The Punch Bowl JDWetherspoon in York

Took 40 minutes for our food to arrive after asking where it was. We had to ask 3 times for someone to clear our table and the male staff member with long hair was rude and pulled a face when asked to clean the table.

York tiene muchos pubs que sirven comidas (y bebidas) a una amplia gama de precios. It was ok as far as Wetherspoons go. Service quick, when ordered from the app. Sadly we didn't rate the pitcher of Purple rain, tasted like toilet cleaner, and left it.

Best pub in Micklegate area bar none.

It’s a spoons, so always decent price for what you get. But this was pretty poor, service wasn’t great, staff didn’t seem to be aware of what was going on, my plate was then just slammed on the table as the server walked past. It’s quite cramped for a spoons but nice to have an outside area

Long wait for breakfast (20mins) despite the pub being quiet. Items missing from ours and (other people’s) by the sounds of it. What we did receive was well cooked.

Visited this pub recently. The food was bad. I ordered the Ultimate Burger, which was greasy, and the chips and onion rings were overcooked.

Normally Spoons breakfasts are decent. Ordered a traditional breakfast. Looks like the chef couldn’t be bothered. Bacon didn’t look like it seen a grill or pan. Beans were still frozen pictured in the right of the plate. All cold.

Limited tables so get in early...

It's a Wetherspoons - this is a fairly small pub, so best to avoid it on Friday/Saturday evenings or whenever there's a big football match on. The food was great and the drink were good too. This 'spoons is not as student heavy as the Postern Gate.

This is one of the smaller Wetherspoon pubs we have been in. Nonetheless, the level of service, cleanliness, and food quality was on par or exceeded the larger ones I have been in. Coming from Canada, I was very surprised to see Ruddles on tap; I haven't had that beer for over 20 years. It was also a cask ale, so a double bonus for me. Our fish & chips and bangers & mash arrived quickly and hot. It was good and more than enough for us. Next time we are in York, we will definitely pop in.

Been in a load of Wetherspoons over the years, the Punchbowl in York is right up there with the best of them, great selection of drinks and the food platter for £14.99 was spot on for me and the wife, defo be back next time we are in York.

You get what you pay for here and then some. Always fast service and food tastes good.

Ordered 3 plates for 14.99 - all perfectly fine there, and then a chicken basket meal, which came with soggy definitely twice cooked chicken bites and 10 chips. Literally 10, so small portion we counted as they were scratty ones too. Looks like they miss judged the size of the portion they cooked for the loaded fries and the plate and just threw the leftovers on the plate rather than cook more. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Shame on one of the meals.

Standard weather's food. Great pint though.

not so cheap bad these days we had a rhubarb crumble and it came out cold however the beer as usual is excellent more of a drinking pub than an eating pub

We tried the second Wetherspoons in York to see if their breakfast was any better than the Postner gate one. Called in around 9.45am Friday morning, it was quite busy but was served quickly. This time we ordered the 'large' breakfast as we were travelling on. Unfortunately yet again the food was luke warm, bacon and mushroom totally cold, and the 'toast' was still bread on one side. Again we handed it back to be brought a second one that was not much warmer than the first but at least we could eat it. Mentioned this to the staff again and she said she would inform them.

Gran pub, personal servicial agradable, comida encantadora que se sirvió rápidamente y tubería caliente. Fuimos a desayunar también. Las mesas se despejaron rápidamente.

Usual food, quick and tasty. Plenty of variety I drinks and reasonably priced.

Mi experiencia con las cucharas es que son muy similares, pero siempre hay excepciones, esta no es una de ellas. Al parecer, había escasez de personal, una persona en la barra y otra trabajando en las mesas. Eso fue lo primero que noté que las mesas necesitaban ser eliminadas, pero parecía haber circunstancias atenuantes. La comida era buena y la cerveza era excelente, me gusta cerveza de barril, algunas buenas opciones.

