We had an incredibly nice evening. The chef spoiled us with excellent food. The new octopus creation in particular is an absolute dream. It's worth eating here just for that. The drinks were also of a high standard. If you don't go here, you're missing out.

My experience at the Princess of Shoreditch has been nothing short of delightful. This charming gastropub stands out for its sophisticated selection of dishes and the quality of its ingredients. The service is truly exceptional, making everyone feel at home. Each dish we tried was a testament to the culinary expertise behind the menu. I particularly recommend starting with the shared nibbles, which are perfect for setting the tone of a lovely meal. The ambiance is wonderfully cozy, making it an ideal spot for dinner. Additionally, their Sunday roast is a must-try – it's not only generous in portion but also super flavourful. I can't wait to come back very soon!

We came here for Sunday lunch and enjoyed the food and pub atmosphere. We opted for the 3 courses and I had the salmon (nice and fresh), sirloin of beef with potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy (generous portion and well cooked beef), the cauliflower cheese (great side to have with the roast) and the sticky toffee pudding (delicious). All the staff were friendly and the service was great.

Pub food trying at elevated price point / portioning. Not an awful place to eat by any means but totally missed the mark on what it wanted to be. Appetizers were good but mains disappointing. Not a particularly notable experience nor value for money. The beef cheek dish in the photo was almost £30, the plate looks a bit sad. Didn’t help that the staff were a bit cold. I misordered a dish and asked for what I thought I had, when I was corrected the server plopped the dish on the table with a strangely antagonistic attitude. Classy.

Mixed review. Firstly, this gastropub unfortunately does not play in the same ballgame as their sister restaurants Pig & Butcher and Smokehouse (which are both excellent). We had a roast here with a group of 10. The food was delicious, but very stingy on sides. We had about 1 potato per person and 1/4 of a carrot. Unfortunately one of the groups orders were missed and had to wait 25 minutes for their main. Staff were not attentive and lacked initiative to check on the table, offer drinks, check on waters, and clear the table. Toilets were quite dirty as well and the general atmosphere and energy was off.

I'm a local and I have been at the Princess of Shoreditch many times. Last Saturday it was disappointing as I went for dinner with 3 friends and we were asked to leave after 1h 45min as they needed the table back. We didn't have enough time to finish our meal as we could not even order desserts and in fact we had to send back the last drinks we ordered as they didn't arrive by the time we were asked to leave (there is no option to move to the bar either!). If a restaurant cannot guarantee that customers can finish their meal, then the allocated slot does not suffice. It was very disappointing and I won't return.

Visited here as a party of 3 on a Sunday to try their roast dinner. It certainly did not disappoint. The restaurant both upstairs and downstairs was fully booked and the atmosphere was buzzing. We were sat upstairs in a beautifully decorated room. We all had three courses which consisted of a butternut squash and yoghurt soup. It contained oil and peanuts which I’d never had before but was delicious. The others had a salmon and a sea bream starter which they loved. All dishes were presented beautifully. Our mains were roast beef, cooked to perfection with a giant yorkshire pudding, vegetables, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. The food was so good, all we needed was extra gravy which was no trouble at all. I had sticky toffee pudding which is a firm favourite of mine and this one was the best I’ve ever tasted. I was so engrossed with my dessert I didn’t really take any notice of what the others were eating but they had something chocolatety!!! The staff were really attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Can’t wait to return, we had a fabulous meal in a fabulous setting. Went for Sunday roast. Nice room (upstairs), friendly service, good reasonably priced menu - but OH MY GOD the toilets are absolutely disgusting. Made a mistake of going to the loo before starting to eat and I nearly couldn't eat. More glastonbury than gastropub. Can't understand why somewhere which has nice atmosphere, good food and good service would put their customers through that, or even how they haven't been closed down. Once I stopped gagging the starters and puddings were very nice. The roast was ok. It's probably a mistake to go for a roast at the end of a day because it felt like the meat had been cooked for a while.

The best experience I've had in London in a long while. We had the puy lentils, braised venison, and the pollock in addition to various side dishes. Every dish and every component was full of flavour. Staff members were quick and courteous. The atmosphere is intimate, like you're sitting in a private dining venue. The emphasis is really on the food and guests' comfort, not the bougie accessories and decoration like in so many places around town. My friends and I chose here for Sunday lunch and while the food was very good, the service was not. Most staff were very polite and friendly but their attentiveness was severely lacking. Firstly, we waited about 20 minutes to order our food and catching the eye of any of the servers was almost impossible; there were moments that some of them (not all) were stood in the corner chatting or on their mobile and (who I presume was) the duty manager appeared to do nothing about this. About an hour in, we heard a clattering of crockery down the stairs and it transpired that this was our food. While accidents happen, we only discovered this by asking our server whether it had been ours (two other tables that arrived after us had now received their meals) and there was no effort in the immediate instance to be proactive and a) tell us what had happened (as I say, we had to ask ourselves!) and b) offer any sort of apology or compensation (complimentary bottle of wine, for example) for the fact that we were now having to wait for our meals to be made from scratch again. As I say, once the food arrived, it was clear why there are so many great reviews for this place because it was delicious and plentiful (the table next to us (three people) had to request more veg. as they had been given very little to share so there was some concern given that there were six of us!). However, as I say, the food was lovely and a real credit to the pub! In total we were there for two-and-a-half hours but despite what had happened to our food there was also no goodwill attempt for the fact we'd had to wait so long for our food; as I say, while it wasn't intentional, it had happened and anywhere else would have likely offered some discount. Overall it wasn't a horrible experience but it was just very disappointing that some small tweaks to the customer service and attentiveness of the staff would have made our visit so much better.

