We were a group of 8 who had pre booked. We were all very impressed with the service and the food served. Between us we had fish and chips, steak and ale pie, vegetarian sausage and mash and lasagne. All meals were wonderful, generous portions and very tasty. Puddings were equally scrumptious. There is a limited selection of cak ales but the Doombar ale was delicious. All in all a great meal

Restaurant review only! Upon looking at the pub/hotel it certainly looked the part, looking at the menu and see a lot of old school classic pub grub meals and after our long walk around the abbey, worked up a bit of an appetite. Food took 40/50 minutes to arrive and other patrons were getting served before us even though they arrived AFTER, but that could have been down to the order so that’s by the by. First of all In this economy I’d never ever say this about anyone but you need to SACK THAT CHEF, to put food out of this quality AT THAT PRICE, is nothing but laughable. Me and my partner burst out in fits of laughter on the way home at the sheer poor quality of this food, I couldn’t even be bothered to complain because the element you did rectify WAS STILL TERRIBLE. Cheeseburger and chips, simple right? - Burger patty, tough as old boots, tasted okay. - Brioche bun, felt and tasted microwaved with a chewing gum texture. - Fries, like little shards of glass cutting the roof of your mouth with every bite. Vegetarian Lasagna and chips. - Lasagna was so overcooked it was like it had armour, any moisture no longer existed, poor gone, I’d have ate my cremated nan and would have been more moist. - Fries, exactly the same as the above. (We sent this dish back and we were advised they had no lasagna left so she got a replacement burger, bearing in mind the chef has now been made aware of the over cooked issue, the replacement food was ALSO overcooked) so we gave up. Side orders. Onion rings, Burnt, crispy af outside, raw in the middle. Garlic bread, Burnt. Genuinely, I will provide photos too. One of the most laughable meals I have ever had, poor bartender woman doesn’t deserve to be the face of this. 0/10.

Shame I didn't read any of the reviews before we went there, but it all makes sense now. We went out for a dinner with friends, food was ok but I had better. The next morning I realised we were overcharged (I had 3 glasses of wine and I was charged for 2 glasses and a bottle!). My fault for not checking the bill when paying. I went the next day to say I was overcharged but there was nothing they could do as I should have said something on the night. I dealt with a dark haired lady, possibly a manager, some serious customer service training is desperately needed and smile wouldn't go a miss either. I was actually shocked with the level of customer service and the way we were spoke to, not sure how you can survive running the hotel in this manner, but all the best.

Very disappointed with the Sunday lunch. It was a luke warm offering of heated frozen vegetables and awful gravy. The couple next to us returned theirs to be re heated. Total waste of money!

Thought we would call in for a drink after a lovely walk around cod beck. If anyone was thinking of doing the same then think again!! Such a horrible place I can’t believe it’s still going, although I doubt it will be for much longer. It was a Sunday afternoon and the wifi code was try out Sunday dinner but the place was empty! When we arrived we asked for our drinks and was served by one of the barmaids. The Guinness wasn’t pouring right after standing there for a while my husband changed his choice to another beer-this also ran out. The barmaid asked the landlord if she should change the barrel to which he just said ‘no’. My husband eventually got a half froth half Guinness pint to which they could not care less. I got a wine in a horrible glass. The music was faulty and so would blast out so loud ever now n then. When we left we handed our glasses back to the bar and said bye-the landlord did not say thank you or bye! The rudest landlord I have ever come across! AVOID!!!

When arrived at the pub we was greated by a cat sat on the counter where drinks where made. The bar maid abruptly said “we have no food, can only have drinks”. So we ordered some drinks but then we was told they had ran out of coke. Then the bar man said the cheif can make us some cold sandwiches with chips however we over heard the bar maid tell another family that they had only a selected menu which consisted of; fish and chips, scampi, bangers and mash and burgers. For a village pub this was not very equipped and we were very disappointed. This was all at 5.30pm on a Tuesday evening so wasn’t late!

