We went in for a meal with a large number of people, very accommodating, service was excellent and food was stunning. Lovely external seating area with canopy aswell. Definitely visit again.

What has happened to this pub? I have lived overseas for the past 8 years and came back to a shell of the place I remember. Poor service by staff who seemed more interested in their phones than the customers! Over priced drinks and an atmosphere more akin to a morgue than a pub...who is the owner and does he care?? I left to go to the Handpost which was top drawer in comparison

Arrived at 12:30 at what we were told was a dog friendly pub and after booking only to have my dog turned away from the restaurant. Not a good start to the family get together. We were given inaccurate and misleading allergy advice… potentially dangerous. We ordered pretty quickly but didn’t receive our mains for 2:15 hours(although some did have starters in between) despite chasing the orders with the staff. We then ordered desserts and waited a further 45 minutes only to be told there was no vanilla ice cream for the children. Frankly this is not an acceptable level of service…. We will not be returning!

I got here 2.30pm still waiting for my food at 4pm. Don't think I will come again

it's really nice pub but the was,nt brilliant had gammon it was a bit tuff the meal was very hot it's a shame such a lovely place.

A promising menu, but that’s as far as it goes positively for this place. Staff are wholly despondent and unwelcoming- they are more interested in their phones and each other than providing decent service. From the offset, until the time we left, this was consistent. Starters were served, but missed one out, and as the staff were too busy with themselves, there was no-one to query this with. After two attempts to find the missing starter, it eventually arrived with the mains. Unfortunately, mains also failed to improve the situation- avoid the burgers if you do risk it! Chips are salted to the point of being inedible; onion rings deep fried to the point of being solid; hair in my son’s burger; burnt, hard buns dripping in grease. Again; no courtesy checks so no-one to raise this with. Eventually we gave up and left as soon possible. Admittedly, the missing starter was taken off the bill, but other than that, complete disinterest from staff. An expensive mistake to make.

Great restaurant, first visit but not the last, the steaks we had, sirloin and ribeye with blue cheese sauce, were fantastic, the wine resonably priced as was the real ale, HPA, which was a stunning pint, all served by a great team. Thank you.

Omg! Called in at this local pub and what a shock I had. I've been travelling for years and went to meet friends with plans to have a spot of lunch. On arrival, I went to use the ladies' toilet. Not one toilet seat was in working condition! They were in an awful condition. The place looked unkempt and tired, and the bar looked dirty. The glass behind the bar was stained and streaky. All I can say is I contacted my friends and said, "Don't make your way here; it's awful." If this is the front of house, I dread to see the kitchen. I will never go there again! Shame, because many years ago it was a lovely establishment!

We visited At The Ridgeway for the first time last week. The venue is charmingly decorated and things started well. We bought drinks at the bar and were seated immediately (we had booked in advance). The waitress who took our order was friendly and polite. We did wait quite a while for our food considering the place wasn't particularly busy and there were plenty of waiting staff, but that wasn't a problem. I made the mistake of asking for vegetables with my £21 meal (one of the cheapest things on the menu) instead of chips. When my plate came it was a small rectangular one with a small chicken fillet sliced in two, half a fried tomato, one mushroom and a little pile of iceberg lettuce. It looked like a child's portion! One of our party had peas, butternut squash and French beans with her meal so I'm not sure why those vegetables weren't added to my meal. We were asked if we wanted desserts and the waitress brought over the menus. Then, we waited and waited and waited ... until eventually we gave up and one of our party paid the bill, not realising a final drink had been added to the bill but had never arrived at the table. The most annoying part was there seemed to be plenty of waiting staff available, but they were just hanging around the counter area. One of our party worked in hospitality (in Cardiff city centre) for several years. Her verdict: the waiting staff needed proper management as they didn't seem to have a clue.

I'm not sure what's happened to this pub. It used to be a place I was proud to take friends, confident in great food and friendly, prompt service. To be fair the food was still decent but the service was so appalling it cast a shadow over the entire evening. One of the many sulky young girls employed there was far more interested in chatting with her colleagues than greeting us. We were barely greeted and our questions about the menu were greeted with monosyllabic replies and an unfriendly attitude. Despite it being mid-week with the restaurant section almost empty our food took around an hour to arrive although it was just soup and burgers. At no point did the waitress check if everything was ok with our meals and we had to repeatedly get up and go to the bar to ask for the dessert menu, more drinks...even the bill! What was particularly frustrating was the chef could quite clearly see us looking over to the bar to catch the waitress's eye but he pointedly ignored us and carried on chatting to her. Very unprofessional, lazy service bordering on the rude. Sort yourselves out please and get back to your former standards 🙏

Average food, some quite overpriced for what you get. Very slow service and noisy bar that spills into the resteraunt area.

