. wifi didnt work either. for 2 months now...

Estábamos en Todmorden dejar un amigo en la estación, así superado nuestra visita a fit en almorzar juntos. Fuimos al Hotel de La Reina y decidimos probar el menú especial del día @ de 3 libras. 50 por un plato principal. Dos de nosotros tuvimos cigalas y patatas, mientras yo tenía la tarta de queso y cebolla, con patatas fritas y más por la judías. Fue buena comida de pub, seguido por 3 sticky toffee pudines. Con tés, todo el almuerzo para 3 llegó a 28 libras. Tuvimos un servicio excelente y no podría superar la calidad y el precio por la comida.

Went to The Queen for lunch. Had the special menu, was told they were slightly smaller portions, but when our choices came they were just right. It was the first time I had had scampi for about 30 years, but it was just as enjoyable as I remembered. Puddings followed and together with friendly helpful staff, we had an excellent lunch.

Don't know why I bothered went in got told unless you book you can't eat here yet it advertised it does Carvery and no where does it mention you have to book in advance so had to go else where with a 2 year old in tow

The wine was warm. We were sat near the bar and all we could see were 2 new toilet seats propped up against the bar and bags, coats, bottles of pop on the floor begin bar. Would not go again in a hurry.

Etablissement très correct. La douche manque de pression et le chauffage est pas très chaud. Cependant dans la région c'est plutôt courant.

We were driving through Todmorden and decided to look for a bite to eat.Turning off the main road we found the Queen on a small street with parking.The menu card on the table was very off putting being more then a little dog eared.However the food was better than the menu card.

We were regular visitors but were gradually reducing our visits due to the inconsistency of the food.We tried again in April and found the food to be really good and reasonably priced but wondered if they were going to continue to this standard.We are pleased to report that we have had food virtually every week since April and not only has the standard of the food been maintained but the staff are really helpful and welcoming.

Me and my partner visited The Queen for a meal and a few drinks. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. We honestly prefer dining here to anywhere else in Todmorden. We will definitely be back next date night.

Quite OK Sunday Roast but nothing special. The roastbeef was overcooked (well done). Gammon was good. Turkey was a bit dry, as it often is. Vegetables OK.

called in at six on a sunday after going to Top Brink and not getting a table,this was nearly empty,had the carvery for speed.pice was ok,plenty of beef but veg hard and luke warm,probley better earlier in the day when busy,drinks dear at £2 for a glass of coke

We have used this hotel to provide rooms for visiting friends, all of whom were pleased with their rooms and the welcome they received.

Went here with friends and we went just for a cheap pub tea as it was local and we were watching football, but the food was really good and tasty and at a reasonable price, the person who cooked our meal made a real effort and it was presented well, we all enjoyed our meals and we will be going back.

I arranged for a party of 17 to eat here on our return from a train trip into Lancashire. Despite the restaurant and bar having a small number of staff the service was prompt and efficient, everyone was served within a few minutes and the meals from the regular menu and blackboard specials excellent in choice and quality. The beef strogonoff, curry and turkey, ham and leek pie were particularly praised. Added to this were well-kept pints of Taylor's Landlord and Blond Witch and comfortable surroundings conducive to lively conversation.

Had a really nice meal and staff was really friendly. Would come back again. Was great with friendly staff at the bar. Portion sizes were big.

Beautiful food for a table of 50. Fantastic service and friendly faces. Recommend to anyone. Very lucky to live local to this welcoming pub/restaurant

If you're waiting for a train this is perfectly placed. Not very atmospheric or well decorated but there's plenty of space. Staff are friendly.

We've eaten at The Queens a few times now, above average food, although the standard can change from week to week, at a good price, the carvery is excellent value and very good, reccommended for a great pub lunch or evening meal, beer is good too,also sky sports

sticky floors always tell me something.....avoid. think its changed hands recently ie new manager. . its not somewhere I go often but has gone down hill drastically rec ently. snooty rude staff, very poor food sticky tables menu and floor. don't waste your money.... find some where else!!

Hands down the best breakfast in the Calder Valley. The magician that cooks breakfast here does it to absolute perfection. £2.95 is an absolute bargain. Quality ingredients, piping hot, tasty as hell. There are many alternatives in Todmorden but, frankly, you'd be crazy not to eat did this good.

