Came in on the Saturday with my husband not knowing there was a party going on in the other room, walked in and everyone seemed to be having a good time in both rooms. Walked further in and found out it was the engagement party of the landlord and landlady and they greeted us. We asked if it was ok for us to stay because we didn’t want to barge in on their doo and they are extremely lovely people, they said they’d love for us to stay and we joined in on their conversation and met some great people. Ended up staying longer than expected (very drunk) but we had a great time and we will be coming here again :) Thank you Tim and charlotte for a brilliant night and congratulations and well done to Katie and Emma for running that bar when it was so busy. On the pub itself, the lounge is a bit bare but we where told that it’s going to be made a bit softer and the bar needs a bit of an update but the beer and drink selection was fantastic and everyone was so friendly.

The Adelaide is not what it once was. I grew up in the village and still visit the pub when in town. Last year it got repainted a truly awful dull vomit green and off cream that would have had planning inspectors out in any town other than Northampton. Be warned that most photos online show it in its long time whitewash and black windows scheme. I's now so ugly that I had to be talked into holding a family event there last year, when in the past the Adelaide was always first choice. That day went ok, great game of skittles after a major funeral cheered the day up. Went in with another friend who was visiting town this week and we were horrified to see that the distinctive and traditional Northamptonshire skittles table has gone to make way for a second plasma screen in the snug, because the one bit of the bar you could hide from television in needs a television, feels pointless and tacky and a bit invasive in what was once the quieter corner of the pub. The Adelaide seems to be losing a little bit more of that village pub ambience that made it special. Very sad to see a county tradition dying out for the sake of having four more seats pointing at a screen.

My wife and myself popped into the pub at about 12.10pm on Sunday lunchtime for a drink as we had been told, it had been done up and was now very welcoming. Far from the truth. Three members of staff stood at the lounge bar talking and no greeting, just, what would you like to drink. My wife wanted a Vodka and tonic. The Vodka was poured into a large glass what you would serve a large coke in, very unappealing and the bar staff then poured the whole bottle of tonic into the glass without asking if that is what we wanted. We should really have sent it back but we didn't bother. We had asked also for a slice of lemon in the drink but that was forgotten as well. I ordered a pint of real ale Sharp's Atlantic. It came out very cloudy, but just about drinkable. I then asked for CAMRA discount on the real ale as they advertised it, but was told it was only available Monday to Thursdays in the evenings. CAMRA members be aware, i have never encountered this before. One to avoid! We then asked where we could sit and was told the tables were reserved for food even though people were not coming in until 12.30pm or 1pm. They had some high stalls at the side of the loung with tables but no good for us as we are getting older and have bad backs. We were told we could go in the bar if we wanted. Overall the experience was very poor and we will not be returning. The staff need training on how to serve drinks and on their general attitude.

A bit of a history of this pub: - fantastic in the late 80’s-early 90’s when it was packed with locals and run by the renowned no nonsense landlord Terry - ruined in the late 90’s when purchased by a local pub company who alienated all the locals by putting prices up - salvaged in the naughties by Paul who with his own brand of hospitality and home cooked food introduced the ever popular cheese night and traded successfully until selling the business on - in the last few years it has been taken control of by local pub operator Mark Lynch who has had a succession of managers of varying quality. The last of which (Simon) finally brought the pub back to life. Fast forward to the present time. Newly appointed managers have extended the opening hours and are now serving breakfast from 9am followed by a pub menu after midday. Having grown up in Kingsthorpe I do like to return regularly and the rest of the pubs are not the greatest so I am naturally drawn to the Adelaide as it’s still a “proper pub”. Sadly I don’t think I will be frequenting as despite having visited a number of times since the new managers arrived I am not finding the welcome particularly warming. My first visit, I was ignored as no one was paying attention to the bar side of the operation, my second visit the manager didn’t look like he wanted to be there and today was too much effort for them. At Breakfast today there were a handful of guests but yet they were still struggling to cope with 2 managers working. When I asked for a Bloody Mary I was informed that they don’t serve them, so i ordered a vodka with tomato juice which was served. Breakfast was nicely cooked and good value at less than a tenner (including tea and coffee) however the ingredients were cheap and please if your going to have brown sauce make it HP!!! Additionally whilst waiting for breakfast I could hear the manager’s dog whimpering and whining as it had been left in the flat on its own. Just a couple of weeks back the managers had promoted on social media that they were bringing the new dog home to the pub - what a life to give it, left alone in the flat whilst they are at work!!!

