What can I say...these guys are fantastic. We were there on a work trip and there was a big group of us. Although they weren't serving food officially, they still went all out and sorted a hot/cold selection for us. When went back a couple of weeks later and had food from the menu and it was amazing... The beer selection is great and the staff are brilliant!

After is lovely (and much needed) refurb we have eaten at the POW twice in recent weeks - once at the weekend and once mid week. Both times were superb. Mid week I had the ox cheek which, as many say, was fab. My husband had the pie which is Matts speciality dish I believe and understandably so as it was great too. The Sunday roast (beef and pork) was delicious too and everything was perfectly cooked (rare beef - yum). A small observation - if you would prefer not to have the gravy pre poured on your beef as I would have, stipulate that. They did provide extra in a little jug but I would have preferred to make the choice myself. The staff are lovely - efficient and smiley. Very good value too. Thoroughly recommend a visit!

This pub was a short walk from our hotel so was the perfect location. A great selection of well kept beers and wonderful food made it the perfect evening experience. My wife had the Ox cheek which was beautifully cooked and I had the fish and chips which was fantastic, but be warned also very hot and massive. Very friendly staff. The only thing I would say was it had a very slightly local ( your not from a round here) feel to start with.

When I realised the PoW had new tenants I was keen to return and I’m glad I did. There was a friendly welcome and the new decor is all lovely. It all feels very new so there are probably little things that still need sorting (like giving a jug of water for the table rather than individual glasses) or a little bit of table decoration like candles etc but the important things are all in place - good, friendly service and great food. The menu is excellent with a good range of meat, fish and plant - based options that are delicious enough to tempt meat eaters away. I had an arancini/parsnip purée starter and it was so delicious I could have had it again for a main course - but instead I had charred cauliflower with curried lentils - fab! I don’t remember what the wine selection was like because basically I had what my friend did but it was very nice! The bill was very reasonable. I’ve already booked to go back.

The strongest recommendation that I could ever offer! I booked two weeks ago to reserve a table for six, unfortunately one of us couldn't make the reservation and I can tell you that they definitely missed out on the best Sunday lunch going! I've spent more on Sunday lunch in the past but this is hands down the best Sunday roast I've had in recent memory! Brilliant value! Roast potatoes are often either crispy and bland or they're soggy and over-seasonsed, the potatoes on my plate tonight were a perfect level of crisp and the caliber of seasoning was second to none! I ordered the chicken which came with a brilliant array of vegetables and cauliflower cheese which was to die for! You can tell that their chef gives a lot of thought and care into their food. Even though I'm not a fan of gravy, the flavours complemented the dish meaning that I could forget I was consuming something I wouldn't normally eat! The front of house staff and their service was impeccable. They made us feel welcome and their attention to detail certainly didn't go unnoticed! I hope I can visit this pub again soon and try their standard menu in the middle of the week! A local gem I would highly recommend if you ever have the privilege of eating there!

Arriving at the pub, I was really hungry. Leaving I was not. A huge serving of fish&chips (I did order extra chips) made a difference. The chips were really good. The fish was fresh and a very rich serving. But partly because of a very generous battering, which was slightly overcooked to my taste. All in all a nice dinner at a reasonable price level.

Visited this new place (7pm Friday evening) under new management as they'd advertised the kitchen opening yesterday. We arrived and sat down in a half empty pub with some but not all tables reserved but lots available to be told we couldn't eat if we hadn't booked. Why would we? No menus on the website and no indication of requirement to book. I wish the new owners well but they need to do much better than this on customer service and communication.

Entered the pub quiz, thought it would be a lovely experience for my retired elderly father who was over joyed with the prospect of having an outing. Unfortunately this seems like a local pub for local people. We were not only shouted at by the locals in there for not swapping the quiz papers on time, baring in mind this was our first time playing. It was a hostile environment to say the least. We were over the moon to see we had won with a score of 45 but then we were told we had not won and the players who scored lower than us (the locals) had won. When asked why, we were told the manager chooses who wins. It's a real shame to be treated with such disregard and injustice. This is definitely a local pub for local people with a nasty vibe, men that shout at young women and total disregard for the safety of loan women. You will never win the quiz it seems it's all planned and a sham from the begining. A shame as the pub much potential. Do not go it's unsafe, injust and unfriendly. Stick with the delights of the more welcoming atmosphere of the Isis or Rusty Bicycle where quizzes are played fairly and old men do not abuse new comers.

Just had a very disappointing lunch. No draught bitter. Asked for a cheese ploughman’s lunch. Told “sorry, I dropped the jar of pickle”. So I opted for a cheese and ham sandwich. Then out came the food, no knife and fork. No butter in the sandwich, it was bone dry. Grated cheese, I had hoped for a decent cheddar, package sliced ham. It was so dry that I asked for mayonnaise. Told “I’ll bring it in a minute”. Waited a fair while and nothing. Went inside to get my own mayonnaise, there wasn’t any. The food was so bland and dry that it stuck to the roof of my mouth. My mate said it was like eating one of Ghandi’s flip flops.
