The waiting staff are completely clueless. The waiter couldn’t be bothered to move around the long table to gather either drinks or meal orders. We would have ordered puddings if they could have been bothered to clear the table rather than leaving empty plates for 30 minutes. Even then they only removed half the plates. The food was so disappointing - it seemed like someone created a great menu a while ago then someone else figured out how they could do something similar with the cheapest, oldest possible ingredients and got someone who’s not had any training to cook it. Beef was full of gristle, fish was poorly prepared. Vegetables were dry.

Was in the area for business and found this place tucked away behind some trees. Stopped in for a raost dinner and was very impressed! The roast dinner was absilutly amazing, tender, perfectly seasoned meats, I asked for mine to be "well done", and it came out bang on. Roast potatoes were some of the fluffiest i have had, and I do liek a nice potato! The veg was perfectly cooked and not soggy like alot of places, and the yourkshire pud was massive!! Apparently a new chef has joined the team and they now have a full compliment of kitchen staff. Wait time was a bit over 20 minutes but considering the place was packed and they were turning away walk ins, i am guessing they were getting slammed! The waiting staff were brilliant, working quickly, but diligently and trying to meet everyones requests. Definatly recommend this place if your a roast dinner fan like myself!!!

My wife and I are local and have visited this pub regularly. It's a Fullers and has never been cheap, but it was well run and dependable. There are a lot of funerals and wedding receptions held there. The prices in the bar have got worse, a lot worse and the pub is looking tired, the staff less interested. Maybe as the main revenue is from the private events. We are disinclined to visit much anymore.

Went for Sunday lunch, lovely pub, in nice surroundings. Ordered the roast beef dinner, lovely vegetables, the menu stated ‘pink’ beef, however the beef, although tender, was not pink at all, it was brown. I mentioned to the bar man, and the reply was”well it depends on where you cut the beef from”, which of course already know, but if the menu states pink, then it should be pink. Otherwise just don’t write anything. I also asked for extra gravy, this was bought to me at the end of my meal! Overall not bad, but don’t go if you like your beef pink. I won’t be returning.

Sometimes in pubs off the beaten track things are a bit more laid back, this is totally on point, super clean (Gents toilet was as clean as my own at home), beer glasses clean, beer faultless, staff polite and knowledgeable. Nice place to stay near the A31. The food and restaurant is OK. Breakfast was included but we were told that eggs benedict would take 30 minutes to arrive and discouraged from ordering anything but the standard full English. It was OK except cheap sausages. We stayed in the suite which was very comfortable, but it was a strange layout. The bathroom would be much easier accessed from the sitting area, rather than right next to the entrance door. It sounds odd, but when in the middle of the night you have to walk through 2 rooms to have a wee it's not ideal. Frankly a bit overpriced for the quality

The breakfast was really not that good, the bacon was just ridiculous, the sausage was barely cooked and you got around a tablespoon of beans. Excellent service, exceptional food and so it should be for the astronomical prices! £22 for a Sunday roast! And that just for the dinner on its own. Unfortunately we were sat next to a table of 23, most of which involved 500 children who were constantly running in and outside of the FIRE door to the garden, which was continuously opened and slammed shut. Relentlessly. The banging of the door was so loud it shocked some of the older guests and ruined their afternoon, which was supposed to be a joint 70th birthday celebration.

Popped in for lunch during a walk. Nice atmosphere and a friendly, welcoming service from Tarek and Rose as you’d expect. Tarek was very informative and enthusiastic about the menu which was nice to see, but perhaps a little too much. Even to the point where he briefly stopped by our table with another customer’s lunch to show us what was on offer. I’m not sure I’d be too happy if that was our lunch being displayed under someone else’s nose before arriving at our table. However, we appreciated he was making a real effort. My husband really enjoyed his leek and potato soup but there was no butter with the one small slice of bread it came with. He also ordered the kofta from the starter menu and although it was lovely, there wasn’t much in the way of the actual kofta which was small and sliced up into four tiny pieces. The flat breads and potato salad took up most of the plate. My beef lasagne and salad was below average and very much on the dry side. Although it was homemade, I don’t think it was fresh and baked on the day, but seemingly reheated/blitzed in a microwave to the point where the pasta had become chewy in places. There wasn’t much béchamel or tomato sauce that I could identify. For £15.95 I would have expected a little more than a moderate portion and a side salad. Some garlic bread would’ve been good. My biggest gripe was when I asked if we should settle our bill at the table or at the bar. Either apparently would have been okay but Tarek and Rose seemed to have a brief deliberation at the bar before Tarek came over with the card machine, quoted our bill and took payment. Only then did he hand over our itemised bill and we saw that a 12.5% service charge had already been charged without our say so. I thought that sequence of events was a bit odd, not the norm when settling a restaurant/pub food bill and very poor etiquette. Slightly irked that I wasn’t assertive enough to ask for the itemised bill before paying. Overall, very friendly and helpful service, the food wasn’t the best value for money and the billing etiquette was terrible and disrespectful. Not a good enough experience to warrant a return.