Such a shame as this place used to be exceptional. I probably went prior to this about 10 months ago and food was delicious and service great. The menu has changed and not for the better, the menus were also poorly made and difficult to read. Unfortunately the food isn't great. We had the cheese burger and fish and chips with a side of onion rings. Food took 50 minutes to arrive. The food was hot and well presented, however the burger was tasteless and chips over salted. The fish batter was soggy and chips over cooked. The batter on the onion rings was super hard and had clearly been cooked in the same batter as the fish. The service all night was very slow. Friends of ours weren't given menus for 45 minutes. We had to ask twice for the bill. The staff seemed to be enjoying socialising more than actually serving and one server kept playing with her hair, taking it in and out and then serving food and drinks. There was also no hand wash in the ladies toilets. Extremely disappointed.

Hadn't been here for a while so Pre booked in advance. The restaurant was very quite , food was good but it took nearly 40 mins for it to arrive and the lady serving us was very miserable indeed and unhelpful . Mens toilet looked grotty too . Apart from that traffic👍👍👍.

This place needs lots of attention. Toilets always over spiling and smell. The place is tatty. Staff could do with more training. Food is usually good.

I booked a Christmas family lunch for 14 I was asked to send the menu choices prior by email. I sent 10 days prior no response I rang 4 times each time told someone would respond but I didn't receive a reply. The night before my Sister said all OK for tomorrow I said I hope so I cannot get an answer to whether they've received the menu choices. Although we pre-ordered it was over 40mins before we received starters they were OK, the main courses were brought out we had one child in the party so you would think his should be 1st but no & it didn't even follow straight after all the adults meals were brought out it was a while after. Some dishes of sprouts were brought out with no serving spoons. Asked if we wanted anything else requested cranberry sauce which took ages and then brought out the tiniest ramekin dish with no teaspoon. It was just so embarrassing for me I had stupidly booked it family came up from Devon I felt anxious throughout the whole meal. The turkey was as my Mum said dry like leather, roast potatoes & stuffing overcooked very dark or burnt some were. Dessert Christmas pudding was in my Mums words horrible a few of us ordered cherry & rice pudding brulee it was a big dish of cold grainy rice pudding no cherries to be seen it was horrible I did complain about it. After having lovely meals albeit pre Covid time it's obviously not what it was so would not go there again. I thought it would be busy it wasn't so guess it's not the popular place it once was for good reason. Whoever is in charge needs to give the staff training in food service it felt like a struggle. Laugh was I still left a tip as I felt like I should as a lot of us.

went there for a nice roast dinner after finishing food and getting the plates cleared and picked up, it took over 20 minutes for someone to come to us, we then got deserts which were fine. I even had to walk up to the bar to ask for my bill which i shouldn’t have to do. Even before ordering my food i asked if the 3 courses for 32 pound were still in place they said yes, I asked them each time they saw us about it they said yes it will be 32, even when we asked for deserts i asked again, they still said. Coming to pay the bill, it was 101 pound, i was shocked i asked them they double checked they said it’s that much, although i asked over 3 times about the deal. Also 16 pound for vat is ridiculous!!Bare in mind it’s only for 3 people. Food is okay for a pub

Met family here for coffee/breakfast. We all ordered cappuccino which was Luke warm, I had toast which was soft, soggy and undercooked, my husband ordered a sausage & mushroom roll which he thought was stale, definitely not freshly cooked. The staff were quite young, seemed quite unhappy & didn’t smile at all.

I had Sunday lunch here with my family (14 of us) to celebrate my 60th birthday on 29th September 2024. The food was excellent, absolutely couldn't fault it. The staff who looked after us were fantastic, very efficient and couldn't do enough for us. We will definitely come Again and recommend to all our friends.

Food was very good. I had the drunken cow burger which was awesome. Service bit slow as there was pnmy one waitress working.

Outstanding Sunday Lunch menu that isn’t just limited to roasts. Sunday Lunch menu is £22 for 2 courses or £26 for 3.

We met up this morning for breakfast as a group of ten semi-retired women. Table booked for 10a.m. We sat down at our table at 10.30 and ordered tea/coffee which arrived approximately 30 minutes later. We ordered our meals and my order arrived first at 11.45. My colleague who sat next to me ordered poached egg on toast which arrived last in our group at 12.45. Even though some breakfast meals were quite nice the service was really slow . There wasn't anyone else there so they were not rushed off their feet. Disappointed with the service. - apparently the kitchen had run out of salmon for one of the meals was one excuse. Won't be going there again.

