We booked the Castle Hotel to celebrate my dad’s 75th birthday. We planned a surprise lunch and we had exclusive use of their restaurant. Our whole experience from start to finish was nothing short of amazing! Nothing was too much trouble for Sinead and her team. The food was fantastic, all our meals were tasty and served hot and on time. David looked after us all day and made sure our glasses were kept full. Maisie and Leah provided excellent service…. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, our guests were super impressed! A big thank you Sinead for all your help and support and for the wonderful time we all had. See you again….

I chose the Castle Hotel in Devizes as I was planning to do the Quakers Walk Parkrun on Saturday morning, which was only a five minute walk from the hotel. The rooms are clean and the condition of the building in general is immaculate. The ceiling fan was an added bonus, as these are quite rare in UK hotels. Although the rooms are over a pub, I did not hear any noise at all from the patrons downstairs. However, the hotel is on a very busy road and while the soundproof windows do a good job, you do get some vibrations and noise from the massive lorries that drive past the hotel. Thankfully this was less of a problem at night.

Had lunch, chilli and rice, very nice. Ham, egg and chips, bacon and cheese burger with chips. The burger was very tall which made biting into it difficult and meant there was a lot of empty roll, tasty as it is maybe the burger could have been shorter and wider to fill the roll and allow the jaw to fit the roll. The meal was very tasty. You can walk into the market place within 2 mins and the shops are just across the road. If you have a wheelchair and come in from the main entrance there is 1 step to go up.

Had a good stay overall in the centre of Devizes. It's a nice hotel and bar. Unfortunately I didn't sleep as the room was right next to the road which had lots of lorries driving passed all through the night which shook the room as they were so close, but for an old building it's difficult. Breakfast was very good, I couldn't fault it. I would return but only if I could stay in a room away from the road. Please note there aren't many parking spaces so you need to park in the pay and display opposite the hotel

Asked for a late check out and was told that they don’t do it, and you need to be checked out by 11:30 the latest but was assured when booking that there was a snug area that I could hang out in. There’s not a comfortable area. Most of it’s just hard wooden seats. I’ve got to hang around until 7 o’clock this evening. I will need to go and find another pub that has a cosy chair. For me to sit and do some work from until my evening appointment bedroom is clean, tidy, modern breakfast I would’ve liked more than one piece of toast parking is a little bit of an issue as well. Have to be over in the car park by 8 am to feed the meter. Oh and the iron ruined a white polo shirt that actually cost twice what my hotel room did.

On Friday evening I had dinner with my family at the Castle Hotel in Devizes. The new owners have given the place a much needed overhaul, and it now feels fresh and welcoming. We were especially impressed by the meals the three of us had: for starters we had deep fried Camembert on a particularly tasty mango salad with a honey and mustard dressing, delicately flavoured salmon roulade parcels (perhaps a bit too chilled but perfect with a warm roll), and a puy lentil and vegetable soup. The ribeye steak main was cooked to perfection with an excellent mushroom and red wine sauce. The choice of desserts was mouthwatering but after the very generous portions for the first courses we could only manage one dessert between us: baked cheesecake is always a favourite of mine, but this one stood out because of its perfect texture and subtle sweetness. The wine selection is fairly limited but well priced. Our waiter Steve’s welcome and friendy attentiveness was the cherry on the top! I don’t think one can eat as well at their prices anywhere else in Devizes. With their current 25% discount our two-three course meal, for three, including drinks and coffee was only £56. We will be back!

We had a couple of nights away in Devizes. Never been before. The Castle is a very good value hotel. Can't praise the breakfast highly enough. The Full English was really nicely cooked and tasty. The continental was also very good with hand carved Wiltshire ham, smoked cheese, croissant and fresh fruit. We could also have had cereal, yoghurt etc. Coffee and tea and juice frequently topped up by really friendly team. Our rooms were both a good size with brand new bathrooms. Beds very comfy. Fresh towels both days. Quality toiletries provided. We felt so very at home and would definitely return for another stay.

