I come here very often and I’m so impressed with the food and service this past 6/7 months, place is definitely loved and extremely clean 🧼 the constant dog treats available is such a lovely touch. The Priory feels like stepping into a loved home 💙

Enjoyed a wonderful late lunch with all family at The Priory. Great service from Simon who also gave us some great food recommendations. The sea bass was particularly well prepared and presented and we all left clean plates.

We held a surprise party for my parents 80th birthday at The Priory for 30+ people. Everything was outstanding .. the food was delicious, the team (BiG thank you to Liam, Lillie, Jess, Sarah and Sally) was amazing - everyone went out of their way to make sure we all had what we needed! I can’t say enough great things about our fantastic dinner there…. We will be back!

Excellent service quality of food and ambience. Bit pricy but worth it. Lovely decor and clean toilets. I had the Sunday lunch followed by sticky toffee pudding and my partner had the sea bass and pavlova. We both enjoyed and the waitress was extremely pleasant. We will go back

First time coming here, loved it, had roasts, the little apple pie you get with the pork is a cute idea, didnt rate the yorkshires or the roast potatoes but was 5pm so they prob ran out of stuff! Used the Priory last year for Xmas lunch, returned again this year, food, drinks, service by Simon and various assistants were all excellent, looking after 10 people is not easy but they managed well. Good value for money and great ambiance.

I went to this delightful pub/restaurant in Portbury, Bristol, with a friend. Our lunch was delicious, freshly cooked, and very filling. It was quite quiet, we went on a Monday afternoon. The staff, in particular Andrea, were friendly, attentive and helpful. I would happily recommend it for a quiet, weekday lunch.

Business trip local venue choice for 4 of us last minute booking. Service excellent Food excellent albeit the wait was long between courses Decor/atmosphere excellent Truly one of the better country style pubs I have been too. If the amount of reviews I have left at places doesn’t convince you this is an excellent choice I don’t know what will. We had the sticky platter to share Plus the signature burger and the lamb & feta kebabs!

It was my Birthday, and wanted to take my Parents (90 and 88) respectively, for a late Sunday lunch. Firstly I want to say the Staff front of house were excellent, served by a great young Man called Vince. As usual as with most venues, they were understaffed.. The Menu, at The Priory is still comprehensive, but, My Parents wanted the Sunday roast.. Two out of the four of us had Starters, three ordered beef, one Pork Belly. Despite, the venue being quite quiet, We had to wait a full hour for the main courses to arrive.. The meals were a good size, however the kitchens let the front of house, and customers down, when the food arrived, the veg, of the steamed variety eg. Broccoli was barely cooked and extremely hard to cut never mind eat, the roasted veg, parsnips for example were burnt on one side, as were the roast potatoes.. As for the cold cauliflower cheese, the cheese had dried solid and was overcooked.. not one of us eat more than a mouthful of the crispy Yorkshire’s.. And mysteriously the pork belly ( was excellent) but served with a slice of beef under it? I’m afraid even though we have been going to the Priory for years, we won’t be hurrying back on a Sunday. Come on guys you can and have done better, if you can be bothered…

So disappointed with The Priory at our most recent visit.. We visited for a birthday lunch and had booked our table well in advance. First off we are a tall family and we were seated around a very small round table, which wasn't suitable for dining on even if you were of average height.. There was nowhere to comfortably put your feet because of the design of the table (one central leg). We went to order drinks to be told their taps weren't working, and they barely had any bottles left so choice was extremely limited.. Staff were lovely but were understandably stressed. When our food arrived the veg was cold, the parsnip was hard and inedible and the roast potatoes were new potatoes so they were round and soggy rather than crispy plus you only received one very thin slice of the meats available (we ordered the trio roast lunch). When you're paying over £20 for a roast dinner, you'd expect a much higher standard!

Good food and great service which impressed our Danish friends. Our waitress Jane was lovely and alerted us to a 40% off Monday lunchtime deal which she helped us sign up for. Hadn’t been here for a few years but will definitely go back.

