Ridgeway Bar & Kitchen in Newport

We went here for a wake, after a funeral. The food was good. The staff were lovely, apart from telling them there was no paper in the ladies, within 30mins of arrival, nobody put any in. So I was rather narked, to have to complain again a couple of hour's later.

It was a great place for a drink, the staff were very good and it is dog friendly 🐾

Absolutely awesome, take a trip there, even for lunch. 😋🍽

Great pub, great food - bonus points they allow dogs and provide gluten free options...including fish and chips, which is always tricky to find! I would also recommend the dirty fries.

Had a lovely meal with the family. We were welcomed by the lovely Ross, who was very friendly and welcoming. He attended to us throughout the afternoon, nothing was ever to much trouble for him, couldn’t have expected more. 😊

Ross was amazing very friendly and helpful gave full recomendations of what foods and gave alternatives for food that could be swapped. The homage goulash was amazing I would recommend anyone.

A Christmas meal thoroughly enjoyed with good food,service and atmosphere.

We booked a lunch table for two. They had no pinot grigiot house wine because they had not ordered enpugh, even though it was the run up to Christmas. No alternative other than paying an extra £10 odd. Only one waitress serving or taking orders and the constant excuse was "we are very busy". Yes it's Christmas!! We ordered some bread and olive oil to start and some 40 minutes later and a reminder we were still waiting. We ordered 2 starters which should take no time and again we were still waiting but the excuse remained "we are very busy". If this is how they manage a pub it leaves a great deal to be desired. No wine no food and no service. I live locally and have used the pub and restaurant all my life but I'll be passing on my views to all my friends who all live within walking distance. Absolutely disgraceful and no management to even complain to. He wasn't in. The poor waitress was very sorry and I really feel for her. We left with no food but new excuse " we are short staffed". This should have been explained at the outset not as a reason or excuse at the end. We weren't the only people who were waiting an age but the proverbial couldn't organise a ....... springs to mind. I just hope the management up their game and help the poor staff. I doubt they'll even read it. Be warned though.

Can't recommend this place enough. The food is frist rate and the prices are reasonable for the quality.

Xmas lunch with friends on a quiet Friday lunchtime. Our table of 7 plus 2x2 tables occupied. Interior very modern warm on entry. Pre-booked & shown to our table. 2 members of staff available, took our drinks & starter requests. Our Mains - 5 Confit Duck, Wholegrain mustard, Mash, Red Wine Jus were ordered along with 2 Pan fried Chicken Breast in a white wine & Mushroom Sauce, Crispy Kale & Shoestring fries. The duck was served to 5 & 2 portions of Shoestring Fries. Those with the fries had to wait 7/8 minutes before the Chicken was served - 1 portion, steaming from the heat & the other cold (sent back & replacement given (piping hot on arrival, Inc the plate it was served on) By this time 5 of our party had finished their food with 1 (Chicken) dish almost finished so that left the final guest eating on her own!!!

Had a lovely Christmas meal on 1st December. Mushroom starter was delicious. The beef was cooked perfectly, so tender and nice homemade Yorkshire pudding. Roasted parsnip and carrot's, plenty of gravy. The cheeseboard was the best one I have had in a long time. Very impressed, definitely recommend. Thank you The Ridgeway for getting Christmas off to a great start 🎄

Had a brilliant time here, on a Saturday night. 60s birthday surprise party. They cooked food and took well care of everyone! The food was brilliant. Positively surprised that they had closed off half of the place to allow for the party to be in the back, since it was a Saturday evening. Thank you to everyone who worked and made the evening even better!

I had been to the Ridgeway previously and loved it. The food this time was very disappointing - tasted like a microwave meal. The service was very slow and not very good. Only one member of staff seemed to know what she was doing. It wasn't very busy where we were, but we were a big party.

Food was great and good value as was the service. Top marks.

The restaurant was clean and a bit busy last Saturday AM (28/10). The service wasn't the best really, as the greeter kept us waiting at the entrance for some time before we were seated. The waitress did her best to cater to us though she was the only one available. We had the southern chicken waffle with bacon and maple syrup. The food was ok actually but the portion is not a big one so don't have that if you're hungry!

The ridgeway pub is a Nice little pub. It's a nice place to go weekends all in a week. A little on the expensive side but it is nice. Also need a really nice food.

Went here tonight 12/10 for my birthday for the first time , it was an amazing experience! The food was outstanding as well as the attentive waitress.

Good atmosphere, nice small bar and plenty of outdoor seating, some undercover.

Had an appalling lunch here. Service was surly and abrupt. Table and menus were dirty/sticky. Half of the things on the menu were off. When the food did arrive it wasn’t great. The restaurant is dark and uninviting, which is a shame as this place used to be much better. It’s as if someone’s given up.

Horrendous…..visited last Saturday evening. Major issues in the kitchen. Poor food and service. One person in the group didn’t eat all evening. Had to send two plates of food back. No gesture of goodwill offered.

Always impressed with this pub. A good selection of food well cooked that suits lots of different palates. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

Nice enough restaurant but menu not that inspiring. Would have liked few salad choices on it. Food that I had (burger)was nice but only had about a teaspoon of slaw to go with it in a silly metal mini saucepan. Might try it again in a few months time.

I would highly recommend the Ridgeway. Booked for a party of 17 for my husbands 60th Birthday and the food, service and atmosphere was second to none. Will definitely be going back.

A very nice bar lounge area. I just went there for a few drinks. The place is a lot different from when it was the old Ridgeway Inn. Nice friendly staff and locals.

Had my nieces birthday party here and was really well catered for with yummy buffet food. Service was great given that they had three large parties taking place at once.