We have been enjoying takeaway meals from The Castle since lockdown and last week we were able to try out the new restaurant for the first time. We could not fault it in any way. The food was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The menu includes traditional pub fare but there is also an imaginative specials board. I opted for sea bass with bacon and creamed cabbage and it was truly amazing. The new owners are charming and welcoming and have created what feels like a very safe environment. The lunch menu was good and plenty of choice for a variety of palates. We didn’t need to wait long for the food to arrive and the portions were most generous and well-priced. My wife had a tuna salad, it looked inviting and tasted as good as it looked. I opted for cod and chips; one of my favourites. I have thing about chips being properly cooked and these were second to none being crisp on the outside and soft in the middle and the batter on the fish was lovely and crisp. For a chance visit this proved to be a great find. We would highly recommend The Castle Hotel and will certainly be visiting again with the whole family.

Arrived here for a one night stay and I honestly could have cried. In all my years I never been to such a place, from the cat bowl in reception to the attic room, complete with stained carpet, rotten windows, not to mention the shower that was just for decorative purposes. The room was soooo hot, I didn’t venture under the cover! This hotel is ideally located however really needs to think about what it is offering. My advice is NOT to book unless it has a serious revamp!

Put in here for 1 night whilst in Devizes by my employers. What a shame the usual hotel was full as this place was awful.Car parking is opposite in a open car park (free after 6pm). During check in, they could not find my reservation, although I had a confirmation from my employers. Finally they found it, then decided to let me know that there was NO food available as the stand in chef had not turned up.Up to room my went, (apparently an upgraded room). Large room, located at the front of the building, 1 large bed and 1 single. Room was ok, nothing special and in need of some improvements. Shower was clean with nice hot water. Every time the front door of the hotel / restaurant was opened and slammed shut, the whole room shook. I advised the check in staff that I had an early start (5am), Advised that I could drop the key through the hole in the wall and let myself out of the front door.Did as mentioned, only to find out after that I needed a key to open the front door!!!Tried calling the number but no answer, so ended up going through the fire exit. If staff knew I was leaving early, why not explain properly on how to leave. It would be a shame if I was ever put up in this hotel again.

Going back earlier this year we had lunch here as we hadn’t been to the Castle for years and it looked very inviting from the outside. Unfortunately it was not great and my meal came out virtually cold (sausage & mash!)- by the time I waited for it to be reheated my wife had finished hers and I ate alone! Not the best situation really and I was offered five pound off - a bit measly really but hey it was something. Anyway we decided to give it another go, about five months down the line one evening we went back in for an evening meal - it looked so impressive from the outside with stunning window boxes and a real fire burning in the grate. Anyway we went in and I went to the bar and my wife sat by the fire. There were not many people in there and no one seemed to be eating so I asked if they were serving food, the barmaid looked a little blank and asked a woman sat at a table in the bar if they were, she said yes. So I went to order my wife’s drink a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc and asked if that was ok, the barmaid looked blank once more and asked the woman sat in the bar again, she at that time didn’t commit and said the guy next to her would know, then a barman arrived behind the bar and said he would check for me, he went to the till looked it up and said yes that would be fine and they sold it by the glass - all good. The woman sat at the table then said that they would not sell it by the glass as they would not sell the rest of the bottle as nobody would want it - the UK’s most popular white wine, I believe! Well after my previous experience, no sign of anyone else eating, totally unfriendly customer service, not knowing what people actually drink I decided to leave! We went to another pub down the road which was heaving with drinkers and people eating. We received great customer service, fantastic landlord who fitted us in albeit they were fully booked and really nice meal. I wish I could be more positive about the Castle however once bitten twice shy although I did go to give it another try but customer service was really not good so not prepared to through good money after bad.

