So good. Authentic. Bit pricey but worth it.

Despite the impressive menu, fish was soggy and tasteless. Chips were also poor and curry sauce/gravy/mushy peas were cheap tasting and very watery. Awful.

Ordered takeout. The rock tasted off, like ammonia, so didn't eat it. Chips were meh. Skate was alright but bland. Don't wanna knock their service and atmosphere but you guys gotta be serving fresher fish...

EDIT: I am NEVER eating here again. How on earth can they justify £18.65 for a few over-cooked breaded prawns (worse than Iceland standard), a basket of under-cooked chips, and a small saucer of mushy peas? They've even removed the tartare sauce from the tables! That's it - they've had their chips!!! Hasta la vista Sutton & Sons! ORIGINAL POST: Grilled salmon delicious. Pleasant staff. Chips portion size MUCH too big & not cooked enough. VERY disappointing that, having paid £16:55 per portion for fish'n'chips, they couldn't throw in just one sachet of tartare sauce/ketchup. 40p for a one teaspoonful portion! Come on, guys!! Just offer one sachet of choice to each customer - much better for customer relations. Compensate by halving the ridiculously large portion size of your chips! Good choice of vegan options btw, if you're that way inclined.

good/mediocre, but not the fish and chips you know and love. Batter on the fish is a bit soggy and bland and the chips are good enough. If fish and chips are the taste of home for you or many memories, this ain’t the place for you but if you’re not fussed and just want fish and chips then go for it. A little overpriced for the simplicity of fish and chips at the given quality point.

I found the batter of the cod fish and chips is slightly thicker comparing to the Stoke Newington branch. However this location is easier to access. Friendly staff.

A little more expensive than the average chippy but worth it, also because there’s a nice seating area and not just a takeaway place. Big portions, fresh fish and yummy chips. And if you somehow have room for more… a fried mars bar to top it all off. I’ve never eaten off their vegan menu but am also very impressed with their offerings!

We visited mid-November 2023, after 2pm. The vegan menu is what drew us here and for plant-based peeps it's a great place to eat. I'm not vegan so had a dine-in Cod and chips, with a fishcake to start and big cup of coffee. The service was perfect, the food excellent and we spent a happy hour peering out of the window watching the world go by. The prices were no worse than anywhere else, but as I don't live in the UK it's difficult to make a judgement. Suttons & Sons at Hackney Central is highly recommended if you like your fish chips traditional, or plant-based.

recently got sutton & sons on deliveroo where there's a promotion for £7 off selected restaurants! i got large chips & two battered sausages (made my own gravy at home). the chip portion was huge and the battered sausages were perfection, ultra thin layer of batter.

I have been using Sutton's in Stoke Newington and their Hackney branch I have been happy with the food that I've had from them Except ... I wholeheartedly Dislike their Chips and the choice of potatoes they've chosen for them Apparently the chips are meant to be "fluffy" in texture but they're a disappointment every time. Fish n Chips, without decent chips just doesn't quite cut it Edit: I did not mention that I will recommend the Fish. On the occasions that I have been there the fish has always been cooked right, the Batter is thin and crispy, the fish is succulent, moist, flavoursome and is nice enough to eat without using a knife and fork. You gotta give credit when it's due

My fries were ALL soggy and limp. I’d hoped they might be the crispier option as opposed to chip, but these were pretty inedible. Batter on cod also soggy. The fish was well cooked. Ok …it was a later eve takeaway order - but the last order should be as good as the first at £12. Can I have my fries money back plz.?

Omg. Just sat in suttons in hackney for a large haddock n chips. Omg - probably the best chippy meal ive ever had. Chip’s sublime n fish soft n flaky. Don’t hesitate u won’t be disappointed!!

An amazing chip shop. This place exceeded my expectations. The chips were perfect. I was only meant to be having a few but ended up scoffing the lot. The price is great too. Keep up the good work .