STAY AWAY- (First ever time I’ve felt the need to write a review) Went in expecting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, unfortunately couldn’t have been more wrong. The Bald man on the bar was awfully rude and made me aware of a new pub law which was that if I didn’t purchase a drink in the first 30 minutes of stepping foot into the run down and unhygienic establishment then I would be yelled at and kicked out with immediate effect. I also strongly recommend you do not come here to watch any meaningful sporting event as you will have to severely squint you eyes to see what’s happening as they provide the sport on a old dusted up TV which runs at 360p so better off listening to any sporting event on the radio. Hope this is helpful and saves anyone else from visiting the worst pub in Northamptonshire.

A welcoming traditional local Village pub with a selection of real ales. Staff were excellent and the pub was clean and festive, without going overboard on decorations. It’s a dog friendly pub with a large pleasant garden area. Although being honest it was a bit too cold to actually sit in the garden, especially as there was a world cup match on the TV inside. Food was good value and quick in arriving. Would certainly go back there again. Mark

Having first visited in the summer I’ve been here a few times now with friends. This nice little village pub is set back off the main thoroughfare and is a hidden gem. The staff are nice and friendly. They have a nice selection of Ales on tap. We visited after one of their recent Ale & Cider festivals so there was an even greater selection to choose from. I would highly recommend the pizzas. They come out on a wooden board and you can tell they’re handmade (don’t expect a circular Dominos style pizza). We now make a point of visiting whenever in the area.

Family christening - we flew over from Ireland to celebrate christening of our nephew.- we were absolutely appalled with service we received from management and staff. This event was booked well in advance . Courtesy phone call on day would have been the professional manner by management to let my sister know that there was staff shortages but no that did not take place - balloons were delivered and staff were not available to put up luckily my sisters best friend happily obliged to go ahead straight after ceremony to sort out. Then while In the pub two hours in no food was served not even appetisers. When approached about food bar staff - one in particular she was so angry with her reply. When my sister spoke with landlord he was completely dismissive with her and spoke so abruptly to her. The food that eventually came out was the worst I had ever seen displayed for the price that was payed out it was an embarrassment no effort no thought no taste no class. Also cocktail menu do not buy no fresh ingredients and cocktail is given to you in a small glass one sip and it’s gone . No glasses were collected from table . This place came totally across from management and staff they give zero interest in There customers and they proved it well. Rate this place is going it won’t be open for long . Food that was served not homemade it was shop bought .

Attended a function with around 40 people. Although the venue were expecting those numbers there was one person serving at the bar and when another arrived they were new so were still getting used to the till ect therefore it took some time to get served. No food was provided for several hours. The host asked several times about the food and received a rude response. The landlord was witnessed to return with Aldi shopping bags which looked rather unprofessional and unorganised. The hosts were having to apologize to all their guests constantly as they were hungry and travelled far an wide for this occasion. Children and elderly were present and hungry. When queueing for a drink several people witnessed the bar maid calling the host family offensive names because they expressed their disappointment. When the food arrived it was average at best and when I heard what was charged I was appalled. There wasn't enough food for all the guests and that was even with some leaving due to hunger. Sandwich filling on a burger bun wasn't what we were expecting. The landlord then stomped around the pub, throwing things and making guests feel very uncomfortable. The poor host looked so embarrassed and left. I don't believe an apology was given and the pub did not attempt to rectify their shambles. They ruined an important occasion without remorse and for this I won't be returning.
