I booked lunch for Easter Sunday and we had one of the last available tables, which is always a good sign. The parking was very stressful, as the car park is small and was full, so we had to drive quite a way to find a space on the verge of a lane, but anyway - we survived! We received a warm welcome from the lady behind the bar and were placed in the snug near the entrance. I think we were one of four tables there. It was absolutley fine, although there wasn't much atmsophere in the snug and we missed the famous views. There were also lots of dogs going in and out of the main pub, so something to be aware of if you don't like dogs! Our waiter was lovely and, for me, he really made our lunch special. He was funny, personable and worked so hard. My son loved his burger. My husband had the roast trio and I had the roast beef. The meat was a teeny bit fatty in places, but nothing too awful, and we both enjoyed our lunch. My husband ordered cauliflower cheese as a side, which he said was delicious. There was just once carrot and one parsnip on each plate (plus roast potatoes, a Yorkshiire pudding and cabbage), which was fine for me, but may not have been enough for those who love their veg. There was one slightly curious thing, which was that on my plate I had one solitary pea... and my husband had none! I am not sure whether we were supposed to have peas and they had forgotten to serve them, or if they were't included and a rogue one had sneaked onto my plate, but it made me laugh. It really wasn't an issue. Puddings were nice - After Eight ice cream and mini doughnuts. I liked the small dessert option, as we were fairly full from our mains. All in all, a pretty good lunch (maybe just a few small tweaks needed), but it was the excellent service that really made it special for me.

Very disappointed with our lunch. Chicken burger was just bland and visually awful. Standards clearly not high enough. Beef burger was dry and again bland. Truffle and Parmesan fries didn’t taste of truffle at all. Burgers are basic and not hard to get right if you care about what you do! The staff didn’t come to check if we were enjoying our food hence the review. Beautiful venue but the food needs to be better.

We recently stayed for a night as we were celebrating my husband's birthday and our 1 year wedding anniversary. When we arrived the car park was busy but we managed to get a space, upon entering the Quarrymans we made our way to the bar stepping over 5 dogs laying on the floor along the way to check in. We were shown to our room which was not what we were expecting comparing to the photos on their website. The room was dark, the bathroom had cracked and broken tiles, black mould on the silicone, toilet seat was too small for the toilet and there was a garden bench directly outside our window which was about a foot from the bed. We also noticed that around the pub, hallways and bedrooms the paint was in real need of some TLC as it was chipped/scraped/marked and what appeared to be damp coming through. Not happy with what we had seen we spoke to someone behind the bar who then moved us to another room. The room was better and larger but there were still issues. The TV screen is damaged so there are lines going through the picture, the cushion covers had holes in, the bathroom smelt like drains so we had to keep the door shut, the fridge was so noisy it sounded like it was on the way out, the room again was quite dark, the bed was super king but were 2 beds pushed together so you could feel the gap down the middle, the hand lotion bottle pump in the bathroom was broken, the shower fluctuated in temperature and dribbled out....... I could go on. We later then had something to eat in the pub which again was disappointing, I had a beef burger and my husband had a chicken burger. My husband's burger was ok although lacking in sauce but my beef burger was dry, lacked any real flavour and again barley any sauce. At £18 per burger we expected more for our money. In the morning breakfast started from 8am until 10am, at 8.10am we headed up for breakfast but the door was locked so we had to find someone in the kitchens to open the door. We were told we could sit anywhere so sat by a big window which overlooked the beautiful countryside. We pre paid for breakfast so we were confused when we were handed menus with prices on, I asked if we can order anything from the menu which we were told yes apart from the full fry up which came at an extra £4.50. I asked if we could have more than one item and more than one drink which we were also told yes too. I think the breakfast system needs to be made a lot clearer for those that have pre paid. Myself and my husband both had porridge which was lovely, followed by a bacon bap and poached eggs on toast. My husband's bacon bap was described on the menu as stacked with bacon (or words to those affect) but came out with about 3 rashers of streaky bacon. My poached eggs on toast were described as buttered sourdough with choice of eggs but it came out with no butter which meant the water from the eggs had made the toasted sourdough wet. My husband had a coffee and I had an apple juice which were both nice. We checked out of our room and headed on our way. During our entire stay we were not asked how our stay was nor were we asked how our meals were. It's safe to say we will not be visiting again.

