The Potters in Newport

Pre booked for a party of 11 people from 1pm to 2.30pm. Sent in pre order for food the day before so expecting to be served soon after arrival. By 1.40pm food still hadn’t arrived I asked a bar staff member how long we had to wait and she question if we had ordered, then followed by saying there was nothing on their system. When the 2nd bar staff member came over she also said nothing was in their system so I showed the email I had sent with the pre order on, to which I had also received a response confirming the order had been received. I questioned why nobody had come over to us to ask about our order to which the response was “staff do not come over you need to order at the bar.” Well how are we supposed to know that when we had pre ordered. Our order was taken and food was served quite promptly to be fair and all members of the party enjoyed. We were also given a free soft drink each however there should have been better communication as we had booked the table a month prior to the date.

Group of 6 of us went for Sunday lunch, it was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. We had a lovely few hours. Would highly recommend.

Breakfast lovely Nice relaxing atmosphere

Asked for a quiet area and a speaker right above table on the wall, music loud had a job to hear each other. My cousin asked for a jacket potato from the menu & as it was after 5pm ( 5.30pm booking) no jacket potatoes were being served.

Great adult pub, in all fairness but do not bring children, even in the day. They have children’s items on the menu but they didn’t like it when my kids got up and walked around, despite the pub being quiet, we were the only ones in the bottom area by the sofas. Although, suit wise, great but don’t bother advertising children menu items if you’re going get annoyed at their existence. My kids weren’t even being poorly behaved…

Booking was easy and kept up to date with our order. Very efficient. We arrived table was ready and food was served when we were ready food was great so overall a really good day. Thank you. X

Second time of visiting before a show, waited 45 mins for our meal which when it came was very disappointing - worst lasagne ever!

We were one hour late for our booking because our taxi from home didn’t arrive on time. The staff were understanding and kept kitchen open for us. We’ve been to The Potters a few times and have never been disappointed with our food.

My husband and I went to the potters for a valentine’s meal, food was delicious, fab service it was extremely busy, would highly recommend

Restaurant area was full so had to sit in bar area (at breakfast time) there was nobody to take our order so left waiting at bar for 10 minutes as staff seemed to be busy elsewhere.

And a great time band were excellent

Party of twelve for Sunday lunch, four having travelled by train from Cardiff, the remainder Newport/Gwent based. Booking efficient and helpful. Everyone happy with their drink, especially the beer drinkers! (excellent range). And equally happy with their food choice, plated main, all courses delicious and generously portioned. Excellent value. Some delay between starter and main course but no major issue. Good feel to venue encouraged convivial group atmosphere. Undeniably our overall favourite among several others venues, given its accessibility.

A great place to eat and meet friends, a busy place, always recommend booking a table on weekends. Waiting staff are exceedingly busy, but they always come up trumps for service.

Had meal for our anniversary service was good, quality of food was quite disappointing. Chips tasted like they had been reheated several times, pie was all crust little filling and signature burger was quite plain. Not what we normally experience from the Potters.

Ate here Thursday, potters chicken was if possible even better than ever Service great as usual. Waitresses never fail,they are all so lovely.

Bit polished but good lunch food and lots of cheeky beers on tap. Staff was fun and welcomimg.

Waited an hour for a latte that never arrived ☕️🚫, got a cheesy panini after asking for no cheese 🧀❌, and an old man yelled about the toilets for the grand finale 🚽🗣️. 10/10 if you’re into experimental dining experience.

Only had a few drinks so can’t comment on the food but what a lovely place rooftop terrace is really big with a rooftop bar I had a really good night !

Regulars for Sunday Lunch - how have I not posted yet. It’s just gets better and better each time - today the beef didn’t need cutting, just fell apart. Great choice of desserts and staff always attentive. I would much rather pay the potters for Sunday lunch than cook our own.

