The Punch Bowl JDWetherspoon in York

Classic burger only comes as a burnt burger aparantly, and is not available like the mcdonalds cooked version. I get it's wetherspoons but Malvern hills burgers come out not burnt. Staff are coughing wile serveing. Really bad experience for the kids to see! 😞 Pizzas under cooking was the other side of clumsy teen cooking in kitchen.

It's a wetherspoons what do you expect !!! Full of drunks on a Wednesday night (1830), we called in for one before going for a meal in a restaurant near by. NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!! A DUMP !!!!!

A great corner post of York this busy little pub with external beer garden is great for the time out, great service plus you can use there app and you wont have to wait in line at the bar.

Good selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices. Staff seem friendly.

The pub was cosy, welcoming, fairly busy and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly,polite and professional. Food was not up to usual Weather spoons standards...it was Luke warm. Hot drinks machine was in maintenance mode for ages and although staff were made aware we did not get to have a hot drink until we were nearly leaving pub.

Spent a weekend in York and visited the punch bowl a couple of times. Beer and food were quality and reasonable in price. Enjoyed what we had .

I went to order breakfast at the bar as I was struggling to get online to use the app. I realised as I went to place the order I’d forgotten my table number so I asked the barmaid if she knew what number it was. Her response was short and demeaning to the point I felt like an utter inconvenience as a customer and so I walked away to get it. I returned to the bar to be served by Harry who was lovely and patient, and another barmaid, Rachael, came to speak to me to check I was OK and apologise for how I was spoken to. I hope the management see this as they both deserve a massive thank you!!

Full pub too long a wait to order food so fair enough but lots of dirty tables glasses,food plates, rubbish not cleared only had the 1 drink!

Was ok to many tables with plates of leftovers on obviously not enough staff. We had to move some plates and glasses just so we could sit down and look at the menu.

A typical Wetherspoons convenient for the railway station. A good starting point to head down Micklegate and into the city centre. ( Look out for the Ackhorne pub down St Martin's Lane..a real gem.) Had a pint of Faithful Transcendence bitter by Wilde Child brewery.£2.63 less a 50p CAMRA voucher. Very good pint.

Busy bar with great prices for good quality beer unlike some of the other bars around here. OK its a weatherspoons but don't let that stop you coming in. And the toilets were within walking distance 😃😃

Food average as expected. Most staff friendly except waitress from the dark who thought was ok ti throw foid down without asking whos was whos. Quite comical. Love the natural ambiance of local village idiots. Not a bad experience..

Very busy but managed to find a table for 10 of us - ordered 3 sides for how ever much it is now - filled a hole! Drinks good and loaded chips and pizza good as always in spoons!

So this my first time and last in this pub, when I arrived and please note im not from the area, where I stood at the bar and waited for over 10 minutes totally ignored to then be placed a sign in a forceful manner in front of me stating this is for app orders only, if I was told this earlier I would have easily moved, the manager who placed it there had no communication with me and certainly didn’t have a smile on her face. I understand the bar is extremely busy and very well done on that but how on earth can this level of hospitality be tolerated by so many people.

We went there for a full breakfast as we have has it at a spoons back home and it's delicious for the money. This however did not live up to it. The bacon was barely cooked, I had eggs and they had shell in them and the portion of beans was very small. We were only visiting York for the day but wouldn't go back to this whetherspoons.

as far as spoons goes its not bad, food is ok and a good selection of beer at a reasonable price.Service is pretty quick at the bar here too compared to the postern gate in york.

Fantastic service from the guy with the long hair who I think is the manager. Never stopped working and polite to everybody. Good food and delivered quick.

Had breakfast here while we were staying in York... Saturday morning was absolute chaos! Crammed in like sardines and only 1 coffee machine, asked for the table to be wiped a couple of times but it was never done. Called in early Sunday morning and it was like a different place! Clean, tidy, staff friendly and breakfast yummy! It's a Spoons and we all know how busy they get!

This was a one off meeting on saturday of veteran Green Howards comrades ( some of whom had'nt seen each other for many years ) who served together. The place was bouncing and everyone was having a great time and even gave the pub an impromptue sing along!! The staff were working there socks of but when one of our number took ill they made sure he was ok and kept coming to check on him untill we got him away home for which I would like to thank them very much. Great venue and great staff.

