The Punch Bowl JDWetherspoon in York

This is the worst weatherspoons we have been in. Went to order lunch at 12 noon before catching our train. Used the app and most were unavailable. No chili, no jacket potatoes, no ham egg and chips. No fish. No ham pizza. Terrible. Ended up with a tasteless cheese pizza. Place was grubby

More pub-like than a usual Wetherspoon's. Staff very friendly.

Typical spoons, Monday club price £2:99 a pint of Guinness,you can't beat that I paid £6:50 in other nearby pubs. Nice friendly atmosphere,staff very helpful and friendly.

Super place and very handy if your staying in the premier inn, The breakfast here is superb and definitely on to try., Busy in the evenings but that's a sign of a good pub, Definitely recommend visiting for food or drinks

Very cold no heating on. Cold breakfast food, this becoming the norm for Wetherspoon, we have scaled down how often we go, would rather cook my own.

Came here for New Year’s Eve. Was very good, toilets were clean. Drinks were nice

What a fantastic pub!!! We called in for ONE.. and ended up staying all night!! Met some friendly people from Scarborough and had a blast!!! Such a great atmosphere, especially on a cold winters night after they CANCELLED THE CHRISTMAS MARKET !! Had more fun in this pub anyhow!! Lol ❤️

We came for two visits over the last couple of days. The evening was a lovely atmosphere and quite relaxed, with food being served at a good pace and the breakfast was lovely also. Would recommend.

Bar staff ignored myself and friends for 15 minutes serving other people who came to bar after we walked to bar to get service this used to be a great pub before covid now only deserves 1 star for bad customer service

Chose to try here for breakfast. Decent price and unlimited refills a bonus. Tables could of done with a clean. Food average.

Absolutely disgusting breakfast! items not cooked or warmed up from day before? Ordered well done breakfast muffins eggs like rubber and bacon almost raw not as ordered. Left most of it as lack of staff to complain to. Will avoid like the plague in future it may be cheap but truly awful offering. Only good thing was the coffee.

Fish and chips ok and do smaller portion. Baked potato inedible, some very weird topping purporting to be cheese, really?! Ice cold salad.

Extraño, no hay papel higiénico en los baños para hombres por más de 4 horas. A pesar de que fue limpiado dos veces. Pero no lo suficiente. Genuinamente simple de resolver pero sin sentido común.

A pleasure to come here, small cosy with a charming garden/patio area. Usual Wetherspoons food and prices, all in all very pleasantly surprised. Particularly pleasant and friendly young lady on duty as barstaff this morning. It is often easy to ignore individuals, but this member of your staff made a particularly good impression. Thank you

Was okay, albeit pretty busy as our steam train excursion arrived slap bang during the busy lunch hour period! Not the fault of the pub, of course. The food was okay, but not up to normal Wetherspoon standards, probably due to the pub being pretty busy. I would definitely go back again preferably when it's less busy!

We've had several tasty meals here while on our short break. The staff have been lovely. However, they seem to have a problem with keeping on top of their stock, so they run out of things. Tonight it was peas. Last night we wanted salad, but couldn't order what we wanted as they had run out, but later they came to say they had run out of what we had finally ordered, but had some of what we originally ordered but had run out of. It got so complicated that we weren't sure what we were going to finally end up with. The food that arrived was delicious though. Can't have been bad as we went back again 🤣

Standard Weatherspoons and what you would expect

I think ordering beans on toast with 2 poached eggs is better than ordering 2 poached eggs with a side of beans, what do you think,which ever you go for get it here its a nice little weatherspoons conveniently located between our hotel and the city centre

It's a spoons, so cheap. But the decor is tired and the food barely adequate.

Can always rely on Wetherspoons, they serve Kopparberg on tap which I love.

For what you get for the price you cannot complain. Food, drink is what the price reflects and the staff are the best.

Called in for a pint, beer is good but lacks atmosphere.

El huevo y el tocino estaban helados cuando se presentó el desayuno. El servidor recogió el tocino con sus manos de nuestro plato aconsejando que ella conseguiría tocino fresco. ¡Entonces descubrimos que las hachís estaban congeladas en el medio! Cuando se lo conté a la misma señora, nos trataron con un suspiro fuerte y nos dijeron que nos traería nuevos hachís morenos. Pedimos un nuevo desayuno en su lugar, ya que todo lo demás se enfriaría con el tiempo. ¡Terminamos recibiendo un reembolso en su lugar y no volveremos!

Always visit here when in York. After several visits I sadly have to say the service and staff have gone down hill. Staff looked so unhappy, miserable faces and no interaction. It won't deter me visiting again as maby there is more to todays visit? Cheer up guys!!

Brought the dog here and he loved it! He had a chicken tikka massala and was very happy. Look at his happy little face. Dog gives it a 10/10 🐶

Good food, good drinks but no WIFI and the app is not working - WHY? Been advised by staff that it won't be remedied in the near future - WHY?