We had a large, simply furnished room overlooking the road. For the price, it was completely fine, clean and safe. It seems others have been troubled by road noise but we weren' t. However earplugs had kindly been provided! Which is considerate. The breakfast is incredibly good in taste, quantity and value, especially given that many eateries in the town are a tad expensive and metrocentric, serving things like a handful of hand-reared prawns lightly killed and arranged on a slate with some dandelion leaves (well, something like that) for eyewatering amounts of money. The ladies in charge are highly obliging, only let down by the young lad they'd left on the front desk when we arrived who really and truly could not have given one. Tip: if you park in their free parking space in the old coach arch, bring a tarpaulin, as pigeons roost there and will cheerfully decorate your car.

We called in here for lunch on the recommendation of a gentleman working near the car park opposite. The bar was clean and warm; the bar man very friendly and obliging. The food was not overly expensive compared to trendy Gastro pubs and was of very good quality. It was a shame that there were only five customers the whole lunch time. This pub deserves more. The only downside was that the large TV screens were showing Sky Sport with the sound turned off, instead, loud pop music was piped in via a speaker next to the TV. This happens all the time now and I can't understand the thinking of it. One or the other "properly" not both.

I had nut roast which was very dry, I had to ask for some chutney to accompany it, it was served with 4 new potatoes which were just cooked, some undercooked cauliflower and a handful of peas, the gravy was the saving grace for this dish. My friend had lasagne, she managed to eat half of it. The restaurant was very quiet, there was no one else eating, just a handful of drinkers. The menu is varied but not imaginative and reasonably priced, perhaps we were unlucky and chose the wrong dishes, there was lots of choice for vegetarians.

Unfortunately we didn't come away from the Castle with a full stomach and a happy smile! The Castle looks lovely from the outside, lots of hanging baskets full of flowers -a very welcoming image. We found the interior a little dingy but decided to try out the lunch menu. I order a ham salad, my partner, soup. The order seemed to take an age to arrive. When it got to us my ham and cheese salad was 2 slices of ham and cheese and a little heap of lettuce. No tomatoes, no cucumber, nothing but the ham, cheese and lettuce. My partner was served soup and a roll, no butter, no spoon and when he pushed his fork into the bowl he was amazed to see it come away in one frozen lump on his fork. We complained to the young man who appeared to be running the kitchen, the waiting on as well as the bar and he took the food away. Another 10 mins passed, others were served by the same man. All I was offered was scampi which then continued to arrive as this was thought to be solution to the now numerous problems with the meals. Unfortunately this was cold and some was cooked but not all !!! The burger and chips offering was the worst as I have seen better dog food . So glad my daughter did not eat it prior to our sports event the next day !!! When complaints were given the manager offered 25% off the bill! She did not come over and apologise to everyone or offer an explanation for the awful food and general service . Had I been there with just my family I would have left without paying and I think a full refund is due to those who never had an edible meal.Oddly the puddings were of an normal standard which made the whole experience strange and one not to repeat . I believe previously the food hear last year was fine and my husband has also used this hotel to eat in with a sports team but not any more !!!!! Avoid !!

we popped into the castle hotel on new year eve, for a few drinks and to see in the new year. when we entered the bar we were warmly greeted by the friendly bar man. we asked was there entertainment on tonight which he replied yes and pointed us in the right direction. much to our shock there was a lone male playing the keyboard, and singing.... there was nobody in the restaurant while he was playing, the majority of the people where In the bar where there was a younger crowd and it was a lot more lively. we stayed in the bar for the rest of the night. as the night progressed the atmosphere got better in the bar and everyone was seeming to have a good time. there was a female there that was drinking and having a very good time, on a number of times I did see her drink out of a bottle which was in her bag. the time then got to 10.45pm and this female went out for a fag and fell over outside near the road, she came back in and carried on drinking the booze out of her bag and and sat on the sofa by the fire, a few minutes went past and she shouted she needed to be sick.... so a member of staff grabbed a napkin and asked her to go to the toilets. she point blank refused and was violently sick all over herself the carpet and the sofa. the gentleman behind the bar was in shock, as where the other customers in the bar. apparently the female was staying in the hotel so the bar man asked her to go to the room she was staying In, a few of the staff members cleaned up the hideous mess!! after she finally left, we found out she was the general manager!!! I was shocked to find this out. I will not be returning to this place again!!!!!!