On a rainy Saturday lunchtime 28 October we turned up at The Princess Royal without a booking. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by a gentlemen from the restaurant who had a table for the three of us available. The place was actually quite busy and every table in the bar area was taken. We ordered drinks which are a little pricey when you think what you can pay for drinks in some places in Farnham. Peroni (pint draught) £6:95 and a bottle of Folio Pinot Grigio will set you back a staggering £27!!!! Why white wine should be this expensive when you can buy bottles of Pinot Grigio for as little as £6 is a mystery, but I am sure rip off Britain would be able to answer this😒. Anyway apart from the unjustified expensive drinks the food was absolutely superb and priced realistically. Two of us had the really tasty Chicken and Ham Hock pie with mash, veg & gravy at £16:95 each. One of us had the Fish and chips with peas at £17:95. Cant fault the food or the excellent service we received. My only negative is the drinks prices which would keep us away from this place. Our drinks bill came to £47:25 and our food bill £59:80 totalling £107:05. Parking is not an issue as they have ample. In the summer there is a garden area and many tables out the front to relax and enjoy.

We visited this pub on Father's Day 2023 as we are local in Runfold. It ended up no better than average. Very poor attitude by the staff, and it was a case of the computer said no! If you wanted chicken of a salad, then tough luck as it wasn't available even though it was on the main menu, but removed for the Father's Day menu. One of our party ended up ordering a starter as a main meal because there was no chicken option. Another ordered a main meal and a side salad to get their salad. On a positive note, the scampi tasted nice, and the triple cooked chips were crispy. Overall, if you like the options on the menu, then this is fine. But if you want anything else, then suggest you find another place to eat as you won't get any flexibility of help from The Princess Royal Fullers restaurant. We did ask the restaurant manager for some flexibility and to order from their regular menu, but the computer said no! Their inflexibility put a dampener on what was meant to be a Father's Day celebration.

We stayed at the Princess Royal for two nights in January 2023. The whole experience was excellent but this review is about the restaurant that we used for breakfasts and evening meals. The first thing I should say is that the staff have been the most effective, friendly and efficient we have come across for many years. From the check in to the bar and serving staff at every meal without exception they were just excellent. The breakfasts were beautifully cooked, I had the Full English while my wife had different egg dishes each morning. All we’re lovely. For the evening meals we tried the Gnocchi dish and the Scampi Special. These were very good and we followed up with the excellent desserts. We had intended to eat out the second night but couldn’t bring ourselves to go out when there were such good choices to be had, served by the excellent staff. I would recommend without hesitation.

We booked our company Christmas party for the 17th of December for 15 of us and the Manageress was very accomodating frendly and efficient to deal with. Unfortunately that is where it stopped. We turned up at 6.30pm to have some drinks in the bar and the assistant manager in charge for that evening was Tom, he seemed a bit agitated that we turned up early even-though the pub was not particular busy. They had laid everything out for us in a side room and everything looked good. The food was excelent some of the best pub food ever. The service was good up to later that evening when we had finished the food and sat around having a drink. At this point somebody had been sick in the Gents nothing to do with us but we were accused of it and bared from having any further drinks. we tried to find out why but the assistant manager had left and the two remaining bar staff refused to discuss it with us so we left. It is our believe that the party of young people friends of the bar staff as they were drinking all night free shots and anything else they got one of these was the culprit but we got the blame. So unfortunately we were going to book this years Christmas Party and my birthday party because the food was excellent. But because of the way we were treated we will not be returning. We have been offered compensation but no amount of money will make us go back witch is such a shame. Hopefully they will retrain some of the staff on how to be more customer focused in the future.