We were given some bread with our meal but we don't eat carbs so this was taken away but replaced with their seed crackers which were amazing and very moreish! Cocktails & wine were very good. We didn't have desert but they looked lush! My only criticism was that one of the servers was not as attentive as we would have liked which meant we had to keep calling the staff over for more drinks etc but that is the only thing I can criticise. My partner and I had a wonderful meal at The Princess of Shoreditch this evening. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. For starters, I had the Dorset crab crumpet, which was perfectly cooked crab on a light and fluffy crumpet. The pickled peaches and lime added a nice touch of acidity and sweetness. My partner had the beef tartare, which was incredibly tender and flavorful. The truffle custard and watercress were the perfect accompaniments. For our main course, we both had the Yorkshire lamb rump, which was cooked to perfection. The lamb was so tender that it melted in our mouths. The crushed green herbs, cauliflower, and lamb sauce were all delicious. We also shared the new potatoes with seaweed beurre blanc and the hispi cabbage with bacon, crispy shallots, and black garlic. Both sides were very well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. For dessert, I had the lemon, blueberry, and bay tart, which was tart and refreshing. The lemon sorbet was the perfect way to cleanse the palate. My partner had the 70% dark chocolate cremeux, which was rich and decadent. The hazelnut and raspberry added a nice touch of sweetness. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at The Princess of Shoreditch. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal near Old Street.

Service was friendly but food was pretty disappointing. Sadly not quite the same standard as it’s sister pub, Pig& Butcher. Starters were standard. Nothing to write home about. The Dorset crab crumpet did stand out - the quality of the crab was very good but the crumpet tasted a tad stale. I ordered the pollock (which was pretty good). My partner ordered the sirloin, which was somewhat tasteless despite looking like it had been cooked perfectly medium rare. Probably needed a better sear and a touch more salt to bring out the flavour of the meat. For dessert, we both ordered the strawberry soufflé - definitely too sweet. The whole top layer tasted purely of sugar and the rest of the soufflé tasted like cheap strawberry jam. Like the sirloin, it was aesthetically pleasing but failed the taste test. Would ditch the strawberry jam and serve with more of the crème fraiche ice cream (or just crème fraiche). Overall, a mid experience, especially considering the price point.

The toilet is a bit smelly, there are people smoking outside by the window so you get that pub-smell while you eat. There was us plus another couple in the whole restaurant, so it was really quiet. Nevertheless, the waiter forgot my wine and the thread arrived to our table a long time after it came out of the toaster… so it is all a bit weird. Nevertheless the dishes were truly inspired. The jalapeño-avocado-strawberry dressing on the seabass crudo was really good. The cauliflower tempura probably my favourite thing, so perfect! And the pollock dish was rich and full of flavour. The food is quite salty, which I don’t mind at all but might be a bit too salty for some. Portions are quite small so you’ll need to order a few things and when you pay full price it will all add up. I am curious to see where they take this… will the chef find a new home or will they re-decorate the place?

Everything was great apart from the roast potatoes that tasted dry and old. Really let an otherwise great roast down. Souffle was excellent.

Beautifully cooked food in a charming pub, (herb-crusted lamb and sauce). We had a discount code, otherwise it would have been very expensive, but the standards are high. Very lovely waiter. We never saw the chef but when I said to the waiter that I wanted to take a dessert away for the cinema but had nothing to eat it with, the chef gave me a fork. It was utterly delicious (chocolate cremeux with raspberry). Cannot comment on the atmosphere as we were there at opening, 6pm due to having to get to a film, so we were the only people eating. A nice treat for a special occasion.

Best restaurant roast ever! Three courses, each a taste sensation, thank you. Not the cheapest but worth it.

Loved this place. Cosy, smallish pub serving really good food. One of the best meals I had during a three week holiday in the UK.

Delicious roast dinner, generous portion size, incredible gravy and amazing cauliflower cheese. I'd rate this very highly for a London Sunday roast. The service was very friendly just a little slow and the tables were a bit close together but overall a lovely ambience and I'd recommend.

Been here a few times for a Sunday Roast and it’s been my favourite in the past. But it seems there’s been a drastic drop in portion sizes with only a few potatoes and a small amount of veg between two people. Which comparing to previous photos is half the amount. Luckily we weren’t too hungry!

This place has changed. Before Covid I visited a few times and the food was amazing! They’ve taken off the sticky toffee pudding dessert and now have this set menu style option. Food weren’t great, burnt potatoes and for 33 each we had to share veg! A 4 out of 10 service…

Fabulous meal. Yes, the food is great. But the staff are what makes this place extra special. Our server (from the Adelaide Hills, name gone with that last glass of wine..) was amazing as was the lady on the bar. Brilliant wine list and the red wine was decanted and brought to a nice temperature on a very warm evening. Highly recommended.

On Sunday they have a prix fixe menu with 2 or three courses. Starters were a delicious selection of cold seafood. We all opted for the traditional roast beef dinner which came with so many sides and gravy and yorkshire puddings we could barely finish it all. Deserts were unbelievable. It’s a little off the beaten path and we only went based on a recommendation. It’s Michelin rated but I don’t believe it has a star but definitely deserves a few! Go here, you won’t regret it!

A little more expensive than the average chippy but worth it, also because there’s a nice seating area and not just a takeaway place. Big portions, fresh fish and yummy chips. And if you somehow have