Always a good spot for a late night drink. We went for the 4 nights of our stay and for three of them at 22.00 it was quiet'ish and one night invaded (?) by a large group of students on a pub crawl (who changed the atmosphere until they left) - good to see ID checks on everyone. Would recommend as staff do work hard and were very efficient each night.

The Punchbowl is a nice cosy pub next to York walls and the bar. It's not as big as most Wetherspoons, but it has the same wide range of beers, lager and cider, including eight hand pulled cask conditioned real ales when we visited. The cask ales we sampled were in very good condition. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the service is very quick. It's a very popular pub and always busy due to the great value of the food and the cheap beer.

A small Wetherspoons but oozes charm with friendly staff offering like all Spoons value for money.. 5 minutes walk from the railway station .Highly recommend

We did a night's stop over in York for a bit of a getaway. Booked in the premier Inn, which is always a pleasant night's kip, and realised that this spoon was opposite. We had our evening meal in h re and managed to find the only table available as it was packed being Friday evening. The service was excellent and staff very attentive to cleaning the tables and making sure everyone got their food and drinks in a timely manner. My partner has the pizza and I had one of the vegan options available. The food was very good and the evening went well. The next day we had our breakfast in here as their breakfasts are great value and a lot cheaper than the hotel. It was very good and with lashings of tea as well. It looked like a lot of hotel folk had their breakfasts here as it was packed with tourists. Great pub, great staff, great service.

I thought I would try this pub seeing as it's a Wetherspoons. So I had a small English breakfast and a cappuccino. The breakfast was freshly cooked and filling. I will be going back there.

Went there for breakfast and dinner on a few occasions. Value for money and the food was fresh and well prepared. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back.

I like a Wetherspoons pub - unpretentious, good pub food at a reasonable price, good selection of drinks and usually in lovely old buildings full of character. My first visit to the Punch Bowl which is very conveniently located a five minute walk from the train station. The food was as expected - I had the all day brunch. Sausage and bacon both very nice. Service was quick and staff were all pleasant and efficient. Pub a little gloomy but toilets nice and clean!

Went to order chicken but was told they didn't have any. Went back to my wife and told her to choose something else. Went to order fish n chips, 'sorry, no fish'. Maybe it would have been easier to ask what they did have. Went across the road and ate at a different pub.

I've always looked for a Wetherspoon when away from home. So far, I've never had bad service in one of these places. 🤗

Typical Wetherspoon pub, excellent value for food and decent quality as well. Service was good. Drinks and food ordered very quickly. As always heck of trek to the toilet but they were clean and well maintained.

Cosy pub had breakfast and dinner in there. Buy do not do steak anymore which is a shame!

What can you say ... Nice atmosphere and the price is right⁹⁷

I got served at the bar no problem, found a table, the menus were sticky and stuck together along with the table that had rings on from other people sitting there. We ordered food on the app - which was fine. I got ID when served my drink (which is understandable, the girl was just doing her job) meant I couldn't drink either of the pints that I had paid for. The lady offered me a free soft drink as a replacement. To be later denied the soft drink by clearly the manager on shift. It probably cost them less than 10p to offer this good customer service. So I then had to eat my food without a drink. While the rest of my time at this pub to be stared at and followed whether it be at my table, going to the toilet or in the little untidy beer garden. It made me feel uncomfortable. Overall I wouldn't recommend if you want Luke warm food and the atmosphere to be unsettling.

Absolutely no vegan or vegetarian breakfast, brunch and limited other options available. We visited at 10:30am so, was there a massive stampede of vegans and vegetarians that morning? Probably not.... For a city like York, only having two Wetherspoons in the centre was a big surprise. We should have gone to the other one.

Been to this pub quite a few times and it rarely disapoints. Good selection of beers and decent food. Good quick service and friendly staff. Handy for the city centre and the station

The environment is very good, the price is favorable, the food is very good, the window view is beautiful, and the wine is delicious. My wife and I ate here two nights in a row, recommended. People are very nice here, I like foods and drinks very much, what's more, their reasonable price is fine with us, beautiful scenery from window is also a visual feast. My wife and I came here twice in two days. Unforgettable experiences and memories here. Thank you for operating such a good place. It's fortunate enough to be here.

Always pretty decent, it's a Spoons so obviously it's cheap and Cheerful, I prefer this one to the Postern Gate 💯💯

This is a Wetherspoons a short walk from York train station. I dropped in for breakfast as i was staying nearby. As pluses the place was clean and staff friendly. Sadly my breakfast was distinctly average, the hash browns were dry and rubbery, the bacon a tad underdone, a tiny dollop of not overly hot beans and the toast came out without butter.

Really nice food. It was so npisey though, probably picked wrong weekend due to the York Horse racing. Food always great. Tables not cleaned so actually did this ourselves. I found the bottle spray and cloth (didn't mind) as staff were trying to keep up with the orders. Crammed full of people. Barely squeezed by but did get a table and enjoyed my meal with a pint.

A decent meal at fair price. Nice beers too.