We have been locals of the Princess Royal for over 20 years and met several mangers during this time who have always been professional and welcoming. We have observed several refurbishments of the pub during this time and had major family events there, including my fathers wake and our entire family staying at the hotel after our wedding at the Elstead Mill (another local Fullers pub and before the PR gained their wedding licence). We supported the pub during the covid pandemic, sitting outside in our hats and scarves and, despite the alcohol prices being above average for the area, believe we have been very loyal customers. However in view of a particularly unpleasant incident with the male manager we will not be visiting our ‘local’ again. We are both in our 60’s and were shocked by his aggressive reaction when my husband (who enjoys ales) asked about a new Fullers ale that was advertised on the board outside and inside the pub when we visited for our mid week drink. The manager raised his voice at my husband across the bar and in front of several customers who were seated around us. We felt upset and embarrassed by his reaction which bordered on bullying and very belittling. We really miss the pub, the locals and the lovely bar staff we have met over the years but whilst this person remains managing the pub we won’t be returning……

My wife and I had been our Christmas shopping and on the spur of the moment decided to call into the Princess Royal for lunch on 19 Dec. The place was fairly busy and we decided not to sit in the restaurant but in one of the alcove areas adjacent to the front door. Our server was Elizabeth who was very efficient and friendly. We had decided just to have sandwiches in white bloomer bread. We opted for one Applewood Cheddar Cheese and Caramelised Onion Chutney sandwich at £8:75 and one Prawn and Crayfish sandwich at £10:25. Both came with a bowl of triple cooked chips and salad. Both plates of sandwiches were simply perfect and tasted delicious. A pint of Peroni will set you back £6:45 and a glass of Folio Pinot Grigio which we were told was the house wine will cost you £8:30 for a 250ml glass. Our total lunchtime meal/drinks came to £42:05. We would certainly eat here again as the food, although only sandwiches were just excellent. Thank You.

I went for Sunday lunch with family. They are all meat eaters and their meals were appetising and very generously portioned. Huge platefuls that they struggled to finish and really enjoyed. I ordered the only vegan main on the menu - a curry. It came in two small white bowls on a wooden platter. One bowl had a tiny portion of white rice with a few flecks of wild rice. The other had an equally tiny portion of green lentil curry which had been over microwaved as it had crusty bits round the edges. When I put them on the plate the food barely covered a third of it. The curry was bland, with no visible vegetables. I'm only 5 foot 3, of slight build and female and I left feeling really hungry. I've come home to eat another meal! Many young people are now vegan. How hungry would a 18 year old guy be after that meal?!Believe it or not, not all vegans are into self deprivation :) We want to go out and enjoy a meal like everyone else. Not finish a meagre portion in 5 minutes and watch everyone else eat for the next half an hour.It was £13 which is too much for a meal which had ingredients costing less than a pound. Would it have been so hard to add a poppadom or two? Or some bread? Or soya yogurt? Or mango chutney? I have left feeling short changed. And my family were left feeling guilty that I had such a poor meal when they were stuffed.I won't be booking any more meals at any pubs within this chain. Other restaurants have cottoned onto the fact that there are a lot more vegans about nowadays and we're not prepared to settle for sub standard food.

Sunset with a beer, nice staff. Very good all round. Just on the edge of Farnham so very handy for a swift pint. Recommended.

Really friendly staff but for fifteen pounds the portion of the salmon I ordered was really measly which was a complete shame!Staff were super friendly though which made it all a bit better... I'd recommend something else if you were picking.

My husband and I visited here today for lunch. It’s a nice pub but sadly rather noisy if sitting outside at the front because of the road. I wasn’t very hungry so had the Halloumi breaded fingers and my husband had a chicken/chorizo/spinach dish. Both were quite nice, not particularly large portions but enjoyable. The sweets were great though, I had the brownie and my husband the cheesecake which was especially delicious. I think the prices for some of the mains are rather high but otherwise worth a visit definitely.

Drinks and food were really lovely. But was pricey. We sat outside and it was a lovely atmosphere. Staff are friendly.