Upon a recommendation we visited The Queen Hotel for their Sunday lunch carvery. The food was very good and a thoroughly acceptable roast dinner with all the trimmings which we all enjoyed. The restaurant / dining room was relatively quiet during our visit and we had to ask for service at the carvery counter as there was not a chef on duty. Also passed on dessert as it took some time for our table to be cleared after eating and we had to leave to catch a train. During busier periods there may be more staff on hand to be attentive to this type of thing and it was not a great inconvenience. Would visit again if in the area.

Arrived Thursday night staying until early Monday 07th December on arrival had two drinks at the bar decided to order our evening meal cheese onion pie /fish/chips for me shocking is the only word every thing was stone cold greasy chips cold peas paving stone in disguise of cheese/onion pie and so on why did we not send it back because we had just had to complain over our room and changed from room nine to room four. We had had a very stressful day moving house we never ate evening there again .

Not good, rump steak you could have walked home on, the cheese and onion pie was dry, the mushy Pease came in little ramakins, they held a teaspoon, asked for extra got another teaspoon! The sirloin was ok, spoke to mark who was embarrassed said he would take them of the bill, we said no we will pay but you need to know what is bieng sent out. Was thinking of going boxing day a party of 20, maybe not! Sad.

Standard pub grub. Fine for a quick bar snack. The menu could be more extensive and the wine by the glass is very limited.They do have a specials board. Handy if you are catching a train as it's right next to the station.

Will not return for a meal.It was very bland and typical processed fast food ,Nothing to recommend only the staff were friendly and typical Yorkshire friendly even if they were young.

We have only tried this place a couple of times, it is handily placed just opposite the Railway Station entrance, but that is the main thing going for it. It is close to the Wetherspoons , but in comparison has a more dated and shabby (in places) interior and the beer offering is mediocre. It has less real ale choices than the Wetherspoons , and when a CAMRA friend visited us he thought the beer available was disappointing. The food on offer is very bulk standard, and service is not particularly quick or anything special, all rather bland and forgettable. There are much better venues for real ale and food elsewhere in the vicinity,

Did a trip on the Rochdale canal in Aug 2015. Had a great meal in the Queen Hotel (cheap prices and good quality food especially for a hotel!!). Not located right next to the canal but only five minutes walk away and well worth the short trek. Nice surroundings and food/drink quality was good at reasonable prices. Would recommend.

Friendly local pub. Excellent food, properly cooked, served in a timely manner at a good price. Delicious and great value. A normal pub (as opposed to some gastro-pub) with great food, just across from the train station too. Couldn't be handier!

Four of us went, impressed by the place and the variety on the menu and specials board. I ordered a Venison starter off the specials board, and it was very tough and full of tubes. I got this replaced and this was ok. Off the specials board I ordered the sausage casserole, it looked good in its description, but before I ordered I asked the waitress how many sausages you got. She asked in the kitchen and said that they would all come in pieces.It arrived in a small oval dish, and there was 4 small pieces of sausage that had been cut up, that would have only just made a normal sausage before they were cut. It was in a very stodgy stew type mess, and tasted very poor. I sent it back and ordered the madras curry off the specials board. It came, and was that bad I have had tastier chicken in gravy granules. Didn't bother after that. Hopefully just a one off, certainly for me as I won't be eating there again. Shame because it is a nice building and they have got a nice restaurant area, just the food was awful.

6 of us came for the Sunday carvery and were very happy with the result. The 4 vegetarians were extremely pleased to be offered a Sunday nut roast (why places think we want pasta all the time is beyond me) and the two carnivores really enjoyed the beef. The starters were delicious, all home made but the carvery was really excellent with proper yorkshires and roasties in addition to the great choice of vegetable dishes. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere too, plus we brought the dog - perfect.

Had a family meal at this hotel food was very good had more than enough on plate at a reasonable price.location was excellent as train station is situated across the road.

Takes absolutely forever to be served, and it's not as if the place was packed or we weren't booked in. 1hr 20 min in to our wait the meals started to arrive with a long gaps in between so no chance for us to have the meal together really. Forget about greens, you get soggy chips and plain rice to accompany your meat. Looks like sizzling chicken was served in a manner of revenge for my "slow service" comment as it was so hot and full of red fat, it sprayed all over my clothes even when I pushed it away and attempted to defeat myself with a tissue. Venue gets two marks for decent meat and nice deco.