We popped in on the Friday and it had a lovely country feel to the place We only had a light bite and a pint but thought it was a lovely pub with fantastic views

We visited with friends on a very busy Saturday night in early December. What a great place. Excellent range of Butcombe beers and superb food. The battered sausage and dip was a great small starter and the pie with beautifully prepared veg was superb. The staff, although rushed off their feet, were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back!

Our hostess was fantastic - smiley, friendly and chatty - which makes such a difference. Food was spot on. We were a party of 8 and every meal was lovely. Will definitely return - and look forward to seeing the views that we couldn't see in the dark!

We were recommended this pub for a roast diner. We had a table in the snug, in the corner. Although it is a nice room, we would have much preferred a table by the bat window in the other room (the table wasn’t fully set and we had to get a chair as one was missing). The food was nice, beef cooked to perfection. Not many veg on the side, (we had a late breakfast so it was enough for us). For the price, a little more on the plate wouldn’t go amiss (hence 4 stars) The Yorkshire pudding was huge! Staff were pleasant enough, the decor and restaurant look nice, all chrismassy.

Poorly presented food and beef so tough it was inedible.one small strip of a parsnip and one small carrot.No service unless sought for 😞

Would give 5 for food, welcome, location, dog friendly. The pub had an oven problem - they even phoned to warn me that some food items would be impossible to cook, but some would still be available. Impressive. My only criticism is that I paid the bill - but did not realise until I got home that 10% service is automatically included. I thought that sharp practice had largely stopped a while ago - but I note that other visitors have made the same comment. It's a shame, because the pub, food and staff are great - and I will certainly return. But the auto addition of 10% should be stopped. Is it a Butcombe Group corporate requirement? Regards Jon

We stayed here on Sunday evening for one night with a wonderful vegan breakfast included. The staff were so attentive and friendly. The room was beautiful with beautiful views. The view at breakfast is stunning too, massive picture window and you can sit at a table looking out. I imagine it is lovely in the summer as they have a lovely beer garden overlooking that view. Look forward to staying with you again some time.

Had heard good things and wasn’t disappointed. Warm welcome and swift service, we both had roast beef which was served quickly and nice and hot. Even though Jasmine and Keira had been very busy and short staffed the service was exemplary. Jasmine was extremely kind to our dog, making a fuss of her and giving her a roast potato! Would highly recommend a visit, beautiful views and a great pub garden.

Great views, good food ( pies really good). Good menu and a board showing where their supplies come from. Good selection of beer etc. A Butcombe Pub - part of the Liberation Group ( Guernsey). Staff friendly and helpful - probably the only criticism was we weren't offered coffee afterwards. The Service charge evident from the itemised bill- we were aware of that before the meal and from previous experiences. If busy, car parking could be at a premium.

Would like to thank the staff at The Quarrymans. Lovely pub with fantastic views. Visited yesterday to celebrate my Mum’s birthday. Party of 14 and no complaints at all. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was great! Very tasty roasts. We will be returning when next in the area and would highly recommend! Thank you again for accommodating. Six of us went to one of our favourites pubs outside of Bath for a late Sunday lunch. The car park and bar were packed. There was a nice atmosphere in the bar/restaurant area. With the friendly staff working hard to deliver food and drinks to the customers. Our Sunday Roasts were well cooked, looked great and smelt amazing. I had the vegan wellington which was very nice. The majority of the table had the roast pork with crackling. The six empty plates were testament to the quality of the food. Real British Pub atmosphere in a great location with stunning views. Definitely one to visit.

My wife and I dropped in after being passed a Golden ticket discount voucher ! I’ve used this pub several times in the past and the service is always prompt & efficient. This occasion was no different. Unfortunately both of our meals were a disappointment. I opted for the Haddock with thick cut chips. It was literally battered senseless & very dry as were the chips. The mushy peas were scant and also completely dried out. My wife had the steak and said it was very chewy. Our voucher yielded a 20 % discount which I was glad of as the meal was as bad as I can remember from this pub. The two gents serving gave good service so no complaints there. But the food I’m afraid was a big let down.

