Food was dreadful. The seabass was far too big for one person. The rocksalt that it was baked in, was obviously short of egg whites as it hadn’t sealed the fish and consequently the fish was over done. The fish came with half a roasted lemon. We paid £7 for a very small dish of chips, that were chopped up potatoes barely fried. The dish of leeks were dark brown, well over cooked and unappetizing to say the least. We declined dessert and coffee. As a tourist I spoke to the interim manager, who listened and was disappointed with our experience at the restaurant which has been recommended to us.

Both my wife and I had the most brilliant night with you. Room 21. We enjoyed the cocktails, and very much love the Spanish theme running throughout the hotel. Selections of wines are very good, and enjoyable. Food was absolutely amazing and no complaints at all, including our main evening and breakfast meals. Every member of staff we had the pleasure of meeting were helpful, polite and very welcoming. Especially the young lady that took our food reservation in the afternoon. We will defiantly be retuning and will certainly have pleasure in telling people what an absolute gem of a hotel you are!

Haven’t been to The Priory since before Covid. So pleased to see it hasn’t changed. The simplistic choice of fish or steak beautifully cooked with the added choice of tapas. It has been revamped and has a really lovely intimate feel. Only odd thing was the choice of music bit too much bass. Something softer would have added so much more to the ambience. The only other gripe is that The Priory is not close enough to us to make it a more regular event. Would be ecstatic to have this as my local restaurant, Shout out to all the staff they were attentive and polite. Will look forward to my next visit.

Neurodivergent Friendly ✅ Fast becoming my absolute favourite restaurant, if I could come here daily I would. The new bar area is brilliant and is ideal to grab a drink before you go into the restaurant. I have the same thing every-time (Sea Bass 😉) to the point that the staff, who are all so friendly and welcoming, now know what I get just from seeing me (ha). The rooms upstairs are homely and convenient and I love the bodega all and it’s quirky little items for sale. The location itself is like a little secret garden and it has a meadow like feel…perfect for summer and the building is beautiful. There’s a couple of restaurants similar to this in Cardiff but this one is the best value for money, keep doing what you’re doing Priory 🫶🏻

We had a large group of people for a celebration, the restaurant manager was absolutely amazing! Nothing was too much trouble, her response time was second to none. On the day staff were accommodating, polite and helpful. The food was beautiful, only slight downside was the portion size is on the small side for starters but tasted beautiful. Can't recommend it enough. Spot on service and super clean

Dreadful. I was disappointed when i went in May with my Dad, there were 4 of us. The steaks we ordered were mediocre at best, service was slovenly and the bill was over £200 with barely any drinks and maybe two puddings. We returned reluctantly for a friend’s birthday recently and the entire table was disappointed with their food. My scallops to start were just sad. 3 scallops drowning in what tasted like only melted butter, served in a deep dish so they lost any plumpness, and were soggy. And sole as a main was not awful, but not worth the cost, just plain and tasteless. We were charged £5 for each bread, which was just brought to the table without asking. It was just poor. We had to ask constantly for drinks, the service was not seamless, just frustrating as you had to constantly keep an eye out to grab a staff member. It’s a shame as The Priory used to be one of the best places around, and there is only so long you can rely on a pretty location to keep people coming back.

I haven’t been back to the priory for a bit of time, however my husband and I fancied trying it again today and I am so glad we did. We both ate from the 2 course Sunday lunch menu and both the starter and mains were delicious! The beef dinner really was very tasty. Service was also really good throughout from the bar staff, to our waitress and front of house. We will definitely be returning back to the priory more regularly now.

I have been a regular here for many years and it’s undoubtedly changed and a shadow of its former self! We ate here a few weeks ago and it was poor, however, we returned this evening and the food was very good, but the service still bad! We arrived at 5 (Saturday) on the off chance they’d have a table for an hour or so (we had our 4yo with us) and was told “sorry, we are fully booked”, but the restaurant was empty! I explained we only want a main meal and perhaps a dessert so give us a 7/7:30 table. They almost reluctantly agreed (where’s the business acumen). We sat down and no one took drinks order so had to walk around to find someone. The bread we ordered as an appetiser arrived minutes before our food. I asked for English mustard with my steak and was assured it was exactly that, when it was evidently French. I had to ask the manager who indeed got me some excellent mustard. But, as I’ve said, the food was very nice so will continue to eat here!