We were really lucky and had an upgrade to a suite - beautifully done, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was great, freestanding bath, separate shower, lovely fluffy towels and lots of hot water. The menu in the restaurant had plenty of vegetarian choices and the food was good - breakfast too. All the staff were lovely, really helpful and friendly. We will definitely visit again soon.

Lunch with 14 colleagues- a variety of lunches from sandwiches to salads and soup. I had large fish and chips and mushy peas. The latter were dried out, the fish medium Sized and little taste and the batter slightly seasoned only. Chips floury. It was okay but not that nice. Service was friendly but price wise it is on the high side!!

When the menus of various Farnham restaurants doing a set Christmas meal for groups were shown around, we had high hopes for this place, especially as it was one of the more expensive options. Nothing wrong with the welcome, venue, service or drinks (although the wine prices were ridiculous), but the food was REALLY disappointing. Mean portions and really low quality produce (we actually laughed out loud at some of the starters when they arrived) has ensured we won’t be choosing this place again.

We were pleased to discover that the rooms are in a separate building rather than over the pub itself. The rooms are lovely quality and a good size. The shower was delightfully hot.

Thought I had put this review through ages ago. Anyway we booked up The Princess Royal for my mothers wake on 10th October 2018. We only had catering for 50 and this was perfect. What was a great attraction for this venue is its lovely location and that it never charged a fee for you to hire the room we had. The food and service was absolutely perfect. We had wines & fizz for guests when they arrived and a sandwich buffet at £9:50 per person. This buffet does include far more than just sandwiches. We had a really lovely afternoon and the whole event went without a hitch. I would highly recommend this venue and location.

I visited with a friend for lunch. We were handed 2 very tatty menus that were stained and had certainly seen better days. There was no special menu and all the main courses were very expensive. We both decided on the small fish and chips. It was the smallest piece of fish I had ever seen and there were not many chips either.

After having fabulous away day (on Saturday @Goodwood 14th July), me and my friend wanted a nice breakfast to round off the weekend. The Princess Royal delivered on that!! We didn’t book, we were walk-in customers & the staff were extremely welcoming & fabulous hosts. Thank you to them on Sunday 15th July!! If you want a great tasting breakfast, in a night atmosphere this is the place to go!!!

We had booked for a family get together very disappointed with the service and the food well overpriced and very poor quality. The pie of the day was cold in the middle served with no vegetables.Fish and chips average salmon salad was very basic. Service was awful rude staff no greeting had to ask for menus to order cutlery for puddings just dumped on the table and one scoop of ice cream for adults served in a beer class.Drinks were a massively overpriced and no soft drinks from the pump on a scorching hot day will not be returning.

Breakfast was varied on the menu but contained good tasty choices. Buffet table with fruit, yogurt, cereals and pastries available if a cooked breakfast is not required. The staff were friendly and helpful, they served toast, tea and coffee at the table and took and served hot breakfast orders.

We booked a meal for a family funeral party, and how fitting that turned out to be, as the doom and gloom that came out of the kitchen disappointed, dish after dish.

We'd booked a table for Father's Day, and wished we hadn't. The steak was sent back twice for being overcooked, the pork was dry, the chicken re-heated, the gravy out of a packet. It was lazy, sloppy cuisine from a kitchen that either didn't know any better, or didn't care. We won't be going again.

The Princess Royal Pub has occupied it’s enviable position on the A31 Hogs Back for as long as I can remember.. A sprawling building with an impressive frontage, and within striking distance of beautiful Farnham, in Surrey, it now enjoys a more peaceful spot since the bypass has taken the heavy traffic away from the main road it sits on..

Fabulous for a Sunday Lunch all either local and/or british products. From the meat to the vegetables & fruit everything is sourced as locally as possible. For me that is a BIG PLUS of this restaurant and I truly believe what OUR farmers can produce way outshines what is imported. Field to plate in 48 hours! Sorry, no photos, I just enjoyed the company I was with and the delightful food which was all beautifully presented.

We had a very disappointing experience. We had chosen the restaurant to meet up with friends for lunch. When we arrived it seemed we were expected for tea - at 1230. Despite email confirmation for lunch and mentioning a menu choice. The lunch menu is light meals only, but even so the food was unappetising and poor. A big let down despite the smart grounds.