Varied menu but I always have the same thing - chicken sizzler - devine!! Nothing not to like, lovely place, friendly staff, lovely food.

Went with a party of 8 , food was ok , but chips and rice with same meal , how many carbs? An hour after ordering we eventually got our food in dribs and drabs , won't be going again

A lovely relaxing place to have a drink, friendly staff and food looks great will definitely be calling back for food as this time was a flying visit.

STAYED on 4th march in room 4 matt & all staff very good the room was ok no tv remote but was dealt with in minutes IT WAS the wednesday carvery £5.95 as much as u can eat a good meal Breakfast was good and the lady who served u was quick now the not so good really old carpet on staircase room doors not replaced on hotels revamp but really bad was the fag// ends outside the front side door hundreds and no joke ??? got this room on SPL £58 over priced £40 would have been right price ???

5 big people and 1 small person ate there on Boxing Day, around 6:00pm. We had 6 different meals and all were said to be of a good standard - better than your usual pub food was a general comment. The food was hot, freshly cooked and portions were adequate to say the least. Service was OK if a little disjointed.and the staff were polite and attentive. The cask beer was in excellent condition which is not always the case. I would, however, have no hesitation in eating there again.

Had several visits overctge Festive holiday, food excellent, well kept beer. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Me my mum and sister visited The queens for dinner. We ordered 3 main course, it took approximately one hour for our food to arrive, even tho in the dining room there was only 4 other people to serve. The food arrived it was OK nothing special at all, just ok. Not a bad place for a snack.

Not eaten at the Queens in a while so not sure what to expect when we booked. Very surprised by varied menu and specials board . Food was excellent and atmosphere very good . Definitely go again

Having popped out for lunch from work we were delighted to find it was not at all busy - in fact only one other table in the dining room was occupied with a family of 7, the other customers were drinkers at the bar so we thought service would be fairly quick..... no.... on the contrary. Drink orders were taken at the table - lovely touch - quickly followed by our food order. Over 45 minutes for our table of 5 considering how quiet it was is very slow. The service was great, the food lovely although beware - the Steak and Ale Pie is more Mushroom and Steak - no mention of the mushrooms on the menu and when I asked the staff why there was no mention of mushrooms on the menu I was told You'll have to ask the chef- luckily I only dislike them I'm not allergic!! Overall good food but don't go if you're in a rush.

All a load of rubbish,including the stay,terrible place, avoid at all cost,I also spent the night and really wished I hadn't,very rude bad tempered manager/man in charge at time of visit

We stayed at the Queen Hotel on the way up to the Grand Depart of the Tour de FranceMark the Manager could not have been more helpful and the Steaks we were served were superb.

I've been visiting The Queen for several months now. It's an ideal meeting place with a good selection of drinks and a quick and basic menu for those evenings when you can't be bothered to cook. The toilets could do with a clean and the hand wash facilities need looking at but, they serve a purpose. The bar music can sometimes take me back to a rave I attended in the 1990's and can be off putting when deep in conversation or reading the paper. The bar is reasonably priced and has a friendly atmosphere with polite and well mannered staff. I'll continue to drop by for it's convenient location.

After being told the Queens had been taken over by new management, I was hoping for good things. How disappointed was I!!There was only myself , friend and 4 other people who were there at the time and we were the first to order.I asked for 2 starters, prawn cocktail and potato skins, my friend asked for a BLT. Yet for some reason we waited nearly an hour for our food. I was hoping that when it arrived we would be impressed with the food to justify the wait.. yet again I was wrong. The potato was so over cooked that the bottom of the potato was black, the prawn cocktail tasted horrible and the BLT wasn't the best either.

We went to the Queen on Wednesday for the carvery dinner. It was a great meal at a very good price. The staff were attentive and very friendly - what more could you ask!!

8 of us went on a Saturday night. The place was almost full and everyone, including our party, was served cheerfully and efficiently. The staff were lovely and went the extra mile to ensure the diners' satisfaction. We all enjoyed our meals and would be delighted to return at any time. Can not think of any negatives based on the evening that we dined there.

went the queens for my husbands birthday it was a saturday night so we had the steak night special. 2 meals and a bottle of wine £20.very good value. Loved the thick cut chips , we sat for a few minutes waiting for someone to take our order should be made a bit clearer that you have to order at the bar .will go back as it is local to us

I have stayed here numerous times and it is a good hotel.The breakfast in the morning is good and the staff are friendly and polite.Food was good and good value for money.

went sat for a family get together heard they had a new chef but same old story crap food apart from chips but anyone can cook chips 1 member had fish pie smelt worse than a dirty trainor didn't pay for that spoke to manager and chef they cudnt care less there loss wont be goin again back to the polished knob for some good home cooked proper food .

