Small but reasonable choice of handpull beers, good selection of TVs for watching sport.

I am so glad we stopped off at this little gem. The atmosphere was laid back, the drink options a good variety and very reasonable. Me and my mum had an insightful conversation with the owner regarding the history of the pub. Hopefully, one day, when we visit York again, we'll definitely stop off for a drink.

A very special local place great staff no food but excellent beer

We were in York for a military reunion, our first get together in 25 years. Unfortunately, a few bars wouldn’t allow us in. The Priory was excellent, staff were very friendly, service was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome. Great attitude, staff and atmosphere, highly recommend.

Went in and it had music playing in background was quite quiet. Perfect for a chat enjoyed it.

Good karaoke on bank Holiday sunday

Lovely pub with good beer for a good price for York and the staff is very friendly. :) It is just sad that there is no Sky Sports available anymore at the moment, which impacts on the atmosphere due to missing customers in there.

Proper pup for drinkers, never had food here

Been Many years since I last went here but last Friday was fantastic, karaoke 🎤, good beer 🍻 and fun times, it's not your fancy shmancy pub, it's just a good place, good people 💯

Great place! Friendly staff! Got chatting to regulars given great advice. Andy the landlord was great. As was Alec, big American football fan knew more about the sport than me and of course Dominique who is sweet kind and gracious. Great prices and a nice respite from the tourist areas.

Great place’ friendliest bar staff in York. Make you feel welcome the minute you walk in. Willing to give great recommendations and advice. Great music ads well. This is definitely my new favorite pub! Great bunch of regulars who make you feel welcome as well.

Just back from a 2 day stay from York and went in here on both days at different times. Lovely spacious bar with friendly staff and customers. Wouldn't hesitate to go back

Nice friendly pub unfortunately it has stopped serving food because of the council building staff working from home so not sort doing food.The music and drinks were good and reasonably priced.

It had football on everywhere. Landlord was working hard to make it on a Wednesday. Felt safe though.

Really nice pub. Great if you're looking to get to somewhere down to earth. Zero pretentiousness here and is usually open later than other York pubs.

I bought a drink and it was served in a plastic beaker, however the amazing bar man saw I was insulted by this and changed this to a clear beaker/glass looking glass/ Adam you are a credit to this place! So classy and a touch of elegance behind the bar 🤩

Avoid. Worst pub on Micklegate! Sticky seats, over priced lager, terrible music that's far too loud for a Monday evening with NO customers! TV's EVERYWHERE that are more static than picture, buy an aerial FFS!

I have made a complaint to head office. I await their response. Serious legal issue with pub manager, as for me just a visitor. Will be patient with head office reply until I update post. Can't add no stars as it won't allow me too, so reluctantly putting one star.

I've visited here generally at the end of a night out and whilst I'm not one to talk, it's generally full of a rough atmosphere. Pints can be hit & miss too. Easier to just keep walking onto Spoons. Soz!

My twin brother Stephen and I were pub hopping down Mickelgate when we decided to drop into The Priory Pub,a pub we always look forward to visiting on any trip to York we take. I love the look of this pub ,it's got a big single room dominated by a cool looking serving bar,pubby decor and furnishings,tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub all housed in a great looking building,a proper chill out pub. We were here on a Wednesday night,we had a study of their real ale's and we both opted to have Rudgate Brewery Jorvik ale,these were served in pristine condition,we kicked back and took in the great pub we were in. My ale was really good,a crisp,well balanced ale,hints of toffee,a great aroma and aftertaste ,very refreshing,a classic British ale served in a classic British pub. We both really enjoyed our ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every previous visit to The Priory Pub we had a great time. The Priory Pub is easy to locate along Micklegate,a street with lots of great pubs along. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Priory is a traditional local York pub on Micklegate that offer a decent selection of beers and spirits and is in a superb area of York were there are many pubs. Housed in a period building'this pub has a traditional pub interior with plenty of good seating area's.There are many interesting fixtures and features throughout the whole pubs interior and a nice beergarden. We went all the pubs and bar's around this area of York and this pub was a nice place to visit on a pub crawl.It wasn't really busy when we visited but it was very early in the evening.As we where only staying for one beer we had a Rudgate brewery Jorvik ale each which were superb and well priced. This is a brilliant pub and well worth visiting and very easy to locate from Queen street bus stop its a minute's walk.(This is my first review of the Priory). Opening Hours. Fantastic night here! Lindsey was lovely,very funny knows something about everything sport/area/drinks/food! The pub is well stocked great choice and reasonably priced. Would thoroughly recommend a visit!