As someone with coeliac disease I was so happy to have proper battered cod and chips 😋 At The Ridgeway in Newport, South Wales use Gluten Free flour and all items cooked in their fryer is Gluten Free 🙌 Good selection of GF desserts (though we were too full). Would definitely recommend 😊

Not the best, there was a group of about 25 and we had all preordered our meals, the staff did their best to get the food out in some order but failed, I had the beef which was very fatty, my wife had preordered turkey but was given chicken ! Not one to complain she decided to eat the chicken. When talking with the rest of the group no one was impressed.

Hello, i went today, it was absolutely awful. if you are in newport. do NOT go here, i almost fainted due to the noise and the acoustics in the checkout area. if i could i would review it a 0/10.

Was recommended the tomahawk by the chef and it was unreal. Probably should’ve shared between 2!! Calm atmosphere with lovely staff and chef. Will be coming back soon and hopefully have room for desert next time.

Food is very hit and miss. The sit down menu is ok, but very overpriced and I really always been left very unsatisfied. However, went for a outside beer garden meal with them last week and their "bar food" menu was Excellent and well worth the money!!!!

I haven’t been to the Ridgeway since the pandemic. I booked for my wifes 70th birthday party last Friday. There were 12 of us and everyone had a great experience. The service was excellent, really polite an attentive waiters. Between us we had choices right across the menu. Everyone commented on the high quality of the food. I would recommend this pub to anyone looking for top quality food in a relaxing environment.

Visited for Sunday lunch with a group of friends. Food was very good and plentiful! The service was generally very good although had to ask 3 times for some water for the table. The man serving us was excellent, very friendly and efficient. The lamb I found whilst very tasty was difficult to cut. Not sure if they need sharper knives possibly. The portions are huge and could probably be reduced a tad! The plates could with being bigger! All in all it was a lovely meal and a good time was had by all!

Food was overpriced and just not very nice. I know I complain about weatherspoons but thier food is actually better. Pub is more of a cafe style with few soft furnishings so noisey and void of any character. One redeeming feture was the staff, who were all very pleasant and efficient.

For the area its one of the better gastro pubs. Very nice staff, rapid service. Nice out doors sitting area too. Will come again

I don't usually write reviews but the service and the breakfast at the Ridgeway Inn was excellent. The breakfast menu is very good and I found it difficult to choose, between the four of us we opted for a vegetarian breakfast and full English Breakfasts, which was plentiful and hot. The restaurant and toilets were very clean and the staff were all courteous and friendly. Will definitely be eating here again.

Excellent service and good food

Four of us went for lunch. Three toasted sandwiches were ordered and a jacket potato. Orders came out one at a time so by the time the last one came out some of the others had finished. Apparently, they only have a machine that can do one toasted sandwich at a time!! Not very good for a pub. The one cheese and chutney sandwich was all onion and very little cheese. All in all nit the best lunch and considering there were very few people in there, very poor service, won't be bothering again unfortunately

The food was fantastic and the waiters where really nice.normally I’m very picky when it comes to food but I liked it especially the desserts

We were asked to pre-order as a family of 9, but when we arrived the menu had changed so side order did not correspond to mains. Service was sassy and we were asked to move into the bar at the end of meal, well before time, but there were no seats available so that was the end of the evening out with family 😞

We booked last minute 3 of us plus a dog. The food was very nice and the team was attentive and professional the chef even brought a nice treat to our doggie they made us feel welcomed. The atmosphere was nice as well, we had some nice interaction with other guests so would definitely come back next time I come to Newport!

We enjoyedour lunch, but we're surprised to find VAT was added to the whole bill.

I booked the pergola for 50th birthday celebrations. From the booking process and communication leading up to the celebrations, I was very pleased. Friends were able to pop to the pergola beforehand to decorate,and extra menus were given for guests to order bar snacks. As always, the service and food were very good and guests commented on this.

We had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Been going to this restaurant many times and never disappoints. Food was great and delicious, as always! Steak was perfect. We’ll definitely be back.

Didn't have food went for a family meeting,plenty of space in side out out mostly undercover just needed warm weather lol,food seemed a little expensive but didn't go there for that

🤮🤮🤮 so bad couldn't eat it only thing nice thing on my plate was the coleslaw. You could get better burger from farmfoods. Waitresses was rude had really bad attitude my 8 year old even said "whys that girl be rude" STAY AWAY FROM HERE MY ADVISE SEE WHY ITS EMPTY

We held my father’s wake at the Ridgeway Pub on Friday 31st May. We were guided by Ross, the Bar Manager whom we met the week before. He talked us through the whole process and the event went very smoothly with well over 50 people being catered for. The food was excellent and plenty of it. The service was fabulous and I would highly recommend.