Arrived at this lovely pub after a day at Wincaton races at 5pm for just one night. Roads are pretty narrow but SatNav got us there. Parking was tricky as car park was full on arrival but managed to park on the road. Staff was great. Complimentary Prosecco was a lovely touch. Room was great as was check in and staff. Booked in for an evening meal. Lovely table in the snug. Food, wine and beer all delicious 😋 Bed was comfy though the walls are quite thin but sleep well nonetheless. The only negative was the breakfast. There was no cereal, yogurt or juice. And they had run out of eggs and hash browns. So limited choice. What we did have was very nice but I did miss the eggs.

Hello , This is our favourite drinking hole , Just around the corner for us ! We have been going there for too long to remember ! Mind you the staff can be a bit moody ,but they always deliver especially for me at the table ! Wednesday is their 25% off meal deals ! Can get very noisy at times ! This is our favourite local pub/restaurant. It always has a great atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and amazing food. Last night we rang at last minute and managed to get a table for three. We all had a lovely pint of Guinness, perfectly served. I had the plant burger, my son had ham, egg and chips and his partner the beef burger. All the food looked and smelt very appetising. All three dishes were well cooked and throughly enjoy. Really lovely typical English pub with a view to die for.

We had a huge (deluxe family) room downstairs with couch, desk & small shower, our daughter had an ave sized (deluxe double) room upstairs with a huge shower. Nicely furnished, nice bedding, mini bar but no Nespresso machine. Plenty of off-street parking, electric car charger, good gastropub (no other food choice in walking distance). I would have given 5* but unfortunately we left our down pillows we travel with in brightly coloured pillowcases behind and they quickly noticed this but didn’t bother to phone us to let us know resulting in a 100 mile journey to collect it the next day- unnecessarily poor service.

Disappointing. Front of house unwelcoming and unaware of deals on butcombe website. Queries were met with "the chef is very busy with a private event" in 2 occasions, one being the broccoli and mozzarella dish had no mozzarella! Have to say their chips are wonderful and location beautiful.

Nice pub in a great location with panoramic views across the county. It was very very warm inside and the staff were suffering with the heat as well as us as customers. This is a Butcombe pub and the menu seems common across other Butcombe premises. Our order for drinks and food was swiftly taken and they both soon arrived. The food was Ok, won't win any wards but it was good standard pub food. The value however was not great. Fish cakes were just that, a few sauteed spring onions, about a teaspoon and a bit of sauce and a poached egg for £16.50? I imagine any American visitors would be disappinrednwith the portion size! The gammon was Ok too, chips were ok, it was Ok! Won't be rushing back both of you're stuck and don't mind smallish portions for high-ish prices, it's ok...

On a good previous visit we booked to have an evening meal but was rather disappointed. The pub itself is sat in a lovely spot with gorgeous views but the interior felt somewhat grubby. The food was nice but when I changed my steak dish from having chips to having their very lacking and expensive side dish of broccoli it looked very poor. It also took some time for our food to arrive between starter and main. The staff did apologise for the wait and also offered something else to go with my steak but it would have only meant I’d have to wait longer and my steak would have been getting cold so I got on with what I was given. The price for a shared starter, steak with added side dish, pie, 3 beers, 1 gin & tonic and an elderflower with lemonade PLUS an already added service charge of over £8 came to over £90. I can safely say we won’t be returning.

The roast beef was generous and incredibly tasty, especially loved the medium rare meat. My husband enjoyed the pasta which wasn't too spicy and incredibly tasty and our daughter loved calamari!

How difficult can it be to smile and say hullo? The FOH team really let the place down and unwelcoming. The food on the other hand was absolutely splendid. Our choices were excellent, fish cakes and bavette on a salad. Shame the carpet looked terrible but the view took one away from the floor covering which must have come from a rather squalid squat.

There were 6 people in our party. The starters were awful. Two had calamari but hardly any and one had falafel but only 4 tiny falafel no salad or bread. The mains weren’t much better. Two of the meals were cold and had to be reheated and the potions were measly. No rice with a tasteless vegan curry either at £16.00. But the atmosphere was good as there was live music. It’s very much a drinking pub. I would concentrate on craft beers and give up the food. .Very disappointed. We won’t be going back

Awful service, not a friendly welcome, told lots of dishes weren't available, food terrible- to the point where I would have created a similar lunch out of desperation and lack of ingredients.