Awful meal ‘fresh’ from the freezer. Parmo was not a Parmo which had a strange texture and taste. Lasagna very basic. Salmon ok but mash from the freezer- really? Lovely for drink but food is awful.

I was staying at the Youth Hostel up the road and wandered down to the village for some tea. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. As it was a sunny eveing I sat outside on the lovely tables at the front of the pub. I opted for the local delicacy of Chicken Parmo with chips washed down with a couple of pints of Aspalls cider. It was a good sized meal and very tasty just what I needed the night before a big walk.

DO NOT GO….. please read though the other comments as well as mine, the staff are so rude, we ordered a bottle of champagne but as the barmaid opened it she spilt a quarter of it on the floor, we refused the bottle and said we would happily pay for one that’s full, at a cost of £70 you would expect a full bottle, as we were leaving a little man with a big mouth chirped up and forcefully refused letting us leave until we paid for the champagne which had a quarter of it on the deck, after been threatened some more we managed to walk away whilst been shouted at by this little man with a big mouth, do not go here this place does not deserve to be trading, all in all it was there loss and little man with big mouth got absolutely no reaction whatsoever from us, hopefully he will be back in his box by now

Booked for three of us to do the LWW , for end of June 2024. Unfortunately had to cancel due to severe illness with one of the group. I tried contacting the pub on eight occasions, speaking with a member of staff on two of those, and explained the situation we were in. They stated they would get someone to call me back but never did. I even sent a message but still no reply. Eventually after 4 days of trying to contact them I spoke with a member of staff who said it was their policy not to refund deposits, and that we could go anytime within a year of booking, this was booked in November of last year and our party will not be able to stay until April of next year. There was no apology , recompense, or compromise by their staff, so £120 down the drain. At the other establishments for the following several nights accommodation they all reached a compromise or refunded the deposits. Customer service here is abysmal, with a couldn’t care less attitude. Extremely disappointed to say the least. I would certainly not recommend this place if you think you will be looked after. If I could give a minus score then I would.

Arrived In Osmothersley looking forward to my stay, I booked and paid 50% non refundable deposit over 12 months ago, also phoned a few weeks ago to book a table for dinner. On arrival there was a large notice board saying it was closed for refurbishment! No sign of any works being done and a small note stuck to the door saying “book in at The Three Tuns. It appeared we now had rooms in a different place, the room was not that clean and our toilet was dirty, shower tray grubby. And the room had an odd smell. We ate there as we had no other option and it wasn’t good, added to that it cost £5 more that the menu on the website. No apology from anyone. So disappointed that people feel that they can treat you so badly and be so disrespectful. Weird that they still show up on all the booking websites. Avoid if you do not want to be treated like me.

Went here for a few drinks with my wife on Sunday 5th. Was decently busy with good atmosphere , food looked great although we didn’t have any , the service was great particularly a bar staff member, we got into conversation as I got my wife another glass of wine and a coors for myself, I think I heard another member of staff call him chris . He was very friendly and seemed to be doing a lot when I told him he’s moving twice as fast as everyone else he told me he doesn’t usually work front of house! He certainly should! Whilst it was busy he didn’t stop for breath. Taking orders cleaning, and pulling drinks all with a smile on his face . Was great to see a young lad enjoying his job. Great atmosphere, energy, and drinks , will be back with the wife

Ordered drinks and I was given a menu to order food which I took back to the table. After five minutes went back to the bar to order food to find out the kitchen was now closed to new orders. So we were left having to finish drinks without food. Then people were coming onto adjoining tables after us and were getting food delivered. Went back to bar and asked if I could order a take away and was told yes so that is what we did. Was told it would be a long wait maybe an hour. Food came after about half an hour. We had ordered fish and chips and having been to this pub previously it is normally excellent. This time it was a disappointment. The fish was dry and it came with French fries , not traditional chips. This visit was not the best advert for the pub with staff somewhat indifferent to the situation.

