We visited on the recommendation of friends and we would highly recommend to others. We enjoyed a fillet steak and a steak, mushroom & Stilton pie, both very good and served with plenty of vegetables. Service was very good and staff were friendly. The pub has a traditional entrance and bar area but we were surprised by the two spacious & smart restaurant rooms. On a very busy Saturday night it was good to have space between the tables. We look forward to visiting again.

Called in for Sunday lunch today it was 1230 and there was not many people around I guess the road closure does not help. We both went for the Sunday beef roast well presented on the plate beef was very chewy and hard to cut some of the veg was not that hot and the swede was stand out cold from the rest of the plate what a shame lovely place lovely setting food was a let down I don’t think we will be back after the experience we had.

Went to the Black Labrador for dinner whilst staying in the local area. Had a lovely couple of drinks outside in the sun followed by a very tasty meal in the restaurant which was a really nice open room. The service was spot on! Thank you for a memorable evening.

Went for Sunday Lunch. The food was amazing, so tasty and delicious- the chocolate brownie dessert was to die for! The service from each member of staff was wonderful and friendly. Definitely will be back!

We came for a casual Sunday lunch after a walk in the morning, which was delicious, it was in explained when I booked Sunday roast was on first come first served basis and we got one of the last lamb roast mid afternoon luckily. The food was really tasty a great roast beef looked a bit pink but tasted amazing and homemade Yorkshire pudding on all roasts 😍 Didn’t have starters as wanted room for a pudding and they didn’t disappoint. I had the Bakewell and it tasted delicious 🤤. Service was great and the waitresses were very friendly and accommodating considering the place was full. Definitely book to avoid disappointment, can’t wait to go back.

Would recommend for a delicious Sunday roast at a reasonable price. Several dishes can be adapted to be gluten free. The duck was delicious! Friendly staff and good service.

Lovely restaurant off the beaten path in Underbarrow. Had a lovely family dinner for my birthday. Food was generally well executed although the batter on my father’s fish was slightly soggy.

Having hiked from Bowness to the Black Labrador, we were ready for a rest and refreshments, so were extremely disappointed by the 'no muddy boots' sign on the front door. We then did an about turn and what felt like the walk of shame passed their patrons sitting by the window. Just awful and such a pity as it looked like a lovely place. Needless to say, we pushed on to Kendal and enjoyed great food, drink and service in a different establishment.

Tried it after saw it on trip advisor , knew it was going to be good when Ice cold water on the table before we were seated, cauliflower in tempura was perfect , lovely crisp fries , ham on a fresh bap with homemade piccalilli and a perfect burger Will definitely be going again

Returned to the Black Labrador after a superb visit last year. Happy to find it was unchanged. Lovely, welcoming staff and excellent food. We love this place and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

The Black Labrador is a popular lovely old village pub with a smart modern extension. Nothing seems to much trouble for the lovely friendly staff. The food is exceptional, a great menu cooked to a high standard. The portions are eye popping and on our two visits failed to manage attempting a desert after a starter and main. This pub is well worth a visit and if I was local I would be a regular.