Our room (number 2) was large, but strangely had very little space on which to place items such as a laptop, bag, books etc. The bedside cupboards were very small, the surface being taken over by the phone, lamp and radio etc, leaving very little room for water glass etc over night. One corner of the room was taken over by a bath. I realise there is something of a fashion for this in hotels at the moment, but feel it would have been far more useful if there had been a table and a couple of chairs there to use when sending or receiving emails or checking information on the Internet. However, the wifi signal turned out to be dreadful, moving at glacial speed and eventually giving up. Luckily I did not have any urgent matters to deal with. Tea and coffee in the room is always appreciated, however the arrangements in room 2 were not good. The big modern coffee maker was unnecessary; the money spent on that would have been far better used to provide a teapot (I dislike making tea with a tea bag in a cup) and maybe a small fridge in which to keep fresh milk (or even a small thermos flask full of fresh milk, which I have experienced in other hotels). UHT milk in sachets is vile, and there is really no excuse for using it these days. Also the small cups were pretty useless. Decent sized mugs would have been preferable. The piece of paper we were given at check in stated that the pedestrian access through the side door on the street would be locked after 11.00 pm. In fact it was locked when we tried to access it at 10.30pm, meaning that we had to walk around the corner to the entrance through the car park. I’m afraid we also had a less than perfect experience at breakfast time. The young girl who served us was delightful, but that’s where the delight ended! The table which contained the continental breakfast was most unattractive - the only fresh fruit being a couple of oranges and apples and some very tired looking bananas. The pastries were very good, but the coffee and the fruit juice were not. The fruit juice was not fresh and the coffee was undrinkable, bitter stewed stuff contained in a thermos jug. The table on which all this was displayed was swimming with liquid (either coffee or juice I think). I ordered one poached egg on toast but was actually served with two. I might have been tempted to eat the second had the first been good - unfortunately it was not. I don’t know what procedure you use to cook your eggs, but this one had obviously been cooked some time before, held in suspended animation in some way and then warmed up just before service (though not very efficiently as it was lukewarm). The white was of a jelly like consistency and undercooked, while the yolk was overcooked. A most unpleasant experience I’m afraid (needless to say I did not eat the second egg). I am sorry to be so negative, I’d far rather be giving you a review full of thanks and praise for a lovely, comfortable stay, but I’m afraid I can’t. Bed and breakfast for the night cost us £225 (including the early check in fee) which is a great deal of money and I feel very short changed. But finally I have to take issue most strongly with your car parking set up. Luckily we had been warned by friends about the new NCP arrangements and the necessity to enter one’s car registration on an iPad in the hotel building within 10 minutes of arrival. We saw no warning signs in the car park itself and I see from reading Trip Advisor reviews since we returned home, that a lot of people have been caught out and charged a fine (sometimes as much as £100) if they failed to follow the requirements. This has resulted in some very angry reviews and I’m not at all surprised. And local people whom we met during our visit to the town were all scathing and furious about the new set up. I don’t know who has the advantage of the hundreds of pounds of fines which have obviously resulted from this new arrangement; whether it’s you or NCP, but it seems to be a ridiculous situation. The damage to the hotel’s reputation must be huge and very destructive. How terrible to wantonly bring about such loss of reputation. I trust you will give some thought to amending the arrangements.

My recent dining experience at The Priory Restaurant was underwhelming and disappointing. We faced several issues that made the evening less enjoyable. Firstly, the staff forgot our drinks order, which set a poor tone for the evening. When the steak arrived, it was exceedingly rare despite having ordered it medium rare. After requesting it to be cooked a little longer, it came back burnt on the outside but still blood red inside – a sign of poor kitchen skills. Also the peppercorn sauce came out late, very small portion and cold. Additionally, they forgot the chips, a basic part of the meal (which incidentaly was charged for separately - who just orders a steak on its own?). While the service was functional, it was slightly nervy and not particularly apologetic about the mistakes. The food itself was okay but definitely not worth the hefty £300 bill for three people. It is also worth noting that the staff were overly keen to clear the table, even when we had not finished some of our food. This was strange as it was mid week and the restaurant clearly did not need the table for other reservations, there were plenty of empty tables. Moreover, I was dismayed to see a discretionary tip already added to the bill, especially considering the subpar experience. It would be more appropriate for the restaurant to pay their staff properly rather than relying on discretionary tips. The Priory Restaurant used to be our go-to, but now it will be our no-go, which is a real shame. Overall, The Priory Restaurant did not live up to expectations, and I would hesitate to recommend it.