Came here yesterday for Sunday lunch with the family, the lunch was a very good price and there was a good selection of meat and veg available. Our drinks arrived quickly and I was pleased to find there was gammon on the carvery which isn't the most popular meat in most places you go to for a roast but was very impressed!

We were surprised to find the bar empty except for a lone drinker when the town was absolutely heaving but we decided to stay for lunch and we were glad we did.I had the fish and chips which was served piping hot and was delicious. The chips were excellent - extra large crispy ones yummy. The only thing I would have preferred was to have had them served on a plate rather than a wooden board. My husband had ham, egg and chips which he said was very nice but the ham could have been a better quality. We did enjoy our visit and would have lunch there again.

We were told we could order a meal, as long as we hurried up as there was a party arriving in five minutes. My husband asked what the pie of the day was, and was informed we only have steak and kidney pie, which was ordered. The waiter then informed us they only had "ham, and pork" which we queeried, as this is an unusual combination but accepted it. When we ate our food , the pie was ham and mustard. For dessert I ordered the cheese board, following a lengthy wait of 45 minutes my cheeseboard arrived, The finest sliver of cheese, and the brie was probably tasty had it been freshly portioned, And not dried out.

All of the staff we encountered were particularly cheerful and friendly. The restaurant was on the chilly side. This might have been due to it being a particularly windy day and there being not all that many people in.Our food was OK but portions are definitely on the small side. The exception is the excellent sticky toffee pudding, helpings of this were huge.It is difficult to sum up this restaraunt. It is all perfectly OK but seems to lack an atmosphere that makes one want to return.

meals cooked to order so a wait for it to arrive but delicious . Lovely to see the smiling Helen briefly before she went off duty. Lily did a great job in serving us . Only downside to the evening was that we were the only patrons. For something different try the pomegranate and pear salad. I had it as a main but would also be a lovely starter.

We were genuinely impressed with the quality of the food and the reasonable price. Although it was a quiet evening when we dined, the quality of service was a real stand out feature and is to be commended.

Went with the family for a meal for my Grandparents Golden wedding anniversary. Grandparents were staying at the hotel and said how nice it was , however we were unimpressed with the meal. After we ordered our starters, it took 20 minutes for someone to come and tell us that they had run out of pulled pork for the nachos. It then took another 20 minutes for the starters to come out , bearing in mind there were only a few tables eating. The mains came out around an hour later, unimpressed with the portion size for the price. The food was only lukewarm and the vegetable selection was stingy. We then ordered desserts and coffees and found the coffees came out first which I found rather strange. It was a long time to wait , especially considering we had my four year old cousin with us. The meal was pleasant enough and overall we sat there for four hours, which I felt was too long as although we had drinks afterwards it was just too long and this was due to the speed of service.

We stayed the night and the rooms are perfectly clean ... Although they were cold we asked for a heater and one was provided straight away ....(huge thumbs up) At 8pm we went down to the restaurant it was slightly busy .... We had to wait ages for our food ..We found the food with the long wait a huge disappointment (as having eaten there before and enjoyed the food this wasn't what we expected) This all changed at breakfast as the service was fast the food was excellent The Staff are very friendly and helpful as always.

Was passing by and popped in for a pint and a sandwich/bagette thing. Very good. I have not eaten there in 'full meal' mode, but there were several people tucking into what seemed to be good grub! Parking is problematical although ther is public car park accross the road.I understand that the accommodation is good, though that is 2nd hand knowledge.