We arrived in York and were on our way to the markets. The pub was r too busy so we called for a drink and a snack . The girl who seemed to be on her own was very efficient, friendly and professional. The toasties were tasty and well priced

On entering the priory we were greeted by Lindsay. Very friendly young women. We queued for drinks and were served quickly. Drinks were very cool. It was karaoke night. My friend enjoyed the whole atmosphere. Dancing and singing. Locals interacted with us. Lindsay does a fantastic job not just doing her job as manager she makes sure people are ok. We returned on saturday night. Lindsay reckonized us straight away and came for a chat. Well done Lindsay keep up the good work as well as the other staff.

Thanks to Sky television mucking around with the football fixtures, I was unable to get to watch the Arsenal match from my seat at the Emirates. I was however delighted to find a Gooner pub in York where a hard core group of Arsenal fans were there to cheer on the team. The Beer was good, the wine was good and the whole evening would have been perfect (no fault of the staff) had Arsenal won.

Large group of us visited the Priory on our recent trip. Oh my god need to check in to the actual Priory after this visit. Lyndsay and Amy a credit to this pub. So accomodating and nothing was any trouble. Well worth a visit.

Popped in for a couple of drinks before dining over the road. Exceptionally friendly landlord, whole place is spotless and they definitely take COVID protocols seriously. Would 100% visit when back in York.

This was a lovely pub managaer spot on and hands the lovely barmaid Amy was very attentive never let our drinks run dry very friendly and welcoming would definitely come back again when in York

We visited here on both nights of our weekend stay in York. The service we received from all staff was just amazing, and manager Lynsey (Lindsey?) made us feel very, very welcomed. We'll be back at some point in the future for the food no doubt. Thanks again.

Un chico en la puerta me "saludó" con una mirada de arriba abajo, con un tono de voz grosero, e inmediatamente me preguntó si éramos la misma casa (5 de nosotros: mamá, papá, hermano acabamos de irnos de la universidad y yo y mi pareja, que están de regreso casa mientras nuestra casa está terminada de construir), los lugares estaban al 50% de su capacidad, volteé y miré a un colega y me dijo “no lo siento, solo hago tablas de 4”. Mientras tanto, había muchas mesas de 6 hombres, 6 niñas, etc., que claramente no eran del mismo hogar. Los señalamos y nos reímos "son dos tablas de 3" con una sonrisa. Claramente un lugar único para los lugareños. Lo habría entendido si hubiera dicho "lo siento chicos, no podemos complacerlos", ya que hay una forma de manejar las cosas y el nivel de servicio al cliente que aún debería mantenerse incluso durante estos tiempos de prueba. El personal es muy grosero y, como los locales de York, evitarán a toda costa y les dirán a sus amigos y familiares que también lo hagan. Hay muchos lugares mejores alrededor.

Tomamos unas copas en el priorato durante el fin de semana y realmente disfruté de la experiencia. . El priorato es muy compatible con Covid y se siente muy seguro. Me gustaría elogiar especialmente al gerente Lindsey, quien cuidó muy bien el uso, fue muy divertido y muy profesional.

Visited previously from Sheffield, took the parents and daughter to sample the awesomeness of the lovely Lynsey and Amy. Lynsey is an absolute treasure, she makes everyone welcome, a sure asset to the pub.

Llamamos aquí un viernes por la noche para tomar algo, el lugar estaba bastante lleno. los precios de las bebidas eran buenos, había un ciervo aquí, eran ruidosos pero amigables. El personal fue muy amable. Terminamos aquí el sábado por la noche y la mayoría de los lugares estaban llenos, pero este pub no lo era tanto. Las bebidas estaban bien.

Found this place on Friday night and loved it , a proper pub in a busy area of York Beers and prices were spot on and the staff were great also Special mention to the tall girl with dark hair behind the bar , made us feel very welcome , There was I issue with a drunk male on the sat night and she handled it perfectly ,I’d worked the doors for 5 years and I’d certainly employ her if I had a pub , confident and firmAll credit to her and the pub we will def return