Booked a table for 7pm, we were shown to our table straight away. The waiter asked what we would like to drink, i asked for rubarb and ginger gin, didnt have any left, so we then diceded we both wanted an alcohol free summer fruit cider, didn't have any left. So chose something else. I then asked for chicken supreme and veg, didn't have any left, so I chose cod and chips. My sister asked for mashed potatoes, didn't have any left. The meals came, my meal was piled high on a small plate. There was no room to cut my food on my plate. The fish looked huge but was alll batter. The chips were nice. I broke the batter off and there was a small amount of fish inside. My sister couldn't eat her meal because it was so salty. Although the salmon was lovely. For desert I ordered Eton mess, which was made with compote and Peaches in syrup with 'squirty' cream which disappeared! Oh and I forgot to say that was after we had waited over an hour after we made our order! We were given the main meals for half price... but I think I would have enjoyed chips shop fish and chips more. I love the ridgeway, but this was one of the worse experiences I've had in a restaurant for a very long time. I will definitely think twice before going there any time soon! The staff were lovely though. Who ever takes charge of stock needs to be spoken to on how to do their job properly.

The food at the Ridgeway is great and I go there often. Convenient location with parking and modern interior. The restaurant section is perfect for a romantic meal and the pub section is great for a more relaxed atmosphere. It can get busy so booking ahead on weekends is a good idea.

Ross, Ellie and Evie (hope I spelt that right) were all very kind, there were patient and attentive with a table as large as ours (10 seats). Very grateful for the good food and good atmosphere. P.s thanks for the bottle

We attended the ridgeway last night 22/4/24 and had a large table of 22 for my sisters 40th celebrations. Just wanted to comment on how fantastic the service was. Caitlin and Kate were lovely and great quick service. Ross was excellent and went over and above to make sure the meals went out at the right times and everyone was happy. The food was beautiful and the area we had was perfect. I’m sure we will be back. Thanks ☺️

We went here for a wake, after a funeral. The food was good. The staff were lovely, apart from telling them there was no paper in the ladies, within 30mins of arrival, nobody put any in. So I was rather narked, to have to complain again a couple of hour's later.

It was a great place for a drink, the staff were very good and it is dog friendly 🐾

Great pub, great food - bonus points they allow dogs and provide gluten free options...including fish and chips, which is always tricky to find! I would also recommend the dirty fries.

Had a lovely meal with the family. We were welcomed by the lovely Ross, who was very friendly and welcoming. He attended to us throughout the afternoon, nothing was ever to much trouble for him, couldn’t have expected more. 😊

Ross was amazing very friendly and helpful gave full recomendations of what foods and gave alternatives for food that could be swapped. The homage goulash was amazing I would recommend anyone.

A Christmas meal thoroughly enjoyed with good food,service and atmosphere.

We booked a lunch table for two. They had no pinot grigiot house wine because they had not ordered enpugh, even though it was the run up to Christmas. No alternative other than paying an extra £10 odd. Only one waitress serving or taking orders and the constant excuse was "we are very busy". Yes it's Christmas!! We ordered some bread and olive oil to start and some 40 minutes later and a reminder we were still waiting. We ordered 2 starters which should take no time and again we were still waiting but the excuse remained "we are very busy". If this is how they manage a pub it leaves a great deal to be desired. No wine no food and no service. I live locally and have used the pub and restaurant all my life but I'll be passing on my views to all my friends who all live within walking distance. Absolutely disgraceful and no management to even complain to. He wasn't in. The poor waitress was very sorry and I really feel for her. We left with no food but new excuse " we are short staffed". This should have been explained at the outset not as a reason or excuse at the end. We weren't the only people who were waiting an age but the proverbial couldn't organise a ....... springs to mind. I just hope the management up their game and help the poor staff. I doubt they'll even read it. Be warned though.

Can't recommend this place enough. The food is frist rate and the prices are reasonable for the quality.