I met with three friends on 3 Jan, having booked a table at lunchtime (booking recommended). I ordered the Potters Chicken, friends had curry and beef and ale pie. The portion sizes were brilliant, and it all tasted beautiful. Good selection of drinks too with friendly table service for food (pay at bar afterwards). Forget the chain pubs - hit the Potters. Highly recommended

Visited couple of days ago, requested a table for 4 on website day before. Booking only confirmed next day after a second email and leaving a voice message! I ordered the beer battered fish & chips. Plenty of batter.... hardly any fish!!! It was just the the tail end of the fish and very dry, mostly skin! Was very disappointed, I did complain at the time, should have asked for my money back really 'cos didn't even eat most of the Batter!#

Tried a sunday lunch - excellent service, value and quality of food... (...and they were happy to plate up a "takeaway for oe of our family who couldn't make the dinner!) Their breakfasts and evening meals are already highly reccommended here - must add the Sunday lunch to that too now...!!! 10/10 & 5*

Norwegian Amber army was here for dinner, beer, drinks. Nice staff wide selection off beer. Nice roof garden live musik and dance. What more can you ask fore. There live through the weekend from opening until they close. 😊🇳🇴

The staff and overall the place was lovely. But the Sunday roast food was so overcooked and seemed very dated.

Was supposed to be dog friendly according to reviews. About as dog friendly as a pound of dark chocolate. At least they refunded our drinks, which saved them from a one star review. No signs on the door saying no dogs. Disappointed is an understatement. Now enjoying some decent beer in Le Pub which IS dog friendly.

Good food and good service, the positioning of the pub is ideal for shopping. The food was delivered quickly, and the ambiance was good.

We came in here today at 11:45am hoped to have a meal at lunchtime it's bad enough wandering around town these days as it hasn't got many pubs left that serve edible food we came in hopeful left feeling appalled and disappointed by the lack of customer service we received it was hardly busy people were finishing their breakfasts a hard faced crew staring us down as we were probably the first who wanted to order lunch at the bar It was late morning we struggled to find a free table everywhere we went in here tables were reserved but no timed were written on when they were actually to be used the only areas that weren't reserved were in a corner which we were exempt from sitting in for some reason The staff at the till were like zombies my dad had to ask them twice when could we order we weren't starving didn't mind waiting if they were rushed off their feet but they weren't the place was half empty began to fill up as large parties arrived and where we sat we felt trapped by noisy people who coughed like no tomorrow We had to wait nearly 25 mins just to place an order as it "wasnt classed as lunch menu yet" didn't have anywhere decent to sit as it became a squash and a squeeze When we spotted a small table for two tucked away round the side in a corner which was a quiet space free from smokers, loud people and with some room to breathe this old woman with spiky short blonde hair and earrings made us feel uncomfortable and awkward she was incredibly fussy and a jobsworth when we wanted to sit away from the door at the far end of the pub to get away from people who were coughing and dying over their meal we were on edge Got told to wait until 12 then given an even later time to order food we had to wait until 12:15 then 12:45 just to order food! We left at 12:25pm after being told rather rudely in an abrupt manner that we couldn't sit at that table "sorry you can't do that we don't use it" well why is it there then? If you don't use it then remove it! She was just being awkward for no reason and that's why we left I wasn't going to stay where we weren't accommodated for, I doubt our custom would've been appreciated as it was just the two of us seems like they want you to reserve a table just to sit down and have a bite to eat and as though they only want large parties of more than 4 people in this pub! The bar wasn't busy, staff weren't rushed off their feet we weren't hurting anyone just wanted to sit in a quiet space in the corner and have lunch but this woman we encountered couldn't even let us do that! Is it really that hard to let people have a clean quiet table away from everyone else?! Never heard the likes of it having to wait until a certain time to place an order for lunch after midday and then having to be confined to sit in the few scarce tables left with everyone else watching you eat as they cough and wheeze all over the damn place The inside on the bottom floor is so pokey I can imagine people have a job to move around when it gets full god forbid if someone like the elderly or a disabled person has mobility issues and can't get through with their wheelchair! We felt unwelcome and took our service and spent money elsewhere shame on you for not being prepared to deal with customers who didn't want your breakfast or tea/coffee and only wanted a quiet unused area! If you can't already tell from this review we wouldn't recommend and won't be returning I can see why other people have left low scores due to the ridiculous wait times and rude staff you have going on here I'm glad we left when we did I bet we would've had to wait until 3pm to eat lunch and then no doubt would've been hurried off the table for it to be reserved for a large party!