Priory is a pub I've been to on previous visits to York,a pub that always offers a warm welcome and serves good beers.I like the look of the pub,a light and airy interior, great decor and furnishings including a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, all housed in a really good looking and eye catching building. My twin brother Stephen and I were pub and bar hopping around Micklegate and dropped into the pub on a dank,rainy Thursday night, greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff who served us a beer each,we opted to have a lager each, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back,chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My lager was really good, I am more a real ale and craft beer fan but the lager served here was good,very refreshing indeed. We both really enjoyed our beers in here and although we only stayed for the one beer each before we moved on as on every other visit to here we had a great time. Priory is easy to locate along Micklegate, it's in an area teeming with pubs,bars and restaurants and some amazing architecture particularly the famous Roman Walls and Micklegate Bar. A great pub,one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

Called here for a couple of drinks whilst visiting York a couple of weeks ago. This is a traditional bar that also serves food. Drinks are reasonably priced but didn’t have food so can’t comment on that.However, 5 stars must go to the lovely lassie behind the bar with long, dark, bobbed hair. Think she said she was from Malton (or maybe it was Thirsk?). Warmly, smiley and welcoming, she was exactly how bar staff should be and was the same towards everyone, young and old. People make a bar and she’s a credit to this one.

My family stopped here for a quick drink and we decided to come back in the evening to try the food. We were actually surprised as the food was good and just right amount. I would recommend this place.

The people in the beer garden were abusive and neolithic, I felt threatened and belittled and won't return

Called in for drinks on the way to the city centre, large group of 12 us and we got served no problem. Decent drinks at a reasonable price, the place has a good atmosphere and we will return next time we visit York.

Almost no one in the pub at 13:00 on a Tuesday. Bangers were weird tasting. Mash was thick and gluey. Hamburger was not quite right.

Food a huge letdown. Cajun chicken very dry, chicken wings very over cooked, gammon was ok, peas hard. An ok place to drink but not to eat

One of our last stops before the train, was very busy with most tables taken, we sat next to the pool table which was a bit of the way, service was swift enough but not the nicest of pubs in the area, bit rough & ready.

My wife and I regularly visit this establishment when visiting York and find it friendly, with a good selection drinks and a good menue. We have certainly had no problem with the service or standard of food

Hace poco visité York y llamé a este pub para almorzar con mi hija y mi hijo, el barman era encantador y servicial, y la comida era deliciosa y un buen precio. Si viviera en York, este sería mi pub favorito. Si vuelvo a visitar York definitivamente iré allí otra vez.

Esto parece ser algo parecido a un pub local y un poco fresco para los extraños, ya que estábamos como viajeros de negocios que buscaban un par de cervezas y buena comida. Las opciones de comida eran interesantes, muy tradicionales de muchas maneras, con pasteles y parrilladas variadas, etc. Tenía una pechuga de pollo Cajun que venía con papas fritas y guisantes caseras y en 6 o así no se puede quejar, pero podría haber sido mejor. La cerveza era de buena calidad y de precio barato, así que en general no es un mal lugar. ¡No estoy seguro de que lo frecuentaría demasiado a menudo!

Really hostile group of locals. We were not able to join in with karaoke night despite it being publicly advertised. Bar staff were friendly though.

Karaoke night was very much for a few locals. The atmosphere was hostile to people they didn't recognise and we were not allowed to join in. Bar itself and other staff were fine.

This pub and restaurant captures what is the north aesthetically and even culinary. They make you welcome the northern way. Ate by the fire and the ambience can’t be recreated elsewhere. A true gem.

Called in here to watch a World Cup Game in a recent visit! Everything was good and seemed a nice local pub!

Went into the priory expecting a hospitable place for a cold beverage I was met with cold apathy from the bar staff. The priory lacks atmosphere and would not recommend to go with family or friends.

Close to the railway station and the city centre ,great food good pint ,what elsa do you need.We were looking for a good grill and this place offered a mixed grill that sounded right up my street,and they delivered too. Everything was cooked perfect and they had English Mustard that was hot,not all that sweet stuff most places have,perfect. Not over stuffed but pleasantly filled.Keep up the good work ,I will be back.

Have been here a couple of times. Its a nice classic pub with a lovely beer garden. Cheap and nice selection of beers and always a funny night at Fridays and Saturdays.

Got a long island Iced tea for under £4 and it tasted as good as anything you'd get in a cocktail bar. £2.90 for a vodka redbull as well, can't go wrong.

Stopped off for some lunch here. Proper hime cooked food. I have the liver and onions with mash. It was just what the doctor ordered in the cold weather. Service was great and the waiter for really happy and friendly.

Stopped here on the way back to the train station for a few drinks before we headed back to Newcastle. Served by a lovely lass called Rachel. It was her first day and she was absolutely amazing. Ordered 6 drinks, came back half an hour...