Stopped here for a Sunday lunch after a days biking, girls behind the bar took our order very polite, we ordered two roast pork dinners… so disappointed all the veg was from a frozen packet mixed sweetcorn, peas and cauliflower, the potatoes were also the frozen ones that are so dry and flakey inside them, the Yorkshire pudding was also a frozen out of a packet one… the pork was so dry and the gravy was like dirty water so watery. All in all was such a disappointment. It’s not hard to make a few roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds come on guys frozen isn’t the way forward. It was dreadful. This place used to be all home cooked foods and was always so busy. Get a proper cook employed.

We visited the Queen Catherine for lunch during May half term. The good is average for a pub meal but the level of service was poor. We ordered the corned beef pie, vegetarian lasagne and two pizzas from the children's menu. We were informed that the pizzas had sold out. It was 1pm and the pub was not that busy. We order scampi and sausages as replacement meals. I returned to our table and almost instantly the bar maid came out to our table to inform us there was no vegetarian lasange left. My wife ordered a vegetarian burger instead. We then waited an hour for our food to arrive. Although others were eating, the pub was far from busy so this wait was very confusing. Eventually, most of the food arrived. However, a single sausage was placed in front of one of my children. I went in to speak to the bar maid to see if the rest of the meal was coming. The chef was coming out of the kitchen as I spoke to her. He stated he had only cooked a single sausage as he thought it was for a dog. I asked if the full meal would arrive and he went back into the kitchen. The full meal then came out five minutes later. This rapid turn around made the hour wait even more baffling! As stated, the food was average for a pub. There are certainly better bar meals within driving distance. Afterwards, my wife spoke to the chef who explained he cooks one order at a time. With this approach, how they manage a full pub would be interesting to witness. In fairness, the chef did offer a refund but we declined this as the food was average and we did eat it but the level of service is truly awful.

Stayed 4 nights locally over New Year - recovering from Christmas and covid/walking trip - visited twice, good beer and good pub food. It's not a gastro pub by any stretch of the imagination, but good hearty food and muddy boots and dogs are welcome - possibly a little expensive hence 4 rather than 5, but I would go again unlike the chip shop next door that is to be avoided!

On June 1st I booked a one night stay for 24th August at the 3 Tuns in Osmotherley. Though the website specified clearly in its terms and conditions that no money would be taken unless a cancellation was received very close to the booked date. In fact the full sum of £115 was taken immediately and was referenced as paid to the Queen Catherine. No receipt or acknowledgement was ever sent. I cancelled my visit on July 1st - 7 weeks before we were due to stay. I have tried contacting both the 3 Tuns and the Queen Catherine both by telephone and website based "Contact us" facility and neither have been successful. The phone for both rang a couple of times then cut off and no response was was forthcoming from either website contact. Last week I visited the Queen Catherine to see the manager but they were unavailable. I left my contact details but unsurprisingly no response was forthcoming. It is very hard to see how any positive judgement can be made on these linked pubs given the repeated failure to respond.

We have been here a couple of times over the last year. On first time here, we have been dlr a walk and had some drinks and our daughter had chips. It was ok. Second time we went 4 of us ate - again average/expensive for what it is. We visited this week and it was £60 for 3 soft Drinks and glass of wine. Plus 3 adults meals and a child’s meal. The sausage and mash was hard, microwaved hot! A splash of gravy and a few garden peas. The gosh and chips were better - triple cooked chips and a decent portion of beer batter fish. Very green mushy peas! The wine was a standard house white - ok.

Was recommended to try the Golden Lion but it was closed so crossed the road to the Queen Catherine. Girl behind bar was pleasant and took our order for meals. Service was slow and meals were put on table before any cutlery. Steak and ale pie was edible but unexceptional. Cod was very dry and served without expected peas which were delivered after request, boiling hot from the microwave. Lasagne was dry and seemed short of the pasta and béchamel one would normally expect - most left uneaten. The chips had a curiously black/brown appearance. Prices were at the upper end for traditional pub fare so all in all, the consensus was that The Queen Catherine is best avoided.