After a tour on the York Ghost Bus ,food and drink were required.And after a previous positive experience at the Harrogate Spoons are Hope's were high for our food.Unfortunately this is a negative review.food ordered Ultimate burger and lasagne with cheese garlic bread .Wow what a dissapointment a tortilla topped with cheese and wacked in the merry chef is not a pizza garlic bread.A lasagne wacked in the micro and almost warm. Chips served warm .And burgers torched like the elephants foot at chernobyl.are not a great start.positives the fresh salad was nice.Im sorry guys I hate leaving negative reviews but this was £30.00 with drink deals.it fell well short of our expectations.It just goes to show how even within a nationwide company within 20 miles of each other.One can deliver and one sadly cannot.

Had an amazing time at The Punch Bowl on Blossom Street, York, thanks to the incredible service from Charlotte! From the moment we walked in, she made us feel welcome with her warm smile and friendly attitude. She was attentive, knowledgeable about the drinks, and made some fantastic recommendations. Her enthusiasm and great sense of humor added to the lively atmosphere, making our visit even more enjoyable. Charlotte is an absolute star behind the bar—can’t wait to return for another round. Highly recommend!

Is it too much to ask for a" please and thank you " from staff when they are requesting payment.?? Or has" please, thank you, and service with a smile been omitted from the training manual at this establishment???? (except the american lady, who actually knows what SERVICE INDUSTRY means) Any thoughts anybody?

La cerveza estaba bien, que siempre está en Wetherspoon's. Es la comida con la que tienen problemas, otra comida servida casi fría, con papas fritas empapadas. Realmente necesitan concentrarse en servir comida caliente en lugar de entregarla a la mesa rápidamente.

The back was hot and there was no signal and no wifi which made ordering a massive pain.

Great Spoons value. Called in for breakfast en route to Scotland via train from York station. Great location. Quiet atmosphere at the time we called in but I can imagine it'll be buzzing come an evening.

Went here on a Tuesday eve expecting it be steak night like in all other wetherspoons but not in this one so ended up with pizza. Chips were just warm have eaten here previously had a breakfast wrap which had to send back as was cold. Place is shabby & on this particular evening the place was freezing with no heating on. Could do with a complete make over including the toilets as have been in better public toilets. Have been in plenty of wetherspoons around the country think this must be the worst so far. The only plus is the cheap drinks!

Website said it was wheelchair accessible. I had to go round the back to enter, just to get stuck in a very busy, densely packed part of the pub with no space to sit or even turn around to leave. Left hungry and embarrassed.

I was looking forward to a proper English breakfast, but this was an absolute letdown. The fried egg came with hair on it—a clear sign of poor hygiene and lack of attention in the kitchen. That alone was enough to put me off the meal. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone until they seriously improve their hygiene and food quality.

Good wethersooons bar in the centre of York near train station and city centre , nice atmosphere and food is good as well , been there several times now while staying in York , definitely recommend

Friendly team that are on the ball, well maintained lines and probably the best pint of Stowford Press cider I've had anywhere. At £1.99 a pint, absolutely nothing to complain about.

After an almost cold breakfast, a rock hard panini at lunch and cold chips with the evening meal, I would not recommend eating here. I ordered a double Glenmorangie from the app, duly ticking the box for no mixers, I got it with a glass full of ice. When I complained, the barman took it away and brought me another one, which was the same one but he had used his fingers to take the ice out. When I complained to the manager, I was told I had to tick 'remove ice' on the app. An option which is at the very bottom of a very long list of mixers. When I order a single malt, I am ordering a single malt, not ice, not coke, nothing, just single malt. If i want something else, I will order it. The manager's attitude was inexcusable. She needs some training on her people skills.

The table was dirty, the food was not so good. It looked like we were given the last fries lying around, which had been sitting there for a while, Macdonald's ones are better. The mashed peas were very bland (maybe they are supposed to be? first time trying them in a pub). The Whitby scampi were also not good and barely tasted like scampi. The only redeeming factor was the battered fish which I enjoyed. First time and last time in a wetherspoon, at least to eat !