Went here with a friend. Reviews are good so we were excited to visit and the pub itself was lovely, modern with character. But the staff seemed like they had the world on their shoulders especially the man behind the bar. He was so miserable and came across arrogant and it felt as though everything was a chore. Staff need training for basic customer service! It might seem petty but to name a few things, I didn’t get the flapjack with my coffee as stated on the menu (i feel I should of been told when ordering), our plates were not cleared so mains came out whilst we had our starter plates on the table, main plates were never cleared either. I had to go wait at bar to get some sugar, didn’t get offered sauces, didn’t get checked on, tables around us empty but not cleared and no staff to be seen! My friend wanted to order a decaf tea after her meal but felt too awkward to ask the man behind the bar as she didn’t want to annoy him further. Such a negative vibe and no one seemed bothered which is a shame. Man behind the bar was just playing on his phone in the end. Really can’t get across how disappointed I am.

The food was great, the ambience was great but the staff, in particular the manager Alejandro, were outstanding. When my husband passed out they were amazing. The diners in the area around us were moved to another room in the pub, the manager dialled 999 and, together with the brilliant retired nurse on the next table, took over. He even fed the paramedics when they arrived! Did I mention that the lovely waiter, Alfie, took us home? Excellent in every respect. Highly recommended.

Wow !! What a lovely evening. The restaurant was packed yet, the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was great. We will certainly be back.

What an absolutely fabulous Evening. I highly recommend The Priory in Portbury to anyone wishing to have a relaxed friendly welcoming evening with great food. The manager Andrea was very professional and made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were friendly and helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Even our little dog was made to feel most welcomed. We will definitely be returning here very soon. Thank you to all the staff and especially Andrea for your warm welcome.

Well I've now experienced the infamous manager Andrea, what a delight she is, NOT!!! How can one woman be so rude, when she is suppose to work in hospitality. Bought my Mother for a late Mothers day treat as she had been unwell, I asked not to be seated in the thoroughfare down towards the toilets, but yes you guessed it that was where we were seated even though the whole of the lower restaurant was empty, apparently they were already booked out but no-one went down there during the entirety of our visit and remained empty when we left, so obviously a bare faced lie. Used to love The Priory, Jane continues to be wonderful as she has been for many, many years but now I have to say that I won't be returning again. There are far better pubs/restaurant in the area that I feel, deserve my business and actually treat their customers with respect, so I'm going there instead.

Lovely pub. Beautiful food. Really polite staff. Although the person we can only assume is the manger, is very rude and not at all helpful.

Firstly I'd like to say we all ate here before Christmas 2023 and had a lovely meal. We are 2 couples in our 70's and we visited the Priory on Friday 22nd March 2024. We were welcomed by a very genial waitress who was excellent throughout our visit. The main courses we ordered were Fishcakes x 2, Chicken Salad and Duck Pizza. Wish we had taken a photograph of the fish cake meals because for £17 + to say they were disappointing would be a massive understatement. The fishcakes were quite small and were accompanied by 3 tiny, wrinkled skin on boiled potatoes which were hidden under a portion of wilted green veg. Would have been ok as a starter but not a main course. The chicken in the chicken salad was as tough as old boots. The pizza was fine. We did complain to the waitress who arranged for a 10% discount. The meals are mediocre and overpriced. We can safely say, WE WILL NOT RETURN and would definitely not recommend.

On arrival the guy couldn’t find the reservation, and once he did said your friends are here, so have a look around to find them!! The girl serving us was sweet, but the overall service was really slow, and once the food did arrive we felt rushed. Didn’t pay for the cauliflower cheese, which comprised of a piece of cauliflower with the tiniest piece of cheese on it. Pretty dreadful!

Had another lush evening here tonight. We come here on occasion and absolutely love it. Staff are lush and the food is always great.

Came for a Sunday roast and it did not disappoint! Our waitress Martha was so nice and attentive - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The roasts were also delicious and portion sizes were perfect. Lovely pub and atmosphere. We will be back! :)

Popped in a couple of days ago for hoping for lunch. Main entrance was out of use due to exterior building work. We're offered a table directly next to a propped open door. Which was therefore very cold and windy. Not at all suitable for my eldery mother. We could see that the whole lower level seating area was completely empty. Asked if we could move. We could hear the blonde woman behind the bar say there were no other tables and were turned away! Although we could see many empty tables.... So why make people sit in the freezing cold! The few people that were eating all had coats on. We met some other people in the carpark who were saying its quite normal to be rudely treated or refused a table for no particular reason by this woman they even new her name Angela? Apparently it's a running joke in the area. Priory hotel more like Fawlty Towers

Went to The Priory for lunch on Wednesday with my friends and had a great meal, The new menu was great and the service from Andrea was amazing nothing was too much trouble will definitely be going again soon.