I am not one to write poor reviews generally but feel compelled to come out of hibernation to write this one.We were a group of five people on holiday in this beautiful part of the world and had booked our first meal out together at this restaurant. Four of us had ordered garlic prawns with pita bread as starters. The prawns were cooked but there was no evidence of any garlic or even sauce. They were at best cooked from frozen. These were served with cold Dorito salsa sauce. No sign of pita bread either just plain buttered brown bread. The best bit was the side salad garnish! To be fair we would have said something but we were all so hungry and they were so busy that we just got on with it and laughed at the poor interpretation of what sounded like a nice starter. It gets better, the main courses were at best uninspiring. Three of us had the chicken with parmesan cheese. The size of chicken although huge and totally coated with cheese (which was great) had no taste! It was obvious that the chicken had been frozen and had dried out and Parmesan cheese which should be bursting in flavour was not! The chips were soggy so I just left them uneaten as did my dinner companions. Once again the side salad garnish was the highlight. Another of our party had cod and chips which she described as ‘uninspiring’ and of course the soggy chips made their return on her plate too. With the ‘eat out to help out’ deal going on we were surprised to have paid over £80 for this meal and drinks but we were not given any breakdown in the costs. We left without leaving any tip which we normally would have done. There is a choice of a few places to eat in Osmotherley but this should not be on your list.

From the drive into the quaint authentically beautiful village we knew we would love it. We had our two dogs a labrador and French mastiff in tow. We were warmly welcomed even though we only booked a hour earlier. The bar/restaurant is cosy, clean and welcoming, the food homely and generous portions, plenty for dogs to share. Red wine the merlot very nice and reasonably priced made my day .. We were given the top floor flat which was spotless, with a kitchen, TV sitting area and 4 beds to choose from.. The dogs were comfortable and settled, watched a couple of Bond films on our stay with a glass of wine certainly home from home. We went on two walks which were so picturesque and relaxing with streams, mini waterfalls, wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Back to Andy and all the staff who were lovely the dogs got spoilt with beef and sausages and everyone was so friendly. We usually go elsewhere but we stayed put..lovely church yard and church adjoining with beautiful chimes. The village locals drank in the bar notably the gamekeeper and Sam local chef and the barman Marty we will be back. Breakfast ordered the night before and cooked to your specification just perfect Thank you all for a lovely stay we feel recharged and relaxed..see you soon

Stopped at a favourite pub of ours after walking the dog around cod back etc. Social distancing etc in place and working really well. Menu looked unaffected but only wanted a sandwich and a pint. Couldn't fault it!

We were in the area visiting Mount Grace Priory, so afterwards drove into busy Osmotherley to find somewhere to eat lunch. We lucked out with the Queen Catherine Pub, as we got great seats on picnic tables outside in the sun by the busy road to people watch whilst maintaining social distancing! The menu was varied but most dishes seemed quite pricey for lunch time portions. However, there was a fish shop section that was just perfect for us. The food was tasty and the portions were perfect sizes for lunch - and a bargain at only £3.50 each for battered sausages, chips and a slice of white bread. Drinks were average priced, small cokes for £1.50 each.Well managed by staff during the slow recovering following Covid pandemic. Directional arrows on floor to show which way to move and onto toilets, luckily it was quiet when we visited as if the pub was full it would be hard to move around and still maintain social distancing. The toilets were clean, but the corridor to/from them was narrow and only small area near sinks to wait. Staff were helpful and friendly, we would return.Afterwards we walked up the road for a leisurely stroll around Cod Beck, which was so scenic. We advise to visit Osmotherley as early in the morning as possible! and to avoid peak tourist days if possible, as can be very very busy - even when we visited on a friday outside of school holidays.

The waitress told us that it would be a wait as we were just behind a large group. We almost left, but thought we'd wait similar in another pub. It was very fair of her, and to her credit, we got served faster than she had predicted. We had simple lunches: jacket potato which was good, and hubby had fish and chips which comes from next door (was good!). Nice to see that they have spent a fair amount of money in new refurbishment for outside seating, and inside was new too.