Ordered a skate wing and chips and a rock and chips, also a Wally. Instead received a middle piece of skate with probably no more than 150gs of meat and the rock tasted like a gone off fish cake, not nice… chips were fairly decent but fancied fish and chips not just chips. Much like getting a gone off tuna sandwich with nice bread… pointless…the Wally was hollow in the middle so was probably as fresh as the fish. I did message them directly before writing this review but they viewed it and didn’t respond. It’s also notable to point out their very extensive vegan menu which looks AMAZING on paper (which I appreciated at first as a chef myself) has a designated fryer that’s marked vegan in capitals is where my awful fish came out of. So, nothing vegan here as cross contamination is, evidently, quite an international practice! My friend was also sick the next day, he had the rock! Go figure… So to sum up, Bad communication Bad customer service Gone off food Cross contamination When it said renowned fish and chips I didn't have that in mind. Not what I expect from anywhere with such competition in the local area. Waste of money. Avoid.

Riesige Portionen!! Veganes Fish & Chips, vegane Calamari und normales Haddock & Chips war alles super! Die Chips könnten ein bisschen knuspriger sein, aber sonst hat alles gepasst 👍

For the 4th year we visited this fabulous restaurant in preparation for the 112 mile ‘Dunwich Dynamo’ through the night bike ride. Omed, William and Bo again looked after us all brilliantly and let us all bring the valuable bikes inside while we ate. The food is without doubt the best Fish and Chips I’ve had (as it has been every time the Leicestershire boys visit). Thanks to you all. We can’t make the 2024 ride but hope to be back in 2025 x.

I came here to try the banana blossom fish and chips. It was very underwhelming and just tasted like fried artichoke. I hoped they would know how to properly prepare it since it’s one of their signature dishes. It was quite disappointing and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The chips and sauce were ok but nothing special. This is nothing against the staff. The service was very good.

Me and my family have just finished eating a delivery order from Sutton and Sons Hackney. I had mac and cheese, which I can only describe as tasteless mush. The chips were overcooked, dry, and covered in black bits from the poor quality potatoes that were used. There weren't many that were edible. My wife said the batter on the fish she had was tasteless, and again was only able to pick out a handful of chips that she could eat. I'm honestly puzzled by all the positive reviews I've read. This is one of the worst fish and chip shops I've ordered from and we certainly won't be eating from here again.

It's weirdly hit and miss. The whitebait was over cooked and there was curry in the prawn tempura (!) but the chips and haddock were pretty decent. The time before last, everything was top notch.

Best ending for our London Trip! We ate the Kids menu and it was still nearly to big for us. Service was super friendly! Thanks for the nice evening!

Sehr sehr schönes kleines Lokal mit vielen Optionen für Veganer und andere. Das Personal ist super freundlich,das Essen war köstlich! Wir hatten die klassische Fush and Chips Gerichte,einmal mit echtem Fisch und einmal die Vegane Alternative. Dazu noch eine Ginger Beer und einen schwarzen Tee . Bestellung kam sehr schnell, das Essen super Lecker! Preise sind sehr gut,die Größe der Portionen ebenso (grose Teller und Portionen, man wird sehr gut satt),gezahlt hatten wir 36 £. Der Fisch wird laut Angaben jeden Tag frisch geliefert und das schmeckt man auch!! Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit der hohen Qualität des Essens. Ambiente was auch sehr schön eingerichtet und es liegt sehr gut erreichbar (in der Nähe ist eine Subway Station und auch Bus Stations) . Kann dieses Lokal sehr weiter empfehlen ❤️

Went here for a quick bite before going out to meet friends for a drink. Tried the vegan battered sausage with chips and a soft drink, which came in at a not inexpensive £12.95. Staff were lovely and friendly, but sausage over cooked until almost solid. Chips okay, but oddly taste-free, as was the onion vinegar on the tables. Everything felt like it just needed more oomph and more care. Maybe the chain is just resting on its laurels as it is well thought of. Hope to try again in near future, and hope for more flavour!

