Just popped in here for the toilet and a cuppa tea, the barmaid is probably the best barmaid I’ve ever met, so friendly , I asked for a cuppa tea , she served it to me with biscuits on a nice plate in the garden , some pubs aren’t that keen if you ask for tea or coffee but not here , thank you !!

You only really have to look at all the recent reviews to see how good this place is. I was served the most indulgent prawn and crayfish pasta- the pasta was homemade as was the accompanying bread, and everything was cooked freshly. It's a wonder the owner turns over a profit such was the quantity and quality of the seafood. There was a delightfully piquante sauce with fresh tomatoes and a rocket salad and there were nice touches- a staff member bringing a jug of iced water with lemon when I was unsure if I wanted another pint; offering to box up what I couldn't finish (it was a generous portion and I am a big chap who was at the end of a 25 mile cycle on a breakfast of pears and water). This was a Tuesday early lunchtime when you might expect less variety but the menu was great. The sloping garden was magical in the sunshine, overlooking south Wiltshire and full of birds and butterflies. I can't wait to go back and try their pies (homemade pastry!) and fish of the day. Don't miss it!

We had a wonderful meal at The Green Dragon tonight. Extremely generous portions and excellent value for money. Victoria is so helpful and funny too. Nothing is too much trouble. You certainly won’t leave hungry. 😋 I had the huge king prawn and cray fish linguine followed by a delicious Eton Mess.

Found this little gem by chance on the way to North Somerset. Lovely 14th century pub which served the most amazing home cooked food with great prices especially for the portions which were served. Made to feel really welcome 5* from us!

Gone are the days of service and effort. Our server came to the table with our drinks and just left the tray there with a grunt. The vegetarian roast came with boiled potatoes instead of the advertised roasties. And...wait for it...the Yorkshire had also made a disappearance. When asking staff just responded "oh we've run out". My apple and blackberry crumble took me back to school dinner days. I particularly liked the presentation which was submerged in custard so thick not even the straws on the left tray could help me. Glad we made a visit so we know to avoid this place in future.

We met up with family at this pub as it was about half way for both. We had the Sunday roast I was very disappointed thought the whole thing tasted as if it was reheated. Roast potatoes like aunt Bessie's yorkshire pud nice but cold red cabbage leeks just not nice. The best thing was the veg that came separate. I had the cheesecake that seemed like a tesco one with some squirty cream on the side. My son didn't eat his turkey the pig in blanket wasn't cooked properly and his sticky toffee pudding was like syrup pudding and not good. Would not recommend the food. The staff very helpful and friendly.

Awful pub, even worse experience!! Not a very nice atmosphere if you're not a local, staff are very rude and try to get you out before you've finished your meal! Very dirty pub with barely anything on the menu to choose from! If you want the choice of 3 beers and 2 wine's then this is the place for you!! The food came out after 50 minutes of waiting and the majority of it was cold! Also VERY expensive for what you get. Will not be returning, which is a shame because this is meant to be my local pub to the village i currently live in.

Visiting our son, we decided to take him out for a meal, and this was nearby. Big mistake - we were taken through a maze of grubby behind the scenes corridors to an empty, soulless restaurant area with dated decor, sticky table and lots of cobwebs. There was a choice of 2 beers - dark or light - and both men went for the dark, which had such an odd flavour that they didn't finish it....... The food (very basic, and very overpriced) took 40 minutes to arrive, and it really wasn't busy - no-one else in the eating area when we arrived. When it did, the portions were tiny, and the lasagne so hot that, even after decanting it on to the plate from its tiny pot, we had to wait 10 minutes before attempting to eat it, and I still burnt my tongue and the roof of my mouth. All in all, a horrible atmosphere with underwhelming food, and we couldn't wait to get out.

It's been some years since we last visited and we had intended to go somewhere else to eat, but were very pleased we booked here for Sunday lunch. The service was friendly and our meals were well prepared and portions were on the generous side, they also had some decent beers on offer from Hop Back Brewery - all in all a visit we would be very happy to repeat. The only slight downside is that there are very few parking spaces, not too much of a problem though if you are mobile, but something to consider.

It goes from the stop by the pub between about xx10 and xx16. Return from Salisbury was xx38. Thursday is the pubs coffee and cake morning but we had just eaten breakfast back at base. Hole Farm, see Woodpecker Lodge review. We booked a table for Friday ecening, but changed it when passing Friday morning to the Saturday evening. They do 2 real Ales from Hopback (Fugglestone and Citra on our visit), Keg from Hopback Crop Circle or Chimera) and bottles. Some lagers but I don't drink that so couldn't say what. Food was good value, French Pork with red cabbage very tasty, wife had Sea Bream which was really nice. Worth a visit.

Made an impromptu visit to this pub for lunch while visiting the area. The pub dates from the 14th century and our waitress was extremely friendly, telling us about its history, especially the Dickens connection, and even bringing us books to look through before and after our meal. The food itself was delicious. My partner enjoyed his battered haddock very much. My rib eye steak was cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed the mushroom and sage sauce I chose to have with it. Would thoroughly recommend the food and service, and would definitely go back if in the area again. Thank you for such an enjoyable lunchtime.

We decided to try this pub after seeing the new menu posted online. Our main courses were quite nice, the vegetarian lasagne was far too hot, probably due to fierce microwaving. We waited over half an hour for our desserts & when they arrived, the apple & rhubarb crumble was truly awful. It was a mound of yellow…having had the custard dolloped over the top. It tasted synthetic & was obviously a packet mix. Then I discovered there was no crumble underneath, just an uncooked heap of smudged dough…horrible. I complained politely to the barmaid/waitress…she was extremely sullen & just grabbed the plate without a word of apology. When we asked for the bill, I checked to make sure the dessert was deducted… which it was, however they had charged us for 3 main courses!! When I mentioned this, again, the barmaid was very grumpy and just snatched the bill off us & changed it. We were very disappointed. We were not made to feel welcome at all, although the gentleman we saw upon arrival was friendly. Sadly, we will not return & I would definitely not recommend this pub to anyone.

A group of us had lunch together. The menu was varied and only £11.00 for 2 couses. The food was mainly served in white pudding plates - didnt like that. - apart from the lasagne. Everyone enjoyed the lunch apart from the Chicken casserole. It was heavy on mashed potatoes , no greens and looked insipid with the chicken in a white sauce. Wouldn't score any points for presentation. Shame. Maybe the presentation needs addressing.

Have been meaning to write this review for a while . This is a lovely pub in the gorgeous village of Alderbury. We visited whilst staying for weekend at the shepherd's hut at the nearby Hole Farm. We went there for a birthday meal yesterday evening. The pub was fairly busy with a few locals having a couple of pints at the bar. Once seated, drinks orders and food orders were reasonably quick but then food took 45 mins or more to come out, which was a long time to be waiting. During the wait, no one came over to ask if we’d like some more drinks which was disappointing. Once food arrived it was delicious (I can attest to the mussels and beautiful sauce) but once finished, it took them a while to clear the table and ask if we wanted any more drinks or anything. Eventually we did have to call someone over as they had seemingly forgotten about us. If you’re happy to be kept waiting a long time then do pop along because the food is delicious, otherwise you might be better off elsewhere.