I went out for a meal with my partner for a 6th year anniversary and whilst the food was good they rejected a voucher which was bought of the priory website before Christmas but the person who bought it for me was advised it would be usable as they are a sister company with Bodega and has the priory address on the actual voucher. Apparently there was no way of redeeming the voucher (despite it being the sister company, and the person who purchased it being told it would be usable there.) had they known it was not usable in the priory they wouldn’t have bought it as I live local to the restaurant and it’s always been one of my favourites but this has left a sour taste.

Came here for lunch with friends, and the food was superb. It was an hour late as they forgot our order, but staff were incredibly apologetic and offered us free drinks which was very kind. A major downside that I must mention though, was the parking. A few weeks after our visit, we received a £100 parking ticket from NPC (a private company employed by the Priory to enforce fines in their car park). Apparently, an "e-permit" is required to use the Priory car park on the, however during our visit this was not at any point signalled to us by signage or staff. Despite their efforts, the Priory seemed unable to do anything to stop the fine for being enforced as NPC kept pursuing us for the fine, even following an initial appeal. I was then forced into a situation to later return to the car park to gather photographic evidence of the limited/confusing signage in order to submit my appeal to an Adjudicator who thankfully found in my favour due to the evidence I collected. The experience of coming for a lovely lunch was tarnished by the subsequent stressful and time-consuming nature of appealing this ridiculous fine. As I say, The Priory don't appear to hold any authority or sway to revoke such parking tickets on their own land, once issued, and so I implore anyone reading this to please make sure you check with staff how to park without getting a ticket, should you visit.

Recent booking in May with wife and our 6month old baby. Contacted the hotel prior to request a travel cot, which they provided unfortunately it was only suitable for a >1year old. No spare rooms and the 'cosy room' was a very tight squeeze for all of us on a double bed. Staff that evening couldn't and the staff's attitude the following day was even less sympathetic. Cut short the trip and followed up with an emails to management. Unfortunately no reply. I wish to highlight this issue for any young families planning on stay, it is not an infant friendly hotel. Hotel itself was nice, but cannot report I received good customer service.

We live in the area and have been coming here for years (including our wedding reception 5 years ago which was fab) but unfortunately our experience on Saturday 10th Feb was not great. We both ordered steaks - my partner ordered medium but what arrived was VERY rare and put him right off. Carrots pretty undercooked. We did tell the waiter at the end and got a sort of 'oh' response. The table next to us sent their steak back as it was also undercooked. Chocolate ganache dessert underwhelming: a bit of a splodge on the plate that looked like ice cream, partner not impressed with the taste either. Sad let down after many years of amazing food, especially during lockdown with the outdoors food truck that they had.