Seriously upset and angry and disappointed that I have just found out that Sutton and sons on Graham road, (which have a separate section on Deliveroo which names itself as a “Vegan Chip Shop”) fry their chips in the same oil as dead animals and other animal products!!! This is false advertising and being vegan is a protected right by law and this has totally breached my rights as a vegan not to consume animal products or foods that have been contaminated by dead animals! I am disgusted! Your staff on the phone told me that the chips are fried in the same oil as dead animals. Your response to my review says that this is not true and that you’d be happy to discuss it, but I am unable to reply to your response. Please tell me how to contact you to discuss it, as right now I’m more inclined to believe the people working in the shop as they are the ones who know what they’re cooking in the oil. I hope it was a big mistake though, because my family have eaten there so many times, and something told me to ask the question and that was not the answer I was hoping to get!

Traditional fish and chips chain with an extensive vegan menu. I got the cod and chips and mushy peas, i wished there was tartar sauce, not sure if they missed out or i was supposed to purchase separately. More my fault than theirs.

The food was great (loved having so many vegan options, can recommend the "calamari") and just generally a very solid fish and chip shop, was pretty quiet when we went and the only very minor thing was that I didnt like the layout much

It's my last day in London and I wanted a very special meal, so I was excited to try this place! An extensive commitment to vegetarian and vegan options was the my reason for visiting, and everything I got was amazing. The small restaurant was very busy, and everyone looked extremely happy. I got the veg prawns and banana blossom fish and chips and LOVED it! You can see that this is a true family business, and the young fellows were so helpful and kind. I can't wait to tell everyone in America about my very favorite meal of my whole trip.

Tried the classic cheeseburger when I was in a hurry. Simple, delicious, no fuss. Would absolutely have again. Give it a shot.

It was man versus fish and I nearly lost! They source their own sustainable seafood and this "Plaice" was the largest portion of fish I've ever seen. ...my wife had the vegan banana flower which was also great.

Great Cod & Chips, Tea and Stick Toffee Pudding with ice cream, pricey but excellent service and excellent quality of food so didn't mind paying. Also very upbeat atmosphere so all in all a great find. Will certainly be my go to for fish & chips in Stokey.

Banana Blossom and chips. Exquisite. My favourite go to for Vegan fish n chips. And was also my first place I'd tasted this delicious alternative. Since then nothing has exceeded this place. Great service and generous portions. The menu has a good varied choice too, including Vegan deserts! Highly recommend this little gem.

A really delicious eat in meal 🍴 of vegan banana 🍌 blossom fish and chips, vegan jumbo sausage and vegan mushy peas. Lovely and crispy chips, and the vegan banana blossom fish was very yummy with an incredible taste, texture and batter. Well worth the visit for any vegans if you are in London. Update: another visit with photos added, super delicious, generous portions, crunchy and amazing service and flavours. Highly recommended for all vegans in London and visiting London for delicious vegan fish and chips, mushy peas sausage and tartare sauce.

Nice little shop. Price is probably about par for fish and chips these days. Food is good quality and good size portions. Option to eat in which is great. Extensive range of fish and plenty of vegan options too.

Stopped at the Hackney Central shop on Friday night. Best fish and chips I think I’ve ever had. The fish was beautiful with a perfect light batter and not greasy at all. Will definitely stop again when passing 👌👌

This is a review for the vegan fish and chips from optional vegan menu. Good value for money. The fish is made from banana blossom, the flower of the banana plant. It’s a more healthy option than processed fake meat which you may find elsewhere. Banana blossom has a natural flaky texture. It’s just like an artichoke heart in its flavour and texture. Any seafood flavour is added through marinating. I personally think they could have added more of a seafood flavour as it was quite subtle. The chunky chips were good. Decor is like a retro fish and chip shop. A rare bread these days.