My grandaughter and myself enjoyed our visit to the Punch Bowl very much. Good value for money and everything was very tasty 😋 I would recommend a visit here.

Good food, recommend the pasta Alfredo. Some of the problems include: there was a 16 minute wait for food (not so bad) but it quickly turned to 1 hour. There was A lipstick mark on the rim of the glass. And the app didn't work when we (attempted) to order pudding. Good visit, I'm sure these issues were because it was busy.

The first place to get a breakfast or a beer when arriving by train, very handy. Usual spoons.

It's a nice pub, and I have had some good food here back in 2019, however the last time I was here the breakfast was so bad we had to leave half of it. We purchased them on the vouchers back in autumn 2022, so only paid a few pounds each, however edibility is one criterion I expect for any money. This didn't meet it. Will not eat here again, but will go in for drinks.

Called here as the Postern Gate (closer to our digs) wasn't doing food. Worth the short walk as it was a much nicer place. Still had to clear our own table, though. Good food and good beer.

Popped in for a cheap and cheerful evening meal. I ordered the Christmas Dinner which was pretty dire tbh. Reconstituted turkey slices. Mash potatoes and no roast potatoes. Raw parsnips. Worst of all in my opinion there was no cranberry sauce. The server offered extra gravy or bbq sauce!!!! as they had nothing else. No mint sauce or even apple sauce at a push. The manager did offer a discount on a dessert but by the time I finished my meal I had given up. Really disappointed as prev I have always had a satisfactory meal. Would not choose to eat here again.

Really tasty food, with a great burger, lovely onion rings and tasty chips. The service was great, and pretty fast considering how busy it was. And there was a great thronging atmosphere with people on the odd Christmas meal out and a busy bustling vibe. Just docked a point as the chips were very nearly cold when the food arrived. Still tasty, but worth noting.

Tasty paninis and great beer at lunchtime, will definitely come again.

Didn't have food so can't comment on that. Didn't stay long enough after the attitude from the staff. Disgrace won't be back to this place

Quick service, nice polite helpful staff, excellent meals

Had a lunchtime meal here today, + it was lovely. 5 chicken strips, Jack Daniels bbq sauce, coleslaw + chips and a multi refillable cup of hot chocolate. The strips were meaty, hot and the batter was bubbly. Chips were hot, crispy and plenty on my plate for a midday meal to satisfy my hunger. Just enough JD sauce and coleslaw to accompany the strips and chips too. All hot drinks are refillable which is great news on a cold day like today, and the hot chocolate tasted good, for a machine. There are plenty of tables to sit at, ranging from bar stools to sit down tables and chairs, and also a courtyard is situated outside for warmer days. It was busy today even though it was cold. Tables were being cleared quickly, and the general feel of the place was welcoming and clean. You order at the bar, and the bar staff were pleasant and efficient and even over a busy lunchtime rush, it didn't take long for our food to be brought out. Being a short walk from the town centre and train station is definitely a bonus. Recommended.

Food was great and arrived at the table quickly, atmosphere was great, only issue was there was only one member of staff at the bar and it was starting to get busy as i went at lunch time so it took a while to place order, however I would recommend based on the food.

One of the few places we found in York open for food later on a Sunday night. The staff were lovely. The food was good (had the cauliflower curry with a side of chicken bites with soy dip). Quite quiet, but good atmosphere.

Place was nice, but we had a breakfast. The toast was very hard, the meal was cool. The lady said, the toaster had broke down a couple of weeks ago and they were doing the toast on the planchet. She did ask if I wanted anything else, but, I was part way through it. I should of taken it back at the beginning

Ordered breakfast and my girlfriends bacon was undercooked. Told the staff they took it back and gave a large breakfast at no extra cost! Outstanding service

Disappointed to learn they have stopped selling Steak/Grills completely. Otherwise, the food we did get was nice and very well priced!

We ordered breakfast it came and it was cold so we sent it back and get fresh ones and they was cold as well so got a refund and left

Funny place is York all the people tend to talk about is york races and the A64 !!! they probably still think the world is flat and if you travel out of york you might fall off -anyway don't let that put you off this a great wetherspoons the john smiths doesn't have to travel far and is spot on -nice pub too on the opposite corner the Windmill -also if you come out of the punch bowl turn right there are a few decent pubs down the road -in fact walk down any road and there will be a pub -you're never far from a pub and somewhere to sleep in York -no wonder the house of lords wants to move there.
