Awful Sunday dinner today, don't know if its because I went 2.30pm. The gammon was over cooked. No Turkey on a Sunday dinner. I asked for a 2nd yorkshire pudding as I have no veg. The chef was rude my friend said she can have mine as I'm not having one. This place needs customer service skills. Won't be coming back

If you're after a good value, friendly, proper pub then this is a great place. Me and my wife went in on a Sunday and chose the carvery. It was ready straight away, good portions and great quality. Nice open fire too. If I had to pick then the gents toilets were a bit dark.

I don't like giving poor reviews, but this was so bad I feel I need to warn others. The pub gets quite good reviews on TripAdvisor so I chose it for a family lunch and pre-booked a table for 6. Good points: it's a very central location in Northallerton and it's a very old pub. Not so good points: no table allocated for us in the warm front bar with a fire and service (despite pre-booking) so we sat alone in a freezing, empty back room. Absolutely no heating and we wore our outdoor coats throughout the meal. It was empty with no atmosphere, table not laid despite being described to us as "the restaurent" and no Christmas decorations at all (Dec 2023)!. We had to ask for candles to be lit and huddled over them to get warm. Service was terrible with 1 person trying to do everything, ignoring us and concentrating on the tables in the front. We waited about 30 minutes to get drinks and order. Half the starters weren't available and the main courses were missing things eg spinach risotto but the kitchen had no spinach. Another long wait to get our food delivered by which time we were ravenous. Trying to get a second round of drinks was hopeless, the service was so bad. Food quality distinctly average. We couldn't wait to pay up, get home and warm up. Absolutely can't recommend the Fleece unless you have very low standards. Very sad as we'd travelled 150 miles to visit a relative and take them out to lunch.

The Fleece is probably the oldest pub in Northallerton and it simply oozes history. With its low, beamed ceilings and large open fire it is also fabulously cozy. The service was good, as was the atmosphere and the real ales we had were excellent. This pub went through a dodgy few years with the wrong clientele and management but now seems to be back to its best and is a great place for a pint.

They were able to accomodate us without a reservation (because we'd just left The Golden Lion where the service was terrible, but that's a different review...). There was ample seating and space for all of us--dog included--to spread out. Lunch was great (fish pie, fish and chips, crumble, chocolate lava cake) and the two guys who were working were just really really nice. I also got to cuddle a puppy, so that was an added bonus. Visited this pub with 5 other members of staff. Nice pub but be warned, if you're a vegetarian, be prepared to wait. I think in these times of an ever increasing vegetarian population, perhaps The Fleece Inn should be better prepared. All the other 5 members of my group were 'meat-eaters' so had no problem tucking into their buffet meal. But when I told a member of staff I was vegetarian, I had to wait 15 to 20 mins for the chef to prepare me something - which was very good when it turned up. But by the time it turned up, some other members of the group were full-up. Maybe The Fleece need to follow that old rule of the boy scouts - 'Be prepared'