This was a nice hotel but in my opinion the changes they have made to the layout and problems we encountered have turned my opinion. On our visit they were having major technical problems with the phone/Internet which caused us issues along side other problems in our room ( coffee machine, extractor fan not working)which was not acceptable and was reported. But for me the layout change to the bar area has detracted from the character of the building and doesn't work. This hotel has character derived from its architecture, history, and charming backyard. We found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Our room, albeit small, was well appointed and cozy. The weather was cool and mild, a bit damp, during our visit. A portable fan was useful for our comfort during our overnight sleep. A staff member was able to promptly fulfill our request for an iron and ironing board. Breakfast each morning was included in our rate, and I especially loved their version of French Toast. We dined two evenings at the restaurant within the hotel on gourmet fare, served with panache. We observed that locals frequented the restaurant to celebrate special occasions. We were able to walk to destinations within the village. Historic sites worthy of tourism are located close by. All this made for a sense of community, of home away from home. So disappointing..in hard times for the Hospitality Industry it's hard to give negative comments but I hope this improves things here. Booked to stay at the hotel and used the hotel restaurant to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary. When booking I asked could we have an early check in as our meal was quite early in the evening. We never received any reply, even after sending a second email. We were met by Louis.. very helpful and pleasant he checked if the room was ready but no..so we went for a walk. Eventually had our room at the regular check in time. Beautiful room. Very clean and well presented. Louis was so helpful. When he could see me checking for glasses and had explained that family had given us a bottle of Champers.. No problem he was back within minutes with 2 flutes. We went down for our meal for 7.30pm. On the restaurant booking we had explained about the anniversary and asked for a quiet table. And this is where the whole weekend bubble burst. The restaurant was very busy and we were sat right on corner of the main route through to the kitchen. After having the corner of the table bumped by staff twice I moved and sat next to my partner. We ordered a bottle of wine and went to select and order our food. When we returned to our table we were greeted with our 2 glasses having wine in them. So no choice there then. Our starters arrived amongst a crash of plates.. which wouldn't be the first time it would happen. Everything seemed so loud and rushed. The staff standing behind us all talking. The Calamari was awful, wet and fatty with no colour on the batter and just like rubber. My Scotch Egg was OK..if not a little too brown. My partner left the majority of his Calamari. And when the waiter came to collect the plates there was no question as to whether things were OK. Mains came and mine, Risotto was inedible! You could actually stand a fork up in it. It was cold and solid. My partners steak was good but the sauce was like water..feeling totally deflated and upset I left the restaurant and my husband to sort the bill. All this amongst all the noise and rush. You know when you see a Swan gliding on the water looking so serene but underneath they are paddling like mad..the art being no one sees the hard work - Well, we saw all the hard work! When my husband called for the bill, the waitress asked was everything OK so my husband explained. she actaully tried to pick some of the Risotto up and said she was taking it into the kitchen to show the chef. She returned to say that we wouldn't be charged for it...but she had done her job. What that meant we don't know. Next morning we arrived at breakfast at 09.20am hoping for better. A gentleman asked us could we wait a few minutes..I found this strange as there were only 2 couples in the dining area..he swept passed then saying they were wiping our table down and wouldn't be long. We were called in at 09.30am and told by the waitress to sit down and look at the menu...no cutlery or napkins had been laid. She said it would be a few minutes for our cups and saucers to arrive as they were still in the machine and it hadn't finished?! We sat there until 09.45 waiting. The couple next to us had experienced the same and we did make light that it was like Faulty Towers. How could you not cope serving 3 couples? Our table was laid and we were given one tea and one coffee, when we'd ordered 2 Teas. you know when you think I need to bring this up ...but know there would be no point. Our food ordered and delivered was, like the night before, totally inedible. The coffee I'd accepted was stone cold and old. The poached eggs I managed to scrape off the center of what was 2 burnt pieces of Sourdough bread. My husband had asked for some egg, bacon and hash browns. The bacon was so salty he couldn't eat it and the Hash Browns were the strangest things we'd ever seen. Everyone serving were no where to be seen. We got up and left. We did tell the member of staff on reception when we were checking out how bad our experience had been. The gentleman said we should email feedback but as my husband said: You didn't answer our emails previously and that we would just write the stay off. Just so disappointed that nothing seemed to gel with anyone. Staff, other than Louis, seemed all at sea. There didn't seem any leadership and staff just didn't have any direction. I would like to think this was one off incident..if it isn't then there needs to be some serious retraining done.

We ate here this evening to round off our 48th wedding anniversary. We have been customers for many years but have not eaten there for a year or so. My word the old place has changed its appearance. Gone is the relaxed, casual and atmospheric ambience. It has been replaced with what looks like something that was designer and accountant-led. I imagine the current owners have attempted to position the place a bit more upmarket than it was. In doing so they seem to have lost much of the character of the past. It now looks like a cheaper, shinier and soulless version of itself. There were fewer choices of meals than in the past. My wife had difficulty finding a main meal that she wanted to eat. She settled on tapas. My main course was a rib-eye steak, dotted with crispy bits of shallots with a pepper sauce. It was priced reasonably enough, as steak goes these days. It came with a small handful of rocket. I was rather saddened to see that the chips were going to cost an extra £4. However, it was a perfect rib-eye, cooked just as I had ordered and so, so tasty. My meal made up for the change in appearance and atmosphere. However, I’m not sure we’d hurry back there again.
