Went with friends. Party of 8 plus dogs. Food was amazing and as I'm gluten free had the most delicious fish and chips which is a rare treat for me along with very friendly service. Would definitely recommend it.

Me and my friends always love coming to the Wig, whether it be for a light lunch, a hearty dinner, or a glass of wine and a catch up. Callum and Steve are a dynamic duo and really make each visit special. Compliments to chef Holly for the wild mushroom gnocchi I had this afternoon. Followed by the lemon posset, it was a lunch to die for!

We popped in here after doing a walk about for a pint and a Pinot. Quaint pub. Nice decor, friendly staff. Good atmosphere. Later in the day we were looking for a place to eat dinner and decided to come back. Lovely menu. Again nice energy. Older set of folks which suits us just fine. Music was just loud enough to be noticeable and did not intrude on your ability to converse. Again friendly staff. Hats off to Peter and Steven who were our hosts. Excellent service. Delicious meals. As a starter, my husband had the mushrooms in Stilton. For the mains he had the hunter chicken and I had the fish pie. Delicious! A great spot for pints, Pinot, poultry and poisson. 😁

Popped in for a nice pint and cheesy chips, the pub is really cosy and comfortable, decent beer garden out the back, friendly welcome from the landlord, and just to mention that the loos were modern and super clean, another good surprise in any pub! While passing through Salisbury we called in hoping for a bowl of soup and coffee. Sometime ,after we were served two bowels of mushy peas with bits of ham buried in it. There was absolutely no liquid and it was stone cold. I had to return our “soup” to be heated properly. We couldn’t eat the full portion as there was a nasty taint to the taste of the dish. My companion is a visitor from Canada. The staff couldn’t care less about the standard of service we received and after forty years of working and teaching in this industry I was ashamed of the standard of food and service we were given. I’ve never before been served soup that can be eaten with a fork. There was only one other customer there and I had to ask him to moderate his language as the staff couldn't be bothered.

This is my favourite pub in Salisbury when I am over visiting which is usually every 12 to 18 months. Great service. Friendly happy staff. Good selection of local beers on tap and hot and cold food choices at reasonable prices. Great atmosphere quant and full of olde charm just like an English pub should be. Highly recommend will always be back.

Entered at 22.10 on Bank Holiday Friday evening. Not greeted by the alarmed member of staff who instead, frantically looked for the manager. He came over to tell me and my friends they were closing at it was so quiet!! Then agreed to take an order and give us generously, until 22.30. Then proceeded to charge me over 50% more for the same drinks we'd been consuming elsewhere. Terrible service, terrible attitude towards customers. Can you imagine a high street retailer closing early as it was quiet.....that would never happen so why do they think it's OK. What would the brewery or owners think? Just a thought, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know why the place is dead. Save the staff the aggravation of serving customers and just close up!

We had a really special afternoon at this pub for a big family reunion. The staff were just super, the food good but unfussy with plenty of choice (great for a group ranging from age 2 to 82!) and the ambience good - a lovely, old pub that’s still a proper pub. I’ve been here several times before for a drink when visiting the city, but I’m so glad we chose it for our reunion. My husband and I met our son in Salisbury and decided on The Wig and Quill for lunch. The pub was busy so we expected a wait for food however after an hour my husband asked if we had been forgotten. We were told at that point that it would be five minutes, only for another staff member to cut in and say that actually if they're being honest it would be 10 minutes. Another table who had ordered at least 30 minutes before us received their meals before we did. The 10 minutes extended to 30 and we finally received our food 90 minutes after ordering. The food was bland and tasteless. We had ordered the gammon and squeak. The gammon was more like ham and the squeak was just mashed potatoes with random vege stirred through it. The pepper sauce was cold. My husband went to pay the bill and offered his defence discount card in order to obtain the 25% discount advertised on the pubs Facebook page. After some deliberation among the staff who at first told him that they didn't give a discount they eventually offered 10%. Given the unacceptable wait I feel that they should have offered a discount whether we had a card or not. It was only after we left that I realised that the bill was far higher than expected. On returning we found that they had calculated the discount and added it onto the bill rather than taking it off! We have been going to The Wig and Quill for years but will never go again after this awful experience.