Tonight I with my wife, daughter and 2 grandchildren ,14 and 16 year old, as my grandchildren live in Scotland so obvious don't see them very often so I thought that we would go and have a nice meal all together. Arrived at 7pm and after the server taking drinks order and food we then waited nearly 2 hours for it to arrive. I asked for a fork as used it for starters, the server forgot, my grandson got 1 from a near by table..my daughter asked for a drink, again the server forgot, it wasn't until she looked over ,nearly a hour later she suddenly remembered. I had what was called on the menu a ribeye steak it was like rubber and at no time did eich of the 2 server's come and ask how the meal was. I have just wasted £30 on a piece of meat that was like rubber, the only good part was the chunky chips and onion rings. The people, server's and 2 men behind the bar were more interested in cleaning down, never mind the guests. I would NOT go again as extremely disappointed and the bill !!!!! Very expensive for what we had

Very middle of the road breakfast. Everything on the plate was cold, stone cold beans and toast and the three plates all came separately with quite a delay in between, quite strange the place was empty except for one more table. That being said, a lovely looking restaurant, just poor food.

I had the best belly pork I've eaten in a very long time. The place was busy but not packed in tight. There was plenty of elbow room. The waiting team were consiencered, friendly, and very hard working. The selection of ales was limited to two, I think there should have been at least two more, but that is a small matter. Overall, very, very good

Used to be a really nice pub lunch. Went back today after about a year and the quality has dropped dramatically. The meat was completely overdone and ingredients were of very poor quality. Don’t think we’ll be going back any time soon 😔

Loved the decor and the food was fab.

Been here a few times for socialising but first Sunday lunch - was very tasty, lovely surroundings, staff very friendly. Beef and trimmings delicious. Parsnips bit hard but potatoes perfect. Very good cauliflower cheese. Peas and green beans probably frozen. But overall pleasant experience.

Had a meal here for Christmas 2022 and have also been here before. Firstly it has a lovely aesthetic and very clean. Definitely designed as a higher class pub experience. The staff were more than friendly and accommodating. 10/10 here. Wide selection of drinks though in my opinion a little expensive but were very nice. Food was nice for me and my partner but was a while to wait plus it varied in quality for the other party I was with. This is because (in my opinion) the restaurant was at full up and extremely busy as usually the food is amazing. Overall I had a wonderful time with excellent service and will definitely be back. Well done to all the staff!

I visited first time last week with a mate. The food was good, atmosphere was lovely. The only let down was the east European waitress who had face like a smacked a*^e. We completely felt unwelcomed. Thankfully; through the middle of the meal, a friendly waitress took over. We will visit again though, due to good food but I hope I don’t get served by that waitres again.

Just had the best Christmas 🎄 meal ever . We have tried other places over thr the years but as a family of 19 with three young children the best by far . The food was absolutely amazing. All the courses were superb but my steak was the best I've had ever! Fabulous family meal , fantastic time. Well done 👏 xx

Have visited twice now in the past 2 months. Food is lovely and a good gap between courses too. So far tried the chicken and leek with mustard mash and then also the sea bass for mains. Looking forward to a further visit. Oct 22

The staff were very helpful as our plans changed and we found ourselves needing their help in rearranging our plans. They were so helpful, added to that the food was first class.

Me and my partner popped in for Sunday lunch and had a very warm welcome. Staff were extremely friendly and the food was exceptional. 10/10 for the food and also for the service. Will definitely be returning. Da Iawn

Lunch today, service awful, plenty of staff, long waits, few customers, service terrible. Food was ok... Mash and veg only lukewarm. The bill was wrong 3 times, not a place I would recommend.

Ordered beer battered cod n chips the batter was rock hard the fish was dry the chips half were rock hard not very impressed with the food £14 for fish n chips I expected better Don't think I'll be going back there in the near future

What a wonderful find this was for a superb Sunday roast. The environment was warm and friendly, even with a fairly full seating area you didn't feel to close to other tables. The roast dinner was excellent, the beef was tender and tasty with plenty of extra veg to add to your plate. A wonderful family friendly place for a hearty Sunday lunch.

Great little cafe/bar best Gambas agillo ever had and not overpriced, food looks like the food advertised in the photographs.

Visiting Newport , we were taken here for lunch , dietary requirements no problem. Food well prepared and presented. Wine and beers particularly good. Staff pleasant , billing slightly confusing but will certainly make a return in the future.

Order a cold buffet for a garden party. It was delivered to the house smack on time. The food quality was fabulous, great variety and nicely presented. The egg mayo was outstanding. There was plenty of food for the guests to have several plates and take some home with them. The family loved it! Well done to the guys at The Ridgeway 👏 👏 👏

Wheelchair accessibility is very poor. No ramps only heavy metal removable ramps which due to lack of staff we ended up moving to each doorway to enable our family member to join the rest of the party. Something must be done to improve this

We were so pleased we found this place. I booked for Father's day lunch. The staff were really lovely and very professional. The food was excellent, well presented, hot and incredibly tasty. The cost of the meal was very reasonable, this is a restaurant we will definitely be returning to and recommending to friends & family.

Very welcoming pub. Had been walking my food in the area and asked if they accept dogs inside. No problem there's a small room just before the restaurant and had a lovely roast brisket dinner with everything and lovely starter but just no space left for dessert

My partner took me there for a evening meal as ive never been before .place looked nice and busy but we waited over an hour for our meal. When we asked if the chips were triple cooked we were told yes definatly but they were thick cut frozen ones which were dry. Steak was fine but chips spoilt the meal. We ordered the cheese board to have with a glass of port. It arrived with out any grapes when we asked where they were we were told they had run out. Well if i was working there i would have told the customer before serving them.Evening was a complete let down. Price was way over the top.we complained and was told we should of complained before we paid the bill. After talkingg to the manager she gave a partical refund for the cheese board.i for one will not be returning.
