First time in the Punchbowl, and I was impressed with the friendliness and warm reception we received. We never ate, so we can't rate. Will return.

Probably one of the roughest pubs in York. Guaranteed punch up and brawls in the street every night.

Just popped in for a drink and loved the place. Nice staff and a cosy, welcoming interior. The pub has lots of history including the ghostly history! Well worth a visit.

Went here for a Northern Soul Night, music was great, great DJ's on the night playing cracking music, beer was flowing nicely at a reasonable price, bar staff on the night were nice.

Best pub In York. Everyday they have different activities and they screen sports. Amazing place with an amazing ambience :)

Nice little local pub. We did make the mistake of visiting on bingo night so had to be quiet! But once that was over we enjoyed our night. Really reasonable prices and friendly staff.

Had two night going into here as BnB was close and first night had a good game of bingo cards had good night 2nd night bit more chilled watch sport on many screens , good prices for beer loads cheaper than center of York and not to far

Was staying over for the rugby in a hotel near by went here and such a great place full of locals enjoying themselves good staff decent prices something on most of the time sky sports a great find

I love this public house it's well worth a visit

My wife and myself have been in the pub and food &B business for over 40 years ,now retired. Pound for pound this is the cleanest and best value pub in this district. Well done to the landlady and staff,a credit to hard work and respect for the customers you serve, sensible music at a good volume level. Well worth a visit. K&B

First visit, cheap John Smith's, horses on the telly, friendly locals, dog asleep at the bar, what more could you ask for in a pub? 😊

We went there last night 16.12.2022 as our concert with Emma Buntin at the Barbican was cancelled. As it was near our guesthouse. We had a great time as they was a open mic night. Some very talented people sang there. The guy who runs the open mic night is called: Anthony Rivers Thompson was very nice to chat too and makes sure everyone has a great night. The bar staff was extremely accommodating. OK its not a posh place and not for everyone. But if you enjoy a laugh, cheap booze but a good pint. A laugh and a friendly atmosphere then this is the place for you.

A great local pub. Probably not one for tourists but having said that we were out of towners but weren't made to feel unwelcome. I got the impression most people in there were familiar with each other. We enjoyed a pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord and a pint of Staropraman.

Nice pint outside. New fencing and seating is much better looking. Clean and tidy.

Good place to go for a few when things are stressful

Staff need educated on the current Sterling bank notes within the uk region as they wouldn't accept a northern Irish bank note after giving me my drink, little embarrassing.... Also its like a bar that time forgot😂

This is a great pub. The building is large and spacious. There are several drinks on draft. Personally, I went for a berry cider, which was from the bottle, nice and cold and tasted great. There are some really nice new wooden tables and seating outside. The staff were attentive and helpful to myself and other customers. I would come back if I was in the area again.

I've been In This Pub And Had Flat Pint Tasted Disgusted never go back into this Pub. I've heard landlady is not pleasent. So I won't be going back into the pub.

I liked it but you might not want to take your mum there. Reasonably priced beer, nearest pub to the hospital. It's a drinkers pub.

I think I caught happy hour. I only paid £9 for two pints of beers

Seems like nice place, a bit over priced for what it is. Looks amazing now it's renovated.. this could be a great venue, unfortunately it's the same rough clientele...

Steak was supposed to be medium rare but was blue. Apple pie was cold. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Me and my partner where in on a Wednesday night, very quiet but the bar man was very pleasant and welcoming as was quite a good singer as it was karaoke night , but has a talk about whether he was Scottish or Irish

Nice old fashioned English pub - cheap beer, sports on quietly and a moderate but lovely clientele. If you want intricacy you're in the wrong place, if you want a pint and a round of pool with your mates after work (whenever that is), this is the place for you.

Slow service. Over cooked gammon and sausages that were burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. Definitely won’t be returning

Disgusting service, know how to make a young person feel unwelcome don't you? I can understand your prejudice but it was clear we were just two people you wanted a nice quick drink. Took forever to get eye contact let alone a drink, my friend might come back put personally I will be avoiding it like the bloody plague Oh and did I mention the overflown toilet? Fuimos allí nuestra primera noche porque sabíamos que sería un lugar decente para comer, ya que sabíamos de la cadena de pubs de Nicholson y no nos decepcionó: la comida estaba recién preparada y teníamos la oferta de dos comidas y dos bebidas para 22) 95, que pensamos que era realmente razonable, ya que tenía un gin-tonic como bebida y mi marido una pinta.

Very local local beer prices average . Unfortunately barman rude and abusive making one very uncomfortable.

We had a really good meal here, lots of delicious sounding options on the menu, we had burgers. Also had bar snacks, the loaded chips with pulled pork were amazing

Took my son and his pal to play pool. Not as cheap as Sam Smith's, but reasonable enough. Pleasant people and atmosphere.

Not at all what I expected. Looks ok from outside but guess you have to be a very drunk student to appreciate the inside. Not my sort of place and wont be going again.

Good traditional pub full of character. Varied menu, good food and prompt attentive service. Supposed to be haunted, but then so are most pubs in York 😁. The toad in the hole was delicious!

popped in after a day tat the races, plenty of different rooms to sit in clean and friendly. Food excellent and freshly coked service good pleasant and swift.

Visitamos York cada año y, por lo general, recibimos un be & be u hotel con desayuno. Este viaje decidimos reservar solo la habitación y salir para el desayuno. Entramos al ponche y encontramos una mesa. Decidimos realizar el pedido a través de la aplicación Wetherspoon y no nos decepcionó, ya que todas las expectativas se cumplieron. El servicio fue excelente y la comida era muy buena. Gran experiencia y buen equipo. Gracias ???

I enjoyed my experience with the pub the staff are very good and friendly especially the young lady who served me she goes above and beyond to help.

Not a great place. Unruly kids running about all over the place. Some fat bloke throwing beer mats from every table for said kids.

Amazing experience which made our weekend stay. Called in Saturday and Sunday evening and was made to feel very welcome by the manager and manageress, also made some friends whom will stay in contact with, especially Chris. Thoroughly entertained by Joan. It was like a home from home. Looking forward to future exchange trips. Would thoroughly recommend x