I came to the castle with my family and friends, to celebrate my birthday and retirement. There were 13 off us. We were so well looked after. The staff were great, and the food was fantastic, my daughter was over the moon with her desert, when she booked the table she asked if there would be some form of chocolate desert on the menu. They made chocolate fudge cake especially. That's what I call going above and beyond. Nothing was too much trouble. We'll done the team at the castle hotel, we will be back.

Just had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Choice of three meats on offer, and, more importantly for family dining with different sized appetites, three choices of plate size, with prices to match. The beef was fantastic, nice and pink, just as I like it! Others in our party were very complimentary of the pork, and gammon too. Good selection of vegetables available. Lovely roast potatoes and tasty gravy. All nice and hot, and served on hot plates! Nice selection of deserts, and all helped along by helpful, cheery staff. Well worth a visit, and all at a very reasonable price. (5 adult meals, one small, three medium, and one large plate, plus deserts, and drinks, for £86.00)

Whilst in Devizes last week my partner and myself decided to pop into The Castle Hotel for a drink and enjoyed it so much we asked about Sunday lunch and was informed about the carvery it sounded good so we booked a table for Sunday the 21st. We arrived at 12.30 and sat at the bar and had a drink and the staff recognised us and said how nice it was to see us again and showed us to our table in the restaurant. we both decided on the Carvery. Well what can I say it was the best we have had for many a year. The staff were very nice and the Manager was Carving the carvery which I thought was great because it left the chefs to carry on with other orders. The food was fantastic as was the staff. Would recommend to anybody. Well done all it was a delight we will always come to you when in Devzes again. Many thank again keep up the good work.

We decided to pop out for sunday lunch after allready coming here on a couple occasions. Wow! Cannot be dissapointed we had 4 large carverys, gammon, pork and beef. The beef was beautifully cooked medium-rare. Pork was gorgeous(melt in mouth) and the gammon was lushious and smothered in honey.. massive home-made yorkies and an amazing selection of vegetables. Service was excellent and we will be back again very soon x

Wow, what a terrible experience, which ruined a 40th birthday dinner. What should have been a wonderful “feasting” menu with ample food to share, was in fact more like a famine. We were a table of 14 (11 adults, 3, children) and due to the party size, we had to choose their “feasting menu”- food pre-ordered and 50% paid some weeks in advance. So, they had plenty of time to prepare for our table. We had 2 plates of meat for 11 adults- these weren’t sharing plates, piled high. These were normal dining plates with a level amount of meat. Chicken was wonderful, however beef had lots of fat and gristle. HALF the table had what only can be described as a childs portion of meat and one member had no meat at all. I was sure more would arrive- surely 2 plates of meat for 11 adults is not suffice. But no, that’s all we got. When we told the waitress one member had no meat at all, she brought back a couple of slices of beef and said the Chef advised there was no more. Same with the potatoes- two bowls, one roast and one dauphinoise, some members getting little to none. We asked again- the chef advised none left, but we could have some boiled potatoes. Wow. The roasts were dry and hard, my knife struggled to get through them, they tasted 3 days old and had been reheated. The veg was boiled and plane. The gravy was in tiny little boats- again we had to ask for more. By the time it came food was cold Service was non-existent. Not once did anyone ask how our meal was, no one asked if we needed more drinks, no one asked if we needed sauces etc. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks ourselves. No cloth napkins, just cheap flimsy paper ones. The children’s meals were tiny as well, served on side plates and with no room for them to cut anything up. The desserts were below average. A sticky toffee pudding that tasted like it came out of the microwave, the crumble- I’ve had better supermarket ones. The table was booked by my dear Mother who hates to make a fuss and as it was a birthday she didn’t want to complain when we were all there. I have since tried to call to discuss the experience, with no joy. I have emailed and asked for the Manager to call; however, they want me to discuss it over email. No- I would like to speak with someone. Seems like they do not care for customer feedback or satisfaction. This was not a cheap meal either. If you are in a group and want to leave a restaurant where you’ve received no service, still starving, and ripped off, then book here.