We went for a family meal at Christmas for about twenty of us and almost everybody had a complaint. One children's meal was not paid for as it was frozen inside. The vegetables were hard and inedible. Plus other complaints.We went again yesterday for another family birthday meeting for fourteen of us. We had heard that it was under new management so hoped that the food had improved but no such luck! The fish pie was a load of mush and smelt funny. The vegetables were old especially the carrots and broccoli. The Italian.Chicken was almost £10 and again the veg were almost inedible. The carrots were old, large and unpeeled. Broccoli was hard. New potatoes large and undercooked. The person who had the fish pie and wrinkled carrots was given a free meal - not that she ate it! I left half of mine. I finished the chicken (but the sauce wasn't nice) as I felt like I had paid £10 for it. The manager offered us a free pudding but nobody wanted that as they were eating again later. They didn't offer the rest of us any reduction. The service was ok we had no complaints about that. I will definitely never go there again!!!

Went for Sunday lunch with family and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience the atmosphere the service and the food my granddaughter gave the food 1 million out of 8 as we were sat on table 8 bless her

Now you may think its a little too insignificant to review a bar lunch. But if you are like me and enjoy a well prepared steak and onion sandwich with a good quality beer then read on.I have had countless steak butties in my time (some poorly cooked and some overly chewy and fatty) BUT this one was without doubt one of the best ever. I am always tempted by this option on any pub menu and I am often disappointed. I don't like excessive fat or gristle which has ruined many a pub lunch in my experience, some of them were simply inedible. However my sandwich today was delivered cooked to perfection, the beef was succulent, tender and delicious. The onion was not just onion, it was a specially prepared onion accompaniment (almost relish like) and taste wise went together especially well. The devil is always in the detail and when someone goes the extra mile to make a simple steak sandwich special then I personally think its worth a special mention.I had San Miguel to drink with it but next time I am having a glass of Red, maybe Cab Sav to go with this, as this would do much better justice to a simple but special pub lunch.From a selfish perspective I hope this new manager stays and prospers, but not too much as I like my favourite table!!! PS Last Sunday I was taken for a fathers day meal which was far more than a pub lunch, it was delicious in every way and presented beautifully.PPS The staff at the Queens are so warm and friendly they offer a great welcome & service and they are a true credit to the business.

new chef/manager and you can tell. lovely clean bright area. food was quick fresh and filling. loads of offers on for tasty tea time treats as well so will be back. 2 courses for £6.25 amazing veggie specials which is great new for the veggies out there. really enjoyed it and will be bringing the family next time.thanks terry & team

Visited Queen hotel recently with some friends. The bar had a good selection of well-priced real ales. The restaurant was busy but the food was delivered in good time, piping hot and good sized portions. Two of us chose from the Saturday Night Grill menu - 2 main courses and a bottle of more than adequate Hardy's Shiraz for £20. We chose whiting fillet and the vegetarian option. 2 chose from the regular menu and specials. I didn't have a starter, as I knew the portions would be large, but my companions enjoyed their starters of wood pigeon salad and mussels. Overall an enjoyable meal and excellent value for money.

Visited the Queen Hotel with some colleagues - dreadful meal. The chicken was dry and overcooked (perhaps I should say "overheated", since the thin, uniformly sized slices of meat were clearly the reconstituted type which come from a packet). Vegetables undercooked and practically raw. The barmaid initially advised that I could not order a pre-dinner sherry, as they didn't sell it!!! Fortunately one of her co-workers was able to correct her. Won't be revisiting.

Due to good reviews being in Todmorden decided to have an early evening meal there. Decided due to try the grill offer which was advertised outside. Ordered a drink and asked about the meal to be told the menu was on the board. It wasn't and was told by the elderly barman that "she would put it on the board in a minute". 20 minutes later it hadn't been done and we weren't approched at any time despite not being busy at the time. Needless to say we left and won't be back
