A good back street pub, with some very good real ciders, including the excellent Dudda's Tun Bone Dry. No food except Sunday dinners. Used to be 5 stars from me, down to 4 now they force drinkers to listen to blaring muzac. Perhaps I should take to bringing earplugs

Me and some friends came here at about 10:00, they greeted us very unfriendly. It was a friends birthday so it didn’t knock the mood. My friend then accidentally dropped a drink on himself, a member of staff then came over and swore at us 5 seconds later. We then confronted him for being rude, and then getting threatened to have your jaw broke. We then left and he was carrying a baseball bat down the street. As a life long resident of York I can’t believe Regis happened

Great little pub away from the tourist trap spots (e.g. the extremely arrogant Three Tuns in the tourist haven proper centre). Would highly recommend. Has a dart board for display purposes, not allowed to use it. Over priced beer for its location (no foot traffic, down a back alley) and dodgy electrics sprung all around the seating area. Not just one of the best pubs in York but one of the best in the whole country. Been several times over the years. Booth and Madge making a first appearance...I think. Set off the main street just out of sight due to the street bending. Long pub with a rear courtyard where we once sat in a freezing winter as the inside was rammed. Had their house 3.8% bitter brewed by Half Moon. Very good. One of six hand pumped real ales. They have bar billiards as well. I love the game; far better than pool and takes up little room. Also a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular. Lovely interior. Even have pub dogs!

Best Sunday Roast in York hands down. I booked a table for 11 and they brought out all of our courses out together which is a feat in itself. The roast was amazing. I had lamb and it was the best cooked lamb I've eaten in ages. Family who head beef and pork said the same. Starters had real wow factor especially considering the reasonable prices. The pub itself I have visited many times and is a hidden gem close to town but tucked in a side street. The decor is just classic old world York put and the warm welcome is classically traditional. Beer kept expertly and always a good pint.

I was very puzzled by the food I was served this past weekend. When told that the prawns starter was not available, I opted for the hoisin mushroom skewer. This was explained as 'just mushrooms on a stick' by the waitress. We explained we were in a bit of a rush. So we were going to have just 1 course. It took 45 minutes to arrive. And it was not mushrooms. It took me a while to work out what it was, but I decided it was shredded duck, shaped in lumps, put on a skewer and drizzled with hoisin sauce. Once I got the idea of what I was eating, it was actually quite nice. Wouldn't have been though for a vegetarian thinking they'd ordered mushrooms 😉 and the skin on chips and the skewers were like warm, rather than hot. Disappointing. I'd post a photo, but can't see an option to do this.

I love local and I have never been here, but the group I was recommended it,so we booked for a table yesterday (16th Nov) for 5.00pm on the same day and received an email confirmation,so I was gob smacked when I was told that the table we booked was not on the system till 2 days later,so was told to just go and try and find a table, there was 6 of us and no tables at all so we left, what is the point of placing a booking if the booking does not show up on the system till 2 days later?! This so bizzare and absolutely stupid! Not a great first impression to be honest