There’s not a huge amount of choice of decent pubs in central Newport , but, this one is spot on. Centrally located - round the corner from the bus station, plenty of room , extensive menu and great staff. I booked ahead as there were 9 of us and all arrangements were confirmed and follow up email to check all went well. Food was very reasonably priced and very acceptable - diverse menu to suit all tastes and short wait from order to table . Drink prices ok - about £22 for a bottle of wine - standard everywhere really except for Spoons. But, what makes the Potters stand out is the staff - friendly, helpful and efficient from start to finish . Oh , the toilets are well kept too ! We will be back ! Diolch yn fawr iawn !

First sunday roast as part of an engagement party ,service was brilliant, food was amazing really can't fault it ,well done to all staff

Great pub, restaurant and club.

Went in for breakfast. There were 3 of us. Ordered our food and drinks. Waited 40 minutes, still no food. Went and asked, gave our table number, and was told they were very busy and ours was next. Waited another 20 minutes watching people who had come in after us and had their food and went to ask again. Told again that we were next. We said we think we have been missed totally and that others had been served and given their food. Suddenly ours arrived. The food was very nice but we ended up rushing it as we had commitments. So, where we were hoping for a nice enjoyable breakfast was a rushed one.

This place is a legend for good food and music. Sunday lunch is not to be missed and gets busy. Nearest carpark is Friars Walk.

My wife and I had a meal booked for a works evening and we have a needy dog but the Potters don't allow dogs so we won't be able to go. In Cornwall most shops and eateries allow dogs, even clothes shops. What a pity Newport is not on the same page and has not realised what a vast customer base that they are missing out on.

Went on Friday for a meal at 5pm and a few beers after a very long week , it was fabulous. I requested a quiet table as I needed to talk over some things , which was duly delivered. The lady that served us was absolutely amazing and a credit to the Pub the food was also lovely. Will be back when I’m next in Newport !

Excellent service from the staff. Food was really good hot, plenty of it and really reasonable price. Would recommend a visit. I had the chilli, rice and chips which was really tasty.

They have a policy of 25 and older which is honestly obsurd. Really enjoyed going to there rooftop but was disappointed when I was turned away another evening.

The food was not good i had a ham salad and it was more lettuce the anything the staff were rude

Best value for money dinner that I’ve had for years. Ordered cheesy garlic ciabatta bread for £3.75 and fish and chips for £12. The ciabatta was a full length ciabatta slice which at every restaurant I’ve had for the last 5 years serve around 3-4 pathetic slices. The fish was longer than the plate and half of the width of it too. Chips were alright, typically frozen chips but not complaining. Comes with mushy peas which were fine and tartare sauce. Drinks were fairly priced and there was a local musician in the bar playing music throughout my dining experience. 100% recommend without a shadow of a doubt. Wish I could dig the pub up and drop it near where I live as I’m a 3hr drive away from it.

Went there for a get together with friends. No waiting to be served at the bar. Staff friendly food lovely and hot..

You will NOT get a better breakfast for the money anywhere else.. The service is fairly quick and the girls are always polite.. The plate is absolutely chock full and the extra large & large breakfasts are unbelievably good

Absolutely stunning breakfast, had the mega breakfast for £9.50 & it was mega 3 of everything with a coffee bargain. All food was freshly cooked, piping hot & tasted good quality 👌