Visited today with family for lunch. We’ve been in many times and the service varies between excellent to very poor (bordering rude) depending on which manager is working. Unfortunately today it was Andrea who was at her absolute rudest. Andrea initially ignored us, then refused to seat us at the front of the pub as we have requested even though we did not require table service. We explained my mum wore a hearing aid and could not hear well so seating us at a round table for six when there was only four of us was never going to work. Andrea then chose to seat us by the door which was ridiculously hot. As soon as we finished eating we moved to the front of the pub (at this time Andrea was off duty and service returned to excellent). Having experienced this individual’s attitude too often now, we would turn heel if she was on duty at future visits.

This is a place half way between my friend and my address where we often meet. The food is good but today they allowed 3 big dogs to sit (with their owners) in the food area where we were seated. It had been raining so it quickly smelt of damp dog and we left before having a pudding. Another owner and dog also came in resulting in a barking competition, again not the peaceful meal we were after. Please make one area for dogs only and not to sit with those who have gone out for a nice meal.

Webt for mothers Day as a treat the food was amazing and cooked to perfection. The staff were really helpful even though the restaurant was busy well sone look forward to coming back.

Seven of us for lunch. Whilst very busy and the waitress advised a shortage of staff everything from service to food could not be faulted. Will obviously go again.

Upon entry was met and led straight to our table. Quickly followed by Jess taking our drinks order. The food was excellent. Shared baked Camembert, lamb skewer and the sea bass. Both my mother and I have healthy appetites and both of us were more than happy with the quantity.

We went to lunch yesterday, Monday, and were very pleasantly surprised. The staff were very welcoming and showed us to our seats in a quiet alcove. The pub itself was quite busy for a Monday and had a great atmosphere. The waiting staff was polite, attentive and efficient. There was a good variety of food to choose from. The food was lovely. It was well presented and more importantly tasty. We will be returning and recommending this place to our friends.

We have eaten here many times as it’s local to us and always had lovely food but this time was disappointing . The atmosphere and staff are lovely, great service but the standard of my food was poor. I asked for fillet steak and a side order of ( beans, peas and broccoli ) , it came with so many edamame beans you could hardly find the veg. The fillet steak was poor, quite tough , a few salad leaves , 10 cherry tomatoes and potato. It’s not cheap to eat here and I’m hoping it’s just a one off as I have always loved the food so hopefully next time it will be better.

Wanted a pub nearby to Ashton Gate that allows and picked the priory . They advised they allow dogs in certain areas ,so we sat and ordered the beef brisket sandwich and the fish and chips..After a longish wait ..people who ordered after us received their food before ..our food arrived and the fish and chips looked and tasted fine (not £16 worth) but tasty and the thick chips were a bonus, however the beef brisket was very disappointing (especially for £11) the bread it came in was from a loaf from a supermarket thin and floppy and the chips that accompanied were thin and overcooked..the beef however was OK and the gravy was tasty but overall defo not worth the money ...my wife also had to wait 10 mins to pay at the bar where the staff seemed to ignore her ...Will not be returning

Had a great lunch with my family. The staff were very attentive with anything that we needed. They were very accommodating as we were a larger table that had special requirements due to limited mobility with my Grandpa. Andrea was serving us and she was brilliant! Rest of the team were also very smiley and helpful! Food was very quick and at a great quality

Lovely Friday lunch with my friend. We had the Chicken Skewers triple cooked chips and salsa, absolutely gorgeous. A big generous portion and really well cooked. Andrea was lovely too, very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend.

Once again as 3 weeks ago, no beer on tap, no pizzas, limited choice for vegetarians. Different excuses this time but uninterested and apathetic manner by waitress. What a shame, have enjoyed previous visits but won't be visiting again or recommending.