Xmas lunch with friends on a quiet Friday lunchtime. Our table of 7 plus 2x2 tables occupied. Interior very modern warm on entry. Pre-booked & shown to our table. 2 members of staff available, took our drinks & starter requests. Our Mains - 5 Confit Duck, Wholegrain mustard, Mash, Red Wine Jus were ordered along with 2 Pan fried Chicken Breast in a white wine & Mushroom Sauce, Crispy Kale & Shoestring fries. The duck was served to 5 & 2 portions of Shoestring Fries. Those with the fries had to wait 7/8 minutes before the Chicken was served - 1 portion, steaming from the heat & the other cold (sent back & replacement given (piping hot on arrival, Inc the plate it was served on) By this time 5 of our party had finished their food with 1 (Chicken) dish almost finished so that left the final guest eating on her own!!!

Had a lovely Christmas meal on 1st December. Mushroom starter was delicious. The beef was cooked perfectly, so tender and nice homemade Yorkshire pudding. Roasted parsnip and carrot's, plenty of gravy. The cheeseboard was the best one I have had in a long time. Very impressed, definitely recommend. Thank you The Ridgeway for getting Christmas off to a great start 🎄

Had a brilliant time here, on a Saturday night. 60s birthday surprise party. They cooked food and took well care of everyone! The food was brilliant. Positively surprised that they had closed off half of the place to allow for the party to be in the back, since it was a Saturday evening. Thank you to everyone who worked and made the evening even better!

I had been to the Ridgeway previously and loved it. The food this time was very disappointing - tasted like a microwave meal. The service was very slow and not very good. Only one member of staff seemed to know what she was doing. It wasn't very busy where we were, but we were a big party.

Food was great and good value as was the service. Top marks.

The restaurant was clean and a bit busy last Saturday AM (28/10). The service wasn't the best really, as the greeter kept us waiting at the entrance for some time before we were seated. The waitress did her best to cater to us though she was the only one available. We had the southern chicken waffle with bacon and maple syrup. The food was ok actually but the portion is not a big one so don't have that if you're hungry!

The ridgeway pub is a Nice little pub. It's a nice place to go weekends all in a week. A little on the expensive side but it is nice. Also need a really nice food.

Went here tonight 12/10 for my birthday for the first time , it was an amazing experience! The food was outstanding as well as the attentive waitress.

Horrendous…..visited last Saturday evening. Major issues in the kitchen. Poor food and service. One person in the group didn’t eat all evening. Had to send two plates of food back. No gesture of goodwill offered.

Had an appalling lunch here. Service was surly and abrupt. Table and menus were dirty/sticky. Half of the things on the menu were off. When the food did arrive it wasn’t great. The restaurant is dark and uninviting, which is a shame as this place used to be much better. It’s as if someone’s given up.

Always impressed with this pub. A good selection of food well cooked that suits lots of different palates. Friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

Nice enough restaurant but menu not that inspiring. Would have liked few salad choices on it. Food that I had (burger)was nice but only had about a teaspoon of slaw to go with it in a silly metal mini saucepan. Might try it again in a few months time.

I would highly recommend the Ridgeway. Booked for a party of 17 for my husbands 60th Birthday and the food, service and atmosphere was second to none. Will definitely be going back.

A very nice bar lounge area. I just went there for a few drinks. The place is a lot different from when it was the old Ridgeway Inn. Nice friendly staff and locals.

Had my nieces birthday party here and was really well catered for with yummy buffet food. Service was great given that they had three large parties taking place at once.

Tonight I with my wife, daughter and 2 grandchildren ,14 and 16 year old, as my grandchildren live in Scotland so obvious don't see them very often so I thought that we would go and have a nice meal all together. Arrived at 7pm and after the server taking drinks order and food we then waited nearly 2 hours for it to arrive. I asked for a fork as used it for starters, the server forgot, my grandson got 1 from a near by table..my daughter asked for a drink, again the server forgot, it wasn't until she looked over ,nearly a hour later she suddenly remembered. I had what was called on the menu a ribeye steak it was like rubber and at no time did eich of the 2 server's come and ask how the meal was. I have just wasted £30 on a piece of meat that was like rubber, the only good part was the chunky chips and onion rings. The people, server's and 2 men behind the bar were more interested in cleaning down, never mind the guests. I would NOT go again as extremely disappointed and the bill !!!!! Very expensive for what we had

Very middle of the road breakfast. Everything on the plate was cold, stone cold beans and toast and the three plates all came separately with quite a delay in between, quite strange the place was empty except for one more table. That being said, a lovely looking restaurant, just poor food.

I had the best belly pork I've eaten in a very long time. The place was busy but not packed in tight. There was plenty of elbow room. The waiting team were consiencered, friendly, and very hard working. The selection of ales was limited to two, I think there should have been at least two more, but that is a small matter. Overall, very, very good