He estado en muchas, muchas cucharas alrededor del país. Tenía muchas ganas de un buen desayuno. Llegó a las 9. 30 (no creo que sea demasiado tarde) para que me digan que no había huevos! ¡Nada de huevos en serio y serían reemplazados por hachís! ¡Te pregunté si podía hacer tostadas y no! Llegó el desayuno, momento en el que estábamos muy hambrientos, fríos como piedra, 3 hachís morenos, una cucharadita de frijoles, tocino frío y una salchicha fría! ¡Tampoco nos dieron un recibo! ¡Evite esto Cucharas! Absolutamente basura. Probablemente el peor desayuno en Weatherspoon's que he tenido.

Thought we would have breakfast before going to train station for our train,was undecided wether to use hotel or weather spoons,wish we choose hotel Food wasn't very warm, butter had melted, coffee machine ran out of milk Don't think I'd be calling next time I'm in York To top it all we was told no eggs ,then has we was leaving the bar staff told another customer he could have a poached egg,I questioned the bar staff but she did not answer

We called in for Breakfast it was one of the worst we've ever had in a spoons. We normally use them while away coz I need my coffee fix after a night on the beer. But I wouldn't recommend this one food was cold and the Bacon looked like it had been boiled in water.

A nice ancient place, you can enjoy a traditional English breakfast. The service is fast, the food is good, the coffee is delicious

Traveling from Canada and have never experienced a pub that does not give human service. Have to get app and order food online. App freezes on phone. Food ok

claim to be accessible but the only entrance that a wheelchair can get into is through a creepy small tunnel, the door is tiny and requires a tight turn, impossible to navigate through as too many tables

Food was yummy yummy in my tummy but they were all out of fruit! Top tip btdubs, if you sit in the conservatory area it's nice and quiet AND you're right by the coffee machine. 😎 EPIC!

Disappointing fish and chips, though mushy peas OK. Mix up over table number and app. Place feels a bit cramped for amount of customers.

As with most Wetherspoons you know what your getting at a terrific price and the popularity of the chain always makes for a great atmosphere

This is the worst weatherspoons we have been in. Went to order lunch at 12 noon before catching our train. Used the app and most were unavailable. No chili, no jacket potatoes, no ham egg and chips. No fish. No ham pizza. Terrible. Ended up with a tasteless cheese pizza. Place was grubby

Typical spoons, Monday club price £2:99 a pint of Guinness,you can't beat that I paid £6:50 in other nearby pubs. Nice friendly atmosphere,staff very helpful and friendly.

Super place and very handy if your staying in the premier inn, The breakfast here is superb and definitely on to try., Busy in the evenings but that's a sign of a good pub, Definitely recommend visiting for food or drinks

What a fantastic pub!!! We called in for ONE.. and ended up staying all night!! Met some friendly people from Scarborough and had a blast!!! Such a great atmosphere, especially on a cold winters night after they CANCELLED THE CHRISTMAS MARKET !! Had more fun in this pub anyhow!! Lol ❤️

We came for two visits over the last couple of days. The evening was a lovely atmosphere and quite relaxed, with food being served at a good pace and the breakfast was lovely also. Would recommend.

Was okay, albeit pretty busy as our steam train excursion arrived slap bang during the busy lunch hour period! Not the fault of the pub, of course. The food was okay, but not up to normal Wetherspoon standards, probably due to the pub being pretty busy. I would definitely go back again preferably when it's less busy!

We've had several tasty meals here while on our short break. The staff have been lovely. However, they seem to have a problem with keeping on top of their stock, so they run out of things. Tonight it was peas. Last night we wanted salad, but couldn't order what we wanted as they had run out, but later they came to say they had run out of what we had finally ordered, but had some of what we originally ordered but had run out of. It got so complicated that we weren't sure what we were going to finally end up with. The food that arrived was delicious though. Can't have been bad as we went back again 🤣

Standard Weatherspoons and what you would expect

I think ordering beans on toast with 2 poached eggs is better than ordering 2 poached eggs with a side of beans, what do you think,which ever you go for get it here its a nice little weatherspoons conveniently located between our hotel and the city centre

Very impressed by speedy service even when busy. The food was great for the price and the staff were smiley and fun despite how busy they were.

For what you get for the price you cannot complain. Food, drink is what the price reflects and the staff are the best.

Can always rely on Wetherspoons, they serve Kopparberg on tap which I love.