Visited last night with my parents and The Wig and Quill turned out to be a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air in a town where everything else was dead silent and closed. We sat in the garden area surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers, which added a delightful touch to our evening. The owner of the pub was extremely pleasant and well-mannered, making us feel important and welcome from the moment we arrived. My parents had the moules, which, for Belgians like us, was a challenge for the pub cook – and they were very pleased with their choice. The thyme sauce was delicious and complemented the dish perfectly. My fish and chips were excellent too! We also had dessert, and I tried the lemon posset, which was another big hit. What a lovely evening in a charming little pub!

We chose this restaurant based on the prior reviews and regret our choice. We had the fish and chip dinner. The fish batter was too moist/not crisp. In addition, service was minimal re: refilling glasses (not done at all), clearing plates, providing the bill, etc. We did not feel that the wait staff wanted to have customers. The dinner was nicely presented and the decor/seating areas were fine, hence the 3 stars. If given the choice, we would not return.

Fantastic food and great staff. My wife and I decided that would be have a drink. Upon entering the bar/ restaurant we were greeted by smiling staff. We decided that we would eat there, as we had been traveling most of the day. My wife decided that she would have the pie of the day, she then asked the bartender (Callum) what flavor was it, his reply was pork and something else. My wife then declined as she doesn’t like pork. Callum then said he would check to see if the chef had any other flavors, which alas he didn’t. He was very apologetic. We both decided to have Chicken burgers which were delicious and very reasonably priced. I went back the following lunchtime on my own, and was treated exactly the same as I was on the previous day. I must say that Callum is an excellent bartender and he always has a smile on his face. It was our first visit to Salisbury, but if we ever come back I know exactly where we will be eating at the Wig and Quill.

We hadn't looked up where it exactly was, but as we had finished visiting the cathedral we bumped into it, so we popped in around lunch time. Quaint little pub, really quite busy however - so you need to either time it right or call in advance. Cooked and made from scratch, or so we were told, so expect a bit of a wait - not suitble for a quick bite but the food is rrally good so definitely worth it. (picture of the current menu) Also, if you fancy meeting a bear this is the place to go. Super chill dog, stays very much by the bar or has a little wander. Very soft. Would recommend petting.

My steak was well done despite me requesting it to be medium rare. Our food took 45 minutes to come out. The price was expensive. But it is not too bad. The service only 1 star because of the food quality. The people serving us were kind.

This great little pub used to give a discount for Camra members on real cider (eg Old Rosie) but apparently no more, just ales. Nevertheless I’d rather support these smaller pubs over large conglomerates such as Wetherspoons. Great beer garden outback. I remember a visit...

Had lunch on a Saturday. Nice decor and layout of pub. Staff super attentive and friendly. Very dog friendly. Meals, 4 different main courses, were all lovely, hot and extremely good value for money. Photo of ploughman’s lunch, which we asked if we could have...

I've eaten here a few times. Sunday roast is amazing.... such great value for money and super tasty. Had the normal menu items as well and always hot and well presented The pub itself is clean and an amazing old history to it as well.

The roasts were ok but the puddings were so disappointing that I don’t think we’ll be back. The server over-sold the ‘special’ which was a white chocolate bread and butter pudding. It was awful - cold (you’d have thought she might have mentioned that), a watery berry compote and no crème anglaise as promised. The second, a cheesecake was only average. The chef obviously has skills but why try to mess about with the puddings (deconstructing cheesecake and serving solid cold B&B pud) The second Butcombe pub in a row that has been a disappointment so probably best not to try another.

After watching you be on four in a bed your attitude and negativity spoiled yourselves.

What an enchanting hotel. Atmospheric, beautifully decorated. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent, well judged portions and full of flavour. We will definitely come back with our four legged friends.

A wonderful lunch in a relaxing and calm environment with delicious food and excellent service. The stunning village is a great place to explore with bespoke shops and beautiful buildings. Will definitely return.