We stopped for a roast dinner as a very large group. They did us two roasts, loads of veg, roasties and the biggest Yorkshire puds ever! The food was hot and very tasty. The staff were very accommodating for such a large group and added a few nice touches to our visit. Would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again

We visited the Queen Catherine on Saturday and it was fantastic. We were a party of 42 so had pre-booked. The staff were amazing and gave us half the pub to ourselves. We’d ordered a roast dinner for the whole party which was served buffet style. The food was absolutely delicious, tasty and hot which is no small task for such a large amount of people. The Yorkshire puddings are to die for. The staff were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us. The pub is lovely inside, warm and welcoming. Can’t wait to visit again next year.

This pub obviously does not want customers! We used to go regularly and enjoyed friendly staff good food and live music BUT the pub changed hands and things have changed! We booked a room for Saturday 6th June so that we could enjoy a band (a duo) and drinks with friends - we have been informed today by our friends that the band had been cancelled! I rang The Queen Catherine to check and was told yes the band had been cancelled! I asked why and was told “because

Best bit = the beer. The choice of food is limited and just very basic pub grub, but really nothing stood out. Bearing in mind how many local pubs serve food of a MUCH higher quality than here we were very disappointed. Wouldn’t recommend it, apart from for a drink on a hot day outside in this beautiful village !

Visiting Osmotherly for a few days, we had finished a walk at 6pm. We had read the reviews beforehand and found some very critical, but our experience was great, the real ale was in top class condition, so we took a chance and ordered the fish and chip style meal, the chips were cooked to perfection and tasted better than any I have had for some years, also the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked in superb batter, and included was nice mushy peas and fresh white bread; yum yum. If you are nearby give it a go and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

We visited here for a quick drink fairly late on a saturday night having just completed a very long day of walking. Despite the kitchen being closed for the night they offered us two enormous bowls of freshly cooked chunky chips. Couldn't have asked for anything more!!! A spash of vinegar and copious amount of ketchup we worked our way through the mountain of chips and were so very grateful. Customer service and satisfaction at its best. Would definately return.

A friendly, relaxed and unpretentious place to have a rest and some very good food. We had fish, chips, mushy peas followed by apple crumble. The chips were really perfect, fat and tasty, and lots of them! The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection and even my partner who doesn't normally like mushy peas ate these. As for the apple crumble ( and custard ) it was so good I went back the next day for another and my partner had the sticky toffee pudding and cream. The crumble was sizzling hot, plentiful, packed with fruit and incredibly tasty.

Called in this pub after a long walk. Our party of 4 +2 dogs were warmly received by the friendly staff. The men plumed for pints of Wainwright’s which were in fine fettle while the ladies opted for a lager the name of which escapes me but which they enjoyed. We had already made arrangements to eat so did not sample the food offering but it did look delicious. Standards at this pub are first class and I would highly recommend to anyone walking around Osmotherly to call in and sample the fare, we certainly will call again.

Went in already had booked a table took 30 mins to get sat down. No table service. Took 1.30hours for food once ordered. Food on floor table not cleaned. Once people had left they did not clear up ( there was not many people in there either). Had ran out of most food on the menu. We told them we had a broccoli allergy so when they did not have most of the veg we requested. They piled the plate with broccoli. As soon as we walked in it smelled of fish. Once the food had come we had hard meat undercooked chips and the nana said “it was the worst meal of her life” (she is eighty and bearing in mines she was in an orphanage where they did not give good food back then).

My husband and I booked in with friends for Sunday lunch today and quite frankly the service and the food was appalling. The young lad who took our order was surly and unfriendly. We waited nearly an hour for our food which was over cooked and horrible when it arrived. The meat and roast potatoes ( which were so overcooked they were dried out and crispy) were served with no veg or gravy. We eventually had to go to the bar and ask for the veg which came in a small square pot which wouldn’t have been enough for one person never mind the three of us who had ordered the roast dinner. The veg was also over cooked and tasteless. Meanwhile the rest of the meal had gone cold. Even the dessert I had of a chocolate sundae was off. Never again…
